Steve Gilliard, 1966-2007

As you’ve probably heard, Steve Gilliard died yesterday at the age of 41. His strong, passionate voice will be sorely missed.

My condolences to his family and friends. I didn’t know Steve well, and never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I enjoyed his hard-hitting, unapologetic posts, and was always impressed with his consistently-amazing work. Steve’s very first solo post on his blog told readers, “If you’ve read me at Daily Kos and NetSlaves, then you know what to expect. If not, it’s really simple: I say what I mean and mean what I say.” Truer words were never spoken.

For more on Steve from those who knew him well, I’d encourage readers to check these pieces from Kos, FDL, and Meteor Blades.

Yes. An awful loss. He wrote so well, with great impact and — at a time when we’re all floundering most of the time — he made sense.
