Fractured Mandibles and such - Part 2

So yea, if you've the post before this.. after having my jaw wired shut, I was on an all liquid diet for about a month and a half. My "liquid diet" consisted of..
..chocolate milk, half boiled eggs, soup, blended porridge (yes, even my porridge had to be blended to a complete pulp, much like baby food), fruit juice, you get the idea.

Everything liquid la basically.

I was given 8-weeks worth of MC by the doctor. This 8-weeks was filled with weekly visits to the doctor for check-ups, and also to check on how my recovery was coming along.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I lost helluva weight, but I was not sure how much weight I've lost until TODAY! I've lost a grand total of 6-kilograms in the span of just 2-months. Not something to be proud of, it's very hard for me to gain weight but very easy to lose it. I've no idea how the hell I'm going to regain the weight I've lost.

Will probably take ALOT of time to do so.

The office is having a medical check-up thingy for all employees. The machine even had trouble calculating my total body fat! Error Error Error all the way.

Anyway, back to my recovery. At around Week 5 or so, the metal braces were finally ready to come off! Boy was I excited. The thought of being able to eat solids again was too much to handle. (I was CRAVING for SOOOOOOO MANY types of food, I was almost going insane)

But, to my dismay.. IT HURT LIKE HELL whenever I tried to chew something. Even something as soft as a PLUM, made me feel like my jaw was about to crack wide open again.

So yeah..went back to porridge, albeit non-blended this time. And more juice and milk and soups.

Then I worked my way to chewing on noodles, fish, certain vegetables, minced chicken, burger, etc.

Going up what I call the "solid scale".

Seems like I can pretty much chew anything (or most of my favorite foods) by now.

Biggest accomplishment? I would have to say grilled crabs.

The braces once they were taken off.

So yeah, life was pretty much shit for that 2-month period. But I'm back on my feet now, recovering slowly but surely. The next step from here on would be to get cosmetic dental work done.

I broke/chipped a total of 7 tooth (from the impact of the fall). Yes..SEVEN. 6 of which needs to be crowned and 1 has to be extracted. After that, I'm going to have to wear braces. But NOT the ones above...the normal "make my teeth all nice & straight" type of braces.

All this is going to cost a pretty penny, but we'll see how it goes.

Fractured mandibles and such - Part 1

So, about 2-months ago, I was out on a weekend having some late night "lok lok" with a couple of friends. Everything was fine until I suddenly felt dizzy. After paying up, I felt dizzy, the type of dizziness commonly associated with a head rush. You know, you see "stars" and your vision begins to blur.

Thinking it was just a head rush, I decided to ignore it and let it pass. Boy was I wrong.

OH SO WRONG. The next thing I knew, I was lying in the middle of the street surrounded by some friends and strangers, urging me to wake up. I finally managed to stand up, then I felt some liquid and what seemed like "rocks" in my mouth. I spat them out and there they were, some parts of my teeth and a whole lot of blood.

Also, my chin was cut wide open. And I had trouble closing my jaw. At that point I thought it was all a dream, a nightmare even. But nope. It was very real. I was fucked.

A couple of friends then immediately rushed me to a nearby clinic, where I had my chin treated. The doctor injected some local anesthesia around my chin, cleaned it up and immediately began sewing it up. I had a total of 9 stitches. FML.

It was already 4am by now, without wasting any time, a friend drove me to a nearby hospital (Damansara Specialist) for further treatment. This was where I had my jaw and skull X-ray-ed. After what seemed like an eternity, the doctor came out with my x-ray and briefly explained what was wrong. I must admit, I didn't really understand a word he was saying at that time. I was tired, I was in pain, and my mind was racing.

Collected my X-ray, and left. Throughout this entire ordeal, I was constantly spitting out blood mixed with my saliva, it just wouldn't stop. My friend then drove me back to the place of incident, I then drove home.

Not my actual X-ray, but it looks something like this...

Tried to sleep, which was hard as I was constantly salivating and had to wake up every 20-minutes or so to clear my mouth.
8:30AM the next morning, my gf drove me to another hospital (Tawakal). We didn't go back to Damansara Specialist as the specialist was on leave (srsly, WTF moment).

Got to the hospital, waited and waited and waited, then I was finally attended to. Oh, before that, I had to sort out of insurance paperwork as well. After all that, I was checked-in to my ward and cleaned up by the nurses.

A doctor came to see me shortly, he said that another X-ray session was necessary because the X-ray done in Damansara Specialist was pretty much shit. BUT, the "special" X-ray machine is only available in a hospital in Ampang.

This was when I had my first ambulance ride (not a thing to be proud of BTW), but yeah..got to see what is inside an ambulance and all.
Anyway, got the X-ray done, went back to Tawakal and passed the X-rays to the doctor.

Not long after that, the doctor came in, and began to explain what has happened and what needs to be done.

I basically fractured my jaw in 3 areas.

This is known as a "condylar fracture of the mandible".
How do we fix this? Surgery, physio and lots and lots of time.

I went into a surgery where I had a Titanium plate permanently implanted around my chin area. Then, the doctor "installed" what's known as a maxillomandibular fixation (MMF)or commonly known as "wiring the jaw shut".

Next step consists of a strict all liquid diet, frequent check-ups, 8 weeks off work, and losing helluva lot of weight.

So, a couple of my friends recently went on holiday to destinations which I would really love to go one day. Not being able to do so at the moment, I started thinking of ways to "get something back" without actually going there.

What I did was, I sent them 2 visuals with a random "travel quote", 1 smiley face and of course my blog address in it. Had them print the visuals out for them to bring along on their trip. Not a new idea, I know... but what the heck la kan?

Now..apaprently, Apple's Face Time will only work over a WiFi connection and will only allow iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 video calls.

This is a big set-back from the normal conventional 3G Video Call in which you are able to video call ANYONE ANYWHERE regardless of what phone they are using or what network they are on, as long as the phone is one with video call feature and they are in a 3G coverage area.

Of course, there would probably be apps available which will allow for video call over a cellular data network. One that I can think of right now is Skype, but still..Skype will only allow us to video call another person using Skype.

So, how do we get around this?

Slipknot's Paul Gray has died at the age of 38.

The bassist was found dead in his hotel room in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier today (May 24).

According to Tmz.com, police have found no evidence of foul play at the scene, but there will be an investigation into his death.

Gray, who was one of the original members of Slipknot when they formed in 1995, was expecting his first child with his wife Brenna.

The band paid tribute to their bassist, changing the front page of Slipknot1.com to a picture of Gray, though they have yet to comment.

An autopsy is reported to be scheduled for tomorrow (May 25).

A couple of weeks back, I blogged about a Time Attack event which was organized by Zerotohundred in conjunction with their 10th anniversary.

Here is a brief summary of what happened that day. (Videos and pictures after the jump)

So, I left the house at around 10am as Bryan of Autojunctions.com had arranged for a couple of members and enthusiasts to convoy all the way to Sepang. The meeting place was a petrol station located at the infamous "Jalan Horsepower" or Hosepower Road in Sunway.

Met up with Alvin and FugZ there for some breakfast as we were slightly early and had some time to kill.

Fast-forward 45-minutes, and we were on our way. I was rather excited as this was the first time in a very very long time since I've last been to Sepang for a "track day". What more a track day of this scale.

The heavens opened up en route to Sepang and I was thinking to myself, "pls let it be sunny & dry at the track". But alas, the weather wasn't in our favor and it poured at Sepang.

Nevertheless, the event had to go on, and boy did it go on. Never have I seen so many petrolheads gathered in one area and in such bad weather with their precious rides before. All of which had only one thing on their mind that day. No, it wasn't the fact that their precious "just washed" rides are now soaking in the heavy rain, it wasn't the "oh shit I brought Semi slick/slick tires today", it was to be the fastest to go around Sepang International Circuit.

I must say, every driver that day, really put in everything they've got to come up with the best time despite the very very wet conditions. Needless to say, there were a couple of spins here and there, but no big incidents fortunately.

Here are a couple of pictures from that day.

All in all, I would say that the event was a highly successful one. Nevermind the rain, nevermind the confusing and sometimes rather disorganized queue at the pitlane, nevermind the lack of the female species or the lack of food & beverages. It was the passion for motorsports that counts. Just come out and give it all you've got.

Now, if you're still in the dark about this, recently there was a big hoo-haa on the internet about a supposedly lost iPhone 4 in a bar. Apple has done it again. This time in Vietnam.

And just TODAY, it seems that there is ANOTHER lost iPhone 4. What is going on here? Apple misplacing their brand new unreleased/prototypes so easily? This time, the supposed lost iPhone is located in Vietnam.

== Street Fighter: Legacy ==

"Street Fighter: Legacy" is a 3-minute fan made short film based on the Capcom game.

I must say that this 3-minute short film is way way waaaayy better than the first Street Fighter movie (Van Damme) and The Legend of Chun-Li.

Some very interesting and key details from the short film;
- Akuma unleashed his "Die A Thousand Deaths" Ultra Combo at the start of the film
- Ken is wearing a Shadaloo belt? (pause at 0:48)
- Ryu does a Focus Attack on Ken, followed by a Metsu Hadoken. (Street Fighter IV)
- Ken's flaming Shoryuken burnt the leaves around him. You can see the burning leaves as they fall after Ken lands.

I accidentally paused the video at the beginning and noticed this frame featuring Akuma.
Looks abit odd doesn't it? I think it's the wig.

And also this frame of Ryu throwing his Metsu Hadoken fireball. Look at what the ripples did to his mouth. LOL?

Still a very good short film nonetheless.
Now, if only they'd work on a full feature length film.

== Jay Chou's Batmobile ==

I have a mad obsession for the original 1989 Batmobile. I really do. You can read more from HERE and HERE.

So you can imagine the excitement when I found out that Taiwanese superstar, Jay Chou had recently acquired an actual Batmobile.

The car was handmade and sent to Jay all the way from the US, the cost? A whopping 14.7million NTD (Taiwanese Dollars) or roughly RM1.5million. That's 4.7million NTD for the Batmobile, and 10million NTD for shipping.

The car is powered by a 6300cc V8 engine, and measures 5.5meters in length. That's 18ft in length! Parking this piece "car" requires 3 standard sized parking lots.

Apparently, Jay's Batmobile is not street legal and as such, he doesn't really drive it out. Such a pity.

In conjunction with ZeroToHundred's(ZTH) 10th Anniversary, there will be a Time Attack track event in Sepang this Sunday, 9th May 2010. Which is also Mother's Day btw.

Promptly named "Time To Attack", this event looks like it's going to be a big one.
100 cars will take to the track, battling it out for the fastest time around Sepang International Circuit.

Pretty cool costumes I must say. With actual lights in the proper places and sound too! Only thing I didn't like was the plastic-ish sounds when they walk.
