Window cleaning done right is physically demanding and very detail oriented. Both of which can take it out of you by the end of the week. This type of work requires concentration plus physical stamina, and you gotta like people.

You have to stay focused to catch the little things that really do make the difference between a job being done and a job being well done. It’s not about getting the job finished. It’s about finishing the job only after everything has been buttoned-up, cleaned-up and left as if nobody had even been there. Except of course, the windows are now clean like nobody’s business. The sills are wiped down, frames are dusted, sliding door tracks are vacuumed and scrubbed, plus the screens are dust and dirt free.

Have you ever noticed how your home just looks better when the windows are clean? How you now catch yourself standing and looking out at the view instead of glancing out and kind of looking away? Believe me, clean windows do make a difference. I hear it from people everyday. It’s fun to catch people out of the corner of my eye standing and just looking out one of their windows after they have been cleaned. I can’t help wondering just how long it’s been since they’ve enjoyed their view.

A side benefit of window cleaning work is that you get a full-body workout. No gym membership required here. We all know that the older we get the more important activity is for our minds and bodies. Believe me when I tell you that window cleaning gives you a strong dose of both. It’s amazing the amount of bending, stretching, and lifting I do in a day. Activity is longevity! Plus you are concentrating on all the details so you are using your mind as well.

I have to admit that the people I meet are, without a doubt, the best part of window cleaning. I have met so many wonderful folks that are so appreciative of the work I do. They are genuinely happy when I leave and are glad to have had their windows cleaned. You can tell that they just feel better.

It’s interesting and enjoyable for me to get to know each person. Its’ pretty cool that I’m able to get somewhat of an understanding of who they are and where they’ve come from. I’ve always liked people and I cherish the short time I spend in their homes while I’m cleaning windows.

To everyone I’ve done work for, thank you for inviting me into your world. I’ve enjoyed our time together and it has been my pleasure to serve you and get to know you.

The Siesta Key Window Cleaning Company in Sarasota has contracted for 1 year to be a sponsor and supporter of a website that creates content for our local beach community. The site is called See My Beach.

If you are a business supported by the Siesta Key Community, this is your opportunity to give back.

SeeMyBeach.com is a hybrid website that is funded by a combination of ‘Advertisers’ and ‘Sponsors’. Advertisers are national companies that support our mission buying advertising space on our main pages like ‘Home’, ‘Beach Videos’, Beach Photos’, ’Blog’, etc. This allows us to dedicate the majority of money paid into our ‘Beach Communities’ like ‘Venice, ‘Siesta Key’ and others to creating content to present the community to the world as well as providing free coverage and promotion to community interest organizations and non-profits. ‘Sponsors’ have the unique opportunity to basically ‘Buy’ and ad on SeeMyBeach.com and enjoy the added benefit of having most of the money support their community. These sponsors support our mission through ‘Heart and Vision’ and not ‘numbers’. If you like what we do and want to see our company do more to support each beach community, it is important that you seek out and use our sponsors…even if it means changing who you do business with. You may suggest a sponsor by calling 850-345-4566 or you may email jacqui@seemybeach.com and let her know who you would like to see represented on this site.

One method is simply to wipe each crystal with a damp chamois. Or try our two-glove method. Wear white cotton gloves, one dampened with Windex® and one dry. Caress the crystal with the damp glove and wipe it dry immediately with the dry glove. !

We never use spray cleaners because sooner or later they’ll work their way into any microscopic nicks or scratches in the frame finish and cause corrosion, even with 24-karat gold or brass frames. Frames should only be wiped with a dry cloth. Moisture is a no-no.

Some people remove all the crystal to clean chandelier . Others like to clean a chandelier as it hangs, fully trimmed. Let the design of your chandelier and your personal preference be your guide.

Locate your trim diagram before removing any crystal, so you’ll know how to reassemble the chandelier. If you’ve lost your trim diagram, the nearest showroom that carries Schonbek chandeliers can probably give you a replacement on the spot.
Before cleaning, put a towel or blanket under the chandelier so that, if you dislodge a piece of crystal, your table or floor won’t suffer a nick (and the crystal is more likely to survive).

Never twirl or rotate your chandelier. When cleaning, walk or move your ladder around the chandelier and clean in sections. By rotating a chandelier you risk loosening its support, which could cause the chandelier or its crystals to fall. The electrical wiring of the chandelier could also be damaged, risking fire or electrical shock.

To brighten the whole chandelier, be sure and wipe the light bulbs. But wait till they’re completely cool. And don’t touch the bulbs with anything wet; it can cause them to shatter.

Never put crystal in the dishwasher!

Fine crystal picks up fingerprints very easily. In the Schonbek factory, we never handle crystal with our bare hands. When dressing or cleaning your chandeliers, either wear white gloves or use the finger cots.

We know people who clean their chandeliers every few months, because they love handling the crystal and admiring it close up. Others do a cleaning every six or nine months.

Frequency of cleaning depends on chandelier location, type of crystal and shape of the crystal jewels. For example, Strass® crystal manufactured in the last decade has a surface that repels dust and needs cleaning only very occasionally. Handcut crystal pendeloques tend to show dust, but they are easy to clean because of their size and flatness.

Crystal needs cleaning when it appears dusty or dull. Just look at your chandelier frequently (always enjoyable), and you’ll know when to reach for the white gloves.

If you have a chandelier with the grime of centuries on it, you can try a solution of warm water and a small amount of white vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Just remember to remove the crystal for this operation to avoid corrosion of the frame.

Short of hiring a professional blind cleaner, there’s really no way to avoid getting down and dirty when it comes to the ugly task of window blind cleaning.

There are, however, a few tricks to make the job a little easier. If your blinds merely need a dusting, use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to suck away dirt. If you don’t have a brush attachment, try wearing a pair of cotton gloves or an old pair of socks on your hands and wiping the slats between your fingers. A small paintbrush can also be used to dust slats.

If the blinds are pretty dirty, try wiping them down with a damp sponge or cloth while they are hanging. Some people recommend taking them down and spraying them in the shower or with a hose, but to really remove dirt, your best bet may be to soak them in a bathtub full of mild soapy water. If you’re worried about rotting the strings, soak the blinds in vinegar.

Line the tub with a towel before adding the blinds to prevent scratching the finish of the tub. Also, make sure the blinds are open, so the slats don’t stick together. After the blinds have soaked for about 30 minutes, rinse them off and hang them outside to dry. When they are completely dry, rehang. One final trick: Wipe your newly clean blinds with a sheet of fabric softener to prevent dust from building up.

Glass shower doors make a beautiful statement in the bathroom, but you have to keep them clean just like your windows.

Soap builds up, so you can’t just use a simple glass cleaner to cut through the grime. With the right method, you can remove soap scum and leave your shower door sparkling.

Tools of the trade

Not all glass shower doors are created equal. Is your shower door flat glass, or does it have a pattern in the glass? You’ll need different tools for different types of glass. Also, are you dealing with soap scum, hard water stains or streaks? Each of these situations requires a separate cleaner. To be safe, you should have the following supplies on hand for cleaning glass shower doors:

Soft sponge with a scrubbing side

Old toothbrush (for cracks and crevices)

Squeegee

Soft cloth

Cleaning Products

If you haven’t been taking good care of your shower, you’ll need some products to remove soap buildup. After you thoroughly clean your shower once, you’ll be able to maintain the shine with fewer products.

You can remove hard water stains with a product like CLR. CLR is available at most major grocery stores or hardware stores. Since it is so powerful, you probably won’t need to use it more than once on cleaning shower doors.

Fortunately, you can use it on other projects around the house.

If you don’t want to use a harsh chemical, lemon oil is another good solution for hard water stains. Rub the lemon oil on the glass and then immediately wipe it off with a soft cloth. The lemon oil will act as a barrier from future hard water build up.

After removing the hard water stains, it’s time to get rid of soap scum and grime. You have one of two choices. You can use the natural method, or you can use a store bought method. If you want to go natural, try a combination of ½ cup of vinegar and ½ a cup of water.

Run the hot water in the shower until the room is filled with steam then spray down the walls with your mixture. Use a sponge to wipe down the walls and the old toothbrush to clean the caulking and the fixtures. Let the solution sit for five minutes and then wipe down with a clean, wet sponge or use a squeegee.

Commercial all purpose cleaners can be used in the same way. Spray down the walls with the cleaner, rinse with clean water and then wipe down with a clean wet sponge or use a squeegee.

In order to keep your glass shower clean without glass cleaners, have each of your family members use a squeegee after taking a shower. This way you’ll avoid build up and won’t have to clean your shower doors as often.

For the first time ever, Sarasota officials were spraying down the sidewalks the day after the 2011 festival, erasing the hundreds of chalk traditional, mosaic and 3D artworks created by artists from around the world.

Luckily for those who missed the event, which ran from Nov. 1-7, 2011, the Sarasota Chalk Festival had many avid fans snapping pictures of the exquisite artwork. If you didn’t get a chance to see some of the world’s most talented chalk artists at work, this is your chance.

The theme this year was “Pavement Art Through the Ages,” and artists could choose from four categories: Traditional Street Paintings, spanning subjects from the 1500s to the pre-1940s; the Grazie Di Curtatone Competition, a 24-hour contest between professional artists; 3D Pavement Art, shwocasing anamorphism or a technique used to create the illusions of depth and height; and Contemporary Pavement Art, where artists can examine the future or reflect their own culture and inspirations.

You can see some great pictures and video here.

Sarasota from Wikpedia:

Sarasota is a city located in Sarasota County on the southwestern coast of the U.S. state of Florida. It is south of the Tampa Bay Area and north of Fort Myers. Its current official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

These islands separating Sarasota Bay from the gulf near the city, known as keys, include Lido Key and Siesta Key, which are famous worldwide for the quality of their sandy beaches.

Today the keys that are included in the boundary of Sarasota are Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, Coon Key, Bird Key, and portions of Siesta Key. Previously, Siesta Key was named Sarasota Key. At one time, it and all of Longboat Key were considered part of Sarasota and confusing contemporaneous references may be found discussing them.

Longboat Key is the largest key separating the bay from the gulf, but it is now evenly divided by the new county line of 1921. The portion of the key that parallels the Sarasota city boundary that extends to that new county line along the bay front of the mainland was removed from the city boundaries at the request of John Ringling in the mid-1920s, who sought to avoid city taxation of his planned developments at the southern tip of the key. Although they never were completed in the quickly faltering economy, those development concessions granted by the city never were reversed and the county has retained regulation of those lands ever since.

According to the U. S. Census Bureau, Sarasota had a population of 52,488 in 2007.[8] In 1986 it became designated as a certified local government. Sarasota is a principal city of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the seat of Sarasota County.

It is among the communities included in a two-county federally mandated Metropolitan Planning Organization that includes all of Sarasota and Manatee counties[9] and the chairs of the three elements of that organization belong to the eight-county regional planning organization for western central Florida.[10]

President Bush was visiting an elementary school in Sarasota when the September 11 attacks took place.

This is a re-post from readwriteweb about Google+. I am a fan of the new Google+ and now favor it over facebook by a ton. Just like facebook did, it takes a day to get the feel for it. I like that it is so much more quiet and has a professionalism about it that is lacking in facebook.
The full article can be read here, only an excerpt is below.

Every year at this time, ReadWriteWeb picks out the best of the Web over the past calendar year. Our annual Best Of series will be even bigger and better than ever in 2011! We have no less than ten themed ‘top 10′ lists coming your way over the following four weeks before Christmas, each prepared by a different member of our writing team. We’ll also survey the top trends of 2011, along with other regular features such as Best BigCo and LittleCo of the year. To kick things off, today we present our list of the 10 best social network and social media products of 2011.

Almost every Web product these days has some kind of social element. But to make this list, the product has to have social networking or community building as a core part of its offering. So without further ado, here are our top 10 Social Web products of 2011:

ReadWriteWeb’s Best of 2011

1. Google+

Up till 2011, Google wasn’t known for its social networking prowess. Unless you count Orkut, a social network product that became a phenomenon…in Brazil only. At the end of June 2011 that all changed, with the worldwide launch of (in our opinion) the best social network product of the year: Google+.

It was a muddled launch. Back in March, ReadWriteWeb’s Marshall Kirkpatrick got the scoop about a new Google product based on a circles concept. At the time, Google vigorously denied the existence of such a product. But lo and behold, Google+ launched over three months later – and its core feature was indeed “circles.” With circles you could better segment your friends, something that was a major pain point in Facebook.

Initially Google+ launched to a chorus of media outlets shouting “Facebook killer.” However, it soon became apparent that Google+ was going to be most useful to Google as the social component of its entire online product suite: including Google search, Google Reader and YouTube. Although it’s a more than useful standalone social network, too. Particularly for topic-focused discussions. Google+ has grown rapidly, attaining over 40 million users in a matter of months – although just how many are active is a contentious point.
