Recently I just noticed that some of my files' font is color blue wherein it's supposed to be in black. Since I am not that techie, here's where Google once again gave me the answer. :) Anyway, here's what it looks like:

I have read that it is due to data encryption of the file or due to the data compression feature of Windows to save up some space. Though it has not much noticeable effect on the affected files (except that, as you can see, it is BLUE), it kinda bugs me on some extent so I decided to fix it.

For those that are also quite annoyed on this aspect, here's a simple tutorial to fix this issue. Just to note, I am doing this on a specific hard disk and not just for a specific file/folder. But in any case, the procedure's just the same. :)

Locate the file/folder (in my case its the whole hard drive) that you want to uncompress.

Now, right-click the specific file/folder and click Properties.

Search for a checkbox with a tagline of "Compress contents to save disk space". If there's a check, uncheck it and press OK/Apply.

For files/folders: Right-click > Properties > General tab > Advanced

If the filesize or content is kinda big, just wait for it to finish.

Voila! Everythings all black now. :D Congratulations!

Uh, wait. Why am I posting it here anyway? 'Cause I'm one of the examinees of the board exam. Yeap. You heard it right. :)

Since it was the last day of our examination, I thought that I can calmly wait for the results. As a matter of fact, during or even before our examination, I'm not nervous at all. It's not like I'm completely assured of myself though. I really can't explain it. But after when I got home on the last day of examination, that's the time that I am emotionally and mentally wrecked. And man! Waiting for even just 24 hours for the result is a total rip off! Now I can relate what our reviewers kept on telling us that the "pressure" will fall upon us during the waiting period. And it was no joke! Seriously, I cannot imagine myself waiting for more or less 6 months just to see the results! In any case, it kept on bugging me minute by minute whether am I gonna pass or not. And yes! Prayers was really my key weapon against it. Through prayers and hearing the Words of God really helped me release the stress.

So, what's the result? :)

What do you think? Did I pass or not? :)

In any case, here's a direct quotation from the PRC website of the related topic.

Last night my computer is running smoothly as it should be. But today, my computer got some bugs in it. I really have no idea why. When I open any folder, it keeps popping out a new window. So when I have to go to a deeper file, there are multiple windows open as well. And yes, it's very annoying!!!

So I was planning to reformat my computer just to fix this issue. And thankfully, my USB is not within my reach so I had to find an alternative to fix this. All thanks to Mr. Google and I was able to make it without all the hassle of reformatting and installing everything again from scratch.

I've tried a couple of tips and tricks to get through (folder options settings and modifying the registry even not having any knowledge with it), and sad to say they're not working for me. :(

Good thing is that I found David's Blog and gave me the fix that I certainly need!
Here is the exact page that solved my problem (I'm using Win7 x32 by the way):

Solution: Explorer open each folder in same window error and SQL Management Studio, IE and Team Explorer errors

Hopefully if you're also facing this dilemma, this fix can help you out. :)

WMP Taskband Substitute for Win7 Users

Many Windows 7 users misses the "WMP Taskbar/Taskband" (including me). And despite of all the advantages of WMP 12 offers, some still prefers to even downgrade to WMP 11 just to be able to use the taskband again. While some just hacks the system to enable the taskband using WMP 12. Although for others, they find it bothersome that the taskband won't go away even if you close the player. And some other reasons they may find so they will not even try to use the hacked version of the taskband (again, this includes me :P). The hacked taskband for WMP 12 supposedly to look like this if you were able to do it properly:

If you're interested in the hacked version, here's a tutorial that you might find useful: Click here ^o^

Anyway, I'm here to introduce a substitute for the taskband. Others may already know it , but I found this out just by exploring the player.

In any case, I'm quite sure that you're already aware of the "Aero Peek" that the WMP 12 offers replacing the beloved taskband. But for those that still don't know about this, just simply click the "Minimize" button and hover your mouse pointer to the minimized player and poof! You're done! It should look like this:

And then there's the "Skin Mode" version. I don't know what to call it but it's the one I'm currently using. Here's the few steps that you'll need to follow:

Open WMP. By default, the menu bar will be hidden. You can easily activate or access it by right-clicking anywhere on the upper and lower portion of the player.

Now click "Tools" then "Options..."

A pop-up will show up, now put a check on "Keep Now Playing on top of other windows" then click "Ok".

Click "View" then choose "Skin Chooser".

By default, there are two skins to choose from; Corporate and Revert. Choose "Revert" and then click "Apply Skin".

Drag the player anywhere that you'll find it comfortable and will not disturb your work. I placed mine just above the start menu and it should look like this (the finished product):

When inactive:

When active (just hover your mouse over to the player):

And after setting it up, just click "View>Skin" or simply "Ctrl + 2" and repeat Step 6. :)

Hope you'll find this useful. :D

Computer Retrieval Disappointment

Last month my computer got busted (no idea why), and gladly it's still covered by its warranty. So on March 10, we went back to PC Express (since it's where I bought my CPU, including its case) and dropped off my CPU for repairs. The technician advised me to leave the whole unit for a thorough inspection. He did not say when I can get it back, instead he gave me their branch's phone number so I can update its current status. I decided to give them a week before making a phone call. And so, after a week, I called and they said that they pulled-out my HDD and my RAM to be sent to its respective manufacturers to have a better look. Days have passed, weeks, and now finally a month before I got my unit back. And man! It was a long month! I'm not quite used not having my computer around, so I just settled with my phone to go online (at least even accessing facebook through my phone is better than nothing).

Finally, this is the day that I kept on waiting for! The day I can have my unit back! I was so excited that as early as 10am (that's the time when I usually wakes up :P), I called and asks for a status update. And at last! They gave me their go signal to pick it up. What irritates me is this, when I rode the bus, the bus driver pulled over way pass the bus stop. So I had to walk way farther. Then here's this snobbish woman on the jeepney who won't reach out in taking/giving other people's fare/change. Upon reaching my destination, the PC Express Gilmore branch, I waited for a couple of minutes before being entertained. When I finally got my turn, here's the technician explaining all the repairs that has been made. And it was all okay, it's just that I noticed that my unit has been all covered by dust. And what's worse is that my new CPU case got lots of scratches that all came from them! (-_-#) I kept my cool down and just went along. After all the talking, the technician just said that "It's okay now, thank you". Giving me my unit without it's appropriate box (which was included when I left my CPU with them)! Okay then, everybody makes mistakes. Everything's good to go now, I picked-up my unit without any of the branch's personnel assisting me at least towards the door (their office is located on the 2nd floor without escalators/elevator)! When I was nearly at the door, the box's handle snapped so one of PC Express's personnel took the baggage back to where I came from to tie it up. Just when I thought that "Finally, a gentleman!", I shouldn't have. After tying the box, he just gave it back to me for me to carry it back! A very big thumbs down for PC Express!!! Anyway, I was already in a really bad mood after all those ruckus. Rode a cab going home. When I thought that I can have a good ride back, I was wrong (again). The taxi barely got its air conditioning unit to function and the sun is directly shinning on me! And I tell you, it was very hot!
So here I am (again), posting it here in my blog. =P

The following is from a British journalist stationed in the Philippine documenting his observations. This was written in 1999.

---------------------------------------------------------------
"Matter of Taste"
by Matthew Sutherland

I have now been in this country for over six years, and consider myself in most respects well assimilated. However, there is one key step on the road to full asimilation, which I have yet to take, and that's to eat BALUT. The day any of you sees me eating balut, please call immigration and ask them to issue me a Filipino passport. Because at that point there will be no turning back. BALUT, for those still blissfully ignorant non-Pinoys out there, is a fertilized duck egg. It is commonly sold with salt in a piece of newspaper, much like English fish and chips, by street vendors usually after dark, presumably so you can't see how gross it is. It's meant to be an aphrodisiac, although I can't imagine anything more likely to dispel sexual desire than crunching on a partially formed baby duck swimming in noxious fluid. The embryo in the egg comes in varying stages of development, but basically it is not considered macho to eat one without fully discernable feathers, beak, and claws. Some say these crunchy bits are the best. Others prefer just to drink the so-called 'soup', the vile, pungent liquid that surrounds the aforementioned feathery fetus... excuse me; I have to go and throw up now. I'll be back in a minute.

Food dominates the life of the Filipino. People here just love to eat. They eat at least eight times a day. These eight official meals are called, in order: breakfast, snacks, lunch, merienda, pica-pica, pulutan, dinner, and no-one-saw-me-take-that-cookie-from-the-fridge-so-it-doesn't-count. The short gaps in between these mealtimes are spent eating Sky Flakes from the open packet that sits on every desktop. You're never far from food in the Philippines. If you doubt this, next time you're driving home from work, try this game. See how long you can drive without seeing food and I don't mean a distant restaurant, or a picture of food. I mean a man on the sidewalk frying fish balls, or a man walking through the traffic selling nuts or candy. I bet it's less than one minute.

Here are some other things I've noticed about food in the Philippines. Firstly, a meal is not a meal without rice - even breakfast. In the UK, I could go a whole year without eating rice. Second, it's impossible to drink without eating. A bottle of San Miguel just isn't the same without gambas or beef tapa. Third, no one ventures more than two paces from their house without baon and a container of something cold to drink. You might as well ask a Filipino to leave home without his pants on. And lastly, where I come from, you eat with a knife and fork. Here, you eat with a spoon and fork. You try eating rice swimming in fish sauce with a knife.

One really nice thing about Filipino food culture is that people always ask you to SHARE their food. In my office, if you catch anyone attacking their baon, they will always go, "Sir! KAIN TAYO!" ("Let's eat!"). This confused me, until I realized that they didn't actually expect me to sit down and start munching on their boneless bangus. In fact, the polite response is something like, "No thanks, I just ate."

But the principle is sound - if you have food on your plate, you are expected to share it, however hungry you are, with those who may be even hungrier. I think that's great. In fact, this is frequently even taken one step further. Many Filipinos use "Have you eaten yet?" ("KUMAIN KA NA?") as a general greeting, irrespective of time of day or location.

Some foreigners think Filipino food is fairly dull compared to other Asian cuisines. Actually lots of it is very good: Spicy dishes like Bicol Express (strange, a dish named after a train); anything cooked with coconut milk; anything KINILAW; and anything ADOBO. And it's hard to beat the sheer wanton, cholesterolic frenzy of a good old-fashioned LECHON de leche feast. Dig a pit, light a fire, add 50 pounds of animal fat on a stick, and cook until crisp. Mmm, mmm... you can actually feel your arteries constricting with each successive mouthful.

I also share one key Pinoy trait --- a sweet tooth. I am thus the only foreigner I know who does not complain about sweet bread, sweet burgers, sweet spaghetti, sweet banana ketchup, and so on. I am a man who likes to put jam on his pizza. Try it!

It's the weird food you want to avoid. In addition to duck fetus in the half-shell, items to avoid in the Philippines include pig's blood soup (DINUGUAN); bull's testicle soup, the strangely-named "SOUP NUMBER FIVE" (I dread to think what numbers one through four are); and the ubiquitous, stinky shrimp paste, BAGOONG, and it's equally stinky sister, PATIS. Filipinos are so addicted to these latter items that they will even risk arrest or deportation trying to smuggle them into countries like Australia and the USA, which wisely ban the importation of items you can smell from more than 100 paces.

Then there's the small matter of the blue ice cream. I have never been able to get my brain around eating blue food; the ubiquitous UBE leaves me cold.

And lastly on the subject of weird food, beware: that KALDERETANG KAMBING (goat) could well be KALDERETANG ASO (dog)...

The Filipino, of course, has a well-developed sense of food. Here's a typical Pinoy food joke: "I'm on a seafood diet. "What's a seafood diet?" "When I see food, I eat it!"

Filipinos also eat strange bits of animals --- the feet, the head, the guts, etc., usually barbecued on a stick. These have been given witty names, like "ADIDAS" (chicken's feet); "KURBATA" (either just chicken's neck, or "neck and high" as in "neck-tie"); "WALKMAN" (pigs ears); "PAL" (chicken wings); "HELMET" (chicken head); "IUD" (chicken intestines), and BETAMAX" (video-cassette-like blocks of animal blood). Yum, yum. Bon appetite.

"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches" -- (Proverbs 22:1)

WHEN I arrived in the Philippines from the UK six years ago, one of the first cultural differences to strike me was names. The subject has provided a continuing source of amazement and amusement ever since.

The first unusual thing, from an English perspective, is that everyone here has a nickname. In the staid and boring United Kingdom, we have nicknames in kindergarten, but when we move into adulthood we tend, I am glad to say, to lose them.

The second thing that struck me is that Philippine names for both girls and boys tend to be what we in the UK would regard as overbearingly cutesy for anyone over about five. Fifty-five-year-olds colleague put it. Where I come from, a boy with a nickname like Boy Blue or Honey Boy would be beaten to death at school by pre-adolescent bullies, and never make it to adulthood. So, probably, would girls with names like Babes, Lovely, Precious, Peachy or Apples. Yuk, ech ech.

Here, however, no one bats an eyelid. Then I noticed how many people have what I have come to call "door-bell names". These are nicknames that sound like - well, doorbells. There are millions of them. Bing, Bong, Ding, and Dong are some of the more common. They can be, and frequently are, used in even more door-bell-like combinations such as Bing-Bong, Ding-Dong, Ting-Ting, and so on. Even our newly appointed chief of police has a doorbell name Ping. None of these doorbell names exist where I come from, and hence sound unusually amusing to my untutored foreign ear. Someone once told me that one of the Bings, when asked why he was called Bing, replied, "because my brother is called Bong". Faultless logic. Dong, of course, is a particularly funny one for me, as where I come from "dong" is a slang word for well; perhaps "talong" is the best Tagalog equivalent.

Repeating names was another novelty to me, having never before encountered people with names like Len-Len, Let-Let, Mai-Mai, or Ning-Ning. The secretary I inherited on my arrival had an unusual one: Leck-Leck. Such names are then frequently further refined by using the "squared" symbol, as in Len2 or Mai2. This had me very confused for a while.

Then there is the trend for parents to stick to a theme when naming their children. This can be as simple as making them all begin with the same letter, as in Jun, Jimmy, Janice, and Joy.

More imaginative parents shoot for more sophisticated forms of assonance or rhyme, as in Biboy, Boboy, Buboy, Baboy (notice the names get worse the more kids there are-best to be born early or you could end up being a Baboy). Even better, parents can create whole families of, say, desserts (Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Honey Pie) or flowers (Rose, Daffodil, Tulip). The main advantage of such combinations is that they look great painted across your trunk if you're a cab driver. That's another thing I'd never seen before coming to Manila -- taxis with the driver's kids' names on the trunk.

Another whole eye-opening field for the foreign visitor is the phenomenon of the "composite" name. This includes names like Jejomar (for Jesus, Joseph and Mary), and the remarkable Luzviminda (for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, believe it or not). That's a bit like me being called something like "Engscowani" (for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Between you and me, I'm glad I'm not.

And how could I forget to mention the fabulous concept of the randomly inserted letter 'h'. Quite what this device is supposed to achieve, I have not yet figured out, but I think it is designed to give a touch of class to an otherwise only averagely weird name. It results in creations like Jhun, Lhenn, Ghemma, and Jhimmy. Or how about Jhun-Jhun (Jhun2)?

How boring to come from a country like the UK full of people with names like John Smith. How wonderful to come from a country where imagination and exoticism rule the world of names.

Even the towns here have weird names; my favorite is the unbelievably named town of Sexmoan (ironically close to Olongapo and Angeles). Where else in the world could that really be true? Where else in the world could the head of the Church really be called Cardinal Sin? Where else but the Philippines!

Note: Philippines has a senator named Joker, and it is his legal name.

Address Bar Default Search Engine - Mozilla Firefox

When I reformatted my computer, as of course I have to reinstall everything. And one of those will be the Yahoo Messenger. This little piece of software kinda irritates me because it's doing some things that the user does not asks/wants. One of those stuff is changing your default address bar search engine.

The good thing though is that there's a solution for this mess. If you would like to configure your default search engine for your address bar, just follow these easy steps:

Type "about:config" in your address bar.

Click "I'll be careful, I promise!"

Type "keyword.url" in the filter box.

Edit the input in the Value Column by double-clicking on it.

Replace the values with any of these values:

For Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky", enter http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

For Google's "Browse by Name", enter http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

For Google Search, enter http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

For Scroogle, enter http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=

For Bing, enter http://bing.com/results.aspx?q=

For Ixquick, enter http://ixquick.com/do/metasearch.pl?language=english&cat=web&query=

For Yahoo!, enter http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=

Sources:

About:Config

Location Bar

Keyword.URL

WMP 12: Empty Library

We all know that there are different software platforms available for different operating systems. When I was still in XP, the media player I used was WMP 11 at the most. Everything just went fine although there are some features that the old media players have that I prefer, but heck, time to cope with all the changes. WMP 11 is a separable installation from WinXP, but WMP 12 is inclusive to Win7 installation. I'm just not sure if there's a separate installer (for WMP12) available right now but when I tried searching for it, I can't find any. Anyway, going to the main subject. At first, there is no complaints on my side upon using WMP 12. But just yesterday, when I tried to have some musical background while online, I noticed that my library is EMPTY!!! Yeah, you heard it right. I got tons of mp3 running on my system and the distinct music folder is already added to my library. So I re-checked everything and could not find any problems with my current settings. No error messages, no pop-up messages, etc. So using my best source of information, the INTERNET (all hail to whom developed this technology!), I found a couple of answers that might help me out.

First is coming from "How-To Geek". The post can be found here: How-To Geek
I am not quite sure if the author's post is referring to a different operating system environment (although I highly doubt that). But for those who are not a geek (like me) for this kind of stuffs and want to have specific directions, here are some small notes based on the original author's post. Again, I am using Win7 Ultimate.

In the part where you are going to "Services", the specific path would be "Control Panel → Systems and Security → Administrative Tools → Services". Although you really don't need to go all the trouble, just type "Services" in the Start Menu Search.

In the part of going to "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\", this can be simply copy-pasted to the address bar of your explorer window. But if you want it the hard way, here it is. First is that you have to enable viewing hidden files. Then open Computer → C → Users → *your profile* → AppData → Local → Microsoft → Media Player.

I followed all the instructions given by the author and everything went well. But, I tried closing the WMP and opening it again. And the sad part is I encountered the same problem again. So I'm back to nothing.

I read some comments on that page and found a referred solution by one of the commenter, so I went along. It was commented by "Jerome", the referred page can be found here: Click Me :3
But tough luck, it did not worked for me. ;(

Back to step 1, searching...
I stumbled upon a similar problem posted in the Windows Client TechCenter (which can be found here: WCT), and found lots of suggestions. Although haven't tried any of them. ｡◕ ‿ ◕｡ There were just too many (?_?) and a bit more technical than what I need <strike>want</strike>. So I let this one pass and moved along. Feel free to try them yourselves.

A little bit more of googling, I stumble upon Sebaz Vista's post (it's in here: Click Me). To be specific, go to Control Panel → Find and Fix Problem (under System and Security) → Programs → Windows Media Player Settings. Or simply type "Troubleshooting" in the search box of Start Menu. Then follow the wizard, and voila! It fixed my issue, case closed. (9^_^)9

Update:
In connection to the last attempt through the troubleshooting method, after a couple of restart with the WMP, the issue came back. So it does not end there. Anyway, I haven't read this anywhere but I attempted to use it. This can be found also in the "Troubleshooting" folder. Just use the "Windows Media Player Library" feature instead of the "Windows Media Player Setting". As of now, it did the trick. Hopefully it'll last. Try not to cry.

This one e-mail really touched my heart and I almost cry while reading it. Although at first I thought it was some kind of a prank e-mail again where something will jump on the screen or something like that. It may form part of a chain message kind of a thing but it is really worth sharing. :) I'll quote everything down. So just sit back and read.

She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: 'How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?'

The surgeon said, 'I'm sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn't make it.'

Sally said, 'Why do little children get cancer? Doesn't God care anymore? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?'

The surgeon asked, 'Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university.'

Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good bye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair. 'Would you like a lock of his hair?' the nurse asked. Sally nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally.

The mother said, 'It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the University for Study. He said it might help somebody else. 'I said no at first, but Jimmy said, 'Mom, I won't be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom.' She went on, 'My Jimmy had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could.'

Sally walked out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy's belongings on the seat beside her in the car.

The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy's belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son's room.

She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them She lay down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.

It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Lying beside her on the bed was a folded letter. The letter said :

'Dear Mom,

I know you're going to miss me; but don't think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say 'I Love You' . I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day.. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won't be so lonely, that's okay with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same things us boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know..

Don't be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool. I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of his pictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him.. Jesus himself took me to see GOD! And guess what, Mom? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter ! off to you. God said for me to give you the answer to one of the questions you asked Him 'where was He when I needed him?' 'God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children.

Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool? I have to give God His pen back now He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I'm sure the food will be great.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don't hurt anymore the cancer is all gone.. I'm glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. That's when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?

Signed with Love from God, Jesus & Me.

( Let's see Satan stop this one. ) Take 60 seconds and repost this, within the hour, you will have caused a multitude of believers to pray to God for each other. Then sit back and feel the Holy Spirit work in your life for doing what you know God loves 'When you're down to nothing, God is up to something.'

Lately I had been hooked in downloading, watching, and burning to DVD a bunch of various animes. But what came into my surprise is that most of the videos I downloaded are all in a .mkv file extension. So even watching it gave me a big question mark. Although it was not much of a problem for me, since I have a installed program that was able to play these videos. Though I tried playing it in Windows Media Player was a big failure... at first... :P

So let's cut to the chase. I am no techie geek with regard to these file extensions so don't expect too much. In addition, these are just all based on my experience. Anyway, here are some of the things that might help you with some problems that you might encounter with matroska videos.

Just like what I have said, watching .mkv files was no biggie. The video player that came in handy for me that time is the "CyberLink PowerDVD 10". This video player not only can play .mkv extensions but also serve as a great software in playing DVDs. Full details can be found here: CyberLink PowerDVD

Anyway, if you guys find it bothersome to purchase PowerDVD, you can still use your very own Windows Media Player. I am not quite sure if this will work with the older versions of the media player, but the one I'm using is Windows Media Player 11. Although before that you have to install a video filter to be able to watch it in your WMP. You can use CCCP for this, ou can grab it here: CCCP Download. If after installing the filter the video still won't work, try updating your Windows, it might do the trick ;)

Okay that's all that I have to spill out in watching this kind of video file. If you would like to burn it into DVD, you might still have a problem. I used Nero 9 to create and burn DVD videos and sad to say, it cannot recognize .mkv extensions. To solve that problem, either you use Nero 10 (since this version can already recognize .mkv files) or you convert your matroska files into any acceptable format for your burning software. I have the "Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD" and yes it can recognize the matroska files but I haven't tried burning my downloaded videos from the .mkv extension. If you would like to learn more about it, read the details here: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD.

I'm just a simple person and I prefer simpler ways to do things. There are a lot of video converting softwares available in the market, but my favorite would be 4videosoft Video Converter. It can convert almost all of the video file extensions, extract audio from videos, and love its simplicity. I used to have 4videosoft converter platinum, and sadly it can't recognize the matroska files. Probably since its the old version though :P. So I upgraded the software and switched to 4videsoft Video Converter Ultimate, and that hit the spot! For further details about this software, check it out here: 4videsoft Video Converter Ulitmate

There is one drawback though with 4videosoft, I can't make it convert the matroska files along with it's subtitle. And this is a big issue for me since I am watching animes, I need the subtitles very badly! So I roam around to look for an answer to this problem. And it was a success!!! I found two softwares that can help me out. First one would be AVS Video Converter 7. This software can also do as much as 4videoft's. But the one thing I hate about it is its complexity in extracting audios from videos. I even have to read the "Help" section to find it out. So it's a big disappointment for me cause extracting audio files is one of the major things I need in these kinds conversion software. The only thing that I need it is for its capacity to convert the matroska file along with its subtitles. Yay! BUT! The subtitle's quality is not that good. I'll demonstrate it later. :P For more details, you can find it out here: AVS Video Converter

Let's move on to the next one, this time it's a converter specifically for converting .MKV files to .AVI files only. It's "MKV To AVI With Subtitle" (let's just use MtoA for simplicity). Yup, you read it right. It's somewhat generic and not that kinda flashy, ain't it? The good thing about it is that the subtitle's quality are quite good. Although there are certain drawbacks. First is that you have to convert each file one by one. You cannot make it have multiple inputs to multiple outputs. Second is that, it can only convert .MKV to .AVI with subtitles thus cannot serve any other purpose. This is for those people who prefer more quality for subtitles. I think that the subtitle conversion used by MtoA depends on how the one who created the video. You can read more details here: MKV to AVI with Subtitle

Now with the output comparison between these two softwares. Although AVS got lots of advantages between MtoA, I still prefer MtoA over AVS. I'll just let you decide for yourselves. Here is a side by side output comparison.

Hope this article can help you out. :) Goodluck!

Just a little message...

After the said incident, many people are blaming the WHOLE Filipino community. And even CNN directly said that "Philippines, the worst place to go...". I know that it was such a big failure for the Philippine Government, especially the police force. But putting the blame to the whole community is a bit too much. Nobody wants what happened back there. In any case, here is a little message, especially to the Chinese Nationals who keep on discriminating Filipinos due to what happened. It's a text message that is just being forwarded to some Filipinos here in the Philippines...

You hate Filipinos for the hostage fiasco earlier this week, right? Then, should I hate Chinese people for the lead poisoning and melamine contamination? Where in not eight but hundreds, maybe even thousands have suffered. Is it right to blame a whole nation for a mistake of one man? If you do, then you are most certainly DENSE. No arguments. Just an opinion.

Right now the song "Alejandro" by Lady Gaga is very popular. The song is catchy as well as it's music but one thing that bothers me is its music video. For those who haven't seen it, you can watch it here:

As far as what I can understand on the lyrics, it's a song for a man whom the woman once loved. But the music video is rather odd with its theme. A few days ago, I received a text message regarding the "real" meaning of the song. Here's the message that I received:

ALEJANDRO means a man's defender and protector (GOD).

FERNANDO means an ardent of peace (JESUS).

ROBERTO means bright or shining flame (HOLY SPIRIT).

BABE is synonymous to CHILD.

Don't call my name, don't call my name , GOD, I'm not your CHILD, I'm not your CHILD, JESUS. Don't call my name, don't call my name, HOLY SPIRIT, just let me go.
- Lady Gaga

Blasphemous insult concealed in an art.

Now that I think about it, if you're going to look at it at that view, the video's theme is very appropriate. Now I wonder if it's the real meaning of the song or not.

P-Noy's First SoNA (July 26, 2010)

I browsed around some of my old e-mails and stumbled upon this very old e-mail that was forwarded to me. I found it cute when I first read it but still find it interesting until now. xD

I will copy here the exact message from my e-mail, so enjoy!!! :D

Read this "HATE letter". It is so funny and creative.
This is a love letter from a boy to a girl....
However, the girl's father does not like him and want them stop the relationship......
So the boy wrote this letter to the little girl.

"The great love that I have for you

is gone, and I find my dislike for you

grows every day. When I see you,

I do not even like your face;

the one thing that I want to do is to

look at other girls. I never wanted to

marry you. Our last conversation

was very boring and has not

made me look forward to seeing you again.

You think only of yourself.

If we were married, I know that I would find

life very difficult, and I would have no

pleasure in living with you. I have a heart

to give, but it is not something that

I want to give to you. No one is more

foolish and selfish than you, and you are not

able to care for me and help me.

I sincerely want you to understand that

I speak the truth. You will do me a favor

if you think this the end. Do not try

to answer this. Your letters are full of

things that do not interest me. You h! ave no

true love for me. Good bye! Believe me,

I do not care for you. Please do not think that

I am still your boyfriend."

So bad!!

However, the boy told the girl before to "READ BETWEEN THE LINES",
meaning only to read
1. 3. 5. 7. 9. 11. 13. (odd numbers.)

Eye Illusions
On our first meeting, our professor asks us to look up at some of NGAs (National Government Agencies), LGUs ( Local Government Units), and GOCCs (Government Owned and/or Controlled Corporations). Honestly, it took me some time to search for the updated list of the Philippine GOCCs since our country belongs to the developing countries, it is not widely popular on the web even googling it is kinda hard. Although I managed to find it! Whew! Or else, I'm dead. xD Anyway, I found the link by the help of someone's post (thank you whoever you are!!! :D) that links to one of the government website which lists down ALL of the GOCCs that the Philippine government has. Even though I had some doubts whether it's an updated list or not, I gave them the benefit of doubt and just copied them. :P I don't have much of a choice anyway. xD

So to be able to help you guys, I will copy that list here. :D The list may no longer be updated when you read this post of mine so at the bottom I'll post here as well the source. ^_^
Honestly speaking, I am getting tired of all of our fights. Meaningless fights. Sorry if I did what I did back there. But, as of the current results. I'm so happy. :) Even though I'm still messed up because of all the workload, I am so glad that you're there for me. Doing your best to adjust for me. I know that you're having a hard time to do this, but still you're doing it for me. :) I don't know what else to say, but all I can say is, thank you and E MUJA OUI. ♥,..,♥

Repair Rip-off

About a week ago, my phone has been damaged (once again). I was just sleeping on a couch and just left my phone by my side. When I woke up, I checked on some messages on it and tried to locked it so that I can leave it anywhere secured. But no matter how hard I try to press on the power button (that's where you can activate the lock), it won't respond. So I thought that maybe it's just the phone cover or something. Because the last time it acted that way, the repair man replaced the phone cover and may do some technical stuffs on it or something and it was fixed. The only difference is that I did not witnessed everything. I asked my cousin to bring it to a repair man since I had a spare phone back there. This time, I personally brought it to a repair shop. And of course, I stand by and watched what he will do to my phone. Since there is a free consultation and estimation of the repair cost, I asked for that service first. And when he told me it'll cost me Php 200.00, I tried to asked for a much cheaper price. Well, he said that it's the cheapest around. When I thought about it, I just went along and agreed for it. Of course I said that there should be a warranty on his work and he agreed on it. He gave me a 1 week warranty for it. So he started to uncover my phone a removed the screws. I expected that he'll do bunch of techie stuffs to my phone. But heck, he just picked out a small wire and melted some on the power switch of my phone and that's it. He brought back everything in place and it was done. Although Php 200.00 is not that much, I just thought that it's just a simple job and it already cost that much?! If I just knew that it's just what I have to do, then I would be happy to just do it myself. In any case, as long as it does the trick. I guess I just have to deal with it.

Busted Cellphone

Just a few hours ago (about an hour or two) my cell (Nokia N70) suddenly went blank on me. I was just going to create a new text message then suddenly it got stuck and won't respond. Well I thought it was nothing and maybe a simple restart would do the trick, so I did. I took off the back cover and removed the battery for a minute or two and placed it back. This is where I got shocked! After turning it on and I am now on the main page, suddenly the screen went blank! I got scared back there and thought I broke my phone. So I repeatedly restart my phone (took the battery off and placed it back), but all went down to drain. But this is what I got after doing all those continuous restart, the screen goes blank after my phone's virus scan loaded. There goes my suspect! Therefore I decided to format my phone, but I got no idea how to do it. Tried my luck with the phone's software - Nokia PC Suite, to solve my problem. But everytime I connect the USB cable to my phone, my computer can't detect a connection from my phone! I got my hopes up when finally after lots of attempts, a connection was detected! Finally!!! Now the issue is, the phone still won't respond to any commands I make. So there I thought my only chance of getting back my phone is to let a pro fix my phone. Heck, it'll be kinda waste of money so I just went online and tried to find how to format my phone. At last! I found the solution to my problem! :)

Found a site where the instructions to format N70 can be found. Anyway thanks to that site and my phone is up and running again! :D

For those who want to know how to format their own phones, here's what I did. I don't know whether this trick works with other types of phones but definitely it works with Nokia N70!

Backup your data to your memory card and remove it from your phone. Just to be sure that your memory card will not be affected. ^_^

Switch your phone off.

Press and hold ALL of these keys on your phone: the call key (green button), key 3, and the asterisk (*) key.

Switch on your phone and don't let go of those keys until your phone prompts for your city.

If your phone did not asks for your city, it means the format failed, but if did congratulations! You successfully formatted your phone! :D

Put back your memory card and restore your back up. :)

I learned my lesson there. I'll keep the applications on my phone as minimal as it needs. No more virus scan programs for me. :P

Fast recovery

Although it was not that bad at all, it only worsen on Sunday. Today, I was not able to go to school due to my condition. I slept the whole day! Can you imagine that?!

So far so good, I feel much better now compare to yesterday and this early in the morning. Maybe all I needed was a good rest and proper medication.

Although I was not able to lessen my workload, still this is a good start. :)

Net feeling too well :(

When it was time to go home, I feel really dizzy while riding a jeepney. I can't understand what I was feeling back then. Yesterday (Saturday) morning, it's the start of my cold. I got a runny nose and everything. Although my cough stays low for that day. But today, everything piled up!!! My migraine, runny nose, cough & phlegm all attacked at the same time! The bad thing about it is that, it was during my examination. :(

Right now I can't breath too well. I just hope I can recover as soon as possible. :(

Socializing?
Way back when I was younger, I am able to gain friends in no time at all. I talk to everyone and get a hang of them. Even if they are way off my age group. But as I grow older (I am still young though :P), I am getting less and less friendlier the way I used to be. It's getting harder to enter anyone's social group.

Yes, there are some addition to whom I meet. But additions to whom I know is a very different story.

Staying low profile

I enjoy the excitement plus the compensation I get for playing it. But after the previous round last night, I got disappointed with the prize. After all the work and investments I made for the previous round, despite winning the top position for all the available spots, I got LESS than my previous standing before investing anything for that round. I contacted the admin but he just don't get my logic at all. Although he is such a nice guy.

Anyway, for the past rounds, I already lost lots of credits on my account. So I guess this time, I'll just sit back and watch for now. Until maybe, things get a little brighter for the prizes.
