Today, President Bush signed into law an extension of unemployment benefits.
The Senate approved legislation extending unemployment insurance benefits in all states by seven weeks. There will be an additional 13-week extension for states with unemployment rates above six percent. Benefits are provided in most states for up to 26 weeks.
Yesterday, the labor department reported the [...]

My wife recently applied for an EverBank Yield Pledge Money Market account for their introductory rate. Everbank also “pledges” to stay amongst the top 5% of competitive banks, and I have seen that rate has indeed stayed competitive to other online banks for the last couple of years. (WaMu is now down to 2.25% [...]

Can you imagine life without credit? And yet at one time in the not so recent past (at least for those of us over 40!) credit was only for things like houses, maybe if necessary a car. And even then significant down payments were required. We are a society addicted to credit and instant gratification. [...]

I would never say "Peace out", but it sounds cool on the blog. I am leaving my perch as head of this blog, an amicable parting of ways, a way to free up time for both my regular job and to write longer pieces as a guest elsewhere versus the pressure to come up with something even when the spirit didn't quite move me.

Thanks to all of you who read and commented, even if your only comment was to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. (Which was not news to me, by the way.)

If you're ever looking for a guest blogger on your own finance-related blog, whether for a one-shot post or a fill-in gig, e-mail me at j.mchenry@indexcreditcards.com. I'd love the chance to speak to different audiences from time to time.

With that I can only say...

Peace out, brothers & sisters.

Is Sweden Picking the Vodka Top?

I was very intrigued to see that Absolut has finally been sold, and it makes me wonder: is this the "top" for the premium, marketing-driven vodka market? Now this is just a crazy theory, so feel free to ignore me. But here's my rationale: Everyone talks about the fact that Steve Schwarzman "picked the top" in the private equity business by taking Blackstone Group public last summer, at the
