The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. The program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at universities renowned for their development research and teaching. The objective of these programs is to prepare the participants for effective policy making roles in their home countries and regions. Recipients are expected to return to their home country at the conclusion of their studies to apply their enhanced knowledge and skills to help accelerate the pace of economic and social development. Scholarships are available to applicants who intend to pursue a career in development. To apply for any JJ/WBGSP scholarship, applicants must meet the following specific criteria: be a national of a World Bank member-country; be under 45 years of age, and preferably under the age of 40; be in good health; be of good character; hold, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a development-related field, and have attained the degree with superior grades; have at least two (yet preferably four to five) years of full-time professional experience in a field related to economic development, in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country, and usually in public service.

The program focuses on issues critical to in improving the lives of the most vulnerable people in the developing world. The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program awards fellowships to support innovative and imaginative post-graduate research in areas of socio-economic development. Issues of focus have spanned a range of economic, social, environmental, health and humanitarian sectors. To be eligible for an award, applicants must meet the following criteria: Applicants must be nationals and residents of member countries that are currently eligible to borrow from the World Bank. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree or its equivalent at the time of application. The Program does not finance doctoral studies. Anyone in a doctoral program who is awarded a fellowship must have received the degree before participating in the program. Normally, candidates should be 35 years old or younger. However, the Program has interpreted this requirement with flexibility in the past and will consider exceptional candidates up to age 40. Fellows must conduct their research on one of the topics specified for the Fellowship year. They must carry out their work in their country of residence, in association with a local research advisor.

Africa LLM/MSc Scholarships 2010/2011 – the University of Edinburgh

IMPORTANT!: This schloarship is specifically for applicants who are citizens of (and normally resident in) Angola, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Edinburgh Law School is delighted to announce the launch of the Africa LLM/MSc Tercentenary Scholarship, a new series of scholarships for African students applying for the LLM in Law, the LLMs in Commercial, European, Innovation or International Law, or the MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice. One scholarship will be available each academic year until 2013/2014.

The scholarship will cover the costs of postgraduate tuition fees for one academic year. The successful applicant will also be given a partial maintenance grant to help fund their studies at the University of Edinburgh.

How to apply:
The closing date for the receipt of applications for 2010-2011 will be 31 May 2010. Applicants must send an email to pg.law@ed.ac.uk indicating that they wish to apply for the scholarship. Applications for postgraduate programmes must be made in parallel through the normal University application route.
