Prairie winter sunsets – part 2

Another winter sunset. Yes, yes, but I have to admit that I missed these. The days are getting longer, means that spring is approaching. I mean it’s almost march. I can go out after work, and be able to catch some absolutely lovely sunsets. Most of the time lately they haven’t been very interesting, as in either completely overcast or completely cloudless. I managed to catch a few that were interesting, and here is another one. This is one big bonus living in Alberta. Huge skies, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Enjoy!

Finally the days are a little longer, and when going home after work, I can marvel at some of the most spectacular sunsets of this year Sometimes I will take my little Fuji and drive a little, off the beaten path just to catch them in camera. Enjoy!

Snow and Ice

What is it about shining objects that fascinates us? The sparkling melting snow, covered by a layer of thin ice draws my eyes every time. It was sunny and warm the other day, the snow and ice were melting and one could find me with my camera on my lawn taking pictures and gathering interest from passers by. I can just imagine their thoughts – oh look a crazy lady taking pictures of a pile of snow!! One lady even asked me what it was I was seeing and I answered truthfully: the ice, the sparkle and the rainbow..

Ghost farm at sunrise – Part 2

The beautiful sunrise at the Ghost farm, allowed for a lot of images. Why did I call it like this? The farm house had a strange feel to it. I don’t know if I would go there by myself at night, even though I would imagine it would be a great location to photograph night skies. I might have to ask some friends very nicely to go out with me…. yes I’m a bit of a scary cat

Ghost farm at sunrise

During one of my scouting trips into the Alberta back country, I found this old abandoned farm. At that moment I’ve decided it would be great to visit this place at sunrise. It’s a bit of a drive from my home to this place, so the whole family woke up early, packed up our prepared photo gear, met our friends Jenn and Dustin, and went out exploring the Alberta back country. We made it to the farm with a bit time to spare before the sunrise. A beautiful morning, a little chilly, but then again this was still January. I only took 2 lenses with me. My trusty wide angle, and my tilt shift. Here are the results. Enjoy!

Portraits of a Photographer

I’ve been invited many times to my good friend Randy Pond’s photo shoots. This time it was a fairly large gathering, in terms of photographers… models on the other hand… that’s a different story . Since there was a shortage of models to take photographs of, I decided to take some of the photographers. Danielle Lucier is a great photographer. She specializes in portraits, and is quite amazing at it. Here is what I captured, during our photo shoot. Enjoy!

I’ve posted pictures of Nicole, before. She is truly a great person to work with. It’s just too bad she lives about 100km east of Edmonton. These were shot at the same time as the previous set. I was testing a rented Canon 50mm f1.2 lens, and it was a perfect opportunity. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I know, I know.. It’s late, but we have been very busy today donating our time and services to a worthy cause at our children’s school. We have done a Valentine’s photo-booth allowing students to have different school pictures. With friends of their choice, goofy faces, a prop or two they have all managed to have wonderful fun time and create some great memories. In the process we have managed to help in a school fundraiser which will allow our students access to more field trips, visits from artists and many more things which they would have to either pay for or not be able to participate at all. So with a laugh, a joke and some good will we helped our kids have a very memorable Valentine’s Day. Hope yours was wonderful as well!

Fall Colours – Part 2

Some time ago, in my first post of this series, I have shown you what amazing colours a mountain ash turns during fall. Today, I would like to share a few pictures I took during our trip to the Rockies in October of last year. Mac has already shared some of his images in his post Fall Leafs in Jasper and I thought, it would be nice to show you some of mine as well…

When we arrived the foliage was still covered by frost, that has not managed to melt in the morning sun, but as the day grew warmer all that was left behind was amazing colour. Here it is, the splendour of last fall in Jasper National Park.
