SRINAGAR: Organized under the far-reaching guidance of Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports J&K, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, and Director General of the Department, Anuradha Gupta, cycling events focusing on inspiring long-term healthy living and behavioral modification were organized across the UT of J&K on Sunday.

In a historic display of community mobilization, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) successfully galvanized more than 50,000 youth across the length and breadth of the Union Territory for a synchronized mega-cycling initiative. Driven by the core philosophy of the Fit India Movement and aligned robustly with the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, this massive public outreach program witnessed simultaneous turnouts across all 20 districts and 187 zones of the region.

By channeling the vibrant energy of over 50,000 young citizens into constructive sporting activities, DYSS has reinforced its steadfast commitment to weaving a comprehensive, community-wide message detailing the severe ill effects of drug abuse and substance menace on society. Reports from across the UT indicate that the participation and enthusiasm from every single corner of the region have been highly encouraging, demonstrating a total, unified effort by all districts under the leadership of the Directorate.

Underscoring this grand UT-wide vision, individual districts showcased extraordinary community participation under bright summer skies. In Pulwama, the community cycling event commenced early in the morning from the circular road crossing near the District Jail, covering a scenic three-kilometer route through Chattapora and its adjoining areas. Enthusiastic participants, including students, youth club members, local athletes, and residents, pedaled in unison to promote physical fitness, environmental responsibility, and a drug-free lifestyle.

Highlighting the event's significance, Zonal Physical Education Officer Kakapora, Shahnawaz Hussain lauded the initiative for fostering deep community bonding and behavior change among the youth, reiterating that such programs are central to energizing the younger generation and building a healthier society. The successful execution of the event in Pulwama was further augmented by the vital assistance provided by the local administration, police department, and participating educational institutions.

Simultaneously, a similarly vibrant chapter unfolded in Bandipora, where DYSS organized its cycling event from Kangri Chowk to the Forest Ground in Chatternaar. Designed to instill a culture of daily physical activity and advance the message of a healthy, resilient India, the event saw a massive influx of participants from diverse areas of the district.

Departmental officials expressed immense gratitude to the youth, students, and institutional stakeholders whose active presence transformed the rally into a grand success. Adding to the momentum of this synchronized movement, Budgam also witnessed overwhelming participation as DYSS organized extensive cycling rallies across all zones of the district, including Nagam, Narbal, Magam, and Chadoora. Students, youth, and sports enthusiasts joined the campaign with immense dedication, cycling through designated routes to champion the cause of physical fitness, active living, and environmental awareness.

The events highlighted how incorporating cycling into daily routines functions as both a healthy recreational outlet and an eco-friendly mode of transportation. Departmental officials warmly praised the robust response from the local communities, emphasizing that the coordinated effort across all zones reflects a structured resolve to uplift youth welfare.
Further expanding the sweep of this UT-wide campaign, Reasi also made a significant contribution with a dedicated cycling rally that commenced from the District Youth Services and Sports Office and concluded at the landmark General Zorawar Singh Stadium. Bringing together departmental officials, youth, and sports enthusiasts, the event emphasized the critical intersection of personal physical fitness and environmental sustainability.

Highlighting the purpose of the rally, Asha Devi spoke on the occasion to emphasize that regular physical activity is a cornerstone of daily wellness and a vital tool for enhancing mental well-being. She reiterated that the fundamental goal of the Fit India Movement is to seamlessly cultivate active and conscious lifestyles across all age groups, a mission that directly complements the broader regional effort to guide youth toward healthier life choices.

Magnifying the impact of this synchronized push, Anantnag executed an extensive series of high-impact events spanning multiple zones, perfectly demonstrating the strategic rollout of the detailed activity calendar previously issued by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K. A headline district-level rally kicked off from Bona Dailgam and culminated at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Anantnag, drawing large numbers of students and departmental officials committed to fitness and well-being.

Parallelly, the anti-drug mandate took center stage at the Bijbehara Railway Station, where the Zonal Physical Education Officer Bijbehara, in close coordination with the Railway Police, hosted a dedicated awareness program featuring strict anti-drug pledge-taking ceremonies. The fervor echoed dynamically across other zones of the district as well, with Zone Qazigund and Zone Achabal recording the participation of large-scale student rallies. Zones Shangus, Verinag, and Srigufwara similarly registered enthusiastic participation from local students and field staff. By initiating each of these localized activities with the official Fit India and Anti-Drug pledges, the department successfully reinforced discipline and social responsibility among the younger generation.

Further consolidating this extensive territorial coverage, Rajouri marked Day 7 of the initiative with remarkable grit and energetic displays from local youth and students across the border district. Reflecting on the campaign's local impact, District Youth Services & Sports Officer Rajouri, Wali Mohd highly commended the field staff and participants for their seamless cooperation. He emphasized that establishing regular cycling routines serves as a highly effective, accessible, and enjoyable avenue to maintain holistic physical wellness. The day’s proceedings concluded with a powerful, unified resolution among the regional participants to integrate fitness deeply into their daily lives, ensuring that the younger demographic remains proactively insulated from societal challenges through a shared commitment to community health.

Strengthening this campaign even further, Poonch recorded an extraordinary milestone in youth outreach by organizing a massive array of sports and awareness activities that effectively blanketed the entire border district. The headline event, a high-spirited Bicycle Day Sunday Rally, saw cycling enthusiasts take to the roads to actively broadcast messages of physical fitness, disciplined living, and ecological awareness. Beyond the main cycling track, the department expanded its reach deep into various interior zones, coordinating localized anti-drug awareness campaigns and sporting matches that engaged thousands of students and youth. Spearheaded under the comprehensive supervision of District Youth Services & Sports Officer Poonch, Mohd Qasim, alongside Activity Incharge Vijay Kumar Sharma, these extensive programs successfully guided young minds toward constructive paths. The unprecedented scale of participation across Poonch underscores the community's profound desire to completely root out the substance menace and champion the vision of a resilient, energetic, and healthy society.

Continuing the unbroken momentum of this territorial movement, Kathua also registered a highly successful chapter, gathering an extensive lineup of cyclists from various zones of the district under the Fit India initiative. Supervised directly under the guidance of the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kathua, the localized rally saw students, local sports lovers, and cycling enthusiasts pedal with profound energy through designated regional routes. The participating youth utilized the platform effectively to spotlight the dual benefits of adopting regular physical activity and sustainable, pollution-reducing transportation. Crucially, the contingent in Kathua integrated strong advocacy for clean living into their stride, highlighting the supreme importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life through sustained engagement in competitive sports and wellness programs. This structured effort reinforces the department's firm institutional focus on establishing a deep-rooted culture of community wellness and substance prevention.

Amplifying the valley's collective response, Shopian came alive with tremendous energy as localized cycling rallies were successfully executed across all zonal headquarters of the district under the Fit India program. Students and youth turned out in massive numbers, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to promoting active, healthy, and vibrant lifestyles through regular athletic participation. Crucially, as part of the synchronized events, all participating youth and departmental field functionaries solemnly took the solemn Nasha Mukt Pledge, aligning directly with the ongoing 100-Day Special Campaign of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.

By integrating this powerful pledge-taking ceremony with the physical demands of the cycling tracks, the program in Shopian brought into sharp focus the vital intersection of bodily wellness and collective societal action. The district's efforts highlighted that a sustainable, drug-free future is completely achievable when young citizens unite to foster a disciplined, addiction-free community environment.

Providing a stellar anchor to this simultaneous territory-wide movement, the summer capital city of Srinagar integrated the spirit of World Bicycle Day with a spectacular, high-visibility "Sunday on Cycles" rally. Flagged off from the iconic SKICC Gate and winding along the scenic Boulevard Road before culminating near Nishat Garden, the flagship event mobilized hundreds of young boys and girls who demonstrated remarkable endurance, discipline, and competitive sportsmanship. At the competitive front, the boys category saw Mohammad Adeel of Zone Gulab Bagh secure the coveted first position, followed closely by Fariq Rafiq and Muzaffar Hussain, both representing Zone Hawal. In the girls category, riders from Zone Amira Kadal swept the top honors, with Farah Ahad clinching the first place, followed by Muntaha in second and Mysha Irfan securing third position.

Beyond the athletic triumphs, the culmination point became a major venue for civic sensitization, hosting a massive anti-drug pledge ceremony where participants, parents, and local sports lovers jointly renewed their societal vow to reject substance abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan framework. By wrapping up with a ceremonial distribution of medals and certificates, the initiative effectively channeled competitive sporting pride into a historic milestone for communal health and awareness.

Concluding on an exceptionally positive note, this unified multi-district campaign has set a benchmarking precedent for future fitness-oriented interventions, proving that the collective power of more than 50,000 youth on wheels can serve as a formidable deterrent against social evils. Reports from all remaining districts reinforce that the response has been overwhelmingly positive, showcasing total compliance and energetic participation under the institutional umbrella of the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports.

To change mindsets and dismantle supply chains, our past 57-day campaign has cracked down hard on the drug network in J&K. Over 1,130 smugglers arrested under 1,038 FIRs, 63 detained under PIT-NDPS, and more than 100 properties attached. To completely immobilize these criminals, we have also cancelled 700 driving licenses and moved to revoke 130 passports,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor called for the 'Drug-Free J&K' campaign to reach every household and become a permanent part of public consciousness. True prevention, he emphasized, lies in giving youth a purpose through education, skills, sports, and transforming them into the ultimate weapon against drug addiction.

“The strategy relies on two powerful pillars. First, mobilize Youth Clubs to act as the frontline defence against local drug networks, and putting women in leadership positions so mothers and sisters can drive the campaign to make every village drug-free,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor announced that law enforcement agencies have been given a free hand to completely eradicate the narco-terror ecosystem. Under a newly issued SOP, individuals involved in drug smuggling will face immediate, severe consequences and their passports, driving licenses, arms licenses, and Aadhar are being cancelled, while their movable and immovable assets are being attached under the NDPS Act.

“A drug-free Jammu Kashmir will be born of this mass movement. J&K Police, law enforcement and narcotics agencies to ensure no drug smuggler or drug peddler operates within their jurisdiction. The road ahead is long, but we will not stop until every narco-terror network is dismantled. Our determination is unwavering, our unity invincible, and our mission is to win," the Lieutenant Governor said.
