uTest hires independent contractors for quality assurance testing for various software and hardware. According to their job posting on Dice, their customers include brands like Google, Amazon, Netflix, and more. To get started, fill out their online application (takes approximately 10 minutes), take an audition test to showcase your tech skills, then wait for assignments to be sent to you via email. I wasn’t able to find out how much testers are paid, but the job listing on Dice.com said, “In 2016 alone, we paid out over $20 million to QA testers worldwide.”

As a Functional Tester, you are on a mission to find bugs. A bug is an error or flaw within the software that produces an incorrect or unexpected result. Simply put, a bug is when part of the system is broken or not functioning the way it is supposed to function.

At uTest, they categorize bugs into 5 issue types:

• Functional – Workflow failures.
• Visual – Layout and user interface distortions or mistakes.
• Content – Typos, grammatical issues, and localization errors in the text.
• Performance – Problematic slowness, hanging, or sluggish interface.

uTest Functional Testing Cycles utilize two different Functional Testing methodologies: Exploratory Testing and Test Cases. A Functional Cycle may utilize one or both of these Functional Testing types.

Test Cases are a scripted form of testing where a tester is given a set of steps to follow and told what the expected result should be. The Tester would then follow these instructions to determine whether they lead to the expected result (pass) or if they lead to an unexpected result (fail).

Exploratory Testing is non-scripted. It gives the tester the freedom to explore and investigate the system on their own without a predefined path. Exploratory Testing is useful in finding bugs hiding in places where a developer may not have thought of testing.

How can I receive a paid project opportunity?

Paid Project opportunities are by invitation only. Testers are only eligible to participate in a Paid Project if the information within their Tester Profile matches the requirements of the Test Cycle. The distribution of invitations to eligible testers is determined by many factors.

To improve your chances at receiving paid project invitations:

• Complete all fields within your Tester Profile and keep this information accurate and up-to-date.
• Participate in the uTest Academy Cycles.
• When participating in test cycles report valuable bugs and produce quality bug reports.

When will I be paid?

Payments are generated on the 15th and the last day of every month. During these payment generation dates, funds in your Pending Payment field (as of 1300 GMT on that day) are transferred to your default payment method, so please be sure to set up your payment method before being able to receive funds. From this time, please allow up to 24 hours before receiving funds into your payment account.

Important Note: If the 15th or last day of the month falls on a weekend or business holiday, your pending payment will be noted in the platform under the payment table but paid out on the following Monday. How much can I earn per month as a tester?

The amount of money you can earn depends on your rating as a tester. What data should I give about myself?

When signing up as a tester, you are asked about your basic demographic data, like age, native language, and level of web experience. In what language should I speak?

You should speak in the language of the test. You will be sent tests in your native language and some times in another language that you have set as fluently spoken in your profile. So, you should never be asked to speak in languages that you do not speak fluently.

How can I find coupon codes?
