The array of services will include: Patch Management, Security Auditing, Site Inventory, Real Time Alerting Script Based Management, and Remote Management for all critical server issues.

“Irrespective of the business being small or large, when the consumer chooses iYogi, he leverages the potential of an elite taskforce of Microsoft Certified System Engineers and Cisco Certified Network Associates, ready to service their critical assets, using the most advanced network asset tracking and Performance monitoring”, adds Challu.

Another factor where the Company aims to distinguish itself from its competitors is product pricing. Embracing the concept of service quality, iYogi offers competitively priced technical support services at no-haggle, low prices.

As for its small business support, the Company has integrated its exclusive Monitoring and Alerting Services under one price umbrella of just $480 annually. per server i.e. $49.99 per month. The rounded corners and silver/white overlay contribute to its overall appeal; this printer will look great alongside any desk setup.

You have three options for connecting your computer to the printer: wired via the included USB cable, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. We can confidently state that the Photosmart C8180 is the easiest Wi-Fi printer we've used to date.

Other printers make you pour through pages and pages of instructions and ultimately force you to set up the connection via an ad-hoc network, but the C8180 distills the process down to a simple pairing between the printer and your computer.

In fact, there are no onscreen instructions; you set everything up through the digital LCD on the faceplate itself. From open box to first print, the entire Wi-Fi setup took less than 5 minutes.

Another unique feature to the C8180 is its dual paper input tray. This is bound to be one of those, "Why didn't we think of that?" headaches for HP's competitors, and it really is genius -- the C8180 has two separate paper trays: one for larger 8.5-by-11 inch paper and another for smaller 4-by-6-inch media.

This small hardware addition saves time and desk space by allowing the user to manually select which paper tray will spool from the device, but most of the time the C8180 will choose automatically depending on the job.

The C8180 uses six separate ink cartridges (black, light cyan, light magenta, cyan, magenta, and yellow) and each has its own dedicated bay underneath the hood.

We're happy to see that each cartridge is easily replaceable at a fairly reasonable price. Even though each color costs the same, the page yields vary immensely, so for our calculations we used black and yellow, which apparently yield the most pages.

A black ink cartridge costs $18 and will yield 660 pages, which comes out to 2.7 cents per page and a yellow cartridge costs $10 for 490 pages, or 2 cents a page. Both are reasonable for a photo printer at this price.

Performance

The C8180 printed much slower in all three of our test categories compared with other printers in the same price range. The discrepancy is most obvious in photo prints -- the HP printed almost half a page per minute slower than our other test subjects, including the Brother MFC-685cw, an AIO that lost major points for its slower-than-average print speed.

Even the Brother beat our HP by a full page per minute in photos, averaging about 1.3 ppm, while the HP trudged in at a meager .66 ppm.

Thankfully, there's more to be said for the HP's photo quality than its print speed. The text documents we tested on the C8180 came out very clear with bright, outstanding colors and dark black lines.

The color spread came out even with zero fuzziness or jagged edges, even at smaller points. The printer also produced very pleasing 4x6-inch photos with accurate color reproduction in skin tone and an even hue across the page.

Some of the lighter colors appear undersaturated, even on HP's own Premium Glossy Photo Paper, but overall these prints will satisfy some of the most nitpicky photo enthusiasts.

Like many of the printers in HP's Photosmart series, the C8180 produces better quality color scans than grayscales. We noticed a significant amount of compression in the grayscale scans with serious gradation issues at the dark end of the spectrum.

This problem is almost nonexistent when scanning color prints, where we were actually impressed with the level of evident detail and representation.

Printer Support

HP includes its standard one-year warranty with the Photosmart C8180, which includes 24 hour toll-free technical support and the option to upgrade to an additional two years of HP Accidental Damage Protection as well as access to its unique Pick Up and Return program.

HP's Web site also has easy-to-use features including online classes, FAQs, driver downloads, and troubleshooting tips.

source:cnn.com

The Choice Of Printer Repair

Nothing is worse then going to print out an important document and finding that your printer has ceased to function. We all know the drill; we’re getting error messages left and right; over and over again we open up the machine and unleash the many hidden compartments looking for a jammed piece of a paper or anything that will clue us in to the problem. And when we’re at our wits end we know that it’s time to make the call for printer repair.

Printer repair is a difficult choice to weigh, simply because the affordable prices of printers makes the purchase of a new one – over the repair of an old one – sometimes easier and less expensive. Deciding on printer repair depends largely on the component that has stopped functioning. If you’re dealing with a paper jam you just can’t seem to solve, then, chances are, a printer repair professional can eradicate the problem very quickly and at very little cost.

If you’ve had ongoing problems with your printer and the repair bills have continued to mount, then it may be wise to skip the printer repair going forward and purchase a newer printer with a warranty. A printer repair warranty would essentially alleviate the worry over a printer breakdown, as parts and, in many a case, labor is covered under the warranty contract.

If you have to send your printer out for printer repair then turn to the manufacturer first and foremost. A printer manufacturer has a vested interest in upholding the reputation of its products. You will often find printer repair professionals who offer a superior level of service; and you can rest assured that the replacement parts you are receiving – if necessary – are in line with the manufacturer’s standards.

Some large office equipment supply stores also offer printer repair but be sure that you’re dealing with a reputable organization that will give you the same quality parts that you purchased initially. There are also private companies that offer printer repair; in some cases they will come to your office and work on the printer there. Weigh price considerations when determining the best printer repair as well; some of these smaller companies offer more competitive rates than the big guys, although you want to ensure that you’re getting the same level of quality work.

When it comes to printer repair, you must first determine the wisdom of repair versus the purchase of a new machine. If printer repair is the way to go, then be sure you are comparing apples with apples when considering several different companies.

source:ezinearticles.com

HP Printer and Printers Shared on XP Workgroup - An Insight

Printer and Printers Accessories are required in almost every place. Running off copies of documents also creates a forgotten security risk, according to ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency.
A survey of 350 European business by ENISA discovered scant awareness of the costs and risks of uncontrolled printing.

Printers churn out a multitude of sensitive business documents ranging from invoices to employee and customer data, for example. Sensitive documents are often carelessly discarded next to printer or not even picked up. Just over half (53 per cent) of organisations surveyed by ENISA use authentication (technologies such as smart cards, biometric identification, or PIN codes) for printing.

Photocopier and printers have evolved from simple, single-function grey boxes to multifunctional, networked document processing hubs. Modern printing devices keep digital copies of scanned or printed documents. ENISA describes printing as the "forgotten link" in the security chain.

Printers are becoming more and more like other computing devices on a network. As the spread of the Code Red worm demonstrated, modern networked printers can be affected by malware. Networked printers can become a conduit for hacker attacks.

Andrea Pirotti, executive director of ENISA, commented: "Business in Europe must realise that printing and copying is not as safe as when Gutenberg started printing 540 years ago. Crucial company assets and confidential data is at stake as even printers can get hijacked."

ENISA's report, Secure Printing (pdf), details a set of advice on the secure printing and copying of confidential data. Among the report's key recommendations is that organisations develop a policy on who can print or copy documents, which should be classified depending on their level of sensitivity. The agency also advocates wider use of authentication in printing and the location of printers in secure areas.

If you are facing any kind of problem with you printer then go for Printer Help

source:channelregister.co.uk

New Samsung printer desiged to run heads

Samsung Electronics, a market leader in IT equipment and consumer electronics, announces the launch of the world's slimmest monochrome laser printer, the ML-1630, and multifunctional printer, the SCX-4500. With a grand-piano black high-gloss finish, these compact printers radiate a sense of luxury which emphasises personal style and sophistication. These new additions to Samsung's print range represent a new type of product for the global printer market and the introduction of a design-focused printer category.

Aimed at savvy users who value style and design as much as functionality, the compact size and sleek design of the Samsung ML-1630 and SCX-4500 reflect a sophisticated form of minimalism. Both printers deliver high quality functions, and are the perfect office accessories for just about any environment. Additionally, by reducing unnecessary buttons and replacing them with soft-touch sensors, and blue LED lighting, the ML-1630 and SCX-4500 enable users to access menus more conveniently and effortlessly.

The ML-1630 is the world's slimmest mono-laser printer at only 11cm thick, which is two thirds the size of any competing product's minimal size. This has been achieved by reducing the printer to its most fundamental features and clever engineering. With these printers Samsung has accomplished the fusion of a simple and sleek exterior and a high technology core.

"Samsung wanted to create not only a functional printer, but one with a striking design that would lead the printer industry," said Peter McParland, IT Country Manager Samsung Ireland. "In a world where consumers are looking for more than just product functionality, we have taken its printers to an entirely new level of artistic refinement."The ML-1630 F is available at a price of €249 nationwide.

source:techcentral.ie

Better network printing

That "paperless office" idea was nice, but it may be time to give it up. Quit wishing and hoping you will no longer buy paper by the case load. Quit dreaming of the day when an easy-to-use and inexpensive electronic document management system falls into your lap. People love to print on paper, so it's time to get the company printing system organized. It's even more critical when the company uses some type of non-Windows host. Those add a new level of printing complication.

I've seen companies take long journeys toward printing nirvana, only to find the way full of detours. First, everyone gets a printer, because ink jets are so darn cheap. Then they realize they're still buying paper as well as liquid ink that is costlier than the finest French parfum (even more expensive when the French spelling for "perfume" is on the bottle).

Second, people jump into networked printers, buying new printers with network connections and adding external print servers. Better, but they still have a variety of printer types and models, meaning client computers using them must have the right drivers. Cost of printing supplies drops as laser cartridges replace ink cartridges, but the cost of support rises, and it zooms again when larger host systems need printers. Then someone suggests jumping into the world of Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS). Sounds good, especially the All-Points Addressable (APA) printers, until management gets the price quote. Back to Square One.

Odd that an office service as critical as printing doesn't have many good answers. That adds up to opportunity, according to the folks at Ingenica, a company that made its mark in printing support in the Citrix and Windows Terminal Services environment.

Ingenica recently revamped its popular UniPrint printer system to work with general Windows servers and standard Windows clients, along with all types of host systems that need printer support.

Ingenica's new UniPrint Host Edition is a centralized, managed print system that cleverly jujitsus the problems with printer incompatibility, odd print streams and the driver dance on client machines by throwing them all over for the Portable Document Format (PDF). All print output from any system gets converted into PDF, just like it was heading for an HP LaserJet 4. Once the print output gets converted, technical life gets easier. Every decent printer in the world handles PDF files without a hiccup, remote printer redirection becomes a snap, and print output can stay as files on hard disks rather than smearing ink on paper.

All host output routed through UniPrint ceases to be AS/400 or Unix or iSeries or whatever print output and becomes a print job that works on just about any Windows-supported printer. Still have ink-jet printers on every desk, but can't convince your 5250 terminal emulation program to upgrade the driver and support those ink jets? UniPrint makes it happen.

AS/400 systems and their brethren often live in back offices, warehouses and manufacturing sites. But reports must be printed through Windows clients to Windows printers back in another office. Print streams, designed for locally attached printers, look pretty bloated compared with PDF print jobs. UniPrint says a one-page document may be 1MB of normal print-control language stream, but only about 100KB as a PDF file. In other words, data links for remote print support between offices suddenly see one tenth the amount of traffic for the same amount of printing. That's like getting a new "turbo" data link for free if you do lots of remote printing.
Pricing will seem high for those companies that have never priced "grown-up" printing support: $3,999 for one Windows server for up to 60,000 printed pages per year. Those companies used to fighting ornery print streams and a lack of printer drivers for AS/400 systems will realize the price becomes an investment in better printing. And if the company has AS/400s or the like, "cheap" as a product description disappears.

It seems odd to charge for pages printed, because computer people in small and midsize companies don't see that pricing model often. Yet those same companies pay for copiers on a sliding scale based on copy volume, so it won't be a total surprise.

UniPrint works through resellers only, and it has over 150 in North America. Many Citrix resellers also sell UniPrint because the company cleans up Citrix printing problems as well.
One server installation can usually handle up to 25 normal print-happy users, and those users can be spread between offices. And no one will blow the whistle on companies attempting to use the searchable PDF output provided by UniPrint to dream, once again, of a paperless office. And we won't laugh at them, either, for chasing that dream yet again.

If you are facing any kind of problem with your computer then go for Computer Repair

source:computerworld.com

HP Printer and Printers Shared on XP Workgroup - An Insight

Printer and Printers Accessories are required in almost every place. The large external ink reservoirs continually feed the cartridges with ink through silicon feed tubes.

All our Continuous Ink Systems are 100% guaranteed and come with full ink tanks. CISS are a money saving alternative for customers who do a large amount of printing. The printer cartridges remain in place permanently in your printer and all you have to do is simply top up the CISS external ink reservoirs. Don't leave those digital camera photographs sitting on your computer - get printing and save money!!!

Our Continuous Ink Supply Systems save up to *90%* printing cost for inkjet printers *(**Epson*, **Canon* **HP*,**Brother*, * printers)*. These systems use no-sponge printer cartridges with auto reset chips; the CISS ink tanks can feed the cartridges with ink continually, so you do not need to purchase expensive cartridges any more. And you can use our refill ink, dye ink, pigment ink or sublimation ink.

All our Continuous Ink Supply Systems are of the highest quality, with the highest quality chips on the market today. The main advantages of continuous ink supply systems are that the cartridge is always full, delivering even colour every time that remainsconsistent regardless of the size of the print run. Large runs of photographs or other jobs can be spooled without worry of running out of ink. The external bottles are clear, making it a snap to refill any colours that may be running low, while bottles hold significantly more ink than cartridges, minimizing maintenance.

Continuous ink supply systems save the user substantial money in replacement cartridges, which on top of cost, are discarded while still holding ink. Bottled ink is not only more economical but all ink is eventually used. Both these printers produce high quality of printing. Inkjet printers use magnetized plated which directs ink onto sheets of paper in desired style. Normally using two cartridges, one for color and the other for black and white, the printout quality matches with laser printer. This is less costly and portable; the only disadvantage being it is much slower in comparison to laser printer.

Laser printer operates by sending a laser beam producing an image on the drum. Also known as page printers, the laser printers are much faster as the entire page is printed here in one going. Though expensive, these types of printers produce high quality printing at high speed with unlimited variety of fonts.

It is important to check the resolution of the printer. Normally higher the resolution, the better is the print quality.

Compatibility of the printer

Selection for the printer should also consider the type of operating system the printer can work with. There are printers which can work with multi-systems like Windows, Linux, Mackintosh, etc.

Scanning

By scanning, graphics and text can be directly transferred to and stored in a computer and printed as per your need. Normal multifunctional computers will have a 600 dpi resolution. In case of a photo printer the resolution may be higher. The color depth capacity of a scanner is important factor to be considered also. The greater the bit depth, the greater is the resolution and more colors can be represented.

Scanners normally come as flatbed or sheet-fed. Flatbed scanners are more versatile as they can scan a range of documents irrespective of their thickness whereas in a sheet-fed scanner the documents are scanned one sheet at a time and the documents need to be detached from the magazine or book for scanning. Scanners are normally sold with a twain driver which can be easily installed in any computer and can work seamlessly with other applications.

Copier

In comparison to analog machines, digital copiers have much larger zoom range for reducing as well as enlarging. The speed and resolution of the copier is generally the same as that of the printer.

Faxing

The easy way to transmit documents over phone line is faxing. The majority of these machines transmit between 14.4 to 33.6 kbps speeds. This means 6 to 10 seconds and 3 seconds respectively to transmit data per page. Normally 512 kilobytes of memory in a fax machine can hold about 20 to 25 pages of incoming and outgoing pages without relying on paper. The speed dial indicates how many fax numbers can be stored in the memory of the machine.

Optional items such as automatic paper feeder, extra paper trays and enhanced photo printing capability printers are available also. In case of automatic paper feeder, you don`t have to wait and feed manually for copying and scanning more than one sheet. Optional paper trays can add up 500 pages to the total capacity. Enhanced photo printing capability printers have high resolution capability, four to six cartridges and also provide a direct connection for downloading photo from your camera. Also it allows you to view the picture before printing.

source: amazine articles

Printers - Choosing the Printer That Fits Your Needs

Printers have become a daily essential for anyone who has a computer – after all, we all need to produce hard copies of our electronic data. But the cost of running a printer has not come down to the same extent. Printer ink amounts to be the most expensive of all printer supplies. But it is possible to save money on your printer ink if you follow these suggestions.

There are many ways of replacing printer ink. You can buy brand new printer cartridges from the printer manufacturer; buy remanufactured OEM cartridges, compatible cartridges or printer ink refill kits. Of all the options available compatible cartridges and refill kits are the least expensive. These offer good value for money and the print is of good quality as long as printing is restricted to black text. Brand new cartridges are the best if you want to printouts of pictures and graphics; but these are also the most expensive.

Buying printer cartridges online will save you a lot of money. There are several online dealers of printer ink and cartridges. These online dealers offer discounts on purchases. Buying online gives you the option of doing your research on the various suppliers and choosing the best discount price. These suppliers will deliver printer cartridges free of cost right at your doorstep, saving you money on traveling and shipping.

If you use your printer a lot, then it is advisable to think ahead of time. Having an extra printer cartridge at home will save you money. If your printer suddenly runs out of ink, you don't have to go to the retail printer store and buy printer ink at a considerably higher price. Online printer ink dealers offer cartridges and ink at a much lower price than the retail store and there is no harm in having an extra cartridge at home.

If you face any kind of problem with your printer the go for Printer Support.

source:enzinearticles

Printer Toner 101 - A Guide To Buying Printer Toners

A printer toner is a powder used to refill the ink of a laser printer. It consists of positively and negatively charged particles, which serves to control the color and intensity of the marks made on the paper. It produces longer-lasting prints on your paper compared to cartridges and even printer ribbons. The toner comes in both black and colored.

Kinds of printer toners

Before, printer toners are very expensive, resulting in people coming up with alternatives to prolong their ink life. However, today, several companies are selling alternative printer toners for your laser printer.

Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) printer toner cartridge

OEM printer toners are original toners produced by the makers of the printer. They work only for the specific brand or model it comes with. They are also produced by the manufacturer of the printer. OEM toners produce high quality printing jobs but are more expensive than other toners.

Remanufactured printer toner cartridge

Remanufactured printer toners are refilled original cartridges that have almost the same standards as OEM toners. Remanufactured toners are cheaper than OEM toners.

Compatible printer toner cartridge

Compatible printer toners are the cheapest types of toners. They are made from used parts of OEM cartridges and are designed to be compatible with specific printer brands. They are low quality and should definitely be tested to ensure good performance.

Buying tips

Before buying a printer toner, make sure to check for your printer's compatibility. Also, it is highly recommended that the toner be tested for quality and performance before purchase. Finally, if you are aiming for high quality prints, use OEM toners.

Consumer Information / Help

If you get any kind of problem with you printer then go for Printer Repair.

source: enzine articles

All About Multifunctional Printer, Scanner And Copier

Multifunctional Printers are the best for small offices and or the home. It is a real miracle - one unit that prints, copies and scans. It saves on space and money. One point has to be kept in mind that it does all these functions but not all of them well. If the requirement is for high grade scanning then this three-in-one model might prove to be inadequate. It is all right for moderate use and not for intensive application.

As regards the speed the printer might prove to be too slow for professional use. This is especially so in the case of colour printers. While using a multifunction printer and trying to get some fast assignment completed then the rate of 22 pages per minute as against the crawl of 12 pages per minute does matter.

Multifunction Printers that have more memory turn out to be more costly. This inadequacy becomes apparent when one tries to do three things together - scanning, printing and copying. If the requirement is heavy then it is best to opt for a multifunction printer that has 16 MB - to say the least.

The quality of the image depends on dpi or dots per inch. The standard (600x600) will suffice for printing but is unsuitable as regards quality of photo. Scanner resolutions must be noticed, as these are usually low in multifunction models. There is a wide gap as regards quality between interpolated and optimal resolution.

Multifunction printers that have to be fed with one page at a time can become a real headache and eat up the whole day. It is best to buy a multifunction printer that is fitted with a document feeder system that is automatic and at each go holds 15 sheets at the minimum.

It is advisable not to just pick a multipurpose printer off the store shelf, have it packed, pay and walk off with it. Always play around with it in the store giving a good amount of time and attention. Carefully scrutinize the specifications and see how the printer actually behaves when put to the test. Each operation should be tested separately. After all it must meet the specific requirements of the buyer - no matter how small it is.

Most of the multifunction printers are manufactured with the prime function of photographic output. But being three-in-one the other utilities are kept in mind.

The scanner function is of great importance. There are two main types technologies involved in manufacture of scanners. CCD or charge-coupled-device performs better as regards quality of image especially when dealing with books. On the other hand the other technology of CIS or contact-image-sensor makes the machine more durable. Other points to consider are sheet-fed versus flat-bed machines.

The flat-bed ones allow scanning of thicker objects. Try to include in the purchase package an OCR or optical-character-recognition. It converts the pages that are scanned into text documents that can be edited. This will save a lot of time - running into hours - if the original soft copy is misplaced. For those who want to store old photographs purchase with this multipurpose printer attachments that will enable scanning of slides and films.

The speed of making copies can never be up to the mark unless the unit has these gizmos. Always bear in mind that documents have to be lifted and replaced innumerable times. Apart from speed other areas of importance are user friendliness and storage of memory. But with all the attachments included it will be child`s play to manage multiple copies; only few buttons will have to be pressed.

Acquaint Yourself With Computer Printers

A computer printer is a device used for printing text or images on hard copy stored in electronic form, generally on physical print media like paper. Printers are designed to support both local and network connected users simultaneously.

Nowadays, modern printers can directly interface to electronic devices like digital cameras. Some printers that come with non printing features are commonly known as Multi-Functional Printers (MFP) or Multi-Function Devices (MFD). It integrates various functions of multiple devices into one. Such types of printers are extremely useful for small businesses and home offices.

As opposed to a traditional printer, a multi-functional printer is a combination of devices like Printer, Scanner, Photocopier, and Fax Machine. Likewise, there are numerous other types of printers widely available in the market. Let’s take a look at them:

Laser Printer: A laser printer works in a similar fashion as a photocopier does. It has a roller which is charged with electricity. A laser beam is passed to remove the charge from portions of the roller. The parts hit by the laser are powdered by the toner which is then transferred from the roller to the paper. Finally, the ink is baked into the paper with the help of a heater incorporated in the printer. People generally prefer laser printer because of its ability to give high quality output and high speed.

Dot Matrix: It has a print head that moves across the page. A dot matrix printer produces characters using a cluster of pins which press an inked ribbon to the paper, thereby creating a dot. Each character is made in the same way. Dot Matrix printers are relatively cheaper and durable. These qualities still attract businesses which use them as invoice printers.

Ink Jet and Bubble Jet: It works in a manner similar to a Dot Matrix Printer. However, its print head sprays liquid ink onto the page instead of pressing a dry ink against the page. Ink jet and bubble jet printers are better known as predecessors of laser printers. They produce better image quality and run faster.

From inkjets to monochrome and color lasers, different printers are designed to accomplish different tasks. Companies like DELL, CANON, LEXMARK, BROTHER, EPSON, and HP HEWLETT PACKARD are most preferred when it comes to buying a printer. Nowadays, Computer Printer Support is widely available on the Internet which saves you from taking it to any expensive technician for troubleshooting.

HP Edgeline Technology

In an ongoing effort to provide high-performance printing capabilities for business, HP has pioneered the development of HP Edgeline Technology, the first-of-its-kind, ink-based printing engine designed to meet the demands of high-volume workloads. HP Edgeline Technology opens the door to innovative printing solutions for businesses with high-volume printing requirements, including retailers, industrial printers and office environments. Fast printing speeds, outstanding print quality and reliability, and a low cost of operation are some of the primary benefits of HP Edgeline Technology.

Simple question, big idea

HP engineers began developing HP Edgeline Technology by asking, "How can we make printing better?" Leveraging an unrivaled history in printing and imaging and some of the best engineering and design talent on the planet, HP developed a printing solution that would deliver excellent performance, reliability and cost-efficiency to meet the printing needs of businesses everywhere.

The HP Edgeline Technology advantage

HP Edgeline Technology is an ink-based printing engine designed with printheads that span the width of a page. In other words, with HP Edgeline Technology, the paper moves, not the printhead. It's that simple.

For increased printing speeds, HP Edgeline Technology printers use large, stationary printheads-arranged in a line-to dispense ink across the entire width of the page as the paper passes beneath them. The result is more accurate ink-drop placement and breathtaking print speeds for crisp, print-shop quality output-fast. Plus, the sophisticated printhead design delivers outstanding reliability, allowing for more printing up-time, less maintenance and a lower total cost of operation over time. To complement the new printhead design and increased speeds, HP has specially designed Vivera inks for each current printing system with HP Edgeline Technology to deliver leading print quality.

Next-generation printing

HP Edgeline Technology is already in use in HP Photosmart Express Station retail photo kiosks that deliver lightning-fast prints of digital photos in the U.S. HP Photosmart Express Stations produce 4 x 6-inch photos fast-20 prints in about two minutes-at a price per photo that rivals the traditional photo lab. The photo print quality is outstanding. The HP Photosmart Express Station uses HP Vivera professional inks and a patented 6-ink system that prints smudge- and fade-resistant, brilliant photos that last for generations. HP Edgeline Technology also powers the recently introduced HP Photosmart pm1000 Microlab printer, which delivers photo lab-quality prints, fast-as fast as five seconds per print-from a compact, high-throughput mechanism that plugs into a retailer's existing photofinishing system. Colour image quality without compromising on speed or cost: it's HP Edgeline Technology and HP Vivera inks that make it possible.

HP isn't stopping there. You'll start seeing HP Edgeline Technology in many more high-performance HP products-including industrial printers and light production-in the future. In Spring 2007, this patented technology will redefine business printing with the combined benefits of ink and laser in a single device: fast printing speeds, excellent print quality for text and graphics, a low cost per page and HP world-class reliability. Hewlett Packard is the premier worldwide technology solutions provider to businesses, consumers and institutions.

Hewlett-Packard was one of the first companies to produce a laser printer for PCs and most software products include drivers for HP printers. The drivers control the printers through a language called PCL (printer control language). Other makers of laser printers design their printers so that they, too, understand PCL, making them able to emulate HP printers. In this way, their printers are HP-compatible and are thus automatically supported by many software products.

No non-HP printer, however, is 100 percent HP-compatible. HP is the provider of all types of printers such as color laser printers, laser Printers, inkjet printers, multifunction printers, plotters, Mac Printers, refurbished printers, portable printers, fax machines and copiers. HP also provides printers through which you can create photos. They are basic inkjet printers, photo printers, all-in-ones printer, portable photo printers and professional-quality printers.

HP also provides repair services for laser printer, printer cartridges, refurbished printers and other parts. Laser Printer Repair 911 provides corporations, small businesses and individuals with certified on site, in home and carry in Printer Repair Services and upgraded printer parts.

All in One Printers

More than 3m Brits now officially work from home, and millions more are catching up with office tasks at home in the evenings or at the weekends. The idea of doing your job without leaving your house (or even your pyjamas) might be tempting, but to get really productive without getting dressed you’ll need to partner your computer with a printer, a photocopier and maybe even a scanner.

An easy way to do this without turning your spare bedroom into a branch office is with an all-in-one (AIO) printer. This multifunctional desktop device can print business letters and colour pictures, photocopy paperwork and scan all kinds of documents for digital storage.

What’s more, it’s compact, has just one mains plug and in most cases connects to your PC with a single USB cable. Annoyingly, you’ll need to buy the cable (costing from £3) separately for every printer on test here, except for the Lexmark X4550, which transmits data wirelessly over your wi-fi network, so you can really clear up your desk by hiding it away in a cupboard. The Brother can also work wirelessly if plugged into a wi-fi router.

All the printers on test except the Lexmark X2550 have memory-card slots and a PictBridge port for printing photos directly from your digital camera. A few AIOs (such as the Brother) can also work as a fax machine, but these tend to be pricier, and faxing isn’t popular nowadays.
At the heart of every AIO is an inkjet printer, a technological marvel that uses thousands of tiny nozzles to deliver microscopic amounts of ink with incredible precision, hundreds of times a second. The number of coloured inks is important; all the printers in our test used four, but more sophisticated photo printers can use up to eight inks for richer, more realistic colours. The Lexmarks can add two extra inks but the Canon and HP produced decent photos with their standard four.

You’ll end up spending much more on ink over the lifetime of a printer than you ever did on buying it. Except where noted, these printers use about 5p worth of ink to print or photocopy a typical page comprising black text and colour images. But if you print mostly ink-hungry photos, be prepared for rocketing running costs.

Shop around for replacement inks, as online stores often charge far less than high street shops do. Think carefully before using cartridges that aren’t from the printer’s maker, or ink-refill packs; these do save you money, but at the risk of patchy ink coverage and smeary or fading prints.

When it comes to scanning, all the AIOs here were fine for making digital back-ups of letters and passports. But if you want to digitise photos to enlarge later, you’ll ideally need a resolution of 2,400 x 4,800dpi, which only the Canon and HP could offer. While all the AIOs tested could produce readable (if not necessarily beautiful) photocopies of documents, none is suitable for bulk copying or making pristine reproductions of photos. Nevertheless, all-in-ones are a very handy home-office addition for weekend workers.

A Small Introduction to Printers

A computer printer, or more commonly a printer, produces a hard copy (permanent human-readable text and/or graphics) of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper or transparencies. Many printers are primarily used as local computer peripherals, and are attached by a printer cable to a computer which serves as a document source. Some printers, commonly known as network printers, have built-in network interfaces (typically wireless or Ethernet), and can serve as a hardcopy device for any user on the network. Individual printers are often designed to support both local and network connected users at the same time.

In addition, many modern printers can directly interface to electronic media such as memory sticks or memory cards, or to image capture devices such as digital cameras, scanners; some printers are combined with a scanners and/or fax machines in a single unit. Printers that include non-printing features are sometimes called Multi-Function Printers (MFP) or Multi-Function Devices (MFD).

A printer which is combined with a scanner can function as a photocopier if so designed. Most MFPs include printing, scanning, and copying among their features.

Printers are designed for low-volume, short-turnaround print jobs; requiring virtually no setup time to achieve a hard copy of a given document. However, printers are generally slow devices (30 pages per minute is considered fast; and many consumer printers are far slower than that), and the cost-per-page is relatively high.

In contrast, the printing press (which serves much the same function), is designed and optimized for high-volume print jobs such as newspaper print runs--printing presses are capable of hundreds of pages per minute or more, and have an incremental cost-per-page which is a fraction of that of printers.

The printing press remains the machine of choice for high-volume, professional publishing. However, as printers have improved in quality and performance, many jobs which used to be done by professional print shops are now done by users on local printers; see desktop publishing.

The world's first computer printer was a 19th century mechanically driven apparatus invented by Charles Babbage for his Difference Engine.

<media:rating>nonadult</media:rating>
