It is easy for you to get lost and eventually buy something you do not need. Recently we have seen a new series of inexpensive laptop computers into the market called "netbooks" that almost got into the mantle and light weight such as your phone. So how would you decide to buy a laptop computer?

Let's start with $, decide how much you spend on your new laptop computer. New netbook being sold for less than $ 250 or laptop used to come in a range of $ 300 to $ 5000, so all that up to you to decide depending on your needs and your needs.

Once you have fixed your budget, take the time to go through the requirements of the hardware and operating system you'll need. When determining your hardware needs, you need to know what you need from the following hardware components: processor type, processor speed, Memory, Hard Disk and Display. As far as concerns the operating system these days you'll get Windows Vista or XP, Microsoft has also come with Windows 7 is not out in the market but will soon be available.

If you are a student or a house wife and not have to take your computer wherever you go, you might want to purchase desktop computers, laptop computers rather than on the other hand, if you are traveler, working executives, business where you need to bring your computer, the computer laptop obvious choice.

A wise and prudent planning can make your computer buying experience very enjoyable and you will enjoy using your computer more because when you will buy what you need. A cheap laptop can be found in various places of online and offline stores computer stores. In my view an online store that gives you a wider choice and options to choose from. You can find super deals or cheap laptop deals and coupons on the aggregation of Web sites with just visiting these sites or their weekly subscription deal where they sign deals and coupons sent every week. When you do get a good deal and coupon websites, do not forget to bookmark it because it is easy to forget about the sites you visit and where you see the low-cost laptops.

I am sure that by applying these simple techniques you can find a cheap laptop computer or a laptop computer is a dream of your choice suits your needs and of course $ budget. If so there are some things you should be aware. Even if you have just spent a little time on the web, you may have noticed the amount of information solely for free, great services and opportunities that the web has to offer.

But if you are a beginner I should warn you just how this cyber cheating can be! For every opportunity there is the whole burden of the original fraud and waiting for you no matter where you find the things that set you run the risk of running against pests Internet; spyware, adware and the worst of many viruses!

Spyware, viruses, and both can cause you all sorts of problems, but like a fraud if you know what to look out for and how to protect yourself from them, you can surf safely relatively clean. If you find yourself the right spyware, adware and virus protection software and keep up to date on a regular basis, and then do a little research on either the web content site dedicated to spyware, viruses, and the same; you can both protect your computer that is not affected by these Internet pests and as a user to avoid contact with them in the first place, by knowing what to avoid when you see it.

This has worked for me now for some time. Several years ago I had a few run-ins with spyware and viruses that cause me to finally re-install my windows version. But since I have kept my computer spyware and virus software up to date and lean what to avoid when on the web, I have no real problems.

Even when you feel you know enough about spyware and viruses, it still does not hurt to keep a close eye on the web info about spyware and viruses as a way of trying to make you fall victim to them will change from time to time in order to catch more people and you do not want to get caught out.

Overall I think the internet is a great discovery and the possibilities are infinite, but we must respect it and guard us all the time. Nothing in this world is perfect and all good, but if we can stick to the good and avoid evil, the least we will be closer to that ideal.

By: Jay Evans

Adware Installation Stealth Tactics

Or the mention of the software package buried deep in the click-wrap license agreement.

How to protect yourself: It's a clich repeated endlessly, but it's true: only install software from developers you trust. That does not mean you have never tried any software from a new company. Just familiarize yourself with the developer's reputation before opening wide your hard drive. Look for a developer in search engines. If a dozen anti-spyware ads listed alongside search results, it was not a good sign.

How to resist: If you have downloaded the freebie expensive, it may be too late to simply uninstall it. The bundled adware will likely remain in your computer after the software that came with it has been sent to the recycling bin. Instead, you should use anti-spyware programs, and more than two to make sure.

Tactics 2. Adware Drive-by

How it works: adware may hide in the website code and download itself automatically to the site visitor's hard drive. This is often referred to as "drive-by" installation.

How to protect yourself: drive-by installation of software tend to occur in commercial sites, it's not personal homepage, blog, or Web sites established business. If you can avoid surfing in such rough water, you will be much safer from adware attacks.

How to resist: If you suspect that the site has been downloaded software to your computer, close immediately and run anti-spyware and antivirus software. You may also want to clear your browser cache and also any program downloads folders and temporary internet folders, just in case a new type of adware is adware that is not in the software anti-spyware database yet.

Tactics 3: The Old-Fashioned Way: Email

How it works: You know the drill: just as with viruses, adware may come as email attachments. Secretly is that just does not open the attachment may not be enough to protect you. Attachments may not display the attachment icon and set to auto-install as soon as the message is opened.

How to protect yourself: make sure your email software does not open the file attachment automatically. With most of the new email software applications the option to block automatic downloads of attached files is set as the default. But to be truly secure, you must set the device anti-spyware software automatically monitor all email.

How to fight: deleting email without opening offensive or attachment (assuming that is not happening already). Run a full scan your hard drive using the anti-spyware and antivirus software.

By: John Pawlett

Adware - Invisible Ploys Exposed - By: Isaiah Henry There are some things that we don? T saw online and one of them is the way parasiteware operate. This is not considered harmful but the problem is they do not see how trying to profit from the webmaster who really need the attention and revenue. Some people are too desperate and it shows from this.

As a rule, when we open a browser, they also include a default start page, which most often is the Microsoft site, or the page we have chosen to start with. People often change the initial page to a Google or Yahoo! because usually the first thing they do when they open a browser to check their email or do a search.

But there will be times where the hijackers pages will find an opportunity to make some changes. Page hijackers usually will take you to an unknown site without your knowledge. Once this happens, chances are you will think that it is something other computer users may be bookmarked by mistake. The first is to try to return to your normal start page. If you find that you are taken back to the odd page then chances are you have already hijacked page.

We are quite aware that every time we connect to the Internet and visit sites of different tracking link and the cookie is stored temporarily in our computer. But there are many people who are not technical enough to know where to find these nasties and parasiteware developers take advantage of that fact.

Although parasiteware not considered dangerous, you should try to remove them. There is no reason to keep the link tracking and cookies on your computer. All of these parasites attacking your privacy and confidential data can send you to places you didn? T want it sent. Moreover, is it fair that other people make money by using this way?

The next time you run a spyware removal tool; don? T be surprised to see parasiteware detected. Sure, most computers today have a lot of them in hand. There was no threat, but they are certainly up to no good.

Almost no one in the world, who want to penetrate their computer and this is the reason why people take steps to defend their PCs against the hijackers. PC piracy is not good and clear sound is a crime. The worst thing you can experience is when someone has taken over your computer. If you find that this happens, you have to rush quickly to find solutions and heal your computer.

These parasites which monitor you make a profit for the company means. Do you think you have to tolerate this? Or the fact that often parasiteware use your computer without your consent and perform a variety of crimes? It is true that you can? T avoid parasiteware today. In addition, because parasiteware not pose such a big threat to you, you may be wondering whether you should really worry so much about it. This is far more evil than Goldtooth, and far more difficult than the 007's projectile pen.

What is spyware? Experts define it as software that secretly installs itself through and into your system to replace some of the same user control.

What is it spyware, a more simple? This is a program that you never know already installed on your PC, which made him do things that you never intended to do.

What Is Spyware And Why Should People Be Interested?

Most spyware programs more annoying than destructive. Constant pop-ups that interfere with your browsing pleasure or interfere with your work, change the URL in your browser's home, occasionally diverting into a specific site, spam messages from sources outside you sure you never contacted before: this is only a few inconveniences that spyware victims should survive.

But the main reason why many people want the answer to the question what spyware is because some of these destructive programs. They can cause your system to crash, or worse yet, they can send personal and financial details; as you type and save to your PC to the same remote user can use for their evil purposes of your costs!

Is Spyware And What Are The Signs That A PC Is Infected By One Or More Of These malwares?

Determining what the spyware, of course, is the more technical part of the solution. Determine whether your system is infected with software spies often become dirty part of the job.

Be careful if your PC is suffering from one or all of the following symptoms:

* Horrible slowdown even if only a few programs running;
* Your homepage has been set has changed, or if it continues to change even if you manually restore the original URL;
* You receive a lot of emails that have bounced back, meaning your PC to send email without your knowledge;
* Some programs sudden burst (this can be an automatic precaution because the program has detected a keylogger);
* Noisy hard drives, more than usual;
* Suddenly dump the CD tray;
* Any other similar event

One or two of these symptoms can mean anything, or they can show that you need to learn how to block spyware since it has started to occupy your system.

In this case, you should stop asking the question: What is spyware? and shifted to the question, what the best form of spyware removal?

What is Spyware Detection And Removal? How Can They Be Implemented?

Thankfully, with a balloon that is always a problem and spyware infections which is always growing form of malware threats that brought hundreds of anti-spyware programs have been found and are being offered on the internet. Some anti-spyware programs are free, such as Search & Destroy, while others are commercially distributed.

Spyware detection and removal is a two-stage process used by most anti-spyware programs. Most of them have a comprehensive scan machines that swept the entire system and report any cases of spyware residence. After that, the detection phase shifts to the removal / healing phase, in which digital anomalies pointed either deleted or quarantined.

By: Mehmet Onatli

How to Repair a Slow Computer - 3 Tips to Make Your PC Run Faster!

This happens to the majority of users, but fortunately there are a few things you can do that can help you solve the problem:

Get rid of useless programs: the average user has installed many programs that do nothing more than taking up valuable memory. You need to locate any program that you have no use for anymore and delete it. This will increase you PC's speed significantly.

Remove all spyware and adware: most computers that are connected to the internet have spyware and adware on them. Every time you surf the net a few websites will drop some adware into you PC. You need to download a spyware cleaner in order to get rid of this problem, which considerably slows down your system.

Repair the registry: 90% of the time you see slow computers, registry errors are to blame. The registry is like a large repository that over time becomes bloated with useless files. After it gets corrupted, it becomes very difficult to locate any data and this causes a significant slow down in the operation of the system. In this case you will need to remove all the unnecessary entries, so as to free up some space. You must really know what you are doing, because if you remove the wrong entry your PC may crash.

A good idea would be to download an online registry cleaner tool, which will delete errors and will leave all the necessary data intact.

Of course you need to keep in mind that not all the tools are the same. Some applications can detect more errors than others and are much safer to use.

By Alex Pierce

Antispyware Spybot Is Capable Of Maintain Your Workstation With No Spyware

Yes, there are tons of information about what spyware can cause you but this obviously doen not ring a bell in many users' heads. This ignorant bliss continues till the moment your computer becomes infected. Then you hurry to get a good spyware-removal tool and you possibly regret you haven't installed an antispyware program earlier. One of the antispyware programs many users prefer is called Spybot and it is really great for finding and deleting all kinds of spyware.

Many regular Web surfers do not know enough about adware and spyware and very often learn about these pests when their computer becomes cluttered with all kinds of malware. When this happens, the only choice you have is to install a spyware removal program and never leave your computer unprotected anymore. Don't you think it is silly to fall into the same trap twice? Well, there is always the risk that the antispyware program you have chosen is not the best of the kind and that is why you should spend some time to read reviews and see which antispyware programs really work.

Spyware is a pest because it makes a profit for its creators by using you. Spyware usually does not notify you of its presence. Instead, it is almost invisible to you and stealthily collects personal information about you. From time to time it sends the gathered data to its creators, who compile it into a report and sell it to interested parties, such as advertising companies. You may not be able to see spyware but you can feel its presence. For instance, if your computer starts to behave in a strange manner, or new programs/toolbars appear all of a sudden, this should alert you about a possible spyware infection.

Spybot is a great choice because it can protect you against almost any type of spyware. The site of the product lists all the pests they detect and remove. The list is updated on a regular basis, so if you download and install the updates daily, you can have peace of mind. Spybot is available online but if you want, you can order a CD.

Some Spybot versions are not for every operating system, so be careful. Some of the versions of Spybot have a really cute feature - ?clean usage tracks?. This feature is great for shared computers because it erases completely all evidence of the sites you have visited, thus keeping your secrets.

By: Isaiah Henry

Adware, Spyware and Computer Viruses Explained

What started off as a joke between software engineers has evolved into an uncontrollable beast. In the mid 1990's computer viruses ran wild and held even big organizations like Yahoo in it's claws. The thrill and challenge for software engineers to "beat" antivirus software drove them to create some pretty nasty software.

Fortunately the law intervened and along with anti-virus software the threat posed by computer viruses was soon under control. However, today's computer threats span much further than mere viruses. The 2 big culprits are Adware and Spyware and in many ways they are more dangerous that computer viruses.

While most people use the term computer virus to loosely define all software threats, it's not entire correct. Malware is probably a more accurate definition. Maware basically comes from MALicious SoftWARE - software that was created with the main purpose of destroying, harming or stealing.

Virusses, adware and spyware can all be defined as malicious software. Their sole intention is to either get some sort of data from your computer or to attack some aspect of your computer's operating system.

Malicious threats can be classified into 3 main areas: viruses, adware and spyware. They are all different yet most people confuse them to be the same thing.

- The Common Computer Virus
Everybody is well aware of computer viruses. While most people still use the term virus loosely for every kind of malicious infection. The fact of the matter is that computer viruses aren't as big a threat anymore. Most Anti-virus software today will give you plenty of protection. There are still a lot of viruses out there - especially on email attachments and dodgy websites, but for the most part the creators of these viruses moved on to something more important - making money. This is where adware and spyware applications comes in.

- Adware
Adware started out as legitimate software installations that often came with purchased applications. The adware software was designed as a way to communicate with the users and to gather data to help improve the software or fix bugs. Unfortunately this "good intention" became twisted and adware today is just completely abusing this concept.

Without you knowing it, you probably agreed to have that adware installed on your computer. The agreement is usually hidden in some dense Terms and Conditions document that no one ever reads. Most free software these days come with the hidden agenda of Adware and by deploying advertising on your computer they can make a lot of money.

Adware has become quite sophisticated and can gather a lot of your personal information that they can use to advertise to you. Virtually all pop-ups are adware. It can be extremely annoying, slow your computer down and getting rid of them can be a real nightmare - even with adware remover software.

- Spyware
Spyware is sneaky. It's clever and operates under stealth. It can install itself on your computer without your knowledge or your consent. While Adware is mainly designed to advertise to you, Spyware wants to steal from you.

By Deon Du Plessis

Spyware Doctor - Do I Need It?

A large number of software products are available. Some of them are available as freeware and some as shareware. Shareware can be used for a specified period, usually 30 days.

One must evaluate and compare the features of different spyware elimination software products before selecting one. Some of the features of an effective elimination software product are: It should give a list of detected, to enable users to allow them to decide, about which ones they want to delete.

* Auto update ensures that the software automatically downloads the latest definition file.
* Auto scheduling means that the system is scanned for spyware at defined intervals automatically.
* The "undo" facility allows the user to remedy accidental deletion of useful files.
* The product should provide real-time protection. It should prevent installation, instead of just deleting it when it is detected.
* The software should be effective in detecting and deleting, the different types.
* The product should be easy to download, install, navigate and use.
* Product support ensures that there is someone you can call or e-mail, whenever you have a problem.
* The right spyware elimination software will ensure your privacy and keep your computer free of advertisements.

Some of the most popular spyware elimination software products are: Eliminator, Doctor, MS AntiSpyware, McAfee, Pest Patrol, Spy Sweeper, Counterspy, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy etc.

The most popular personal firewalls include McAfee Firewall, Norman Firewall, Windows Firewall, Surf Secret, Sygate Firewall, Zone Alarm, Outpost Pro, and Norton Firewall etc.

Spyware Eliminator
Spyware Eliminator is one of the most popular spyware elimination software products. It also provides you with anti-virus and anti-Spam capability and prevents malicious software from entering your PC.

It gives users specific threat recommendations and its
consumer ware facility identifies legitimate ad ware
companies and their software. The user then has the option to delete this software or to keep it. Spyware Eliminator is particularly effective in dealing with cleverly concealed, self re-generating spyware and adware.

Spywares are known by many names such as adware, trojans, malware, browser hijackers etc. The thing they all have in common is that they will transmit your personal information to companies and individuals who have an interest in knowing about your surfing habits, online purchases, credit worthiness, interests, web searchs, chats, birth date and even your credit card number. The list goes on and on, since Spywares are constructed by promotional companies who need to know as much as possible about the online consumers to target them effectively. By ewes dropping on you online, these companies hope to be more successful when sending out promotional materials.

By: John Pawlett

Spyware Reviews - The Best Freeware Spyware Blockers

These programs can be designed to steal sensitive information from your computer or to monitor your movements online. But it may come as a surprise to some people that there are freeware spyware blockers that can prevent major problems like these programs. If you know where to look, you can get an excellent level of protection without having to spend any money. Here are our spyware reviews of the best products available:

Spybot - Search and Destroy. This is the classic free antispyware download that was created in the 2000. It continues to be supported by its creator Patrick Kolla who provides regular updates. In testing, it has performed well at detecting spyware and it is easy to use. The user interface is simple and the manual that is included with the product explains everything clearly. Although the product is free, if you feel you have been helped by it there is the option of making a donation. They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Well Spybot has been imitated by many other companies, which is testament to how good the original product is.

SuperAntiSpyware - The free version of this software performs extremely well under testing. There was no problems getting it loaded up and there were no conflicts with existing spyware or antivirus products that were already on the machine. Although the product can be downloaded for free, there is a paid upgrade. I think this would be worthwhile to get access to real-time scanning.

Windows Defender - I'm usually wary of specialist products that are produced from Microsoft, but this antispyware program does actually perform well. If you are on Vista it is shipped automatically with the operating system. If you have an older system you can download the program for free from the Microsoft website.

It is common for people to have more than one anti spyware product on their computer. This will give you the best chance of capturing any rogue programs that try to take over your PC.

By: Paul Elms.

Spyware Removers - Are They Any Good?

This, of course, coincides with the steep rise in spyware infecting computers. A quick check on a top search engine for the term yields almost 4 million results, which highlights the seriousness of the problem.

With so much information available on spyware removers, the biggest problem is where to start. In this article we will explore the nature of spyware, the spyware removers available, and how to use them for best effect.

Spyware, as its name suggests, is malicious software that can infect your computer and spy on your activities, relaying the information back to the source that released it. Some spyware can record your keyboard keystrokes as you type. This becomes a serious problem if it records your online banking details, or your credit card numbers, for example.

Spyware removers are programs that work by detecting the spyware and removing it from your computer system. However, some spyware can actually attack the spyware removers, rendering them ineffective. In other cases they may appear to be removed successfully, only to be re-installed the next time you switch on or reboot your computer.

Another trick used to fool the spyware removers is to employ polymorphic stealth routines. This means that the spyware can change its tactics, never acting in the same way for too long. This in turn makes the spyware removers have to work much harder, both to detect the spyware, and to keep up to date with its behavior.

As you might suspect, there are many different spyware removers available. They range from free to quite costly and from highly effective to not very effective. Surprisingly, it's not always the costly ones that perform best. In fact, some of the free ones can outperform the well-known brand names every time.

Don't necessarily go by big brand familiarity. Seek out actual independent tests performed by those with no personal agenda and nothing to gain by the outcome. This is where you will find the real truth. And if freely available spyware removers can outperform well known big brands in properly conducted tests, then you can save a lot of money, and save yourself a lot of trouble too.

Spyware removers work by scanning your computer system in search of spyware. They will then remove anything they find. However, they do not always detect the spyware every time. You should run a scan, delete any spyware found, then reboot your computer and run the scan again.

After rebooting, the program will often find fresh threats missed the first time, which can then be eliminated. Do this several times until the program reports that the computer is clean. At this point try one or two different spyware removers. It's possible that each one will find traces of spyware that the others fail to detect.

To combat the ever-increasing threat posed by spyware you need to know the nature of spyware and spot the symptoms of possible infection early on. You also need to know which of the many spyware removers available you should use. Be guided by effectiveness in properly conducted independent tests, rather than popularity.

You also need to know how to use spyware removers for the best long-term effects. Armed with this information you should be able to tackle this growing problem with confidence and success.

By: Jason Hobbs

Spyware Remover - Choosing the Right Software

You have probably been a victim of spyware if you notice changes in your computer such as extreme slowness or a change in your browser settings that you have not made. Spyware can cause a lot of little annoyances to your computer and the best thing to do is remove it fast and prevent it from happening with a good spyware removal software.

Choosing a good spyware remover can take a bit of time as you want to choose one that is going to be easy to use and get the job done. The first place to conduct your research is by searching for software reviews online. Reviews can be helpful if they are written by actual users who have really put the software through its paces. Beware of the reviews that find nothing wrong with the software as they are probably only pushing the product to make a sale. A good review will point out its strengths as well as its weaknesses.

The criteria that you should use to determine whether or not the spyware software is of good quality are relatively simple. First off, is it user friendly? There is nothing worse than installing the software and being overwhelmed with a ton of features that will take you months to figure out. There are many good programs available that keep the average computer user in mind - keeping the software as user friendly as possible.

You will also want to consider how well the software runs in the background. A good spyware remover will hum along unnoticed in the background without slowing down your computer, allowing you to continue working while it is doing its job. Check to see if the software also provides monitoring for spyware in "real time." This is critical as there are new spyware programs invading the internet every day.

It will also help to find out if the spyware software has won any awards or has been recognized for its product. Any good spyware removal product worth its salt will readily admit to not being able to clean up the spyware on your computer in just one use. It may take several runs of the software to achieve this as well as several software updates. If a program claims they can achieve this after one run, they are more than likely making false claims. The software should also download regular updates at least every few days.

Customer service is also a huge deciding factor. If you run into an issue that is just beyond your capabilities, it is good to know that you can call customer service and have them walk you through your issue. A good customer support team will contact you within a matter of hours via email or by phone.

Besides installing your spyware software as a preventative measure, also remember to avoid downloading software that you are not sure of. If you don't need it or it isn't a legitimate product, chances are its only purpose is to embed spyware onto your computer.

By: Chris H.

Windows Spyware Removal

And, if you're like me, there is nothing more frustrating than dealing with annoying pop-ups, having your home page changed or just dealing with a painfully slow computer.

The worse thing about spyware is that it's like cockroaches. Where you fine one piece of spyware, you're almost definitely going to find more. Multiple studies have shown that a computer that has any spyware probably has several and even dozens of different programs installed. This is because of the sheer amount of spyware out there just waiting to infect an unprotected computer. On top of this, windows spyware removal is notoriously frustrating, time consuming and sometimes downright impossible. Windows spyware removal has got to be one of the most difficult tasks a computer user will ever encounter.

The only way you can guarantee your computer won't get infected with spyware is if you simply don't connect to the Internet. But then what good is having a computer? The Internet is almost a necessity in this day and age. However, you can fight back against spyware and take actions to make sure you're computer is protected.

When looking for a windows spyware removal and anti-spyware programs, there are certain features you should look for.

A program should have the following features:

-Real time blocking to warn you of possibly dangerous programs as you encounter them

-The ability to schedule scans to keep your computer clean without having to watch the scan

-An up-to-date database of current spyware programs to make sure that the software is capable of detecting the latest threats

-Automatic updates so the program you run is looking for every possible threat

Finding a windows spyware removal program with these features is crucial to keeping your computer running quickly, smoothly and without interruptions. If you spend any time on the Internet, or using file-sharing programs then it is absolutely essential that you have an anti-spyware and spyware removal program installed on your machine. Without one, your computer is guaranteed to become infected and eventually grind to a screeching halt.

By: Daniel Roy

Spyware Remover... No Adware is anti-malware software that professes to have a solution that will:

• Perform a web bug scan... A web bug scan will search your computer for web bugs, which are either a small graphic in either an email message or on a web page. What this little piece of code will do is monitor the web pages or e-mails that you are reading. THAT is pretty scary stuff indeed! Web bugs are very small, usually 1 pixel by 1 pixel and are represented as HTML or IMG tags.

• Kill adware.... these are the little cookies and bots that put ads on your computer whenever you load up a web page.

• Stop dialers.... the unauthorized use of your Internet connection via dial-up.

• Eliminate Spyware... pretty self explanatory, stop people from snooping into your online and computer activity.

The makers of No Adware state that they also offer PC immunization. By that they state they have a system that will prevent those infuriating yes/no boxes that pop up asking you for permission to install adware and/or spyware.

Here is how they do it: If you just happen to install an item that is in No Adware's list of blocked items, that spyware or adware will be prevented from being installed on your computer.

Here is a neat feature: Many slimy web site operators will try to wiggle their way into your favourites list, hoping for that ever valuable click to their site.

A Recent study shines a light on Internet Explorer... should you drop it?

A new study found that one of every 67 webpages exploits a vulnerability in Internet Explorer. One in 62 domains contained at least one scripted drive-by download attack.

The study, by a group of researchers at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, also found that Firefox was significantly more capable of blocking spyware attacks.

A small number of infectious domains are responsible for the majority of infectious links and can infect a computer whether or not a user responds "yes" to a security prompt. In 0.4% of the URLs examined, drive-by downloads were attempted and 0.2% of URLs that exploit IE browser vulnerabilities.

Comparatively, only 0.08% of URLs were able to get by Firefox security and those required user consent in order to succeed.

The study also showed high concentrations of spyware at gaming, screensaver, and celebrity sites.

Conclusion? Cease using Internet Explorer! I know you may be shocked, but Microsoft’s internet browser has more holes in it than your spaghetti strainer! One alternative is Mozilla’s Firefox, available for free download at Mozilla.org.

After installing the browser, it will automatically transfer your bookmarks/favorites and settings over to Firefox. Also, please make sure Firefox is your default browser. Using Firefox will reduce the amount of spyware and adware on your computer by 75%.

What No Adware does is allow you to stop that cold just by clicking on a PROTECT IE (Internet Explorer) FAVORITES button. In fact, No Adware will alert you and ask for your authorization on all 'Ad to Favorites' requests, both yours and the unauthorized ones.

Scheduled Scans for Malware.

With over 35,000,000 downloads of their free malware scan software, coupled with the mostly positive reviews, I would venture a safe guess that No Adware is software worth giving a try in the fight against all computer pests.

By: Dwight Brown

Spyware Protection - Five reasons why it is essential

That last piece of software that you downloaded, or that last download of mp3 music may also contain software that can display unwanted advertising, track your movements as you surf the web, collect personal information, and even change the configuration settings of your computer. These changes can include your home page and search page selection being altered and additional components being added to your browser. The speed at which your computer runs can also be affected or even worse spyware has been known to cause computers to crash altogether! Apart from the obvious, here are five good reasons why you need adequate spyware protection:

Number One - Personal details being used for identity theft. This one is scary and all too real. Un-authorized credit card charges, loans being taken out under your name, I'm sure you've heard the stories of what a mess this can make of people's lives.

Number Two - Ninety percent of all computers with an internet connection are infected with some sort of spyware. Ninety percent! That is one heck of a lot of computers. Even if a low percentage of this number are infected with spyware that can report back your private information how do you know your computer isn't one of them?

Number Three - Pop Up ads appearing without your consent, sometimes hundreds of them and almost impossible to get rid of. The content of these ads can also be of concern, as there is no way of knowing what will come up next, not pleasant for yourself and not the sort of thing that minors should be exposed to.

Number Four - Your computer systems speed can be greatly reduced once infected with spyware. This can be not only frustrating but when time equals money it can also be costly, very costly. The level of sophistication in today's programs means even a slight loss in computer processing speed can affect some programs immensely.

Number Five - If you have read this far and haven't cancelled all your Internet Connection Plans then you've done well! Seriously though I think the last and not least good reason to have adequate spyware protection is the pure inconvenience of what spyware can do to your computer. Literally hours can be spent trying to remove it once it takes hold and sometimes the removal cannot be done without damaging some of the installations already on your system. Removal would also be particularly hard if you are like me and have very little programming knowledge. I know I wouldn't like to fork out for someone to come and fix something that could easily have been prevented in the first place!

With more and more internet users becoming aware of potential threats when online, let's hope they all do their bit to stamp out this nuisance by being adequately protected and then everyone can have an enjoyable experience surfing the web.

By: Craig Wilson

Spyware and Microsoft Windows

Its deeply integrated into the Windows operating system and its scriptability make it very susceptible to intrusion by malicious software. Browser helper objects can easily attach to Internet Explorer. These helper objects redirect traffic and add toolbars.

The most common cause for users of the Microsoft Windows operating system to seek technical support from internet service providers or computer manufacturers is the infestation of spyware. In most cases the user has no comprehension of spyware and thinks that the system’s stability, performance, and/or connectivity issues relate to Microsoft Windows, hardware, or to a virus. Occasionally, owners of seriously infected systems end up purchasing an entire new computer system because their existing system "has become too unreliable or slow". Extremely infected systems sometimes require a clean re-install of all their software to allow the system to function properly. This is a highly time-consuming chore, even for accomplished users.

Normally, a single piece of spyware does not make a computer unusable. However, an infected computer almost always has more than one piece of spyware installed. AOL did a study in 2004 and concluded that if a computer has any spyware at all, it will be infected by dozens of different pieces. Its the cumulative effect of the different spyware components that cause the problems reported by users. The computer slows down to a crawl, overpowered by the many power-draining processes running on it. Similar to an immune deficiency disease, some kinds of spyware disarms anti-virus software and firewalls, and/or lowers browser security settings, which subjects the system to additional infections. In addition, there have been cases where a spyware program has disabled a competitor’s spyware program already installed on the computer.

There are some forms of spyware that modify system files to make themselves very difficult to remove. For example, Targetsoft changes the "Winsock" Windows Sockets files. Removing the spyware infected file "inetadpt.dll" will interfere with networking usage. For the sake of convenience, a Windows user generally has administrative-level system privileges. Because of this, any program which the user runs, intentionally or not, will have full access to the entire system. Spyware, along with other various dangers, has caused some Windows users to change to other platforms such as Apple Macintosh or Linux, which are less frequently targeted by spyware authors.

The most common complaints about spyware are Pop-up advertisements. Displaying and/or downloading ads can overwhelm a system. Its very rare for an infected system to have only one spyware program running. More typically, the system will be infected by dozens of applications. So, while one of the programs may display ads infrequently, the cumulative effect on the system can become overwhelming.

Most web users dislike offensive or irritating advertisements. Just like banner
ads, some spyware advertisements use flickering banners or animation designed to get the user’s attention — because of this they are very distracting. Pornography Pop-up ads often display indiscriminately, this even includes when children may be using the computer which is in violation of many anti-pornography laws.

By: Leif Wheeler

Protect Yourself from Viruses

These are nasty little customers, and can leave your computer running at a snail’s pace, or can crash it altogether. The very bad ones can erase your data and render your machine useless. Even worse than this, they can get hold of your passwords and credit card details.

There are great antivirus software packages out there, but at times, even they can fail to protect your computer. This is why you need to keep an eye on things, and always remember to run a virus check.

If you have software like Norton’s, you should get automatic updates. Always make sure you take the time to download these. This information may be vital to protect your computer from a newer type of virus.

Computer viruses are always evolving, and those who produce them are always looking for new ways to infect your computer. If you have broadband Internet service, you should know you are at the highest risk for getting a virus.
If you don’t have virus software on your computer, you can find a free virus check on the Internet. There are quite a few that will scan your computer for viruses, but most of them stop there. I remember spending two days looking for a virus check that found the viruses and then took care of them. Most places will scan your computer, show you what you have, and then tell you that you must buy the their software to get rid of them.

This trick is quite common, and also happens with many free spyware and malware scans. You might want to read the fine print before you put your computer through a lengthy virus check only to be told you must then buy the product. Some come with a free trial period, and if they offer that, you may want to do it. In many cases, you may like the service so much that you buy it. This is the best way to find out if a virus check is worth your money.

Another thing to remember when running a virus check is to look into customer support if you choose to buy. You want a company that offers you online support if you run into trouble. Many viruses can be removed by software, but on occasion, some may need to be manually removed. This is often a long and complicated procedure. When you have to do this, it is nice to know help is at your fingertips.

Spyware Programs Protection

These spywares collect data from your computer, and send it to a remote database using your own Internet connection. Spyware creators are constantly changing their applications to avoid detection. Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.

Spyware includes keyloggers, backdoor Trojans, password stealers, and botnet worms, which cause corporate data theft, financial loss and network damage. Protection from spyware is an integral feature of our integrated security solutions, and is detected in the same way as viruses, Trojans and worms. Spyware Secure uses an extensive spyware definitions database and technically efficient spyware detection process. Settings can be adjusted to run scans as frequently as necessary. Spyware is a common term for files that are installed on your system without your knowledge that allow companies to monitor your Internet activity. What they don’t tell you, however, is how these files can be extremely dangerous to your PC and could cause major problems with your PC.
Spyware agents may be buggy (it’s hard to publicly beta test them!) and may cause unexplained system crashed. Other examples include what may appear as random crashes, responsiveness issues and general feeling that your system is unwell. Spyware may be sent to you within a virus. While spyware and viruses may have similar effects on your computer (such as slowing down your system), they have different purposes. Spyware can be used for collecting information about your computer’s hardware and software configuration, your web surfing and online buying habits, your passwords, your email address and personal information including your name, age and gender. If you are wondering “what’s the big deal?”about spyware, think about this: When you have these elements in your computer, you are very easily traced by these unscrupulous companies that are trying to exploit you.

Spyware can compromise your privacy because your personal information may be gathered and distributed to others. You may become a victim of identity theft or fraud. Spyware is often hidden alongside other programs, and you may unknowingly install spyware when you download a program from the Internet or install software from disks. You usually need a specialized anti-spyware program to remove spyware from your computer.

Spyware blacklist has been heavily updated! Go check it out now. Spyware Nuker XT users can play an important role in staying one step ahead of a new adware and spyware by voluntarily participating in ‘SpyShield’. Users that join SpyShield help identify new threats by submitting anonymous scan results. Spyware devices can be used to track your Internet behavior or can be employed for more threatening activities like recording your keystrokes to obtain passwords or pulling information from your personal files. So what can you do to avoid spyware?

Spyware is like a virus in that it is an unwanted program that runs on your computer. However, it does not try to replicate itself to other machines. Spyware could very well be the root of your problem. Get a free spyware scan right now to see if you are infected.

Spyware can be a very good marketing tool. Companies which produce spyware gain lucrative contracts from many companies for the service they provide. Spyware is largely (though not exclusively) an Internet Explorer problem. And like it or not, Internet Explorer, the Swiss cheese of the Internet, commands about 80 per cent of the world’s browsing. Spyware distributors often rely on security holes, clever cons, opaque “bundling” arrangements and other unsavory practices to spread their unwanted payload. As the threat has grown, so has the need to mount a coordinated defense against these unwanted programs and their adverse effects.

Spyware can cause data corruption and pop-up ads. Worse yet, spyware can also result in personal profiling, spying and even identity theft. Spyware can exist in the form of legal (and acceptable) commercial applications that give network administrators a great deal of power both over what they can affect, and see happening on managed systems.

By: kaleb

Spyware - Know Your Enemy

Spyware is as a term is being used quite loosely and includes a number of different programs. The thing they all have in common as spyware, is that they monitor the computer and/or user and share information with a third party. With or without the consent of the computer’s owner.

Semi spyware has become widely used and they manifest themselves as software, plugins or help files to other programs you want or need, and if you accept their policies and term of usage, you also accept the fact that these semi spyware programs will be installed and used.

They are normally not directly malicious as the secret spyware, but they do send out information from your computer to a third party. Most commonly some kind of habit tracing or statistics of surfing or similar. In most cases the information is completely anonymous and do not pose any kind of threat to you as an individual.

Spyware – a virus or not?

Spyware differs from viruses and worms in that it does not usually self-replicate. Like many recent viruses, however, spyware – by design – exploits infected computers for commercial gain.

Typical tactics furthering this goal include delivery of unsolicited pop-up advertisements; theft of personal information (including financial information such as credit card numbers); monitoring of Web-browsing activity for marketing purposes; or routing of HTTP requests to advertising sites.

These things are very hard to keep track of and know if a spyware is alive in your computer or if pop ups and other changes in your surfing programs behaviour should occur.

The only reliable way to know if an evil spyware is living and thriving inside your computer, is to install and use a good spyware removal program.

How does spyware infect?

Spyware does not spread like a computer virus or worm. Instead, spyware installs on your computer through deception or exploitation of software vulnerabilities.

Spyware Trojan horse!

A Trojan horse, by definition, smuggles in something dangerous in the guise of something desirable. So spyware often hide as an add on to some other program you really want.

Bundled Spyware

Spyware can also come bundled with shareware or other downloadable software, as well as music CDs. The user downloads a program (for instance, a music program or a file-trading utility) and installs it, and the installer additionally installs the spyware. Although the desirable software itself may do no harm, the bundled spyware does.

Manipulating Security Features

Another way of distributing spyware involves tricking users by manipulating security features designed to prevent unwanted installations. Internet browsers like Internet Explorer for example are easy targets t this method. Everybody has them and use them online almost daily. The way you protect yourself against this, is to always keep your operating system up to date when it comes to security updates.

Use Microsoft Update regularly (and often).

Examples of Spyware

As with computer viruses, researchers give names to spyware programs which frequently do not relate to any names that the spyware-writers use. Researchers may group programs into "families" based not on shared program code, but on common behaviours, or by "following the money" or apparent financial or business connections.

For instance, a number of the spyware programs distributed by Claria are collectively known as "Gator". Likewise, programs which are frequently installed together may be described as parts of the same spyware package, even if they function separately.

It is also important to know that different anti spyware program creators and big antivirus software creators may have different names for the save spyware. This can cause you to believe that you have 2 or more spyware products installed when you actually only have one, but mentioned with different names.

* CoolWebSearch, a group of programs, installs through the exploitation of Internet Explorer vulnerabilities. The programs direct traffic to advertisements on Web sites including coolwebsearch. To make this happen, they display pop-up ads, rewrite search engine results, and alter the infected computer's hosts file to direct DNS lookups to these sites.

* Internet Optimizer, also known as DyFuCa, redirects Internet Explorer error pages to advertising. When users follow a broken link or enter an erroneous URL, they see a page of advertisements. However, because password-protected Web sites (HTTP Basic authentication) use the same mechanism as HTTP errors, Internet Optimizer makes it impossible for the user to access password-protected sites.

* 180 Solutions transmits extensive information to advertisers about the Web sites which users visit. It also alters HTTP requests for affiliate advertisements linked from a Web site, so that the advertisements make unearned profit for the 180 Solutions company. It opens pop-up ads that cover over the Web sites of competing companies.

Toolbars from any other then the big players like Google, Yahoo, Msn and similar very often contains spyware to some degree today.

And even the big guns have started to incorporate “spyware like” statistics gather from their toolbars. They do tell you about them, and ask for your permission to install or active these routines. But they often do it in such a convoluted way, no one actually understand it.

So start out the day by cleaning your computer and then working. Make sure you have a restful safe day, download, scan and clean your computer from any spyware today …

By: Kenth Nasstrom -

Free Virus Protection Is Great If You Are Broke

To understand why you need a paid or free virus protection, it would be better if you know what a virus is, and how it works. The best way to learn that is actually to be infected by one. We are not going to learn you how to get infected, instead how you best avoid that to happen.

You could be infected right now, totally unaware of it. An email with an virus attachment could also land in your mailbox, and when you open this attachment your computer will be infected. Sooner or later, you'll receive an email like this. If you have either a paid or a free virus protection, this email should be cleaned, quarantined or deleted. If you don't have any protection, you might be in serious trouble.

A virus could be created to do numerous of different things to harm your system. It is a piece of code with the ability to duplicate itself over and over again. A computer virus could for instance cause your telephone bill to show charges for calls you haven't made, and you could be absolutely sure that you did not make those calls, but the charges still appear on your phone bill. What we are talking about here is a so-called "Dialer" -virus. These works with dial-up connections.

Other viruses are made to erase your system files, and the result is a total shutdown of your entire computer system. Viruses could practically do anything they want to. Which intentions the different viruses have, is solely determined by their creators.

So, how do we protect ourselves and our computers against these malicious threats? Well, it has become an endless job to keep systems protected and updated to shield them from the latest threats. No virus protection software, free or paid, knows every virus out there, and there are a large variety of products when it comes to numbers of known virus signatures, and its ability to find and remove the threats.

Many of the largest virus protection manufacturers are known for having a large signature database, but unfortunately it seems that they are not always the best ones to remove the viruses. What I personally value most when it comes to both paid and free virus protection software, is the software's ability to find viruses and destroy them, but also that it runs on little system resources. This way you could still run a virus check, and continue to use the computer as you did.

I will recommend you one piece of free virus protection software that you can test for yourself. It is an open source project started to make private users contribute to the development of this software. It runs on little resources, has a good signature database, and best of all, it's free.

By: FreePcAssistance

A Spyware Primer

After installation, it begins to obtain data and information regarding the users browsing habits and often times will also monitor and track other forms of personal data. The term spyware has recently mutated into a broader term referring to any type of software that is operating on a computer without the users consent to the benefit of an unauthorized third party.

Let us look at some functions that spyware performs without user authorization. Spyware can add affiliate links to shopping portals and thus capture commissions whenever purchases are made by the user. It can monitor internet activity and dictate future email and spam to the user. It can install other third party applications. It can hijack the user browser and add new homepages, icons and favorite links. And probably the most obvious affect of spyware is a very sluggish PC.

Microsoft Windows along with the Internet Explorer browser have been the primary targets of spyware, simply because they cater to the vast majority of users and are the software of choice. Using another operating system or browser may assist in reducing the risk of spyware, but only because it is less common and not because it is more secure. Unfortunately, downloading applications from the internet is the by far the most notable method of infection.

If you are becoming swamped with unwanted advertisements appearing while using your computer or other unwanted toolbars in your browser, it is most likely that you have some form of spyware infection. Kind in mind that probably the most of these come from pornographic and gambling sites, so you might want to consider steering clear of those sites and deleting any email you might receive from these type of sites. Many users are unaware of the incentives involved in spyware. Website owners can be paid as much as $0.50 for each install of an ActiveX control containing spyware, which can be very attractive to many undesirable sites.

After users have been taught some sensible precautions that can be easily taken when using the internet and about downloading software, the effects of spyware can be drastically reduced. It can actually be very straight forward to eliminate and remove spyware with the proper software. Remember that it is very important to combine effective anti-spyware tools with other anti-virus and Firewall applications for complete PC protection.

By: Charles Cox

Computer Virus

While people around the globe should have been counting down to a phenomenal celebration, we were too busy preparing for certain doom and gloom beset by a computer virus. Of course, the clock struck twelve on January 1, 2000 and a new millennium quietly began, bug-free.

Those unfortunate enough to have had to deal with a computer virus knows all too well the damage that can be done. From taking on annoying quirks, to erasing files, to completely obliterating computers or entire systems, the powerful effect of a computer virus is nothing to sneeze at. Computer viruses pose real threats that can be minimal, or can cause worldwide destruction.

In computer security technology circles, the definition of a computer virus is a "self-replicating program that spreads by inserting copies of itself into other executable code or documents". A computer virus behaves in a manner similar to a biological virus, which spreads by inserting itself into living cells.

Extending the analogy, the insertion of a computer virus into a program is termed as an "infection" and the infected file (or executable code that is not part of a file) is called a "host". Viruses are one of several types of malicious software, also known as "malware". The term "virus" is often extended to refer to worms, Trojan horses and other sorts of malware. These are less common than they used to be, however, so the inclusion of these types of malware can be confusing to computer users. This confusion can have serious implications, as it can lead to a focus on preventing one genre of malware over another, potentially leaving computers vulnerable to future damage. The basic rule holds that computer viruses can only damage software, not hardware.

Viruses have targeted in the following types of hosts:

* Boot sectors of floppy disks; hard disk partitions.

* Master boot record of a hard disk.

* Binary executable files (.COM-files and .EXE-files in MS-DOS; portable executable files in Microsoft Windows; ELF files in Linux).

* General-purpose script files (batch files in MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows; shell script files on Unix-like platforms).

* Application-specific script files (Telix scripts).

* Documents containing macros (Microsoft Word documents).

A computer virus by nature is destructive, but others are created solely for the annoyance factor. Some viruses pester computer users with a delayed payload, also known as a "bomb". For example, a bomb virus might display a message on a specific day, or wait until it has infected a certain number of hosts. A time bomb occurs on a particular date or time, and a logic bomb occurs when the computer user takes an action that triggers the bomb. However, the predominant negative effect of viruses continues to be their uncontrolled self-reproduction, which wastes or overwhelms computer resources.

To hinder the continuous spread of computer viruses, programmers have created anti-virus software. However, a fast infector can infect every potential host file that it’s able to access. This presents a special problem to anti-virus software. A virus scanner will perform a system-wide scan, accessing every potential host file on the computer. If the virus scanner fails to notice that a virus exists in the computer’s memory, the virus can "piggy-back" on the virus scanner, and infect every file that is scanned. Fast infectors rely on their incredible spreading rate. To combat the problem, certain anti-virus software programs, like the well-known Spyware, are expanding to cover worms and other threats.

Like the potential devastation of the Millennium Bug in 2000, computer viruses continue to present a real threat to single users and corporate networks alike.

By: Lisa Moore
