If you're in Instagram, you've probably seen this quote in your feed more than once or if not, making its rounds in the 'like' department. For someone like me who has lived by the 'good things' quote, it is kind of hurtful to see it, well, vandalized this way. Of course there's no denying that the vandalized version has truth to it ( but don't we already have "Try and Try..?). Anyway, to those who have never been there, the essence of it all, really, is the DISCIPLINE of WAITING.

Good things come to those who wait.

On Money Matters.

Eleven years ago, my husband and I started our own business. It was just the two of us. We would always go together to our client calls -- I would be the designated "ahente", and he would be my ~~driver~~ "assistant" setting up our products. (That time, we had to buy and set up an answering machine at home because no one would be at the 'office' to answer phone calls, and we can NOT MISS a call from a prospective client!). During our first client meetings, we would be selling our products like we were playing charades because our goods were still in transit as we imported our items from the US. I would demonstrate how how tall it is, how it is packed and how it is set-up all with the sway of my arms and a bit of imagination. Anyway, it was a good first year for us. As money trickled in, we could not help but think of the many things we'd want to spend our money on -- fix the house, buy furniture, go on a trip, and of course things, things and more things! We held off on buying but instead focused on our company's growth. We knew there was still so much to invest on so we waited instead of gratifying ourselves. It was only five years after that I was able to buy something really special for myself. :) By then, from a product-based start, we've expanded to offer services, we've hired employees, what we used to outsource, we soon were able to do in-house.

How many times have we heard of businesses shutting down because the owners spend their sales money immediately and fail to roll it ? I bet you also have that office mate, relative, or friend who lives on credit -- hindi pa dumadating ang pera, nagastos na. Really, people should learn how to wait.

I still have a lot to say on my adventures in waiting but maybe I'll save those for a part 2! I'll leave you with another quote...

I found pretty colored masking tapes and a big one in kraft material!

Get the Crocodile kind, there's another brand but it looks satiny and

too perfect to be 'krafty' looking.

Use these if you want to save your pretty washi tapes,

this you can wrap all around, as much as you want, wherever!

Here's a nice idea:

Set a strip of the kraft tape on sticker backing ( the backing that gets left behind from sticker paper :)).

Get your circle cutter (or you can always trace a circle and cut with scissors).

I had a few tries and found out the best way to do it is to gently glide the blade once all around making just a light marking, then do two more rounds until you cut through it. If you do it digging deep into the material the first time, you will just scrunch it up or end up with jagged edges.

DO NOT USE YOUR CIRCLE PUNCHER. Trust me, I've been there. Hehe.

I have had so many product posts over at Instagram (@iameyecandy) and Facebook and I realized I haven't updated the rest of you with The Candy Shop's new items!

I've always wanted to own a shop, a physical honest-to-goodness shop, only because I would have fun decorating the store window and spend all my time looking at, fixing, and rearranging my products.

How to Cover Your Book in Plastic* Without Using Tape.

(*It's a Filipino thing.)

Materials:

Sealer, mine is 8" long (I know, there's a catch- sorry!) (around P1k in NBS)

Masking Tape

Plastic cover

Scissors

Measure and cut plastic to size.

Don't worry about the top and bottom edges not being straight, it will be trimmed close to the edge later on anyway.

2. KEEP IT CHIC.. Haven't been reading blogs lately, but luckily stumbled into this one. I'm having a SHE COULD BE MY FRIEND moment. This blog is by a chic woman who is happy to see peplum go ("who wants ruffles around the waist?"), a SIMPLE GAL, even admitting to BEING AFRAID OF LIPSTICK (me too!), TRADES SUPERGA FOR TRETORNS --all white only please. I already checked, hihi, plain white Tretorns are 3k(!) in Manila (copycat!).

3. SURI'S BURN BOOK. Ok, I know, where have I been?? A friend told me about this blog. Sooo hilarious. I spent hours back-reading. Learn a thing or two from "Suri" (whatever you do, don't wear ripped denim cut-offs if you want to gain Suri's approval!).

4. RUBEN TOLEDO'S FASHION ALMANAC. Ugh, should've gotten this when I still caught it available in Amazon. One merchant is selling it used at $2,000!!

I fell in love with Ruben Toledo's art when I saw his illustrations on Nordstrom paperbags a long time ago. I didn't know him then. I came across him a 2nd time when I was leafing through my Feb 2007 Harper's Bazaar pages which featured the Toledo's amazing home/ art studio.

The best part in fulfilling an order is of course, the packing!

Here are my packing paraphernalia. I keep them in plastic drawers. I pulled this one out because I'd only be working on the finishing touches. Most of the time I carry my 3-layer drawer over to my working table. Drawers can get really messy so I suggest making little compartments, and try not to overstuff (be ruthless in editing!). These are cardboard boxes I made for every item in the drawer so they don't slide around and jumble together (teehee,you noticed that half-moon cut? I just used a circle puncher). (Oh, and that tidy bag in the first photo, find it HERE.)

The goodies.

I insert my little thank you note cum bookmark (and a few freebies!).

Used my COTTON TWILL as the bookmark's ribbon.

I like to seal my package using a small round fastener.

I first mentioned the paper fasteners HERE.

And add the stick-ons-- thank you sticker, address label and The Candy Shop label. I like to keep it simple and neat. I also get a lot of requests to sell my package label, they're quite handy actually. I use them on everything -- paperbags, recycled shopping bags, envelopes, even tagging stuff my kids need to bring for school. I will sell them soon!

Oh and from today until the end of March, get these name stickers (set of 55 pcs) split into two packs! Get 2 names, each in a separate pack, in one order! It's a more economical way to give as end-of-year gifts to your kids' classmates and friends (hey, even teachers!).

As a bonus, each pack will come with a 'Happy Summer' sticker label so they're ready to give away!

Found this cute little stamp at Muji. It took me a good 10 minutes to think it over -- P155 for a silly, little stamp? Hmm. Deep inside I knew if I left without it, I knew I was going to come back for it ( now that's not very economical is it?).

I like to make to-do scribbles on Post-Its ('scribbles' because somewhere else is a more formal to do list-- oh, you too? haha) and what could be more satisfying than ticking off tasks with a check box?

The stamp also comes with a clear lid (sorry no photo of that one) so you can just throw it back in your drawer after without worrying about smudging your other stuff with ink.

Suddenly my writing is neater and more organized with the lines and equal spacing. Two columns fit in this 4" x 3" pad.

Note: this is a fake list.

Stamp once on this tiny 2" x 1.5" pad. Make your own permission slip? :)

I'lll be using it too on my scrap paper.

No stamp needed here :)

So I finally got to try GRANDMA'S SECRET GOO REMOVER...

Remember the bottles with the crazy, stubborn sticker labels? Read about it HERE.

Some bottles still had sticky film left even after I had done some serious scrubbing with a soapy sponge (yeah, of course I used the green scratchy side, duh). I just had to put GSGR to the test! No, I will not tell you that this is the best product ever, I WILL SHOW YOU! Ha!

BUT I have to tell you first this was done in one take. I wanted to show a side by side before-after comparison on the sticky film but decided mid-way to remove it all instead. So don't drowse off at 0:30. No just kidding, it'll be quick.

And for those who got slightly irritated with the yellow camera filter (it's Vintagio app--make your own silent film!) here are some before and after pics.

Another one of them bottles with crazy, stubborn sticky gunk...

See, no need to soak another night or rub with oil! Um, and you know why we're doing this, right? So we can reuse these bottles and use my PRETTY LABELS on them!
