Feng Shui Bathroom

2011-08-16T01:06:00.001-07:00

Bathrooms should face North, the direction of water, according to Feng Shui. North is also the direction of malevolent spirits and hence, bathrooms are considered to be prone to accidents and mishaps.
A plan where bathroom isn't located directly across from any entry doors would be most preferable. The entry to the home is where career and opportunities enter. If the bathroom is located directly in front of the entry, they could flow out immediately.

Display bamboo and have it reflect in the mirror. Bamboo thrives in any location and plants that grow upward represent money. As well, the reflection doubles the amount of the bamboo.

Good color schemes for a properly located bathroom are light grays, cream colors, and pale blues. If your bathroom is located in the center of the house, paint it red. The fire element will increase income and therefore counteract the drain of wealth.

No family pictures should be placed in the bathroom.

A bathroom is the room for wealth and a dirty and cluttered bathroom can make you poor. Bathrooms that are clean well organized and in good shape, encourage the free flow of energy leading to prosperity in the household.

Place a mirror in the bathroom in such a way that the person in the shower can see the bathroom door clearly.

Pipes of the bathroom should be maintained in good working order and clean them occasionally to prevent clogging.

Don't allow dripping faucets or dirty fixtures to be a part of your bathroom. A dripping faucet is a sign of wasting money.

Sinks and bathtub drains should be kept covered to stop your money from going down the drain.

A screen between the toilet area and shower area is desirable.

Avoid clutter and never ever bring things from the kitchen into the bathroom. One needs to remove waste, dead and stagnant energy that gets blocked ere and cleaning with natural cleaners can help you to keep Chi fresh in this area of your home.

Another way to counteract opportunity and prosperity from being flushed away is to keep a bowl of pebbles or fresh flower arrangement on the toilet tank or on a shelf above the toilet. By adding this element of Earth, you will help control the water.

A black or red rug at the base of the toilet will also provide protection against wealth loss.

If you choose a home with a second floor, the bathroom shouldn't be located over the main entrance.

Feng Shui Bedroom

2011-08-16T00:59:00.000-07:00

The head of the bed should be placed against a solid wall for support. Do not place it against a window as you will not only lack support but your health may be affected by the cold draft from the outside!

Watch out for overhead beams cutting across your bed (lengthwise or otherwise!). Over the long term these beams can cause health problems.

The ceiling should also be level. Sloping ceilings can create emotion related problems.

Also ensure that lighting fixtures, fans and air-conditioners are not installed over your head or any parts of the bed.

Ideally, the bedroom should be as far away as possible from the front door, mirroring the practice of our prehistoric ancestors who did not sleep in the mount of their cave.

On entering your bedroom, note where the windows are located. Chi tends to travel between the door and any windows, so avoid positioning your bed in line with this flow of Chi.

Position your bed so that you can see the door from where you sleep. This gives you a deep sense of inner security.

If it is feasible, position your bed as far away from the door as possible.

Avoid sleeping with your head close to a window as your Chi will dissipate through the window and make you feel more tired on awakening.

If you have a bathroom, toilet or shower leading off you bedroom, make sure that the toilet door is always shut while you are asleep.

Make sure all bedside tables have rounded edges and not square to prevent cutting Chi being focused towards the occupants. If two sleep in the bed, ensure matching beside tables on either side for added stability and protection in the relationship.

If you sleep with another, make sure your bed is symbolic of this relationship. Beds that are rickety or likely to fall part speak volumes about the state of the relationship.

Given that the bedroom is a more yin environment, the lighting that you choose needs to reflect this. Soft lighting is ideal. Avoid having ceiling lamps right directly over your bed.

Pastel colors are ideal for the bedroom.

Avoid sleeping with your image visible in a mirror. The worst scenario if all is a mirror at the foot of your bed.

Place something beautiful that inspires you where you first look in the morning.

Pay attention to what is under your bed. Keep the space clear and get rid of any unwanted items there.

The toilet door should not open to the bed. Ideally the toilet door should be located at the side. If the room is big enough you can place a free standing screen to block the toilet (door) from the bed.

The toilet door should ideally be closed all the time. Installing an automatic door closer will help greatly.

The bed should not share a common door with the toilet/bath. The walls are porous and over a long period the water from the bath can seep through the walls. If your bed is located at the other side of the wall, the excess moisture can affect your health.

A desk is not meant to be in a bedroom, neither is anything else related to work. Electronics such as televisions, stereos and computers are also inappropriate for this particular room, because they will distract you from getting the sleep you need.

Move the exercise equipment out, as they too tend to promote restlessness.

Keep all sorts of doors closed during night. It might be your bedroom door, the door of your closet, your bathroom door etc. This will ensure the optimum flow of nourishing and healing energy and will improve your health and strengthen your relationship.

A good looking and balanced bed is the most important thing in a bedroom. For producing harmonious Feng Shui energy, you need to have good mattress, solid headboard and high quality sheets from natural fibers.

In the oriental cultures, Qi lins or Kei Loons, are widely known and employed as symbolic objects which not only have the purpose of protecting but also helping people achieving some of their life goals.

According to Chinese traditions, qi lin tassels are very loyal to their owners and protect them as they would protect themselves. They would not only protect those who keep it but also help them attract prosperity and good luck to the environment where they are. Therefore, they are ideal for being placed at strategic environment places, such as those which feng shui guidelines indicate to be the right spots for attracting prosperity.
A red string around a qi lin tassel makes this object very auspicious and enhances its good luck powers. The qilin is the Chinese version of the unicorn, with a number of similar creatures including the kirin appearing in the mythology of other Asian cultures. The appearance of a qilin is supposed to bring good luck and prosperity, and you often see depictions of qilins worked into various clothing designs and works of art to convey fortune on the purchaser. Qilins are also depicted in a stylized dance known as a qilin or unicorn dance which involves feats of physical strength and dexterity on the part of the dancers.

The appearance of the qilin is a subject for debate. Most depictions involve a hodge-podge of animal parts, giving the qilin the scales of a carp, the hooves of an ox, the tail of a lion, and the head of a dragon, for example. In many depictions, the qilin has two horns, rather than one, and the horns may lie flat against the animal's head, rather than sticking out. Qilins are closely associated with fire, which they supposedly use to defend the righteous.
A qilin will only appear in an area which is controlled by a just, wise, and benevolent leader, and qilins are closely linked with sages and other wise people. According to the stories, qilins are very gentle, friendly animals, but they can become violent when they need to protect someone. In the course of protecting the righteous, a qilin may breathe fire, gore someone with its horn, or trample someone, making the qilin a useful friend to have at your back in a fight.

In most stories, the qilin is described as a very gentle, loving animal. According to the stories, qilins can walk on grass and flowers without causing harm, and they can also walk on water when they need to. The gentle animals eat a vegetarian diet, and conscientiously avoid injury to all living things. These traits are also regarded as virtues in some parts of Chinese society, so the qilin could also be said to be setting a virtuous example which others should follow.

For a brief period of time, the qilin was identified with the giraffe. This is probably because giraffes were quite novel to the Chinese when they were first brought to China, and giraffes are also naturally gentle, vegetarian animals with heads which do resemble those of some mythical qilin. The qilin is also associated with femininity, perhaps because it exhibits some classically feminine traits like gentleness.

Phoenix and Feng Shui

2010-11-22T00:35:00.000-08:00

Phoenix is a mythical firebird. According to legend, it was supposed to live for anywhere from 500 to 1000 years and beyond, depending on which story you hear. The bird then burns and turns into ashes. Out of the ashes, a baby phoenix appears and is, more or less, the reincarnation of the old phoenix.

The phoenix has other abilities, such as the ability to heal humans. It is said that the tears of a phoenix have the ability to heal almost any wound. This would mean that whomever had a phoenix in his possession would be almost invincible. Because of the resurrection factor, the phoenix became extremely popular to the Christian crowd, representing the resurrection of Jesus Chris.

The Phoenix And Feng Shui

There are a variety of ways that the phoenix can be used in feng shui. Remember: feng shui is not set in stone. Every situation has specific needs in order to make the room flow, and the phoenix is only one thing you can add to your home, business, or garden, in order to invite opportunity and success into your life.

As it pertains to feng shui, the phoenix represents a few things. It represents summer, and warmth, an fire. It is the symbol of the Empress, who represents fame , and it is especially well-known for being the symbol of opportunity.

It the last celestial animal, and is one of the most drawn and well-known. It has been drawn on Chinese pottery for hundreds of years, and is meant to show all of the good things about being human. It represents luxury and a life of ease. Myths say that the phoenix will only appear when there is great wealth. When this occurs, long life and happy marriages are sure to follow.

Using the phoenix in the bedroom

The phoenix can be used in a variety of ways, depending on which room it is set up in. You can even set it up in your garden. For this instance, let’s say that you are setting up your bedroom an want to use the five animal diagram in order to do so. Here’s how you can do it.

First, you would want to have someone to protect you. The tiger would do nicely. Put a little table next to the right side of your bed with a tiger on it. He should be nice and low to the ground, so that he is ready to guard you. A dragon can be set up high, such as on top of a tall dresser. He should be on the left side of the bed to symbolize wisdom.

You will want to avoid temptation to put a chest at the foot of your bed and, instead, keep it empty except for the phoenix. He needs room to fly out in order to see opportunity for you.

The head of the bed should be tight against the wall, with a tortoise using his heavy shell to protect your back. While your bed should be against the wall, you should also be able to see the door. See it, but don’t block it. You do not want to block any energy from entering the room. Also, try to not put your bed next to a window. You want the energy to be able to flow from the window to the door and vice-versa, and blocking the path is not good.

The phoenix is certainly a wonderful addition when you are trying to incorporate feng shui into your home. You can have him in almost any room, placed in the South corner of your bedroom or in the living room; and he will help you find success.

Dragon in Feng Shui

2010-03-27T03:54:00.000-07:00

Dragon is a powerful and auspicious traditional feng shui cure and an excellent feng shui symbol of strong yang / male energy. A pearl, or a crystal, in the feng shui dragon's claw symbolizes wealth, power and an abundance of opportunities. As a popular feng shui cure, dragons come in many sizes and variations of materials and color. A green dragon, for example, is an excellent feng shui cure for the East - health feng shui area - of your home, while a golden dragon can be a great feng shui cure for wealth and abundance. Having a feng shui dragon in any part of your home is auspicious. Do not place the feng shui dragon in lower-energy areas, such as the bathroom, the closets or the garage, and do not have too many dragons in your home. Feng Shui-wise, the maximum recommended number of dragons in the home is 5. Also, do not place the dragon too high, meaning not too high above the eye level. If you want to place the dragon in the love & relationships feng shui area, it is best to pair it up with the feng shui symbol of the phoenix, as dragon & phoenix together are the ultimate feng shui symbol of marital bliss. There are several ways to decide the best feng shui location and positioning of the dragon in your home. You can make your choice based on:

Your best/lucky directions. Will it look good/harmonious in your home (in relation to all the other elements/items you have) if it will face one of your feng shui best/lucky directions? You can find out your lucky directions by first calculating your Kua number.

The wealth star for the current year. (Check where the feng shui wealth star is located this year) The location of the feng shui wealth star changes every year, so you will have to change the dragon's facing direction, too.

Ideally, you will place your feng shui dragon:

close to an open space, or in an open space

careful not to have the pearl in the dragon's claw facing toward the window or the door.

facing towards the house (to bring in the energy of wealth) but not feel cramped/restricted by facing a close wall.

Dragons are powerful and magical feng shui creatures, give them a lot of breathing room and treat them with respect.
The celestial Dragon is the ultimate good luck symbol. This wonderful creature features in all the Chinese divinity sciences and is central to the practice of feng shui. Places with excellent feng shui are said to enjoy the dragon's cosmic breath. Thus placing a dragon image in the office is always said to bring great good fortune. The East is the place traditionally associated with the dragon... thus placing the dragon image on the East always represents excellent feng shui.

Several different ways to energize the good fortune breath of the dragon:

Purchase a dragon image and display it on a table or cabinet on the East side of your office/study. This can be made of ceramic, crystal, or wood. Dragons made of gold, cloisonne or other metals are NOT encouraged since the metal element destroys the wood element. Also, NEVER place the dragon inside the bedroom - it is too YANG a creature.

Hang a picture of a dragon along the East wall of your office.

Simulate the green dragon of the East in your garden by having flowering plants set in a winding flowerbed on the East side of your garden.

Display ceramic bowls and art objects with the dragon image.

Use a table with dragons carved on the legs, or a table with a dragon inlaid with mother of pearl. This table can be your desk, but remember, not everyone has sufficient Yang energy to sit at a dragon table.

Feng means wind and shui means water. In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune, while bad feng shui means bad luck, or misfortune.

Feng Shui is based on the Taoist vision and understanding of nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with Chi, or energy. The ancient Chinese believed that the land's energy could either make or break the kingdom, so to speak. The theories of yin and yang, as well as the five feng shui elements, are some of the basic aspects of a feng shui analysis that come from Taoism.
