"Patina is the value that age puts on an object. It's what makes an antique antique. It is experience, maturity, the soft sheen of time. Patina wasn't present at the spanking-new creation. It comes from a life lived." ~John Yemma

Beautiful performance by Taylor Swift at the CMA awards show last night! Loved the orchestra and that she played the piano.

Afternoon Hike

2010-11-10T15:29:00.026-05:00

Today a friend and I decided to go for a walk during our lunch break. The hike we chose was Barren Fork Coal Camp Heritage Trail which is in The Daniel Boone National Forest. The .65 mile trail loops around the site of an old coal mining camp that is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Signs along the trail document what life was like in the mining community which was active from the 1800s to the 1930s. Remnants of old houses and other structures can be spotted alongside the path.

Gorgeous fall weather, still warm enough to be comfortable without a jacket, helped make the walk more enjoyable. The leaves, although still pretty, had passed their peak fall color and because of all the recent rain, many had fallen off the tree branches. The trail was almost completely covered in leaves. Someone we met along the trail told us that a bear had been spotted on this trail before. Overall it was a pleasant walk for the amount of time we had to spend.

A GREAT BLUE HERON?

2010-08-14T20:50:00.011-04:00

While driving to town with my daughters today, my daughter snapped these pictures of a bird beside the water with her cell phone. We are wondering if it could possibly be a Blue Heron.

THE LAKE

2010-07-29T03:59:00.003-04:00

My work meeting today was at the lake. The lake and weather were both beautiful. I think if we have meetings at the lake we should dress for the lake, not have to wear stuffy work clothes : ) I wanted to be in or on the water so badly!

Happy First Day of Summer!!

Today is the first day of Summer and we've already had temperatures above 90 degrees here. School still has NOT let out because of too many missed snow days. Fortunately today is the beginning of the last week for the students. Anyway, hope everyone has wonderful plans to enjoy the hot weather!

On the River

2010-06-16T01:45:00.002-04:00

Have you ever gone "tubing" on a river? I haven't...yet. It seems so relaxing, the idea of floating along with the current of a lazy river and experiencing the sights and sounds of nature.

Simply lovely...

Tall Tiger Tale...

2010-06-14T02:52:00.002-04:00

Found these odd bits of information while surfing the internet recently--

In an attempt to attract more visitors, the Dahe Pet Civilization Park in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China painted a Golden Retriever to look like a tiger and

chow puppies to look like pandas.

Go here to see a slide show with more pictures of the dogs (Reuters/Donald Chan).

In the United States some groomers are competing on a reality television series on TLC called "Extreme Poodles".

This poodle has been groomed to look like a buffalo.

Go here to see a "camel", "peacock", "chicken", "pirate", "horse" and MORE from the Today Show news slide show. You won't believe the "horse".
