This year’s NEXT conference, held as usually in one of the most interesting start-up hubs of the world – Berlin, addressed the issue of post-digitalism and what it means for the development of technology. The conference that took place on May 8th and 9th attracted some great speakers such as David Weinberger, George Dyson and Alexander Bard.

The future of the network

The main thought of the conference was that in the era of post-digitalism people are no longer interested in technologies themselves but in what technologies can offer to them in terms of usability. That means a major shift for tech companies which was expressed by a representative of Deutsche Telecom, Rene Obermann. “We have to open to two-sided markets” he said and informed the audience that DT is launching a new start-up incubator in Berlin – hub:raum. George Dyson, a science historian, added on the subject of the future of technology by proposing a few ideas like three-dimensional computing, template-based addressing and pulse-frequency coding.

We live in times of massive schizophrenia

Alexander Bard, Internet sociologist and probably one of the most interesting speakers of the conference was talking about the condition of humanism in times of the growth of social networking sites and increase of privacy issues. Well, according to Bard, humanism is dead. What is more, we all have multiple identities online which makes us schizophrenic. People seem to be confused about their digital footprint and put a lot of irrelevant and junk information online but as Bard underlines – it is a huge information explosion. This is why managing the information on the web might be the future of post-digitalism.

The app-economy and its consequences

The number of presentations on mobile is a proof itself that it was one of the most important subjects at this year’s NEXT. The app-economy brings both questions on technology and weather we will need the classical web in the future and on privacy and increasing data sharing possibilities. One of the bloggers, present at the conference (Adelina Paltea) argued that data is the currency that people use the days to get things in return. They created their own Big Brother but they don’t really care as long as at the end of the day they get what they wanted from the equasion.

Too big to know – living in the world of networked knowledge

The last speech of the conference was given by an excellent David Weinberger, Harvard University scholar and author of many important publications like Cluetrain Manifesto and the very last one “Too big to know”. Our brain weighs only 2 kilos and yet we want to know everything which is impossible. So we invented experts, we follow books to get our answers. But they know only a little about a small piece of world – they are finished. This is when network comes in – every piece of knowledge is only a beginning. As Weinberger says, knowledge comes from disagreement and this is how we can advance our development – by discussion.

The 2012 NFL Draft has come and gone and we are going to take a look at the 5 teams who impressed and the 5 teams who made us all wonder just what the heck they were thinking with their picks.

As players heard their name called and the smiles and cheers went up, as teams jockeyed, traded and made deal after deal to get the player or players they had their eyes on. The biggest winners this year is the Eagles and Steelers, the biggest losers are the Texans, Saints or Bears.

Teams with the 5 Best Drafts
1. Pittsburgh- Had an amazing draft and must have found a 4 leaf clover on their way there, as having David DeCastro fall to them late in first round was the first of a draft full of nice picks for the Steelers. And luckily for the Steelers, they did so good in the draft the Cat won’t have to play for them this year, but he is ready if needed!
2. Philadelphia- Had a perfect draft picking up several great defensive players like DT Fletcher Cox, LB Mychal Kendricks, DE Vinny Curry and CB Brandon Boykin, while they also grabbing players for offense like QB Nick Foles, WR Marvin McNutt and a OT, OG and RB, giving them a wonderful draft.
3. Arizona- Did a great job helping Kevin Kolb by bringing in Michael Floyd to play opposite Larry Fitzgerald, and made Kolb even happier by picking three offensive lineman, including OT Bobby Massie and OG Senio Kelemete, so the Cards made some very nice picks.
4. New England- The Pats need D and that’s what they got as they dedicated the draft to D, with only Dont’a Hightower as questionable as he is from Alabama which doesn’t put out NFL caliber players, most are busts in the NFL, so Hightower is a question going in, but otherwise the Pats had a great draft.
5. St. Louis- The Rams had a typical Jeff Fisher draft with great results picking up potential impact players on offense and defense, including DT Michael Brockers, CB Janoris Jenkins, and WR’s in Brian Quick and Chris Givens along with RB Isaiah Pead, giving Sam Bradford several new weapons.
*6. Special – Buffalo- Did as good a job improving the team in the draft as they did in free agency, with pickups like CB Stephon Gilmore, OG Cordy Glenn and OT Zebrie Sanders.
*7. Special – Carolina- Had a solid draft picking up LB Luke Kuechly and OG Amini Silatolu, as well as others on offense and defense to help build their team around Cam Newton.

Teams with the 5 Worst Drafts
1. New Orleans- Blew it is the best way to put it, but they did the same thing last year taking the Alabama Bust at RB, Mark Ingram.
2. Denver- Why they traded down out of round 1 to gain extra picks and then spend them on questionable players, including a very questionable QB in Brock Osweiler, while ignoring their blatant need at DT and ILB, to take 2 DE’s and now list them at DT’s, so the Broncos did great in free agency and winning Peyton Manning, but blew the draft.
3. Houston- Not sure what happened here as they went from being a very impressive team last year, to first off ignoring their most obvious needs in the draft, and when finally addressing needs, they picked players who are not right for their system, so this draft is a D at best.
4. Chicago- Picked LB Shea McClellin which doesn’t make any sense as he doesn’t fit their system. They also picked a questionable WR, and they didn’t even touch their desperate need on the O-line, which we are sure Jay Cutler is very happy about (note the extreme sarcasm here!).
5. Kansas City- Do not many glaring needs but do have needs, some needs, and little was met by their choices. If Dontari Poe turns out to be a monster DT then this will be a B grade draft.
*6 Special – San Francisco- Made a what the heck?? move by picking WR A.J. Jenkins in the first round, a WR no one saw going before the 5th, but who many are saying is the 49ers next Jerry Rice. Considering the risk they took taking Jenkins over others, if he doesn’t turn out to be the next Jerry Rice, Randy Moss or Andre Johnson, Jim Harbaugh will hear about this till the day he retires!

Grades for all teams
AFC
AFC EAST Buffalo A, Miami B-, New England A-, N.Y. Jets C+

AFC North Baltimore C, Cincinnati B+/B-, Cleveland B-, Pittsburgh A

AFC South Houston D-, Indianapolis C, Jacksonville B, Tennessee B

AFC West Denver D, Kansas City D, Oakland C-, San Diego B-

NFC
NFC EAST Dallas B-, N.Y. Giants B-/C+, Philadelphia A+, Washington B-

NFC North Chicago D-, Detroit B, Green Bay B, Minnesota B-

NFC South Atlanta C+, Carolina B+, New Orleans D-, Tampa Bay B-

NFC West Arizona A, San Francisco D (A if Jenkins is great), Seattle B-, St. Louis A-

We hope you enjoyed the draft and hopefully your team’s picks will pan out and you will have lots to cheer for this coming football season.

This is it, the day before the 2012 NFL Draft, with so many teams in need and some desperately looking for help from this year’s draft. Who do you think your team will pick? Will they pick a Boom or a Bust in the first round? This is who the 123people fantasy football team thinks your teams will pick this year.

Round 1
1. Indianapolis Colts – Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford – It is no secret that the Colts will take Luck to start their post Manning days, but remember that besides QB, the Colts need help all over the place.

2. Washington Redskins – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor – The Skins traded up to get Griffin, to answer their need at QB. Will he be the answer they are looking for?

3. Minnesota Vikings – Matt Kalil, OT, USC – Minnesota needs help on the O-line at wide receiver and in their secondary. They are going to start this year with Matt Kalil, the best OT available to protect Christian Ponder.

4. Cleveland Browns – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama – The Browns need help and a lot of it! Mike Holmgren is good at building teams, very good, but he has his work cut out for him in Cleveland. Richardson is a great start as he looks like a star running back.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU – The Bucs did great in free agency bringing in some key talent, but they still need help in several areas. Claiborne is a perfect fit at corner and will learn well under veteran CB Ronde Barber.

6. St. Louis Rams – Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi St. – The Rams need receivers yes, but Jeff Fisher knows how to build a team and he built the Titans through the lines. He will do the same in St. Louis, starting with Cox to improve a D-line that has already obtained some good free agents. They may surprise and take Blackmon, but that is not a typical Jeff Fisher move, taking a player like Cox is.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St – Instead of Ingram, the Jags still need receivers as Laurent Robinson was a great pickup, but can’t do it all himself. The Jags will be counting their blessings Blackmon fell to them and will be sprinting to the podium to call his name!

8. Miami Dolphins – Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M – It looks like Miami is putting its future in the hands of the talented, yet unproven Tannehill. Their need for a QB is not as great as most sports writers make out, not with Moore and Garrard at hand. But, they will take the developmental project in Tannehill. We think they should focus on the O-line and D-line, and take QB later, but Tannehill looks like he is there choice, so good luck to the Dolphins.

9. Carolina Panthers – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame – With Cox off the board the Panthers will look to add some much needed weapons to Cam Newton’s arsenal, he can’t do it all himself afterall. They may still look to improve their interior defense, maybe Luke Kuechly or Michael Brockers, but with several solid DT’s and LB’s coming out this year, they will address this need later.

10. Buffalo Bills – Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa – While some think they will take a defender or a receiver, we still believe they are going to imrove an O-line that needs it, something Ryan Fitzpatrick will appreciate, as they take Reiff who can play tackle or guard and will be a big improvement to their O-line.

11. Kansas City Chiefs – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College – We originally had the Chiefs taking DeCastro, but the need at linebacker and in middle of their D will prompt them to take the tackling machine that is Kuechly. There is still a chance they will take DeCastro, but after further analysis we believe they are going to go with Kuechly.

12. Seattle Seahawks – Melvin Ingram, LB/DE, South Carolina – Our first Mock Draft we had DeCastro going to KC and if they didn’t take him the Hawks would jump to pick the awesome guard, but with changes afoot and Melvin Ingram falling into their lap, Pete Carroll will jump on the pass rushing monster that is Ingram. If they don’t take Ingram it will be DeCastro, and with either player the Hawks win big with their first pick.

13. Arizona Cardinals – David DeCastro, OG, Stanford – I am still questioning DeCastro falling this far, but if he does the Cards will jump all over the best guard to come out in years, one who will immediately help a pretty weak offensive line.

14. Dallas Cowboys – Mark Barron, SS, Alabama – Even though Barron is another Crimson Tide risk, from my research on Tide players turned pro the outcome is shockingly bad, as most Alabama players are busts at best. But, Barron looks good and the Cowboys still need more help in the secondary. They may also take Cordy Glenn to help strengthen a rather weak O-line.

15. Philadelphia Eagles – Cordy Glenn, OT/OG, Georgia – The Eagles need help on the O-line and Glenn is good enough to play either guard or tackle, so they will take the O-lineman to help block for Vick and McCoy. Most analysts have Reid taking a D-lineman and while that is a typical Andy Reid thing to do, he is a smart and very good coach and their need on the O-line is too great to ignore, and he will not ignore it.

16. N.Y. Jets – Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina – The talented Coples is too good a talent to let pass any further, despite the drop he has taken after admitting to playing half heartedly last season. He is a great talent and for that reason along with their desperate need for a pass rush, Ryan and the Jets will welcome him with open arms.

17. Cincinnati Bengals – Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse – Jones has been rising on the draft boards and the Bengals need to replace those D-lineman lost in free agency, and do so excitedly with the pass rushing talents of Chandler Jones.

18. San Diego Chargers – Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford – Some questions about his abilities at the NFL level have arisen, but the Chargers need help big-time on their O-line and will take Martin to try and plug the weaks and leaks. They could also take a pass rusher like Nick Perry.

19. Chicago Bears – Mike Adams, OT, Ohio St. – The Bears need to improve their O-line to protect Cutler to give him a chance to get the ball to Marshall, now that they have been reunited.

20. Tennessee Titans – Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina – Once again our Titans expert Brad says the Titans will be going D all the way, D-line and D-backs, and with Gilmore still available they will jump to replace Finnegan with the big, physical corner from South Carolina. They could yet surprise us and take a D-lineman, maybe Whitney Mercilus or Devon Still.

21. Cincinnati Bengals – Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama – The heat is on as the issues and questions about Jenkins off-field problems are dropping him on draft boards. But, as the Bengals are known for overlooking issues when talent is involved, we are sticking with our belief that they will pick Janoris Jenkins, unless Gilmore is available.

22. Cleveland Browns – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor – Holmgren will continue to load up talented weapons for Colt McCoy, and with the many extra draft picks they have, they will use the mid and late round picks for lineman, linebackers and D.

23. Detroit Lions – Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama – With Glenn and Adams off the board and no elite first round OT’s, Matt Stafford will just have to wait till round two for the Lions to get him more protection. For now they will take a much needed corner in Dre Kirkpatrick, who again is a serious risk as players from Alabama are doubtful at the NFL level. But, their desparate need for corners and DB’s makes this a Must Do situation.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama – The Steelers are getting old and need some young talent on both the offensive and defensive lines, at linebacker and DB, and after cutting James Farrior they will take Hightower as his replacement. Hightower is another Bama player that triggers doubts and questions about the ability to play at the NFL level, so let’s hope the Steelers are right in picking him as he could be another Bama Bust.

25. Denver Broncos – Michael Brockers DT/DE, LSU – The Broncos have Manning and may take some offensive weapons to help him, but with their D looking pretty good yet in dire need of DT’s, they will take the talented Brockers who could develop into a very dominant defensive lineman.

26. Houston Texans – Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech – The Texans may look to replace Mario Williams, but we think they will add a receiver to play opposite Andre Johnson, and with his amazing speed and talents, Stephen Hill will be a Texan and alongside Johnson they will make a fearsome pair of receivers that DB’s will dread playing against.

27. New England Patriots – Whitney Mercilus, OLB/DE, Illinois – New England needs D in a big way, they need pass rushers, run stoppers and DB’s, and they will improve their pass rush with last year’s NCAA sack leader, Mercilus.

28. Green Bay Packers – Shea McClellin, LB, Boise St. – The Pack has need for a pass rusher and if Chandler Jones falls this far they will take him, if not they will take McClellin who is rising on draft boards and could be a great addition to their D to play opposite Clay Matthews.

29. Baltimore Ravens – Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin – The Ravens have some serious needs at C, G and at ILB as Ray Lewis will not be there forever… unless he take a Brett Favre approach to retiring. The Ravens needs are greatest on the O-line and they will take Konz, the best C in this year’s draft.

30. San Francisco 49ers – Amini Silatolu, G/OT, Midwestern State – With the loss of RG Adam Snyder to the Cards there is a big hole on the right side of the 49ers O-line that they will fill with Silatolu, who is rising fast and high across draft boards. They could also take talented D-lineman Kendall Reyes or a wide out to help their passing game.

31. New England Patriots – Nick Perry, DE, USC – The Pats likely will trade this pick away, but if they still have it come draft day, while they need DB’s badly, a talented pass rusher like Nick Perry falling this far is a gift, and Bill Belichick will take him, happily. They could also take a different D-lineman like Kendall Reyes, Jerel Worthy or Devon Still.

32. N.Y. Giants – Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan St. – The Giants are tough to call as they have some strengths, some needs, and a lot of ways they could go here. We are breaking from our original pick of Andre Branch as we think they will take Jerel Worthy to bolster their interior D-line. They may also take TE Coby Fleener as this is an area of need.

This year the draft is loaded with talent and potential NFL stars and will be fun to watch who picks who, who wins and who loses, and with the number of talented players coming out this year, the second round will be just as exciting as the first!

For users, this is an important service to monitor and control their personal information.

Check Your Digital Footprint
By using the Internet, and therefore giving away personal information, every person creates their own “digital footprint”. 123people helps you to track down personal information that is spread all over the Internet, which is freely available on search engines, social networks and more. As the physical and online worlds continue to become more interconnected, it is important for people to regularly check their own Online Reputation and information. In order to manage your personal information online, not only do you need to know which information is available, but also where it is coming from. Both are made possible at 123people.

123people Manager: Empowering the User
Now, with the “123people Manager”, the control of your Online Reputation has become very easy: After filling out a short form on the 123people website, users receive a link allowing them to mark all the personal information they wish to remove from the 123people. After a check by the Customer Support Team, the request is conducted and the information disappears, at least from 123people. With this new service, 123people makes a clear statement regarding user empowerment and the right to be forgotten online.
