I was going to write a lovely post but was informed by Hubby that I should go to bed. It was past midnight and we both know that I am cranky if I don’t get enough sleep.

Since he is so smart and always right, I am going to follow his advice and go to bed. I love you all and am thankful you continue to read this blog even though I’m not posting as often.

They are my all time favorite band. Their album, Youth, is what I listen to in the car. The only other CDs I listen to in the car are No Doubt and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs but my absolute favorite is Youth.

Different gun: I didn’t do as well.

I’m still sorting through the emotions of that experience. To be holding a piece of machinery that could kill or seriously hurt someone was scary.

Now my emotions are now running all over again. I typed this post, inserted my pictures, and previewed it to see how it looked. That’s when I saw my “Related Posts” section. The post it brings up is Jeremy Moore (a local pizza delivery man who was killed so someone could have free pizza).

Hubby has some vacation days he has to use or lose.

I had dreams of going to a cabin, hanging out, hiking, reading, and relaxing in nature.

Reality set in and we realized that wouldn’t be possible.

Hubby took a couple of days off from work so we could have an extra long weekend, hang out with friends, visit with some family…

I looked at my school schedule to see what homework and tests I have coming up.

Yeah. I won’t be relaxing. I will be studying. Yay me.

My summer courses started today and already I am wondering why the heck I took classes during the summer.

Oh yeah, because it would be easier to keep the 3 yo entertained with the two older kiddos at home. She has someone to play with and I can try to sneak in some studying while they are playing. That was the plan.

The plan is working fine but there are times where I am reading my chapters (ok, chapter) and am having a hard time concentrating. There are also the times where I’m trying to watch the videos and I can’t hear (even though I have head phones on) because they are louder than my computer.

Although classes officially started today, I have had access to the assignments since before the weekend. I thought I would get a head start so I wouldn’t have to worry about falling behind. Wrong. I didn’t get ahead. Not really.

Oh. My. I am going to have to figure something out. So this morning I got up at 7 a.m., fixed coffee, and studied in the back yard. It was peaceful. It was beautiful and I got quite a bit of reading done.

I’m definitely doing that again because it was much easier to focus than it is when the kiddos are running around. It’s even better than trying to study at night when I want to relax and spend time with Hubby.

So 7 a.m. and I are officially dating (at least this week).

Today happens to be both my BFFs’s birthday.

Before I married Hubby I was a fairly independent person. Then somehow along the way I became dependent. Possibly even co-dependent on him. What ever it was it wasn’t healthy.

Then Hubby’s job took him away from the home for six months. I had to start becoming independent again.

Then Hubby’s job moved us away from friends, family, and everything that was familiar. Not only that we were moving to a much bigger city. One that had interstates and signs to pay attention to. One that had good areas of town and bad areas of town. One where I could easily get lost. One that had lots of traffic (my main concern).

I had to really start being independent. I had to learn how to drive in a big city. I had to learn how to get from point A to point B by using Google Maps. I had to make new friends. I had many new things I had to do.

This move was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Because I had to experience so many new things I have a renewed confidence in myself. A confidence I didn’t know was missing until I moved away from all I knew.

This independence I was forced to find has been a lifesaver for me. Without it I don’t know how I would have survived this past year.

One year ago I moved away from Best Friend and K. One year ago Best Friend and I were hugging each other good-bye knowing we were only a couple of hours away but not knowing when we would see each other again. (I’ve only seen her a handful of times since I’ve moved.)

I love my old life but I love this life much better. I love who I have become and who I am becoming. (I also love my cell phone and text messaging plan so I can keep talking to Best Friend.)

I love my independence I have worked hard to get. It hasn’t been easy. At first I would have anxiety attacks but somehow I got over those. Somewhere along the way the anxiety vanished. I don’t know where it went but I’m glad it’s gone. It does try to creep back every once in a while but I remember where I used to be and push the anxiety away.

I love my life.

I pride myself on reading anything. I tell people I will read anything. That’s actually not true. I’ll read anything but science fiction or fantasy. I have a hard time imagining the fake worlds and reading the strange names. It frustrates me.

I did enjoy the Harry Potter series but I only started reading the first one to see what all the fuss was about. Seven books later I think my curiosity has been sated. I did read Stardust by Neil Gaiman a few years ago because a friend liked it and Hubby wanted me to watch the movie with him.

Then I read Coraline (also by Neil Gaiman) the other day. I loved it. Hubby has been wanting me to read it for years. I didn’t want to read it because Hubby said it was creepy and scary. I don’t like creepy and scary so I stayed away from it.

Then N started reading it. I thought it would be neat to be reading the same book at the same time as my son so I started reading it also. I was so engrossed in the book that Hubby was trying to have a conversation with me and I had no clue he was talking to me.

I finished Coraline the next day and am getting ready to start The Graveyard Boy (also by Neil Gaiman). Once I finish it I will read The Road because Hubby asked me to and after that I plan on reading another Neil Gaiman book. I’m not sure which one but we have several on our bookshelf.

I guess I’m finding out that I can’t discount a whole genre just because I didn’t like a few of the books I had tried to read before. I don’t do that with any other genre so why this one? (I don’t know the answer to that question.)
