I lost a bit of steam in my 12th week.  Getting back into the swing of teaching has really thrown off my focus on my other projects.  I think it’s a combination of this as well as feeling like I don’t have a real sense of where I’m going with my acting.  I need to reboot and think about how to approach my acting in the future.

–Update: 9/23/07–

Not such a focused week on the acting side.  I’m finding the shift to teaching twice a week challenging and staying focused in the time that I do have off is challenging.  I decided to not go on the Bats audition on Tuesday and I’m happy with that decision.  It just didn’t feel right, and I did use the time productively.  Overall, this week has been more about clearing the decks.  I got done what I needed to get done on the book.  I finally eliminated the last pile of papers and that feels great.  I’m going to call it an early night and be happy about what I did accomplish this week, rather than beat myself up for what I didn’t.

This week was all about the audition that I had on Saturday. I got called back for Sunday, but didn’t end up getting the part. So it goes. (The play I was reading for was Slaughterhouse 5 at the Godlight Theatre.) I did the best I could on the material and learned a lot so I’m pleased with the way this week went. The fact that I got the audition in the first place was a direct result of submissions I’ve made over the last 10 weeks. Interestingly enough, I passed a street vendor on the way home from the audition and found 4 plays and a book on acting for $2.50 each…. then found $10 on the street when leaving the masterclass tonight.

I just have to keep reminding myself that 80% of this is just showing up.

I received the details this week about an audition that I’m looking forward to which was very cool.  I think a lot of the difficulty I’m having with working on my monologue has to do with a lack of excitement about monologues in general, and feeling like I don’t have a specific direction or way to work on them.  Something I definitely need to find a way to address.  This coming week will be all about my audition on Saturday…

The book seemed to take up a great deal of time this week. I wish that I could say that’s the sole reason I only completed 3 of my project parts, but it’s not. I seemed to have a great deal of resistance to doing the singing/voice-speech/monologue work this week. It’s one of those examples of “I know this is good for me… I know I should be doing this… yet I’ll find whatever excuse I can not to do it.” I do feel good about the fact that I stuck it out and mailed my headshots/resume out for something that I really would like to be invited to audition for. Also spent some extra time working out the wording of the cover letter. I have no idea whether or not I’ll be invited to audition for this thing, but I’m going to try and keep that audition date in mind as I spend time on my acting in these coming weeks. Hopefully this will help keep me motivated.
