I love Bobbi Brown. As I've gotten older (yes, I'm about to turn 40, I think I likely qualify as old. Or Old-ish.) I've found that their products work even better for me. I've pulled together a list of favorites, and believe me, it was hard to pare it down this much! I was pulling stuff out of drawers and off of my vanity... so many of my daily go-to products are from Bobbi!

1. Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner

This is a well pigmented eyeliner, and it works really well when you smudge it right into your lash line. It stays put all day!

My favorite shade: Chocolate Truffle

2. Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner

I think of this as the "original and best" gel eyeliner. I dip the Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush into the liner and then smudge it right at the base of my lashes. It creates a very defined line and it doesn't smudge.

3. Corrector
Buy it at Bobbi Brown, Nordstrom, Saks or Sephora

Bobbi Brown's concealer is a classic, and while I do like it, I tend to reach for the Corrector a lot more. It has a faint peach tint, just enough to cancel out my undereye circles. However, it is enough of a skin tone color that I can wear it alone, without needing to layer a regular concealer over it.

4. Skin Foundation Stick

This is one of my go-to products for work, I mentioned it in my 5 Makeup Basics for a Makeup Bag post. I just draw all over my face, then buff with a brush. It gives me perfect medium to full coverage concealer in about 2 minutes! I use Cool Sand as my shade, note that the Bobbi Brown site typically has the largest selection of shades.

5. Eye Shadow

Bobbi's shadows are just amazing. You can buy the big single pans (I recommend getting one of the empty palettes and filling it), but really I just go for the limited editions that come out in stores each season. I have found that they are beautiful colors and blend well. To get a slightly richer color, I do often use them with a glitter eyeshadow primer (the ELF one is my favorite).

6. Smokey Eye Mascara

I mentioned this in my Favorite Splurge Mascaras post, this is my go-to non-waterproof mascara. It picks up every lash and keeps it looking long and curled all day long without smudging.

7. Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick
Buy from Bobbi Brown, Nordstrom, Saks or Sephora

This shadow stick is super easy to use, just draw it over your eye and blend with a fingertip or shadow brush. It lasts all day and takes about 30 seconds to create an eye look.

The best shades: Pink Sparkle, Truffle, Nude Beach, Goldstone

8. Blush

I swear I've been using the same Bobbi Brown blush in Pale Pink since October and it barely looks touched. Don't let the shocking pink fool you, this pop of color creates just the right glow and it works whether you are super pale or very dark. It really works for everyone!

9. Bronzing Powder

This is a very pigmented matte bronzing powder, perfect for creating a sun-kissed look. I use Elvis Duran, which is the lightest shade.

10. Extra Lip Tint

Confession: I now own three of these lip balms. I carry them everywhere. Here's my original Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint review. I wear it in Bare Pink.

11. Art Stick

They recently came out with a liquid version of this stick, but I prefer the original version. It's a well pigmented and easy to use lippie, it lasts for hours. My favorite shade is shown here, Dusty Pink.

12. Shimmer Brick Compact

You can use it as blush or a highlighter, just vary the size of your brush to change up the application. My go-to shade is Pink Quartz, but it comes out in many different variations and some stores have exclusives.

The Best Anti-Aging Moisturizer: Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream

I first reviewed Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream in 2007 (yes, 10 years ago), right when it was being released. I was blown away by this super moisturizing face cream! It was full of peptides to improve collagen production. There was also a lot of hyaluronic acid to really help plump up the outer layers of your skin while it hydrated, something that it did without feeling heavy on your skin.

Since my initial review, I have been recommending this cream left and right. You're 20 and want to start anti-aging early? You want to prevent premature aging without irritating your skin? You want a cream to use with your retinoid? You want a drugstore cream? You want a department store cream? Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is the correct answer for each and every one of those situations.

How Does It Work?
Since I first reviewed it, Olay has made some minor adjustments here and there in the formulation. The list of active ingredients is even longer, and the cream is just... better. It's true!

I don't have the full ingredient list from the original Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. However, I do have the new list and I don't remember so many active ingredients.

• Amino-Peptide: This was my major attraction to the original. They increase collagen production in your skin, decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They are non-irritating and in my opinion should be included in everyone's anti-aging skincare routine.

• Niacinamide: This is a Vitamin B3 derivative and in skin care it boosts cell turnover, which improves your skin's tone and texture. It also helps with maintaining the moisture barrier, which is overall very important for your skin's health and function.

I need to be honest and say that the exact chemical structure of the derivative makes a big difference in skincare! The different derivatives will work, but some versions of niacin cause flushing and irritation of the skin. Typically you will find non-irritating niacins (usually niacinamide derivatives) in much more expensive skincare. Olay has included a non-irritating Niacinamide in Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream.

• Panthenol: A derivative of Viamin B5, you'll find this in a lot of soothing face products. It also easily penetrates into the skin, where it holds on to water and moisturizes the skin. Your skin will also use it to help create coenzyme A, which is very important to your skin's health, and it helps in wound healing.

• Vitamin E: A great anti-oxidant, it neutralizes the oxygen free radicals created by exposure to things like the sun and pollution. Over time, the free radicals can result in skin damage and premature aging. It also helps maintain your skin's moisture barrier.

• Olivem: A derivative of olive oil, it increases the penetration of anti-aging ingredients into the skin.

• Carob Seed Extract: Newly added to the formulation, this extract is also active in skin repair and regeneration.

• Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid: Two of my favorite moisturizers, they both hold a lot of moisture in to your skin but won't feel heavy or greasy. This is why the cream is able to plump up the outer layers of your skin so well! The result is a great smoothing and glowy skin effect!

What are the Results?
For me, my skin is well moisturized and feels smoother when I'm using Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. My skin is combination, with dry spots on my cheeks and an oilier T-zone. However, it doesn't overwhelm my combination skin. You can see my skin above, right after I've washed my face and then about 5 minutes after applying the cream. Notice that the lines, especially right under my eyes, are much less visible almost immediately.

If you want more results, the Good Housekeeping Institute performed their own independent testing, and they found that Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream outperformed 10 top prestige creams, including one that cost $440. Their testing was well done, it was a blinded consumer study with the participants not knowing what cream they were using. They collected more than 10,000 hydration measurements!

• Olay's hydration was the best of the creams at the 3 hour time point. It had moisturized 400% better than a cream nearly 18 times its price and beat all other products tested.
• Olay increased moisture by 50% on average over a 24-hour period.
• In blinded tests, 80% of the participants preferred the feeling of Olay over the other creams. They reported that it felt "rich" without being heavy.
• Based on testing, they found that Olay Regenerist improved skin's texture by 10% in just four weeks.

• 1 day: reduces the appearance of lines, boosts hydration and brightness
• 2 weeks: Skin is noticeably firmer and skin elasticity is improved
• 4 weeks: Wrinkle appearance is improved

Who is it Best For?
It works for pretty much everyone. Whether your skin is dry or oily, the moisture in Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream just works. It soothes and hydrates my dry areas and it doesn't overwhelm my oily T-zone. I've used this cream in the middle of the winter and in the summer, both with great results. Because the active ingredients are all non-irritating and soothing, this is a cream that you can easily use every day to fight premature aging and get glowy skin. I love that it's at a price point that works for every budget.

How Does It Fit Into a Skincare Routine?
I especially love to recommend Micro-Sculpting Cream when someone is completely overwhelmed by anti-aging skincare. There are so many products out there, and it is very easy to get overwhelmed by gimmicky ingredients which have minimal evidence supporting anti-aging benefits. This is the perfect product to build an anti-aging skincare routine around.

In my ideal world, an "easy" anti-aging skincare routine includes:
• Sunscreen: Use it every day, look for broad spectrum coverage with at least SPF 30. Dermatologists all agree, this is the number one way to fight premature aging.
• Retinoid: There are many different retinoids, they are derivatives of Vitamin A. They'll increase cell turnover, improve your skin tone and have a lot of evidence supporting reversal of fine lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, even the over the counter versions can be very irritating to skin; and they aren't safe to use while pregnant.
• Peptides: Increase collagen production without irritating your skin.
• Anti-oxidants: Fight free radicals by neutralizing them before they cause damage to your skin.
• Hyaluronic Acid: Yes, a moisturizer. This is my favorite moisturizing ingredient to look for in skin care, it doesn't feel heavy and makes my skin well hydrated. Yes, it makes me look younger and it works almost immediately.

You'll notice that Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream checks 3 of those 5 boxes with just one product. It is the perfect product to build an anti-aging skincare routine around. Just add a broad spectrum sunscreen and a retinoid product, and you're set! Since retinoids can be irritating, especially when starting to use them, it is best to use them every other night and work your way up to every night if possible, layering it over a moisturizer to decrease irritation.

My usual recommendation to friends and family is to buy the Micro-Sculpting Cream, add a light sunscreen product each morning, and a retinol. Start the retinol every other night over Micro-Sculpting Cream, increase to every night when you are able.

I know what you're thinking. "Really, do we need yet another face wipe? Are they even any good?" While I go in and out of love with most facial wipes, these ones are different! With most makeup wipes, you are simply wiping your face, and hope that all of your makeup is removed. I promise you that your face gets just as clean (actually, I thought mine was cleaner), but you'll save a bit of time with fewer steps. Instead of needed my cleanser, an eye makeup remover and an exfoliator each time I wash my face, I only need the cloth. It even leaves Olay conditioners on your skin after rinsing, so my face doesn't feel tight and uncomfortable after washing.

The first thing to notice is that the Daily Facials are actually fairly large. They are dry, you just wet them and the textured wipe lathers up really well. The picture here actually doesn't do it justice, some of the lather was dripping down the back of my hand by the time I had my camera ready! You just scrub your face with the wipe, and it removes absolutely everything. You can even see that it took off my waterproof mascara and liner! Since the wipe has a little bit of texture, it helps to remove all of the makeup and dirt from the skin. I like to rinse off the wipe and then use it again to help rinse off my face as well. After using the daily facial, my skin is super smooth and clean! I'm mostly using these wipes in the middle of the afternoon. They're perfect for removing makeup before working out or swimming. I admit that I usually clean my face, apply sunscreen, and then spend the rest of the day without makeup #nomakeuprequired. The Daily Facials don't dry out my face at all! My skin feels a bit hydrated, so I don't even need to apply a moisturizer.

Olay Daily Facials come in a plastic case, but refill boxes are available (those refills have 2 cases worth of wipes). Daily Facials come in two types, one for normal/oily skin and the other for normal skin. I have tried both, but with my combination skin I haven't noticed that one works better than the other. Because all of the cleanser is within the towelette, these are absolutely perfect for on the go! They'll save a ton of space in your TSA 3-1-1 bag, or can easily be included in your gym bag.

My Pool Beauty Must Haves

Now that summer is here, we're spending a lot of time at the pool here at my house! Which means a few changes to my beauty routine. We tend to spend an hour or two in the pool in the late afternoon or early evening, rather than the full day. So, I've modified my basic every day routine with a few product swap outs that let me look like my "normal" self, but are pool friendly. I do this pretty much all summer long, since I don't always know which days we will (or won't) get in the pool. And of course there are days that the weather looks like it will be terrible on my weather app, but then it's amazing. So, I still have days where I'm in the pool, without waterproof mascara. Oops!

Makeup

The main swap outs that I make for my makeup are things that run and make me look like a raccoon. I also like to still have some concealer under my eyes, since I'm on call and not always getting a lot of sleep I like to keep my undereye circles covered!

I honestly don't worry too much about my brows, I still just apply my normal stuff (usually this It Cosmetics pencil or my favorite Chanel brow powder). None of the brow products seem to run in the pool, they just fade away on their own.

For the rest of my face, I've tried a lot of different waterproof bronzers, shadows, etc. There are a few that do stay put, but I admit that I don't really feel like they're necessary. I don't expect to have a perfect face of makeup when I get out of the pool, but I do not want to look like a raccoon!

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner (buy it at Nordstrom, Chanel, Macy's or Neiman Marcus): After trying out a ton of waterproof liners, this one is my current favorite for a traditional pencil liner. It smudges and looks just like a non-waterproof version, but it stays put longer than my previous favorite (which is pretty close and less expensive, but when you're doing this every day you want to splurge!) If you want a liquid liner, this is my favorite.

Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara (get it at Nordstrom, Chanel or Macy's): Yes, I've tried all of the other waterproof mascaras. Yes, I've likely tried your favorite. Yes, I've tried them all from the drugstore. And the department store. And ULTA. And Sephora. This is the only waterproof mascara that comes close to the Chanel. Why is is so much better? All of the other waterproof mascaras manage to not melt off of my lashes, but they don't look the same after swimming. The Chanel makes my lashes look just as amazing before and after swimming! Swimming is much harder on waterproof mascara than crying at a wedding, so many of the others are great, just not my favorites for swimming. Note, you can watch the Chanel section of RueLaLa for a deal, it shows up there maybe once or twice each month.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Concealer (from Sephora, ULTA, QVC): This is one of my favorite undereye concealers. It's also the one that stays put the best while swimming.

Hair

I pretty much gave up on trying to keep my hair dry while swimming a long time ago. Even if I'm not getting dunked, my kids splash enough that I get pretty wet. I typically just swim and do my thing, then take a shower that night before I head to bed. I use a clarifying shampoo roughly once a week, and I try to use hair masks that hydrate at least once a week as well. I'm not currently drying my hair at night, instead I'm using an air drying product and just going to bed, letting my perm leave my hair a bit wavy. If I want my hair to be curly rather than wavy, I'll dry my hair a little bit at the roots, and then put in the Sleep Styler curlers.

Oribe The Cleanse Clarifying Shampoo (at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's or BirchBox): Read my full Oribe The Cleanse Clarifying Shampoo review. I haven't tried this to take the green out of my daughters' blonde hair. I've tried a huge array of swimming shampoos on them, and my best results have been this shampoo.

Redken No Blow Dry Bossy Cream (buy it at ULTA or Amazon): I use about the size of a quarter. I've also had great results with this cream or this air dry mousse.

Sleep Styler (at their site or QVC): You can check out my Sleep Styler review. I mostly use the smaller size currently as my hair is a bit hard to hold curl. I've found they're a little more comfortable at night than the original size as well.

Skincare

Since I'm mostly jumping in the pool without any special prep immediately before, it's important that I have a good SPF in my morning skincare routine. I aim for at least SPF 30, and I prefer SPF 50 or higher if I can find it. One the rare day that I'm not prepared for swimming (aka- I'm not wearing waterproof eye makeup), I've been really loving the Olay Daily Facials for quickly removing everything from my face and then I'll apply fresh sunscreen before heading out to the pool.

Kate Somerville Daily Deflector Waterlight Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ (buy it at Kate Somerville, Sephora or DermStore): I love this light sunscreen alone or under makeup.

Olay Daily Facials (at Amazon or ULTA): Great for removing all of my makeup before getting in the water! Note, I do have an upcoming sponsored post on these cleansing towelettes, but I had already purchased them on my own prior to Olay asking me to post about them.

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sensitive (buy it at Amazon or Target): This is my sunscreen of choice for my body, since others tend to flare up my eczema.

Have you heard the buzz about Erborian's BB and CC Creams yet? It seems like I hear about them every time I turn around, and I have to say that after trying out the brand, I can understand why. Erborian has replaced all of my other BB Creams (previously I've cycled between It Cosmetics, YSL and Dior), as it is just the right amount of coverage and a great match for my skin. I've tried it out in both the tube and cushion compact forms (both are great, but they're not identical), and I've also fallen for their Glow Creme.

Read on to learn more about each of the products!

Note that all of these products come in only a few shades, all of my products are in the lightest shade, Clair. Yes, there really is a difference between the BB Crème and BB Crème Cushion Compact in their shade, I was surprised by how different they looked. Note that despite this, they both work well on my skin. I think this is because they're more of a light to medium coverage, and enough of my own skin shows through that they are still a decent match and don't need to be quite so exact.

Erborian BB Crème
This is their original BB Cream, and it's my current favorite. It has a light level of moisturization, which is just perfect for my combination skin in the warmer weather. The light to medium coverage is a little bit buildable, but really it's just the right amount of coverage to cover up imperfections, but you can't really tell that it is anything but great looking skin. I also don't need to blend it at all!

Also included in the formulation are a sunscreen (SPF 20, it does provide full spectrum coverage as seen below), licorice root to help hyperpigmentation, vitamin E (an antioxidant), and magnesium (there's a great recap of magnesium in skin care on Omorovicza's website).

I've been reaching for this BB Cream nonstop lately, I've almost gone through an entire tube! It's already in my Sephora cart for a repurchase.

Liquid BB Crème Au Ginseng Cushion Compact

I'm a big fan of cushion compact foundations (my favorite is Lancome, but the Maybelline is a near dupe), and also BB Creams. Put the 2 together? Yes, let's try it!

So yes, this really is just like the other BB Cream, but a little thinner. I apply it with the included puff for light coverage, but I can swap to a foundation brush if I want a heavier application. I apply it just like I would a cushion compact foundation, but the added hydration does make a difference over a foundation.

It did take a while before I figured out why I would want a BB cream that it in both a tube and a cushion compact, and I think the answer is portability and reapplication. With the cushion compact's sponge applicator, it's easy to reapply if I need it, but without disrupting all of my makeup or getting my hands dirty. Just a little pat on the troubled spot, and my skin looks great again!

Glow Crème Illuminating Face Cream

So yes, this is yet another strobing, glowy, shimmery highlighting cream. I'm a sucker for these, and I have tried a lot of them. Often I don't even mention them on the blog, instead the products are just quietly given away to friends. Not this one!

I admit that I'm adding just a pea sized amount of this glow creme to the BB cream, to my foundation, sometimes I'm just putting a little of this into some regular moisturizer and wearing it alone. And no, it doesn't look like I'm covered in glitter. Somehow it makes me look glowy and lit from within.

Back in March, I shared my favorite drugstore hair products, and I was pretty surprised by how many I really do use! I think of myself as a hair product snob, I often spend a lot of money on my hair, and I don't feel remotely guilty about it. But, I've slowly collected quite a few drugstore price point hair products, and I reach for them all the time. Often instead of much more expensive products!

One of my absolute favorites is this dry shampoo from Herbal Essences, which I felt deserved a full blog post in addition to the mention in the drugstore round up. Here's what I said about it in the post:

I just got this dry shampoo, and I'm obsessed! Expect a full post on just this dry shampoo soon! It does a great job of soaking up oils, it does add a lot of volume, and it doesn't look powdery at all on my hair. But the best part really is the smell! Hands down, this is the best dry shampoo ever. Ever. I have no idea what Mosa Mint is, but to me this dry shampoo has some peach scent, more like a sophisticated white peach. I love that!

Since that post, I've finished one can of the dry shampoo and I'm on to a second one. Yes, I repurchased it. Actually, I bought 2 cans, 1 to use and 1 as a back up. I do not want to run out!

After using this dry shampoo for a while, I still love it. Yes, it smells absolutely amazing. No, it doesn't turn my hair white, even when I use a lot of it. It does soak up quite a bit of oil, but my hair still has nice shine. Just, not too much shine from being oily, if that makes sense.

One thing that I really have noticed is that this is a volumizing dry shampoo. This dry shampoo adds more texture and "grit" than others, adding a lot of volume to my hair, which I love because I sometimes have issue keeping styles in my hair due to how silky it can be. That also means that you can really feel the product in there, but really.... if you've styled your hair you shouldn't be running your fingers through it all the time anyways!

This dry shampoo is one that I've been telling everyone about! If your hair is fine, needs added volume, or oily, you should grab one the next time you're at the store. You won't regret it!

Have you seen these? I've overlooked them for a looong time at the drugstore. When I shouldn't have. It took CoverGirl sending them to me (for a sponsored post in the fall) for me to really notice them. You can check out that sponsored post here, but they've been quietly sitting here on my vanity, being used frequently, ever since. Because they're kind of amazing.

One of the first things you might notice is that they look a bit... familiar? They remind me a lot of the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish and Mineralize Blush. I don't use a lot of MAC face products, but anything marbleized with shimmery metallic screams "MINERALIZE" to me. There's a reason those MAC products have stuck around for so long, is that they're just so pretty. Super pretty, they make you glowy, they last all day... you get the picture. They're classics for a reason.

These CoverGirl TruBlends do remind me a lot of the Mineralize products, though they are a little less pigmented and they don't last quite as long. Think 10 hours instead of 12-14 hours. But, they are just as pretty. And they cost a fraction of the MAC products.

bronze, light rose, deep mauve
One thing to notice is that the bronzer is pretty golden, and all three do have a subtle shimmer that is just enough to catch the light and look glowy. This means that you'll get a great sunkissed look with this bronzer, but it wouldn't work for contouring. As well, even though I'm pretty fair, I mostly use the deep mauve color. With a slightly larger blush brush, this gives me a very pretty look!
