Free application from the maker of Comic Life, Plasaq. Skitch basically helps upload and share your image on www.skitch.com. I usually use it when troubleshooting with clients, I give them proper screenshot, drag it to Mail. Skitch also can upload your photo to Flickr or .Mac!

Split&Concat

Sometimes you find a bunch of files with extension MyabiOzawa.mpg.001, MyabiOzawa.mpg.002, MyabiOzawa.mpg.003, ect, and don’t know what to do with ‘em, use Split&Concat. You can split large files to be uploaded or to put together split files downloaded from the Internet.

Dropbox

If you don’t have enough money to have a .Mac account, you may try it. Dropbox is an application to store and share you files. You don’t need to worry about sync, because it works automatically in the background. It helps me a lot when switching device from office and home without worrying to forget bring a flashdisk. FYI, you got 2 gigs of diskspace.

Tilt-Shift, actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift.

Movements have been available on view cameras since the early days of photography. Nikon introduced a lens providing shift movements for their 35 mm SLR cameras in the mid 1960s and Canon introduced a lens that provided both tilt and shift movements in 1973 many other manufacturers soon followed suit. Canon and Nikon each currently offer several lenses that provide both movements. Such lenses are frequently used in architectural photography to control perspective, and in landscape photography to get an entire scene sharp.

Some photographers have popularized the use of tilt for selective focus in applications such as portrait photography. The selective focus that can be achieved by tilting the plane of focus is often compelling because the effect is different from that to which many viewers have become accustomed. Walter Iooss Jr. of Sports Illustrated, Vincent Laforet, Ben Thomas, and many other photographers have images using this technique on their web sites.

There are two ways to create tilt-shift photo. First, using proper lense, example: Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L.

Second, using Photoshop. This is the fun part, because you don’t need to spend $1,150 for special lens to create tilt-shift photo. What you have to prepare is a photo that taken from height. Like this:

1. Masking

Select [Lasso Tool] with Feather: 50 - 100, mask you main area and then invert the selection: [Select] - [Inverse].

2. Blur Effect

Select [Filter] - [Blur] - [Gaussian Blur] and adjust radius

Once get blur effect, click [OK] and then remove selection by [Select] - [Deselect]

3. Make More Realistic

Increase contrast and saturation. This is depend on your need, if you have other better idea it would be good

4. Result

It’s fun! ^^

Mattijn Franssen from Netherland, an artist with amazing artworks. He makes oil paintings, illustrations, photomontages, animations and songs!

At first time, I really amazed with his photomontages on Flickr. Photomontage is the process (and result) of making a composite photograph by cutting and joining a number of other photographs. The composite picture was sometimes photographed so that the final image is converted back into a seamless photographic print *

I have great opportunity to get some short interview with him.

I know you from Flickr, amazing photo-montages collection. Why do you like making photo montages ?

I like it because it’s a fast and clean way of working out ideas. An oil painting takes weeks to set up and finish but I can make a montage in a few hours. And its a nice way of “collaging” my days; where did I go (the places I photograph to build my landscapes) what did I see (the buildings, statues and stuff to fill that landscape) and how did I feel (the mood I give to the image)

You make oil paintings, illustrations, animations and produce songs too, wonderful I can see them on your website. When and how did you start making those art stuffs?

I have always made drawings, painting came much later, I made some acryl and water paint works but I made my first oil painting in 2003, I really like animation and would love to explore that a little more, I got a flash sample and tried it but after that never came back to it.

I play guitar and keyboard for 18 years now, I like composing and arranging music it’s something I have always done in between making images and paintings.

I started making photo montages in 2005.

What is your gear (camera, lens, software, ect)?

I have an Olympus SP-320, not a great camera but most of the time good enough for what I want to use it for. And I only use Photoshop CS2.

Your photographer or artist idol

I like many artists but I don’t have an idol, I like the paintings of John Everett Millais a lot and the music of Nick Drake. I am more interested in painters then in photographers.

Your own artwork that you like most

That changes all the time, right now I say November inspired by 14th century oil paintings from the flemish masters the wings i had photographed in the atelier of a taxidermist.

What do you about Paul Rand?

Paul Rand is a senior Graphic Designer. Born in Peretz Rosenbaum, August 15, 1914. He started his career as a freelancer, producing stock images for newspapers or magazines. In age twenties he was producing work that began to garner international acclaim.

The most known of his creativeness is corporate indentities, many of which are still in use. IBM, ABC, Cummins Engine, Westinghouse, and UPS, among many others, owe their graphical heritage to him, though UPS recently carried out a controversial update to the classic Rand design.
