Wednesday  last week was a delightful day by way of the psotman!  One of the things I love about being on etsy as a collector and an artist is the mailing aspect of it... the packaging, the waiting for things, the waiting for things to get to their owners, the reviews and the little extras I get or that I stuff with the orders that I receive.  Last Tuesday, my Heidi Burton finally came to me.  It was wrapped in the envelope which is photographed above.  Here's a close-up of the bonus illustration that Ms. Heidi drew on the packaging:

An original!!!  I love it!  Thank you, Heidi!  I want you to know that I wrapped it back in its original packaging because I am opening it officially on Christmas.  I love the personal note on it.  You're not one of my etsy favorites for nothing!  Thank you, thank you immensely!  

  The number 17 is a splendid number!  This was a birthday gift from yesterday.  Acrylics, oil pastels, charcoal, pages from a vintage dictionary, gel paste, stamps... I wished that it would bring with it many happy returns of the day.  Happy Wednesday to all!
 

They have been through lots of meaningful journeys together, Mildred and her best owl pal.  Mildred is a doll made from polyfil-stuffed canvas.  The canvas was then glued with various pieces of decorative paper.  Molding paste was then applied to her skirt in order to make stamp impressions.  I used a brayer tool to apply paint to the skirt.  Pages from a vintage dictionary, punched in the shape of butterflies and flowers were sewn together to make up her hair piece.  Her face and hair are all hand painted.  So are the details on her dress.  Her owl friend is also made of polyfil-stuffed canvas, with various pieces of decorative paper glued on.  His eyes were cut from pages of a vintage dictionary and decorative paper.  I also incorporated some architectural applique, a keyhole scrapbook detail and a key with the word "journey" inscribed in it.

I made the mistake of not knowing that UPS's over night deliveries end at noon on Saturdays.  Mildred and her owl didn't make it to their destination, but they're on their way there as we speak.   I am hopeful that they get their share of the spotlight there.
