Former NFL Players in Concert This Weekend

Gospel Music Artists Marcus Price and Gino Mingo To Perform in Concert in Greenville

Marcus Price and Gino Mingo are off the football playing field and on the playing field for Christ as a duo named Distinguished. Price played two years each with the San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and the Buffalo Bills and Mingo spent three years in the NFL. The gospel music group was formed three years ago and they are both currently praise and worship leaders at Shoreline Christian Church in San Diego.

Price and Mingo were each planning to do solo projects, but decided that they needed to work as a duo. They carry with them that message that they are men who love to worship God. “We have a genuine love for God through worship,” Price said in a telephone interview from his San Diego home. He views his current career as a singer and musician as a secondary service.

Price said he and Mingo want to inspire children to be the best at anything they want to do in life. “I like spending time with kids,” he said. “I really like to challenge kids. We also like to let them know what we are really down-to-earth people.”

Price said playing professional sports helped prepare him for a life after football. “Believe it or not, this is still the music business, and you still have to deal with a variety of people,” he said. “It takes structure and discipline, all those attributes I learned as an athletes carry over.” Source

Distinguished will be in concert at Reimage Church in Greenville at 6 pm Sunday. The gospel music concert is free.

Christian Hip Hop Artist Shonlock & Arrow Records Make a Deal

Arrow Records Officially Announce The Signing of Gospel Music Rap Artist Shonlock

Deshon Bullock aka gospel hip-hop artist Shonlock, has been signed by Creflo Dollar’s Arrow Records. Shonlock has worked with some of secular and Christian music’s most popular acts, from Aaliyah, Arrested Development, Grammy-nominated duo Grits, Kierra “Kiki” Sheard and Trinitee 5:7 as a dancer, choreographer, and lyricist. He is currently touring with Grammy winner TobyMac.

Now based in Atlanta, Shonlock’s study and hard work with Christian music’s biggest stars have paid off with his highly anticipated new album. Featuring 12 tracks with Shonlock’s creative blend of influences from soul, rock, and hip hop, his new album is sure to make waves in furthering the spiritually-conscious hip hop movement. Grammy-nominated producers David “Da Monsta” Lynch and Ric “Form” Robbins oversee the 12 tracks on the new album, which includes appearances from The Katinas and Trinitee 5:7.

Creflo Dollar Presents Heart of God Change

Gospel Music Album From Creflo Dollar & Arrow Records Break Through Traditional Barriers

Gospel recording artists featured on this project come together to combine very different styles of gospel music. According to Creflo Dollar, Arrow artist, DeLeon, is a melodic worshipper. Her unique delivery leads people into a place of seeking more of God.

Jonathan Phillips, has a unique sound Dollar describes as, “flavorful rhythm and praise,” which is a unique combination of Christian rock and progressive pop. Arrow’s newest artist, Jordan Dollar, appeals broadly to teens and young adults alike. “Jordan is a bridge for young people from traditional to contemporary worship and praise,” says Creflo Dollar. “I call it ‘life music.’”

Arrow artist, Dorsey Hammond, is a gifted pianist, songwriter, and also the Minister of Music at World Changers Church International. “Dorsey’s music is a propelling force of rhythmic and harmonic freedom that excites and challenges listeners to come into deep fellowship with God. And this is the goal of the Heart of God CD: to combine the various styles which will bring people to a level of authentic, heartfelt praise, and worship toward God.”

Creflo Dollar himself also delivers a song on the album. He ministers the Word of God “on top of music” as yet another way to inspire and draw people to God and to church. Dollar believes gospel music lovers will be particularly moved by the track, “Oh Lord Most High,” which he says sets a tone and atmosphere that ushers in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Yolanda Adams & Pine Forge Academy Choir To Perform

Gospel Music Sweetheart Yolanda Adams to Perform at ALC Prayer Breakfast

Grammy Award winning gospel music singer Yolanda Adams and The Pine Forge Academy Choir of Pine Forge, Pennsylvania will perform at the 39th Annual Legislative Conference during the Prayer Breakfast. The ALC Prayer Breakfast is scheduled from 7-10 a.m., on Saturday, September 26th on the final day of the ALC. Previous artists featured at the ALC Prayer breakfast include gospel music singers Maurette Brown Clark, Byron Cage, and Tramaine Hawkins.

Yolanda won a Grammy Award in 2000 for her platinum album Mountain High…Valley Low. Since experiencing tremendous success with this album, Ms. Adams went on to further produce inspiring gospel music that has continued to reach the top of the U.S. music charts. Most recently she has started her own radio show, Yolanda Adams In The Morning, which airs on urban gospel stations around the country.

The Pine Forge Academy Choir consists of dedicated young men and women from ages 13 through 18. The Choir is noted for its full, rich and harmonious quality, proclaim God’s goodness through spirituals, anthems, classical and gospel music.

Mississippi Gospel Music Awards To Be Held This Weekend

The 31st Mississippi Gospel Music Awards will be held Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 5 pm at the Marriott Hotel in Jackson. This years’ honorees include The Pilgrim Jubilees, Dorothy Norwood, and the Jackson Southernaires. Awards will be presented in 28 different categories and there will be five Gospel Awards showcase winners.

Brian Courtney Wilson, whose new album Just Love is Number 3 on the Top Gospel Albums chart, and The Brown Boyz will be performing.

I’m pretty new to The Brown Boyz and of course had to do a little research. According to their myspace page, they are from Freeport, Long Island, New York and their group was formed in 1982 under the management of Deaconess Anna Brown and the late Willie Brown Sr. They have performed on the Bobby Jones Show and at gospel music retreats and showcases.

Check out the video for “I Wanna Love Like That” which is on the Harvest Time CD, released on June 2, 2009. Love the white suits and the Obama reference in the video! This is one gospel music album that I gotta add to my ipod.

This post started off talking about the Gospel Music Awards but got a little sidetracked.  Well, I guess you get two for one. Another gospel music awards show to attend and new gospel music to listen to.

Gospel Music Artists Kick Off Largest Free Citywide Performing Arts Festival in New York

If you are (or will be)  in New York and you are looking for something to do to start your holiday weekend off with a bang, look no further than Von King Park in Brooklyn at 7 pm on Thursday, July 2nd.  Gospel music artists Coko, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, and Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson will be perfoming. Coko will be singing some songs from The Winner in Me due July 14th and Youthful Praise will be sharing from Resting on His Promise due September 11th.

The trio of performing arts festivals - CityParks Concerts, CityParks Dance and CityParks Theater, presented by Time Warner provides top music, dance and theater acts in parks throughout all five boroughs of New York City free of charge.  With over 75 free performances, and a great diversity of talent in the summer lineup, there is something for every New Yorker to enjoy.

Other gospel music artists to perform at the festival are Hezekiah Walker on August 20th at Marcus Garvey Park in Manhattan, Heather Headley on August 6th, and James Fortune & Trin-i-tee 5:7 on August 13th both at Springfield Park in Queens.

Looks like a great time will be had in NYC this summer. Visit City Parks Foundation for the full schedule. I see the Sugar Hill Gang will be performing  in Queens on July 14th. That’s a blast from the past!

New Gospel Music From Christian Rapper Mr. Del

The new album from Mr. Del, a former member of rap group Three 6 Mafia, is titled Thrilla although it was named that months before the King of Pop died. According to Mr. Del, the title is an acronym for The Real Anointing, the overcoming of obstacles and finding redemption through Christ. The new gospel music album is available now for purchase.

According to Commercial Appeal, Mr. Del has been on the solo tip since mid-2000 and recently signed a deal with Universal Music Christian Group to put out his own label, Dedicated Music Group, which will focus on urban and gospel hip-hop music.

Mr. Del, whose government name is Delmar Lawrence, is from Memphis and wants to represent his city to the fullest. “I want to represent Memphis music, the real heart and Christian soul of what we have going on here. I want to continue the legacy and distribute the awesome spirit of this city to the world.”

Mr. Del has his own hip-hop congregation, City of Refuge, which meets at at 1 pm on Sundays in Cordova.  I’ve never been to a hip-hop church service. Wonder what it’s like?

13 Year Old Rachel Dupard Sings Vicki Yohe

Great Gospel Music From Rachel Dupard

Rachel Dupard is 13 years old and full of talent! At the age of three she was not able to speak correctly because of an inner ear dysfunction. After a recommended surgery she started hemorrhaging and would have died if she had not been rushed back to the hospital to stop the hemorrhaging.

Rachel joined a children’s choir at the age of six and has been singing non-stop since then. She has traveled internationally, opened for the United States Chaplin, and has sung on Broadway.

I loved her rendition of the popular gospel music song “Because of Who You Are” by Vicki Yohe in the video above.
