No real-time Multiplayer games on Windows Phone 7 .. well not during launch at least

joystiq recently interviewed Xbox Live GM Ron Pessner and XNA Game Studio manager Michael Klucher about how games integrate into the mobile platform and what gamers and developers can expect in the future. And when asked about realtime multiplayer games on Windows Phone 7 they gave the following answer

Q : We’ve seen asynchronous multiplayer on the device. Are there any plans to support traditional real-time multiplayer?
A : No, it’s asynchronous, meaning it’s turn by turn. Given the phone is a device that goes in and out of connectivity and has different states. We thought asynchronous multiplayer was the right place to start for the phone platform. We think that’s a very good multiplayer experience and also one that will appeal to a broad set of game types and game players. I think it’s fair to say you could expect to see us consider other multiplayer type scenarios in our road map, but we’re focused on asynchronous multiplayer for the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series.

It is disappointing to learn that Real time Multiplayer wont be present in Windows Phone 7 for launch but I am fairly certain that they will include it in the future. So my hopes for a game like this Eliminate Pro on WP7 has to be put on hold for now.

On a positive note , MS is taking the issue of fragmentation very seriously .. In a perfect world this is what they want to achieve.. We certainly want to see an ecosystem where someone can say “hey, that’s a really cool game, I’d really like to get that,” and no matter what type of Windows Phone 7 Series device I have, I can have that same experience. That’s a very core value.

They also discussed about save states between the platforms, which is not a planned feature.

What is Metro for Windows Phone 7 ?

The new User Interface introduced in Windows Phone 7 Series, you know the one with the live tiles and Hubs, is called “Metro.” Now why is it called Metro? According to WMExperts via Paul Thurrott found the explanation on the Microsoft campus in Redmond.

So Metro is the name of the Design Language used in Windows Phone 7 Series. It dictates the following

A mini custom webserver which allows you to access all your contacts over internet.You can read your messages or send sms to selected contact from the webpage. The SMS will be sent through your mobile phone ( with out having physical access to it )

Use:

You can access your contacts over the Internet, send messages to them remotely from your mobile.
In case you forget your mobile at home and app is not running, just send “Start Server” and it will respond to your command So then just access the website and all your contacts are in front of you.
Worried about your battery. Kill the app from the webpage

Changes in v0.7b(Fixed remote start)
1. Save menu will save the Settings and generate the HTML, removed Update HTML menu.
2. Removed UpdateIP menu, start server will take care of doing that now.
3. HTML page size reduced.
4. Option to send messages to multiple users.(To select Keep CTRL pressed)
5. IP Update will not connect to internet if server is not running.

Close Process – schedule apps to be closed after set amount of time

CloseProcess

Close Process is a windows mobile software that can be used to program a process to be closed after a certain amount of time or closed it right away.

Additional information:
- If both the hours and the minutes are set to 0, the process is closed right away.
- The application can be minimized.
- After a scheduled process is closed, the application closes itself.
- The actions are placed on the buttons and in the menu because I haven’t decided which way is the best
- The application proved to be useful also for closing processes that were not closed properly
- The application has been tested only on my Blackstone
- The application requires Compact Framework 3.5
- If the device is suspended, the application stops running and will resume when the device is awake.

Youtube App for Windows Mobile has been updated, they have added search query suggestions, ‘My Account’ support, and a new homescreen user interface that is optimized for larger screens. Now when you log into your YouTube account on our phone, you can view your favorites, subscriptions and playlists from wherever you are. Let’s say you have recently found a windows mobile game review and favorited it on your desktop PC. When you’re out with your friends all you need to do is launch the YouTube app and go to your “Favorites” to show it to them.

Another feature that we have added is query suggestions. When you type into the YouTube search box, you get relevant suggestions. This saves on typing which is especially useful for mobile phones where text input may be difficult.

Samulos 1.02 – Tetris like game for windows phone

Samulos is a puzzle game, similar to Tetris and Lumines. The player has to make figures from squares in the same colour to make them explode. The explosion is delayed which gives an opportunity to add some more squares to the figure. The smallest figure that explodes has to include at least 2×2 squares (the same colour). To the next level the player has to cause specified amount of explosions.
