The Army Chief of Staff General of the United States Military has made a speech at the Association of the United States Army that might suggest that the United States is gearing up for a stand-off with Russia and China.

General Milley said that while the United States and its major military and political allies had been devoting their attention in recent years to combatting the threat posed by international terrorist groups such as Al-Queda and Islamic State. In this period, countries such as Russia, Iran, China and North Korea have been making the most of the United States’ embroilment in these periphery conflicts and have developed their armies in line with that of America’s. Milley warned that a near-peer conflict would be extremely lethal and could incur casualties for the United States military on a par with the Second World War. However, while he was clear to point out how arduous and difficult the fight against a country like Russia would be for the United States, he was also optimistic about what the outcome would be. He said; “I want to be clear to those who wish to do us harm … the United States military — despite all of our challenges, despite our [operational] tempo, despite everything we have been doing — we will stop you, and we will beat you harder than you have ever been beaten before. Make no mistake about that. We can now and we will … retain the capability to deploy rapidly, and we will destroy any enemy anywhere, any time.”

President Rodrigo Duterte publicly named five police officers allegedly involved in illegal drug trade as he continued to press his never-ending war against corruption.

The 5 generals are the following:

Retired Police Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo, Retired Chief Superintendent Vicente Loot, former Quezon City Police District Director Edgardo Tinio, former National Capital Region Police Office Dir. Joel Pagdilao and Chief Superintendent Bernardo Diaz. Some of the generals were seen with LP during election.

CALLING ROXAS' STRATEGIC AND EFFECTIVE OPLAN LAMBAT SIBAT. STOP DUTERTE'S BLITZKRIEG VIGILANTE KILLING! IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL, ILLEGAL, AND IMMORAL.

Stop Duterte's blitzkrieg vigilante killing that is unconstitutional, illegal, and immoral. Duterte is giving all citizens license to kill on mere suspicion. The poorest among us will be most likely the victims of false arrest and false executions. The rich can buy guns, hire lawyers, and also hire security guards to provide 24 hour protection. The poor will be defenseless victims of brutal violation of their right to due process and just law. When everyone is given by the president license to kill on mere suspicion, a lawless society is created. Is this president in his right mind. We have a killer president who seems to be trigger happy. Kill, kill, kill is his mantra!

Calling Roxas' effective Oplan Lambat Sibat. It was effective in reducing crimes according to PNP! It reduced crimes in Metro Manila by 60% since June 2014 when it was first instituted. The cases of crime came down from 900 to 300 in August 2015. 146 of the 440 most wanted drug suspects were arrested in just 6 weeks!

Why is Oplan Lambat Sibat effective? It employs intensified police intervention like putting up checkpoints; it deploys mobile and foot patrol, and it engages in intelligence-driven operations. Roxas cites the three strategies that Oplan Lambat Sibat engages in-- First, it audits the police blotters; second, it geo-tag crimes by location; and third it concentrates operations in places with the high incidences of crime. With these strategies, everyday, of 900, less than 500 people are not victimized by crime according to reports.

The difference of Roxas Oplan Lambat Sibat and Duterte's Vigilante Killing is that Oplan Lambat Sibat is within the law. It employs only those with professional license and training to deal with crime. It is based on methodic intelligence work, coupled with strategies to effectively reduce crimes. Duterte's vigilante killing is extra judicial-- it is outside of the law-- unconstitutional, illegal, and also immoral. It violates due process and fair trial. It is not based on methodic intelligence work. It is "bara bara".. Just shoot to kill on mere suspicion. And Duterte is giving all citizens license to kill, and certainly includes those who are trigger happy! When crime is used to stop crime, it will only create more crimes and other social problems.

Bring back Roxas' Oplan Lambat Sibat. Strengthen the police and military force; deepen and broaden intelligence work that help locate the places with highest incidences of crimes and drug; deploy more mobile and foot patrol in cities and towns. Get the participation of the community by employing citizens as the eyes and ears of the professional military and police force, but not the carriers of killer guns themselves with license to kill.

Bring back Roxas' Oplan Lambat Sibat, or better still, bring back Roxas! He is the more intelligent, strategic, and effective crime czar than Duterte! And he operates within the law and he does not need emergency powers!

This is my sixth SONA. Once again, I face Congress and our countrymen to report on the state of our nation. More than five years have passed since we put a stop to the culture of “wang-wang,” not only in our streets, but in society at large; since we formally took an oath to fight corruption to eradicate poverty; and since the Filipino people, our bosses, learned how to hope once more. My bosses, this is the story of our journey along the Straight Path.

Just last Friday, we inaugurated the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway. This is the first Public-Private Partnership project that we approved, and the first such PPP project opened to the public under our administration. Under the previous administrations: It was as if the government had to beg the private sector just to gain their participation. Now, companies are the ones seemingly courting the government—for MCX in particular, we were paid a premium of P925 million just so that our private partner could have the privilege of building the infrastructure we need. In fact, they are so confident that this project will earn them a profit, that they said the first month of toll operations at MCX is free.

We have indeed come so far. And, in order for us to appreciate just how far we have travelled, let us recall where we started.

When we came into office, we found a citizenry that had grown desensitized to the many allegations of lying, cheating, and stealing in government.

Manuel Araneta Roxas got the nod of the majority to run for president this coming election 2016. He’s favored by the President Aquino to continue the “Daang Matuwid” that really helped Filipinos uplift their way of thinking in selecting the best person as the new President of the Philippines. He has the capabilities, knowledge, skills, determination and other positive attributes in improving the Philippine economy in the future. He’s a fighter for corruption that will enable to eliminate the bad elements in governance and unite the positive into its administration.

Mar Roxas wants a government that merely conjures economic growth statistics that the Filipinos know to be unreal to a government that prioritizes jobs that empower the people and provide them with opportunities to rise above poverty. These will not only aid against corruption but will be the core thrusts of his governance.

Another point for his outlook’s that making education the central strategy for investing in our people, reducing poverty and building national competitiveness and global presence. Learning the livelihood programs and giving the best education in knowing the facets of employment globally.

Philippine economy will spearhead with Mar Roxas from treating health as just another area for political patronage to recognizing the advancement and protection of public health, which includes responsible parenthood, as key measures of good governance. This will unify the healthy living character of Filipino family that constitutes to the economic broadening in the Philippines. Likewise, it will entails the Filipino people to do more for their productivity as investment culture.

Also, Manuel Araneta Roxas is very determined to apply from justice that money and connections can buy to a truly impartial system of institutions that deliver equal justice to rich or poor. The viability of this concern lies with the Filipino people to inherit the substance that equality exists and that positive result’s always at hand in pursuing the economic freedom.

Further implementation of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, which provides conditional cash incentives and other health and education benefits to the poor. With this, he believes that poverty incidence in the country could be reduced to low level, the improvement on disaster risk reduction and management, supports the passage regarding the Basic Bangsamoro Law and eventually wants to resolve disputes occurring in Mindanao in order to lessen possible negative social consequences.

Lastly, as for political side, Mar Roxas vows to fight corruption, which has become the biggest issue in Philippine politics; and in the Aquino administration, Pork Barrel Scam emerged; but Roxas, in his campaign, promises to make the government efficient again by implementing orders and laws with regards to anti-corruption.

Mar Roxas will focus on foreign direct investment to augment with the modern-style of business engagement for the Filipino people. Other economic thrusts are to focus on tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing for job generation to help uplift the development of the Philippines.

Various fake news sites reported that a lottery winner died after gold-plating his genitals.

"Atlanta Lottery Winner Dies After Gold Plating His Testicles." Seriously, did this really happen?

ORIGINS: In November 2015, a number of fake news sites began sharing articles claiming a lottery winner died after attempting to gold-plate his testicles; Now8News' 28 November 2015 version (titled "Atlanta Lottery Winner Dies After Gold Plating His Testicles") held:

Growing up in a life of poverty, 38-year-old Justin Green saw his hopes and dreams come true when hitting $100 million Georgia lottery last month. Friends reported that Green immediately quit his job at Walmart and made plans for a “better life.” Apparently, his idea of a better life would not be at the top of the list for most lottery winners. As a young man, Green was obsessed with the 2002 movie comedy Goldmember – an Austin Powers parody of the bond movie Goldfinger in which Powers is hunting a criminal mastermind who colors his victims ‘man parts’ in gold.

According to family members, Green went on a shopping spree which included gold and diamond chains, exotic cars, custom gold and diamond “grills” and…. get this…. gold plated genitals. Green approached many people in the gold plating business, however he was turned down by every store owner – Green was warned this was a very dangerous procedure. Green began painting his genitals with lead-based paint, but quickly decided that a simple coloring wasn’t enough – he needed the real gold. To complete the makeshift operation, Green used a professional automotive gold plater that he borrowed from a garage. Unfortunately in the 12 hours following the procedure, Green encountered a series of health issues that ultimately led to his death.

A 19 November 2015 iteration titled "Canadian Jackpot Winner Dies After Attempting To Gold Plate His Balls" appeared on the web site Viral Covert, reporting:

Justin Reiter from Alberta, Canada, died of medical complications after attempting to gold plate his own genitals to celebrate an astonishing $598,556 jackpot win ... Justin started by painting his genitals with a lead-based paint, but quickly decided that a simple coloring wasn’t enough: he needed to take it to the next level, he needed the real gold. To complete the makeshift operation, Reiter used a professional automotive gold plater that he borrowed from a garage. Unfortunately in the twelve hours following the procedure, Justing encountered a series of health issues that ultimately led to his death.

Both iterations featured the same image of a doctor purportedly involved with the fatal incident:

Now8News identified the physician depicted as "Dr. William Rife at Emory University Hospital"; Viral Covert claimed the photo was "Dr Ian Joseffson of the Alberta Community Hospital" (as did an earlier, similar fake news story on the disreputable web site World News Daily Report). Initially, a reverse image search failed to locate that photo elsewhere on the web; upon closer inspection, it was clear that the doctor's photograph was mirrored to inhibit such searching (as evidenced by the embroidery on his jacket):

A search using that image revealed that the photograph of the doctor was swiped from a 12 May 2012 article about a health scare in Tulsa; the physician was correctly identified in that story as "Dr. Michael Smith [of] St. John Health System ER." Similarly, the purported testicle-gilding lottery winner was in fact Polish rapper Popek:

Both World News Daily Report and Now8News are well-known fake news web sites, and the latter bears no disclaimer warning its readers that its content is fabricated. Earlier hoaxes perpetuated by Now8News included claims a man was found having sex with a pig in the bathroom of a Walmart; aborted fetuses were used to make Chicken McNuggets; Walmart bananas were infested with deadly parasitic worms; KFC was found breeding mutated chickens; a woman was arrested after engaging in a sex act with a breakfast sausage; a separate woman was arrested for "trying on" feminine hygiene products at Walmart; a man fed the remains of his unfaithful fiancee to her parents; and a man was discovered cannibalizing a teen inside a haunted house attraction.

UNITED NATIONALIST DEMOCRATIC FILIPINO ORGANIZATION (UNIDO) was the main political multi-party electoral alliance of the traditional political opposition during the turbulent years of our country under the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos in the mid-1980s. It was formed in January 1980, and was originally known as the United Democratic Opposition from 1980 to 1982. The genesis of UNIDO was to foster the marriage of convenience between two erstwhile formidable opposition of Liberal and Nacionalista Party, under the joint leadership of Late Senator Gerardo Roxas (Liberal), the father of Senator Mar Roxas and Speaker Jose “Pepito” Laurel (Nacionalista), father of Jose B. Laurel, Jr., the President of this Party now. But the untimely death of Senator Roxas, the party disregarded the previous dual leadership arrangement and made Senator Salvador Doy Laurel, the brother of Speaker Laurel as the new sole President.

As early as 1980, former Senator, assemblyman and late Vice-President Salvador Laurel of Municipality of Tanauan, Province of Batangas had been working hard to organize a united opposition party to the martial law regime of President Marcos.

The Political leaders forming UNIDO such as prominent anti-marcos leaders such as Senator Sotero Laurel, Speaker Jose Laurel Jr., former Senator and Camarines Sur assemblyman Edmundo Cea, former President Diosdado Macapagal, Zamboanga City Mayor Cesar Climaco, Senator Gerardo Roxas, Assemblyman Lito Atienza, Antique Governor Evelio Javier, Mandaluyong Assemblyman Neptali Gonzales, Pampanga Governor Jose Lingad, Senator John Osmena, Senator Dominador Aytona, Senator Lorenzo Tanada, Senator Eva-Estrada-Kalaw, Senator Rene Espina, Senator Mamintal Tamano, Senator Domocao Alonto, Assemblyman Raul Gonzales, Assemblyman Homobono Adaza, former collegian editor-in-chief and leftist Abe Sarmiento, and all significant personalities that contributed to the fall of the Marcos dictatorship. Late Vice President Laurel was able to put together under the United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO) many anti-marcos political personalities from the NP, LP, PDP-Laban, Bicol-Saro, and the Mindanao Alliance. In 1984, UNIDO won one-third of the seats in the first regular Batasang Pambansa despite massive cheating and election rules designed to favor the administration party.

UNIDO was the opposition’s potent umbrella organization in the 80’s under Senator Salvador Hidalgo Laurel audacious tutelage, cobbling together desperate opposition groups seeking to remove the late Ferdinand Marcos from power through peaceful means. The UNIDO despite its limited resources, managed to win the elections entirely dominated by KBL candidates. From makeshift stages and rallies in Plaza Miranda, UNIDO under Salvador Laurel leadership became the people’s sounding board against the repressive regime and thereafter in 1985, UNIDO came out of its cocoon and became a full grown opposition party with capabilities of destroying the manacles of dictatorship.

UNIDO gained momentum in the last week of November 1985, when the late President Ferdinand Marcos called for a presidential election due to mounted political pressures. At first, UNIDO supported Senator Salvador Laurel as its standard bearer, but the late Chino Roces was not convinced that laurel or Jovito Salonga could defeat the strongman in the polls. Roces argued that Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino, the widow of assassinated Senator Benigno Aquino, should be the candidate for President. Thereafter, Roces initiated the Cory Aquino for President Movement (CAPM) to gather one million signatures in one week to urge Aquino to run as President.
Later, however, it was Cory who became the opposition’s banner holder. Senator Salvador Laurel peacefully acceded and slides to the vice presidency, living what his father late President Jose P. Laurel reared to be, it was not surprising that Doy faithfully followed, “ANG BAYAN, HIGIT SA LAHAT.”

The campaign was made in the month of Januay 1986, for the February elections. The tandem of Cory-Doy was officially lost the election to Marcos-Tolentino tandem but the elections were widely believed to be fraudulent. Both Marcos and Aquino claimed to have won the election, and held separate inaugurations on February 25, but because of the disappointment of the Filipino people, a popular revolution ensued that compels the late strongman to flee the country. After the February revolution, Cory and Doy were catapulted to power as President and Vice-President respectively.

UNIDO was dissolved after the 1987 legislative and General Elections, when new parties were formed and parties went to their own separate ways. UNIDO was revived in 2010 purposely to participate in the Party-List System of election in 2013 but was prevented by few legal obstacles to file a Petition for Registration under the Party-list System.

From the organization’s revival on 0ctober 24, 2010 until the present, UNIDO has involved itself in community activities especially workshop to push its advocacies and champion the fundamental rights of the people especially those from the CALABARZON areas. Among UNIDO’s accomplishments, projects and programs are the following:

1.) In coordination with Cavite City Mayor Romeo G. Ramos it rendered and conducted a workshop and seminar concerning the right to shelter, the policies and programs being undertaken by the government and about establishing and developing strategies that will address the housing problems of the residents of Cavite City;

2.) UNIDO held medical and dental missions in Lipa City in coordination with Mayor Meynard A. Sabili;

3.) The organization also rendered a feeding program and provided assistance to malnourished children in Brgy. Lankaan, Dasmarinas City;

4.) UNIDO wrote a letter to certain members of the House Of Representatives to enact a bill pertaining to strengthen the Residential Free Patent law;

5.) UNIDO also conducted a seminar on paralegal training of the residents of Brgy. Marinig, Cabuyao, laguna giving them update and proposed strategies on how to avail a residential free patent on unregistered alienable lands of public domain.

6.) UNIDO conducted a tree planting project to preserve and protect our ecology.

By reason of the afore-mentioned accomplishments and assistance in pursuing the above projects, UNIDO was made a recipient of several certificates of appreciation and recognition and notable of which are:

(1.) DANGAL NG BAYAN AWARDEE presented by the PEOPLE’S CHOICE during its 35th awarding in Camp Aguinaldo AFP THEATER on December 16, 2014;

(3.) Certificate of Recognition awarded by Damayan Bigkis Pagkakaisa Association, Inc. given on 12 December 2011;

(4.) Recognition Award given by the Municipal Government of Mataas na kahoy, Batangas issued on 06 March 2011;

(5.) Certificate of Appreciation awarded by the PCUP Relocation Site Lupang Pangako Homeowners Association, Inc. on 25 October 2012;

(6.) Certificate of Appreciation awarded by Lakas at Pag-asa Neighborhood Association, of Dasmarinas Cavite Inc. on 24 March 2011;

(7.) Certificate of Recognition awarded by the KMNAY Village Homeowners Association, Inc. given on 26 November 2011;

(8.) Certification of Recognition awarded by the Urban Poor Council of Cabuyao, given on 17 December 2014;

(9.) Certificate of Recognition given by the Purok Dulong Calmar Lucena City Neighborhood Association, Inc. on 10 December 2012;

Italy Warns Terror Alert After Paris Attacks #1MNews

Italy has raised its terror alert after the attacks in Paris on Friday night, in which at least 128 people were killed and 200 were injured - including two Italians - amid a threat that Rome will be targeted next.

Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said that the national committee on order and public security would meet on Saturday.

Within hours of the attacks in Paris, Isis supporters took to Twitter to gloat about the atrocity and claim that “London, Washington DC and Rome” are next on the list.

Ansa reported that two Italians were injured in the shootings and bombings which took place at six locations across Paris, including the famous Bataclan concert hall and the Stade de France, where a friendly match between Germany and France was taking place.

The news agency also said an Italian girl was missing.

Rome, particularly the Vatican, has received persistent threats from Isis group over the past year.

Italy's premier was among the first world leaders to condemn the attacks.

“By striking France they strike the whole of humanity and Italy stands by France's side,” he said at a press conference on Saturday morning.

“Like all Italians I know that the terrorists won't win.”

Following the attacks, the Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has postponed his visit to Italy and France.

Rouhani was due to arrive in Rome on Saturday.

Pope Francis on Saturday said he was "shaken" by what he described as the "inhuman" attacks on a string of Paris venues.

"I am shaken, I don't understand these things, done by human beings...There cannot be justification, religious or human. It's inhuman," an emotional pontiff pope said during a telephone interview with TG2000 television.

Grappling to find the right words, the Pope added: "I am with all those with suffer, and with France, which I love so much."

Italy is also on high alert ahead of the year-long Holy Jubilee of Mercy, which gets underway on December 8th.

Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi addressed concerns about safety for pilgrims heading to Rome for the event.

Millions of Christians are expected to travel to the Holy See.

"These murderers, possessed by a crazed hatred, are justly called terrorists because they want to spread terror," Lombadi said.

"If we let ourselves be scared, they will have attained their main objective," he said, calling on followers to show "courage and resist the temptation of fear."

Italy’s anti-terrorism chief Giuseppe Governale said on Thursday that the threat of a terrorist attack during the event cannot be completely eliminated, despite efforts by authorities to lower the risk.

“There is constant monitoring of those people who operate clandestinely and become radicalized but this does not eliminate the risks...No one is able to eliminate them.”

His comments came on the day police announced a sting on a European ‘jihadist network’ that was allegedly planning to kidnap diplomats and carry out attacks to try to spring its leader out of detention in Norway.

Seventeen arrest warrants were issued and 13 people were detained in Italy, Britain and Norway, according to Eurojust, the EU's Judicial Cooperation Unit.

9 Reasons Organizations Do Not Train Their Leaders #1MNews

There are hundreds of companies large and small that offer services to help leaders grow and get greater results, ours included. This means there is a large market of organizations that look for, secure and use these services to equip their leaders to become more effective. There are many more organizations that create and provide leadership development activities for internal use.

Yet for every organization (or department or regional office) that does value and develop their leaders, there are many more who don't.

Today I share with you some of the reasons I have heard, and more accurately the reasons that are unspoken, as to why so many provide so little to support the development of their leaders. Taken individually, they have merit. Put together, they paint a picture of excuses - because most everyone would agree that leaders can be developed and most feel their leaders could improve, yet, many don't take any action at all.

Here are nine reasons/excuses for this situation.

It costs too much, isn't in the budget. The top of this hit parade is usually money. This reason/excuse is really two in one. The budget is an outgrowth of another item on this list (it isn't a priority). Budgeting is really just a prioritization tool. By default, the things we do spend money on are deemed as more important than those we don't. Yes, I know there are seasons or situations in the life cycle of a business where funds really are tight - but that is rarely the real reason. The "costs too much" cousin isn't always about money alone either; it is often more about the next item on the list...

Leadership training doesn't work. Lots of people have gone to leadership training or sent people to leadership training and seen few (if any) results or results that were far too temporary in nature. The training could well be part of the problem, but is seldom all of it. If we want to develop leaders, we must do more than training, and training is part of what is required. The fact is leadership training (or any training for that matter) won't work alone - the participant must work too.

Our leaders are doing ok. This is the complacency argument. Things are fine. We don't have any major problems. That is certainly a better place to be than having lots of leadership challenges, but is fine really what you are aspiring to? Consider this: when leaders become more effective it has a ripple effect across the team, spreading greater productivity and a host of better results. If okay is good enough, fine. But I'm betting that isn't what you really want.

If you select correctly, you don't have to do more training. There are two problems with this reason/excuse: many organizations select leaders based on technical skill or knowledge, rather than leadership skill, and leadership requires a complex set of skills that can't be mastered quickly. Selection is important, but even perfect selection leaves newly promoted leaders with new skill gaps and opportunities for growth.

We are too busy to do (leadership) training. And one of the reasons we are too busy is that our leaders are spending time putting out fires, or doing too much of the work themselves, rather than coaching and supporting process improvement. Training requires time (though there are some ways to manage the learning process more effectively), and that time spent can be seen as an investment, to reduce future busyness. When leaders lead, they are preventing fires, which change the amount and nature of the work for everyone.

I figured it out, so can they. This is the hazing mentality. Did you figure it out soon enough and fast enough? Just because you survived it, does that make it the best way to prepare the next leaders?

It is important, but it isn't at the top of our priority list.€ This is a cousin to several others on the list. And even if people aren't saying this, through their actions, it is the fact. In the short term, or for a particular time period, this may be a wise choice. However, if leadership training never makes it up the list, the perils and risks to the organizations current and future health are significant.

We have some internal supervisory/leadership training.If so, congratulations! My question would be, are you allowing your internal trainers to really help people build leadership skills, or just teach the policies, procedures and laws? Keeping leaders aware of policy and keeping them (and you) out of jail is important, but leadership is far more than that. If you are delivering internal training, make sure it is delivering what you really need.

We focus on development of middle (or senior) managers. Organizations that invest in leaders at any level are making a great investment. If that is you, congratulations! And, why would we want leaders at other levels to flounder or have challenges? Consider investing in leaders at all levels. Why do I share this? My hope is that some will read this and see themselves in some of these words and decide to move past these and take some tangible action. Lastly, I hope this reinforces the resolve of organizations who do invest in their leaders to stay the course. For all of the other reasons to do it, building your leaders provides you with competitive advantage over organizations that don't.

According to Wikipedia - The Liberal Party of the Philippines (Filipino: Partido Liberal ng Pilipinas) is the governing political party and a liberal party in the Philippines, founded by then senators Senate President Manuel Roxas, Senate President Pro-Tempore Elpidio Quirino, and former 9th Senatorial District Senator José Avelino, on November 24, 1945 by a breakaway Liberal group from the Nacionalista Party. It is the current ruling party after the election victory of Benigno Aquino III as the President of the Philippines. The Liberals control the House of Representatives, while they are part of a coalition agreement in the Senate.

The Liberal Party is the second-oldest extant political party in the Philippines in terms of date of establishment, and the oldest continually-active political party in the Philippines. The party has been led by respected liberal thinkers and pro-development politicians like Manuel Roxas, Elpidio Quirino, Diosdado Macapagal, Gerry Roxas, Benigno Aquino, Jr., Jovito Salonga, Raul Daza, Florencio B. Abad, Jr., Franklin Drilon, Mar Roxas, and Benigno Aquino III.

The Liberal Party (LP) was founded on November 24, 1945 by Manuel Roxas, the first President of the Third Philippine Republic. It was formed by Roxas from what was once the "Liberal Wing" of the old Nacionalista Party. Two more Presidents of the Philippines elected into office came from the LP: Elpidio Quirino and the redoubtable Diosdado Macapagal. Two other presidents came from the ranks of the LP, as former members of the party who later chose to follow a different path by joining the Nacionalistas: Ramon Magsaysay and Ferdinand Marcos.

During the days leading to his declaration of martial law, Marcos would find his old party as a potent roadblock to his quest for one-man rule. Led by Ninoy Aquino, Gerry Roxas and Jovito Salonga, the LP would time and again hound the would-be dictator on issues like human rights and the curtailment of freedoms. Not even Marcos' declaration of martial law silenced the LP, and the party continued to fight the dictatorship despite the costs. Many of its leaders and members would be prosecuted and even killed during this time.

In recent times, the LP was instrumental in ending more than half a century of US military presence in the Philippines with its campaign in the Philippine Senate of 1991 to reject a new RP-US Bases Treaty. This ironically cost the party dearly, losing for it the elections of 1992. Despite the loss, in 2000 it again showed its mettle by standing against the corruption of the Joseph Estrada government, actively supporting the Resign-Impeach-Oust initiatives that led to People Power II.

In 2006, the Philippines' ruling political party, Lakas-CMD, with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo serving as its supremo, was influential in "hijacking" the Liberal Party by way of overthrowing the party presidency of Sen. Franklin Drilon at a rump party meeting at the Manila Hotel. With the marching orders and blessing of Lakas, LP members sympathetic to the Arroyo government used the meeting on March 2 to install Manila Mayor Lito Atienza as the party president, thus triggering an LP leadership struggle and party schism. Days later, the Supreme Court proclaimed Drilon the true president of the party, leaving the Atienza wing expelled.

The Liberal Party regained new influence in 2010 when it nominated as its next presidential candidate then-Senator Benigno Aquino III, the son of former President Corazon Aquino, after the latter's death that subsequently showed a massive outpouring of sympathy for the Aquino family.

Even though the party had earlier nominated Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II to be its presidential candidate for the 2010 Philippine general election, Roxas chose to give way to Aquino and ran for vice president instead. During the fierce campaign battle that followed, the party was able to field new members breaking away from the then-ruling party Lakas Kampi CMD to become the largest minority party in Congress.

After the game of Gilas Pilipinas and China….and even the last quarter nearing its end, I eventually lost hope for our basketball Team playing the hope for their lives. The mere fact for what I felt was reverberated across all Filipinos who inspired our team to get the crown.

It’s not really we Filipinos have the feeling of insecurities when it comes to playing basketball. We felt the rigors of losing sometimes and joy when we finally made to the top.

But in this case, some negatives on the Chinese management when it comes to our players. Lots of bad incidents happened that even I managed to conclude that this game was a fake or it made our Gilas Pilipinas to look unprepared.

The delaying tactics of Chinese organizers were rampant and very disappointing to know that my hope for Gilas Pilipinas was deviating to an end and I for one, hoping for the best; for them and for our country.

Netizens were very much angered the way the referees behaved for our team than the Chinese. Audience can detect these malpractices even the ordinary basketball fan.

But we have to accept this and be aware for this kind of Team in the future. Even the audience, we have to be vigilant for not happening again.
