It won't create a feed for you from scratch as often believed - rather it wraps itself snugly around a feed you bring in and adds its services therein. It has a few premium options for the serious feed publisher, too.

People ask me all the time if I suggest that they use FeedBurner’s plethora of free feed enhancement tools. I have always answered a resounding “Yes!” – But lately FeedBurner has moved itself to a whole new level.

Increasing Your Blog Traffic with FeedBurner

Blog Traffic Increaser # 1- Give others permission - or shake the no-no finger with the Creative Commons option, found under the Publicize tab in your FeedBurner dashboard.

It will pop in the logo if you like, and explain what permissions others have to use your feed. Being clear about what permissions others have to use your feed with encourage them to display your headlines on their site – or let them know that they must link to you to cite your views.

Blog Traffic Increaser # 2- Turn your feed into a newsletter with Feedblitz or Squeet under Publicize/Email Subscriptions.

This turns your feed into a newsletter. It even gives you a subscribe form for your site. Now you now have a(nother) ezine option to go with your blog without any extra work.

Blog Traffic Increaser # 3- Use the Browser-Friendly version, combined with FeedFlare to explain what an RSS Feed is.

Four on the Optimize tab, the Browser-Friendly version turns your RSS feed into a web page, so that when new people click on your feed, without knowing what it is, they’ll know how to use it. All you do is link to the FeedBurner version of your feed, instead of your default feed address. FeedBurner will even help you with this, as we’ll see in Tip #12.

But before we talk about that, here’s an extra tip: under the FeedFlare option on the Optimize tab, you’ll find the Personal Flare section. If you click one of the links given, you will see one called “Get Email Updates”. Once you have the Email Subscription option enabled, you can enable that link in your feed to provide the option to subscribe to your updates via email.

Maybe you have an Atom feed in a world that uses RSS more often. Perhaps the tool you’re using utilizes an older version of RSS, and you’re just getting around to turning on your feed, but don’t want to switch. If you look on the Optimize tab in FeedBurner, you’ll find a tool that will convert your feed on the fly to any version the end user’s tool is asking for.

It's not enough to build a website, you need to have traffic for get people to see it! Whether you are selling products or just offering information, you need visitors! Adding your site to search engines is one way of generating traffic, but there are many other ways to attract visitors. Here are some possibilities to try.

Offer a contest or sweepstakes with free entry. The prize that they win should be something that would interest your target market. For example, don't offer a free filet mignon if you are targeting vegetarians! The prize could be a product or service that you offer, or it could be a related item that is not direct competition. You can also boost traffic by using another company's product and asking them to let *their* customers know about your free giveaway!
Offer free content. This content could be articles, e-books, directories, etc. Don't just add any content, make sure it is related to your visitor demographic. Keep this content up to date and fresh. Not only will lots of fresh, targeted content make your website more relevant in search engines, but will offer your prospective customers extra information. They are likely to visit your site more often. You can also offer the option to let them reprint information (such as articles or reviews), with a link back to your site.
Create a message forum. Forums allow a free flow of ideas, and your target visitors share at least one common interest - your site! An active message board can bring lots of new visitors. If you have satisfied customers posting on your message board, this is free advertising for your business! You may also choose to offer advertising on your message board. If you are not selling a product, set up an advertising package for banners or other site ads which are related to the interests of your visitors. Offer an E-zine. People love information, especially if it's free! Offer a free subsription to your online newsletter or e-zine. Either way works well, although you would need to have Adobe Acrobat software to write the PDF files. Keep the content of the e-zine relevant to your target audience. Offer online classes or seminars. If you love to teach, this is a wonderful traffic building tool. Whether or not you choose to charge for these is up to you. UniversalClass. With UniversalClass, they host your class for you and you are assigned an individual online classroom. You must prepare an online syllabus and your course will be reviewed. UniversalClass will advertise your course for you, and you will get a portion of the course fees.

Do you want more traffic to your website? You can have the prettiest site but without traffic what good is it? So how can you get more traffic? It takes time or money or both to get your website noticed. With the millions of websites out there why would anybody click on your link? You don't just build a site and hope that somebody will find it. You need to promote your site. Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other search engines won't just notice you without some effort on your part. Here are some proven methods that work to get extra traffic to your website.

Write articles that are pertinent to your website's theme or topic. The search engines are always looking for interesting, well written, articles about whatever it is that you are promoting. Submit your articles to some of the well-known article directories like E-zine articles and Go articles with your link back to your site in the resource box. Make sure that you do not use old ,stale, articles that you purchased. At the least rewrite the articles. In other words, paraphrased so that the article is unique.
Make sure that you use good keywords. The new trends are to use long tailed keywords. For instance, don't say boats. Use three or four words, coupled with boat. "Boat accessories for sailboats" is a longer phrase that someone might use when searching. This might get you on the first page of the search engine and get your website some traffic.

For this site (the one you are on right now), I simply search for “unresolved questions” that deal with “working online”, “making money online”, “work from home”, etc. For my Celebrity Gossip site I search “unresolved questions” that relate to celebrity news, rumors, gossip sites, etc. I do this for all of my sites and when I find questions that relate to my weblogs I promote myself in a cleaver way. I will answer the question honestly then post a link to my site that is 100% relevant to the question asked. I have been able to gain an additional 100+ visitors a day from about 15 minutes of answering questions! Not bad, eh? Plus, once you answer the question, both the question as well as your response will continue to be displayed for anybody to see! Do You Want a Good Domain Name for Your Blog or Website?

You may be asking what a domain name is. A domain name is a "www" address that you use to visit websites on the Internet. A good example would be if you wanted to visit Google, you would type in www.google.com in your web browser. Google.com is Google's domain name. A domain name tells the world who you are on the Internet. Nobody else can use your domain name.

There are many vendors where you can register a domain name. The prices are fairly consistent and can cost anywhere from $5 - $15 for year. They need to be registered each year, but you can usually pay for several years at a time and get a discount.

In order to get a good idea for a domain name for your business or just for personal reasons, open up a word processing program on your computer and list 10 key words that would be related to the content of your website or blog. For example, if you want to site to be health oriented, list health, herbal, healthy, remedy, cure ... Or let's say you have a house cleaning service, list cleaning, home, vacuum, maid service, ...

One you have your list, get a domain name with at least one of the keywords in the title. You need to do this so that the search engines will find your site. Try to keep the domain name as short as possible. Short and easy to remember is better than long and forgetful. Also, go with the '".com" extension. Most people online expect the website they are visiting to be ".com" so go with the most popular extension.

Take your keyword list and visit "000domains.com". You may not want to register your domain here as there are cheaper alternatives. However, they have a great search domain feature anyone can use. It's on the first page on the site so you can't miss it. Type in one of your keywords and make sure the ".com" extension is checked and hit the search button. You will be given several possibilities for what's available. If you don't see one you like, add short words like "the" or "a" to the keyword. If you still have no luck, click the "more" link to find alternate domain names with your basic keyword included. If you still cannot find one you like, type in your second keyword and continue as before.

If you have a business, you probably want to brand your business name. Examples of brand names are Google and Yahoo. Both of these names are probably made up and don't really need a keyword list. Therefore, if you want to brand, you may not need the keyword list. Instead, you would use your business name. For example, if your business is Empire Lawn Service, type that in the search box to see if it's available. If not, add your small words like "the" and "a" and search. As a last resort, go with the alternate domain names search.
There is nothing preventing you from registering more than one domain name. You could register your business name and several key word domain names. At about $10 a name, it's a good investment

If you have a new website for your business and want to promote it, or you have a website you think is fantastic but the less-than-ideal traffic flow hardly makes it worth the cost of keeping it on the Internet, here are some tips for getting it into the public eye.

First, consider other websites that could benefit from linking to your own, and vice versa. Ask those websites if they would consider doing a “link exchange”, where each of you will put a link on your website to the other’s website. It’s a good way to generate some additional traffic, and most of the people you approach will be happy to comply with your request. If there’s a large number of websites you want to ask, consider sending out a single email to everyone; it saves you both time and energy, and unlike customer mailing lists it doesn’t behoove you to personalize each and every email. Once you’ve put this link exchange into place, if you’ve chosen your affiliates well you should expect to see a slight increase of traffic onto your site.

Next, if you have time and a thick skin you may want to try finding an online message board or other forum with people interested in what you have to offer and post a link to your website. Many forums have rules about doing this, however, so you need to check with that board’s administrator first to assure them your intentions are good and you aren’t a spammer. Many administrators will appreciate you checking with them first, and some may even start a thread sanctioning your post to let visitors know you’re legitimate. One method that guarantees customer traffic is the lure of free information, otherwise called “tutorials”.
