Cougar—a woman, 40 years of age or older, who pursues younger men, typically more than eight years her junior. The origin of the word is debated; however, it is thought to have first appeared in print on the Canadian dating website Cougardate.com.

I’m just not liking the word.  I’m not feeling it at all.  It sounds so predatory.  And not at all attractive, especially since the women we’re referring to usually are.

I’m all for older woman going after younger men.  Yea, I know all about the statistics with respect to sexual peaks.  Women reaching it later and all, so it actually makes more sense for it to happen.

Bill Simmons, The Sports Guy, refers to the group of attractive over 40 women as The Diane Lane All-Stars.    And has a list of them, including:

Raquel Welch, Sharon Stone, Julie Christie and Meredith Baxter-Birney (the all-time hottest TV mom) over the past two decades, Jaclyn Smith (the senior member of the team); the lead singer from Berlin (surprisingly hot in the VH1 show that reunited ’80s bands); Jacqueline Bisset; Cheryl Hines (a perennial All-Star); Sandra Bullock (surprisingly frisky these days); Arianna Huffington (the sleeper of this list); Maura Tierney (aging like a nice burgundy); Kelly Ripa (as soon as she turns 40); and, of course, Jim Lampley.

I like the All-Stars.  It sounds better.  More complimentary.

I recommend we change the term Cougar to All-Star in honor of Diane Lane.

Yahoo is reporting that a woman has killed another woman which was the culmination of a feud started on Facebook over a love interest – who just happened to be in jail.

I don’t make this stuff up.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.  Is this an 1D10Tic policy or what?

It’s amazing to me that in this day and age we are arguing whether or not gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transexuals (GLBT) should be allowed to serve in the military.

There should be no question whatsoever.

In hindsight, integrating the military in 1948 was a good thing and helped in the Civil Rights movement. 

Yes, there were problems.  Those problems came from the blatant racism that was prevalent at that time.

And in 2010, because of blatant homophobia there will be problems with integrating the GLBT military personnel.   And like most policies in the military, it will be another one of those things that Soldiers, Sailors and Marines just will have to work through. 

A tough one.  And necessary. 

And I’m glad that the Congress and the President are actually doing something about it by repealing the law.  My 1D10T Congressman, the dishonorable Vern Buchanan, voted against it.  As did most Republicans. 

Their story?  They want time to study the effects of repealing this ID10Tic policy.  In the words of Bluto Blutarsky – bullshit.

Apparently the Army still doesn’t get it. 

At a time when the US is at war on two fronts, the Army discharged gay activist Lt. Dan Choi. 

Lt. Dan Choi.  A West Point graduate.  Infantry.  Arabic Linguist.

Back in the day, there was another war veteran who came out and fought the military’s policy on homosexuals.  Technical Sergeant Leonard Matlovich (1943–1988) was a Vietnam War veteran, race relations instructor, and recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He lost his life to AIDS in 1988.

If you know me, you’ll know that I am always talking griping bitching about balanced reporting.  And quite frankly, I jumped the gun writing about Shirley Sherrod. 

The whole video shows a tale about redemption.  And that redemption was Ms. Sherrod’s own journey.  

You can see it and read about it for yourself on whichever news outlet is carrying it, as it’s all over the news. 

Her father was killed by white men.  She, of anyone, has endured racism and her story was telling how she overcame it.

I still believe that a government official should strive for following the path of what’s right for everyone, no matter your personal issues.  And as it turned out the farmers in question believe that she helped them save their farm.  Even though she admitted she didn’t go full force in helping them…at first.

And I believe I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for jumping the gun and labeling her a racist, when evidently is not.

Kids, I’ve known this for a long time, but most criminals are not smart.  This 1D10T is about the dumbest I’ve ever heard of. 

A burglar, Yai Thao, fell asleep after breaking into a Sacramento home.  The victim caught him in his bed, made him empty his pockets, then later discovered that the perpetrator had been watching porn.

This is hilarious.  “Yo, homey, ya gotta go.  My girlfriend will be back soon.” I know I would NOT have woken the dude up, though.  I would have called the police immediately.   It was like he knew the guy. 

Later, Mr. Angel discovered that the sleeping burglar had been watching porn and that some necklaces also were stolen. 

Luis called police and followed Thao for several blocks until police arrived to make the arrest.

Thao was detained for breaking and entering and resisting arrest, but Luis’ necklaces weren’t recovered.

Luis also made a far more disturbing discovery after he found out what had caught the suspect’s attention inside his home.

"He was watching porn. He fell asleep watching porn. Who knows what he did watching porn," Luis said. "That’s the worst one."

That’s when he called the cops.

What got him pissed off was not the theft, but the sheer audacity of some random guy spanking it to his private stash in his own bedroom.

Luis said he isn’t taking any chances: He has a new bedspread and sheets.

Ya think?

LSU Miami Dolphins Alabama Coach, Nick Saban, recently referred to sports agents as pimps. 

He should know.

What is the difference between what a head coach at a major university does and what an agent does?

They take full advantage of young adults and make a potload of cash on them.

The kids are not supposed to get paid.  Or receive cars or gifts.  They cannot attend parties, etc.  The compliance book has to be about as big as the US tax code.

The universities are making millions off the young people.  They sell them on the front cover of their media guides.  They sell their jerseys and posters.  They sell them to the boosters.

And the kids do not make a penny off this stuff. 

And the 1D10T head coaches, who will lie to the kids they recruited before bolting for a better job someplace else, are also making millions.  Saban himself makes over $4M per year. 

So, before you get all sanctimonious there, Coach, take a look in the mirror to see who the real pimp is.

And not the Jim Crow of the South.  Faux News is reporting that the Agriculture Department’s Georgia director of Rural Development, Shirly Sherrod, telling an NAACP audience about how she failed to help a white farmer because he was acting superior.

Racism is not funny in any way shape of form.  Losing a farm, whether you’re a black, white, yellow, brown, male or female is not funny.  It’s a tragedy.

And if you play any part in helping someone fail, you are an 1D10T.

“Here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land – so I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do.  I did enough.”

Nice.  “I did enough.”

I get that.  I really, do.

You can go two ways when you’re in a position of trust. 

Do everything you can to get back at who got you.  We want to screw the guy that screwed us.  Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Or…

Do everything so that there is no favoritism either way.  No matter what.  Make sure you’re doing everything to make sure that all the t’s are crossed and the i’s dotted.

Oh and once piece of advice.  If you happen to choose the former over the latter, especially in this day of youtubism (see I can make up my own words, too), make sure you’re not caught bragging about it.

The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.

"There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. "We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously.

The NAACP released a statement late Monday condemning Sherrod’s admission.

"We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers," the statement said.

"Her actions were shameful," it continued. "While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man."

I am glad to see that the USDA and the NAACP have the same opinion of this 1D10T.

There’s no place for this kind of behavior anywhere.  I don’t care what color, creed, gender or sexual preference you are.

Last week I stumbledupon the Smoking Gun’s report on Debra Beasley Lafave, a teacher, who at the age of 23 had sex with two teenagers and got no jail time.

Remember that?

And the outrage?  That if she was Donnie Lafave and took advantage of two young teenaged girls that there’d be a lot more jail time than nothing.

Not only did she break the law, she violated one of the basic laws of dating a younger person – half your age plus seven.

Now CBS in Chicago is reporting that another Hester has done the same thing.  This time, the 1D10T in question, Cathleen M. Miller, is 40 and she’s charged with having a fun time with 4 of her daughter’s friends, and they were all either 14 or 15 years old.

There are a bunch of different ways we can all react to this type of news…

• Boys will be boys – bad boys at that
• Where were these MILFs/Cougars when I was 14?
• We should lock her up and throw away the key.
• We need to keep better tabs on our kids.
• It could make a wild story that starts off something like this “Dear Penthouse, I can’t believe this actually happened to me…”

The problem that I have with this is that if she were named Joe and was a 40 year old guy and plied his son’s friends with pot and alcohol and had sex with 14 and 15 year old girls, the outrage would be crazy.

• How can we let this happen to our girls?
• OMG what a perv.
• Ewww…

Most people wouldn’t be saying, “cool, dude, way to get some.”

And maybe the kids are sexually active earlier and are influenced by a lot of stuff, including ubiquitous access to porn on the internet and sexual freedom and mores because of knowledge gained that we of a different age didn’t possess.

And maybe the age of consent should be lowered due to this.

Fact is, the law is the law. 

There is no difference if the molestation happens to a boy or girl.

As a society, we let the Hesters of the world slide, but we don’t give the Chesters any leeway.
