Gamble

If you have been reading my blog or have been on my site you have seen the articles that I wrote about Starting pitching. The injury list is getting pretty long. I realize that it is early and players tend to have minor injuries in the begining of training camp, but some of the minor injuries stay with a player all season long. You may not have agreed with what I said, but take a look at what is unfolding on the Injury report. A lot of fantasy owners will see this as a bad thing and will take pitchers eariler than they should and you will be able to capitolize on this and better value out of hitters than the over valued pitchers. I also look at it and think it is a good thing for using a pitch and ditch mentality. Take a look at some of the injuries so far:

Fausto Carmona - 5 game suspension ~ will his head be right when he returns?
Brad Penny - Shoulder ~
Jeremy Bonderman - Shoulder
Mark Prior - Shoulder
Rich Hill - Elbow
Wandy Rodriguez - Rib
Johan Santana - Elbow
Brandon Webb - Forearm
Anthony Reyes - Elbow
Jason Schmidt - Shoulder
Noah Lowry - Shoulder and Elbow
Jeff Francis - shoulder ~ out for the season
Tim Hudson - Elbow ~ out till early August
Kelvim Escobar - Shoulder ~ out till late May
Boof Bonse - Shoulder ~ out for the season
Jered Weaver - Shoulder
Tom Glavin - Shoulder
Rich Harden - Shoulder
Ben Sheets - Elbow ~ out till early June
John Smoltz - Shoulder ~ might be out untilearly June
Jake Westbrook - Elbow ~ out until late July

New stuff on the site

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

Go to my site and check out the new UFC Ring Girls. Here's what they look like:

Last 10 Games:
DATE OPP AB R H HR RBI BB SO SB AVG
SEP 19  MIL  4  2  2  2  4  1  0  0  .287
SEP 20  MIL  4  1  2  0  1  0  1  0  .288
SEP 21  MIL  4  0  0  0  0  0  1  0  .286
SEP 22  FLA  4  2  2  1  2  0  0  0  .288
SEP 23  @HOU  4  1  3  0  1  0  1  0  .291
SEP 24  @HOU  3  0  2  0  0  1  0  0  .294
SEP 25  @HOU  5  0  1  0  0  0  0  0  .293
SEP 26  @STL  3  1  2  1  2  1  1  0  .295
SEP 27  @STL  5  0  1  0  0  0  0  0  .294
SEP 28  @STL  2  2  2  1  2  1  0  0  .297
Totals  38  9  17  5  12  4  4  0  .447

His last ten games show he is improving. His hit to strike out ratio was 17/4. Most people will shy away from him because when they glance at his 2008 stats they will see Ryan Howard like strike out numbers and pass on him. I expect that his Home Runs will go up and his strike outs will go down. Keep an eye on his spring numbers.

Blog has been updated

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

I just updated and changed my blog. Most of the time switching teams is good for a players stat. In 2008 he hit 10 Home runs, but in 2007 he hit 27. In 2008 he only had 389 at bats and in 2007 he had 611 ab's. He has the power but his batting average needs a little bit of work. He has the potential to hit 30 Home runs if he stays healthy for the entire season. He will be overlooked in your draft beccause he had a bad year in 2008. This makes him a prime canidate for a great value. Is it pitching? Is it the sluggers? This is a tuff question. There are many different opinions on this subject. It can be argued either way. The philosophy I used to be pitching in the past. I was a firm believer in the fact that you needed one of the top 5 pitchers in your rotation if you wanted to win. The last few years has changed my opinion of this. I always loaded up on the top pitchers and ended up with average hitters. The problem with that philosophy is that pitching is one of the most unpredictable positions of them all. Jake Peavy is a prime example of this unpredictability. In 2007 Peavy won 19 games, pitched 223 innings and 240 strike outs and last year he had 10 wins, pitched 173 innings and had 166 strike outs. I would call that inconsistent. If you drafted Peavy last year in the first or second round you were sadly disappointed. Take a look at Tim Wakefield’s numbers from last year he won 10 games, pitched 181 innings and had 117 strike outs. Would you ever draft Wakefeild before Jake Peavy? No way. Wakefeild is ranked around 122 and Peavy is ranked in the top 6. My point is why take that big risk of using your first or second pick on a pitcher that has the possibility of posting the same production as the guy that is ranked 122? Most hitters are consistent and you can see in their numbers when they are starting to go bad. A pitcher has to rely on his team as well as his self. A hitter steps up to the plate and controls his own fate. Every year there are pitchers that don’t get drafted and put up better numbers than some Aces. The reason I bring this up is if you tie yourself to pitching it’s hard to get away from them in the middle of the season when they are doing worse than the guys on the waiver wire. It’s tuff when you have to decide wither or not to start your ace because he is playing so bad. If you had Tim Wakefeild it wouldn’t be so hard to ditch him and pick up the hot pitcher on the waiver wire. If your ace only pitches one time for you during the week he doesn’t get a chance to make up for a poor performance, but a hitter will play 4-6 games in a week and can bust out of a slump in the same week. Most of the time you can find a pitcher on the waiver wire that has 2 games in a week, or you can pick up a few pitchers during the week and take some chances. Now I go back to the Peavy – Wakefield argument. Can you ditch Peavy and work the waiver wire? Using a pitch and ditch type of strategy takes a lot of time and effort, but can be very affective in head to head leagues. It’s all about risk. Most people don’t feel confident if they don’t have a dominant staff, but in head to head you may only get 6 pitching starts but your sluggers will play 4-6 times a week.

Thoughs about drafting

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

Let's talk draft strategies. It is important to have some sort of strategy when you show up to your draft. The best way to build a strategy is to do your research and practice. The most important part of your strategy should be your research. Your research should give you a good foundation and a good idea of player value. I have seen plenty of drafts where people have abandoned their strategies by the second round. That's why I think it's important to have an overall strategy and not a specific strategy. You should tailor your strategy to your point system in your league rules. One thing you can do is put players into groups. Go through every position and rank players according to your rankings. Then go back through and sort them into groups. The best way to do this is to take projections and tailor them to your point system. Using groups will help you determine a players value during your draft. The key to winning your league is getting value in every draft position. Your number one pick is not going to determine whether you win your league or not. Most leauges are won in the mid-to late round picks. Position scarcity is also another thing that should help you develop your strategy. If there is a huge drop-off in position, chances are, people will go after the top few players a lot earlier than they should. You should use this to your advantage and try to find one of those players in that position that will give you above average value. Most of the time when run on a position starts everybody jumps on, because they don't want to get a week player. If you know the number 18 guy will give you almost the same production as the number seven guy you can wait to draft this position and capitalize on a better value in another position. This is where doing your research is very important. Don't let the draft dictate your team, let your strategy do it.

Practice

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1w8DM7_zNyQqUzardBLBrZhKPv2yuuM-vSu5rPkOsxNuJPfaN-E4E3Xa3Onf_-IbzWXHlD_DEQURiIhQllUEL1z7pO_j-wMq16qLL2zLIE8sp32CKfX3YNwalbyd_pAy_k9Vl6Hx-W14/s200/Florida+680.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298087642052824210" />

It is time of year again. Now is the time to begin your research. Doing your research now is what will separate you from the rest of your competitors. There is plenty of information available on the Internet or on your favorite sports site right now. One of the most important things that you can do is practice your draft strategies. There are more sites now than ever that offer mock drafts. This is a great tool to prepare you for your draft. One of the sites that you can sign up for is mockdraftcentral.com. You can sign up for this free site and join in mock drafts. By doing these mock drafts, you will get an idea of what other people are thinking and where they think some players are ranked. Most of the people that are doing these mock drafts are actually doing them and taking it seriously. It's a good idea to join as many drafts as possible. Participating in mock drafts will not only familiarize you with the players, it will also give you an idea of how other people are ranking their players. It may also draw your attention to players that you were unfamiliar with. During your drafts take notes. Write down players names that you are unfamiliar with. That way you can look them up and do your research on them later. Another thing you can do is while you're waiting for your turn to draft right down the player that you are targeting for your pick and write down a few players that you feel are of equal value to your target player. Then when the draft is done you can go back and look at your notes and decide if you got good value for your picks. So, what are you waiting for? This is the best advice anyone could ever give you. Practice, practice, practice.
Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

Over-rated State

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

What did last night’s game prove? Last night proved a few things. One thing that it proved was that Ohio State once again showed that they can’t win the big game. Ohio State in my opinion is one of the most overrated football teams in college football. Hopefully they have finally opened the eyes of the hype machine known as ESPN. It completely amazes me that year after year Ohio State and Clemson are rated in the top 25 in the preseason polls. Ok well enough of that. I can ramble about Overrated State and Clemson, but I will do that at a later time. This game will add more controversy to the big pile of crap called the BCS. After Texas beats Ohio State they will have to sit back and watch a team that they beat play for the national championship. Imagine that sick feeling that the Texas players are going to have watching that game. Funny thing is it won’t only be the Texas team and their fans that will have that feeling, what about Utah? The Utes you say. How did they do this year? Can you name a team that beat them? They may not play in a great conference, but they still went undefeated and beat a very good Alabama team. Alabama was a team that held the #1 ranking in college football this year. How about that team out on the west coast USC they handed it to Penn State and only have 1 loss like both of the teams playing for the National Championship. As much as I hate to say it USC is playing better than anyone in the country right now and Utah isn’t that far away. It’s a shame how corrupted college football is. It is truly a great sport that is tainted by greed. College football is the only sport that people’s opinions affect your season. It almost reminds me of a Don King sanctioned fight. It’s funny how the athletic directors and presidents will say that they can’t have a playoff because it will take too much time out of their academics, and if they are in a bowl game they have a chance to win their last game and go out a winner. Florida’s last game was on Dec. 06 and they play in the national championship on Jan 08. I wonder if they would be able to fit 3 games in four weeks? The schools are in bed with the bowls and they are well compensated. Here’s an idea if the conferences want to keep it an armature sport and it’s not about the money they should donate all the bowl proceedings to charity. It really is a shame this year, because there could have been some really good games in a playoff system. It’s time for change! We need a playoff system and we need it now. For all the Texas fans and players you’re not the only one that are unpleased with the way things unfolded this year. Just go out and handle your business tonight. Don’t worry, because Ohio State will do what they do best - get beat when it counts! Ohio State should change their name to Overrated State!!!

2009 National Championship

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAjshns4pwjiQlScIA5TX_pPR3anf0BYYDw7aGl38pLCAjf9pFLul06jlYcS_7WQU-lPfOk_6UvFHpug3Iguq90w9aMU91GlMA4iELJGJAyfB6sNRThbq4hcIcBdDRyTtqP-89yNP57Kc/s320/22.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279744929708645346" />
Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

2009 National Championship Game

Florida VS Oklahoma

On January 08, 2009 the Florida Gators will meet the Oklahoma Sooners in the National Championship game. I am still scratching my head wondering how this happened. Out of the 4 one loss teams whose loss was the worst? I think that goes without saying. If Florida was in any other conference than the SEC they wouldn’t be playing in this game. College football is so corrupted with the SEC and the bowls that it makes me sick. I will be the first one to admit that I thought Alabama would beat Florida. I was wrong about that. The fact that Florida jumped Texas while they were idle is a slap in the face to any college football fan. Florida played a great game against the #1 team in the country there’s no doubt about that, but to jump a team that didn’t have a chance to play. The fact that they had to watch 2 teams that they beat play for their division is a disgrace. Texas lost to a very good Texas Tech in the last few seconds on an unbelievable catch. It was a catch that gets dropped 9 out of 10 times. They didn’t get beat down. They lost to a top 10 team that finished the season at 11-1. Florida lost to Mississippi 8-4 and they were 2-2 when they played Florida. If you were wondering who their 2 losses were they were Wake Forest (7-5) and Vanderbilt (6-6). On the other hand Texas beat Oklahoma head to head, but that only matters in every other sport in the world. If you can’t tell by my words I am bitter about this match up especially since I will be at the game. My first National Championship Game and I am already bitter before I get to Miami. That being said I have no choice but to pick Florida because of the way they beat Alabama. They will also have Percy Harvin back for this game and he is one of college football’s best all around players. Tim Tebow was the reason that they beat Alabama and I can’t see Oklahoma shutting him down. I am making my pick under protest because if Texas was in this game I would be picking them to be the 2009 National Champions.

CC Sabathia to the Yankees

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixvbkJ0zSQC0Scsg_JY6Ln0HTu8peajLvdray8FeVOJ3ElcTKNi58-0Zw7FSeZEsKq02m12kMZwzWQxqIaazfuYBgZfER_OOuM6XuQHCSVo2I5A4OC5J5-JwoH4wnmyeurphpAwhKnF-w/s320/JACKTHEGURU.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278862707943731010" />

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

CC Sabathia to the Yankees
The Yankees pitching staff was 9th last year in the American League posting a 4.58 ERA. So what do they do to correct that? They throw 161 Million dollars and a dozen of doughnuts at CC Sabathia. Rumor has it the doughnuts are what sealed the deal. If you own a food cart now would be a good time to park it in the parking lot at Yankee stadium. Is he worth it? No way. Does he solve the Yankees problems? No Way. I am not saying that he doesn’t make the pitching staff better, but this doesn’t put them in the World Series. It does solve the one problem that the Yankees had of what to do with the extra food after the games. My advice for the Yankees would be make sure that he pitches on Dollar dog night. That way he will only be able to hit up the hot dog guy between innings. That being said any pitcher that pitches for the Yankees has a chance to win a game. His numbers will rise as will his uniform size. He will have a big fantasy impact in the beginning of the season, but will he be able to maintain it all season? We will see. I still wouldn’t pick him over Jake Peavy or Brandon Webb, but I would take him if those 2 were gone. CC had a great year last year there’s no doubt about that, but keep in mind he pitched 253 innings. That’s a lot of wear and tear for a season. He also pitched 241 innings in 2007. That’s awesome fantasy production there’s no doubt. I think that is a lot of stress on any ones arm. He pitched 10 complete games in 2008, but I don’t imagine he will do that again. The Yankees aren’t going to take save opportunities away from Rivera. This move defiantly increases Rivera’s fantasy value and production. CC will be under tremendous amounts of pressure from the local media and the fans. As long as he can shake off the pressure, not get hurt and pitch on Dollar dog night he should put up top 3 fantasy pitching numbers. My prediction is that he breaks 300 by June. 300 pounds that is. I still rank him #3 in pitching.

Alabama Vs Florida

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrt-YLyxgjiWtSGKgKSS3JmOOZ48srtCFk7aTv91Cm6RDxJMLP1QRpSFQCGYPvNx1y0f3WtB5AjXfeCNrmgTOSe2F6NVF6p0VxAxepmm_lkGbYV9DJsL7Tg_0iZoMB8P9BObS0ucTUxOE/s320/FL.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276627807707048834" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib4KopVp0grI6jUN0rDn5LYb-kGd5WMZbgmqRJ7CmGwkEyzzldR5tW1w18zHL0W0d-R5O5D3WAgsmgOK1TZBuqooitR9bOcs_PzdTMR2caFeRf3bYUw8D-hFQLLnEQHliGpv-u2SsPJZ0/s320/AL.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276627667345660418" />

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Florida
This is going to be a great game. Florida has been running up the score on all the teams that they have played, but they haven’t played a team like Alabama. Alabama is a power team that pushes people around and then kicks them when they are down. In fact, I think I seen one of Alabama’s lineman smacking around a Clemson’s players Mom after the game was over on Aug. 30th. That big mean offensive line likes to man handle teams. The line led by tackle Andre Smith likes to control the field and open up holes for some guy named coffee. John Parker Wilson hasn’t put up huge numbers, but he has done what is more important than stats, win! He has managed his games well and hasn’t made that many mistakes. He also has a pretty good line protecting him, an awesome receiver in Julio Jones and a pretty good running back that goes by the name Glen Coffee with a rush average of 6.2 yds per carry. Florida has a great quarterback in Tim T-bone... I mean Tebow. He is very talented and smart with the ball. He has only thrown 2 interceptions all year. Tebow will be limited to how many times he touches the ball. Alabama leads the SEC in scoring drives of more than 5 minutes. They are a ball control team and have dominated the line of scrimmage all year long. Something else to keep in mind is that Alabama’s Defense is #1 in the SEC and #3 in the NCAA. I remember watching the Clemson game on Aug 30th and watching in amusement as Alabama’s line was punishing Clemson’s defense. I also remember watching a certain sports station (who I won’t name-starts with an ES) and they were riding Clemson telling me how thunder and lightning were going to run all over Alabama’s Defense. Nice call on that one ES.. CJ Spiller had 7 yards and James Davis had 13 yards. Maybe they can re-air their hype report and call them Dud and Pud. Fast forward to right now and that same station has been riding Florida like they are the Boston Red Sox. Once again Nick Saban is going to make ES.. look bad. It’s time to put the women and children to bed because this is going to be an ugly brawl. Alabama wins 28-21.

Just a side note Alabama is undefeated. On Aug. 30th Clemson proved 2 things to the world: 1 Alabama has a damn good football team and 2) Clemson remains to be the most Over-rated and Over hyped team 2nd to the Boston Red Sox at ES..

What happens in Vegas

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD355jokn7fBeXCXd-xD4-0SRCyMO1W7NxIXqFxjWOpohdh3Rtsr8fyXgeGigAQp6ibrw_FJo3LgUHevPqcbj4sHm7RiBa8HBh1kQei-BAFcnut9iLgvIn9WTevhxc2HS5pSjxnnsiV-w/s320/460-oj-simpson_802332c.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276376287998237538" />

Don't forget to check out my site WWW.1fantasyguru.com

Friday December 05, 2008 1:30PM: O.J. It's championship week for College Football. Pro football has 4 weeks left in the season, and most fantasy leagues are starting their playoffs this week or next. This is also the point where all of your hard work should be paying off with a playoff spot. It's also the point of the season that makes you sick to your stomach. Maybe you were fighting for a playoff spot and you had Marion Barber on your team and you had to watch him walk into the locker room. This time of the year is tricky because if you were riding a stud all year he may see less carries because his team is going to get him some rest for the playoff. You really need to do your research this time of the year. Look at your roster and look for players on teams that are fighting for a playoff spot. Keep an eye on any of your players that may have minor injuries that may get less playing time. Go to your players team home page and see if there coach
has said anything about limiting there playing time. This is the time of the year that you need to do your research and make educated deicions on setting your line up. Good luck to any managers that have made the playoffs and for the ones that didn't make the playoffs it's time to get ready for baseball.
