Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as I often did, why they felt so bored, they always gave the same answers: They said the work was stupid, that it made no sense, that they already knew it. They said they wanted to be doing something real, not just sitting around. They said teachers didn't seem to know much about their subjects and clearly weren't interested in learning more. And the kids were right: their teachers were every bit as bored as they were.

Boredom is the common condition of schoolteachers, and anyone who has spent time in a teachers' lounge can vouch for the low energy, the whining, the dispirited attitudes, to be found there. When asked why they feel bored, the teachers tend to blame the kids, as you might expect. Who wouldn't get bored teaching students who are rude and interested only in grades? If even that. Of course, teachers are themselves products of the same twelve-year compulsory school programs that so thoroughly bore their students, and as school personnel they are trapped inside structures even more rigid than those imposed upon the children. Who, then, is to blame?

We all are. My grandfather taught me that. One afternoon when I was seven I complained to him of boredom, and he batted me hard on the head. He told me that I was never to use that term in his presence again, that if I was bored it was my fault and no one else's. The obligation to amuse and instruct myself was entirely my own, and people who didn't know that were childish people, to be avoided if possible. Certainly not to be trusted. That episode cured me of boredom forever, and here and there over the years I was able to pass on the lesson to some remarkable student. For the most part, however, I found it futile to challenge the official notion that boredom and childishness were the natural state of affairs in the classroom. Often I had to defy custom, and even bend the law, to help kids break out of this trap.

The empire struck back, of course; childish adults regularly conflate opposition with disloyalty. I once returned from a medical leave to discover that all evidence of my having been granted the leave had been purposely destroyed, that my job had been terminated, and that I no longer possessed even a teaching license. After nine months of tormented effort I was able to retrieve the license when a school secretary testified to witnessing the plot unfold. In the meantime my family suffered more than I care to remember. By the time I finally retired in 1991, I had more than enough reason to think of our schools - with their long-term, cell-block-style, forced confinement of both students and teachers - as virtual factories of childishness. Yet I honestly could not see why they had to be that way. My own experience had revealed to me what many other teachers must learn along the way, too, yet keep to themselves for fear of reprisal: if we wanted to we could easily and inexpensively jettison the old, stupid structures and help kids take an education rather than merely receive a schooling. We could encourage the best qualities of youthfulness - curiosity, adventure, resilience, the capacity for surprising insight - simply by being more flexible about time, texts, and tests, by introducing kids to truly competent adults, and by giving each student what autonomy he or she needs in order to take a risk every now and then.

But we don't do that. And the more I asked why not, and persisted in thinking about the "problem" of schooling as an engineer might, the more I missed the point: What if there is no "problem" with our schools? What if they are the way they are, so expensively flying in the face of common sense and long experience in how children learn things, not because they are doing something wrong but because they are doing something right? Is it possible that George W. Bush accidentally spoke the truth when he said we would "leave no child behind"? Could it be that our schools are designed to make sure not one of them ever really grows up?

Distance Education Degree

A distance education degree is a great way for a student or person in the job force to expand his education or achieve a first time education without taking the time to attend classes on a college campus.

These types of educational opportunities offer a wide variety of choices and experiences for students, such as a long list of program paths, levels of educational goals (certificates, Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, and even Doctorates), and length of time to finish the distance education degrees program.

However, receiving an education through the Internet requires more concentration, discipline, and organizational skills than with attending traditional schools. The homework won't be harder and the classes won't be longer, but the student will need to discipline himself to get the homework done on time and limit the many interruptions found in studying at home. The student will also need to be able to gather information from reading material rather than through having a teacher explain it in a classroom setting.

This discipline is essential because the student is actually "running his own school" at home. A distance education degree offers the great flexibility of being able to work a day job, take care of the kids, and go to school at the same time.

The last thing a school wants is their dropout rate to increase, and the last thing a student wants is to waste money on a course path that he doesn't complete, so the prospective student should carefully examine the problems inherent in choosing this option. Many schools will help their students organize their classes to achieve the goal of completion.

These school counselors want to see students succeed and recognize the particular problems in working through the Internet. Keep in mind that some distance education degrees may require some on-site class time. Internships, lab classes, or other hands-on learning may require the student to attend a few traditional classes. Students should research as many distance education degrees as possible to find one that will suit all their needs.

10 Megatrend About Studying

10 megatrend to learn about at this time and to the future. When it comes to your currency, your money, you can do something to change that situation, nobody else is going to do it for you, well, unless someone put you in their will and left you a wad of cash, I do not know many people that get that lucky though, do you? In this article I want to talk with you some more about getting your currency education or lack thereof. This stuff is very important and if you can ever find the time to start researching it more thoroughly, your life could possibly change and maybe even fairly quickly, who knows right?

Your future is in your hands and yes sometimes we are handed our fair share of troubles and heartaches but somehow we manage to strive forward, pushing ourselves to the limits. Strength is something that all of us have but some of us just tend to get lost in all of the stresses of life, work, family and ofcourse, finances. It can be very difficult to handle at times but I totally assure you that if you start now, educating yourself more and more, especially about things such as currency, your life will change, the way that you think will slowly start to change, you will begin to see things in a much different light. When you realize that your finances can improve gradually over a period of time and that life does not always have to be that complicated, you will obviously start showing tons of signs of overall life changes and improvements and it will more than likely be quite noticeable to your friends and family, as well as to yourself. Whenever you do look into the mirror, at that point in time, you will finally begin to really understand what all of that talk was about, concerning the importance of currency and financial stability.

Education itself is extremely important and most of us are taught that from a very young age and we continue knowing that throughout life. We are very fortunate individuals, blessed with so many amazing opportunities but one thing that you do need to remember is to never, under any circumstances, take life for granted. You could have it all one day and then the next it could all just disappear right before your eyes, before you even realize what is happening. I know that sounds very depressing but I am just wanting to express to you just how important currency education really is. Be strong and stay focused, even through those bumpy times, it will improve, if you just give it a little bit of time and a whole lot of patience. Start browsing through the internet to make sure that you have learned all there is to learn about currency, oh wait, it is not possible to learn too much.

Driver Education

From the beginning, starting with your first contact with whatever is connected to driving and cars, you must have heard of the utmost important aspect:the car insurance. To a certain extent the driver education must deal with this aspect which is vital for the driver and the car in itself.

There are many companies specialized in this field but you should know that there are many of them which make certain advantageous offers such as discounts for the good grades As and Bs, yet, for that you need to qualify;you should get in touch with your insurance company for it.Some discounts are given also for the application for some driver programs, these being quite advantageous too.

In addition, if you can make a choice, replace the new teen driver or family driver on the oldest and least expensive automobile. This can and will save you the rates. Whenever thinking about buying a new or second-hand car, make sure you get in touch with your insurance company to see if the rate will suit you and your finances. It is likely for you, without checking with the insurance company, to think over a car which is too expensive for you or just not suitable. As general piece of information, you should know that sports cars or other high-cost cars are due to have higher rates, thus disabling you to pay in time. It is also important to know what you buy. If you want to buy a car, it is utmost necessary to know what that car can do. These technical aspects can be revealed to you by means of a driver education course or just specialized magazines, provided you already bear the basic information.

Another aspect is the one related to the crash safety rating, because a percentage is given to every car according to this issue. You should always know how safe is the car you are driving, how well it can protect you. As well as the other aspects, you can learn this from the driver education course. In the unfortunate case of an accident, you should be aware of the average cost to repair it, in the case of the one-side insurance. If you want to replace your insurance check the rates of a greater number of companies because they vary from one company to another.

Furthermore, every driver education course introduces the idea of the necessity to keep a camera with you in case an accident may occur;you could register the damage of all cars and the real placement. There are cases when the actual victim is found responsible for the simple fact that there are a lot of ideas and beliefs which alter the truth of an accident. A camera may come in hand if you get involved in a minor accident;you may want to get your car fixed without reporting it to the company. For a teenager, even a minor accident may lead to an increase in the rates, or maybe even more.

What Is Character Education

Every parent wants their child to develop positive character
traits. One way to supplement your child's character
education is to act as a filter for the movies and
television shows your child watches, and to review the books
your child reads.

The following categories are
modeled after "The Book of Virtues for Young People," an
excellent book for children in its own right, written by
William Bennett. When developing a curriculum of character
education for your child, it's helpful to review each
children's book, television show, and movie for both
positive and negative examples of each of the ten virtues
outlined in "The Book of Virtues for Young People." The
stronger the message, the more it will contribute to your
child's character education.

Following are some ways
in which the virtues can manifest as character traits in
children's books, movies, and in television
shows:

Self-Discipline: A character discusses his
feelings of anger rather than impulsively striking out. Or,
a character gets his chores done before he goes out to play.

Compassion: A character understands the pain or
suffering of a friend, and steps in to help, even when it
means she can't attend the party she was looking forward to.

Responsibility: A character admits it was his
baseball that broke the window, and offers to pay for a
replacement. Or, a character keeps her promise to babysit
her younger sister, even though she'd rather go to the
movies with her friends.

Friendship: A character
stands up for her friend in front of her peers, even though
it's not popular. Or, a character befriends the class bully
in an effort to get him to change his ways.

Work: A
character approaches her job with a positive attitude, and
does her very best even when her boss is being unfair. Or, a
character makes up a game to get through an unpleasant task,
and takes pride in her work even though it goes unnoticed.

Courage: A character is afraid of the raging waters,
but takes the risk and dives in to save her family. Or, a
character stands up for what he believes in, even though
it's unpopular.

Perseverance: A character continues
to strive to make the basketball team, even though he's a
foot shorter than the other players. Or, a family works
together to keep their home, even though the father has lost
his job and the mother is ill.

Honesty: A character
admits to himself that he isn't trying his hardest. Or, a
character talks to an adult about a friend in trouble, even
though the friend will get angry at her.

Loyalty: A
character sticks with his losing soccer team in the hope of
helping them become better, rather than joining a winning
soccer team. Or, a character stays at her friend's side
during a serious illness or hardship.

Faith: A
character reaches out to God to help him in his time of
need.

When evaluating character traits and virtues
in kids' books, movies, and television shows, also look at
negative behavioral influences. Ideally, these influences
will be minimal. Consider, for example:

Violence:
Does the character hurt himself, another person, or an
animal through his words or actions, and does he act without
remorse?

Profanity: Does the character use foul
language, sexual language, or take God's name in vain?

Nudity: Does the movie, television show, or book
show or describe suggestive styles of dress or partially
clothed or nude characters?

Sexual Content: Do the
characters engage in implied or overt sexual behavior, or do
they engage in aberrant sexual behavior?

Drugs,
Alcohol, and Tobacco: Do the characters use or abuse legal
or illegal substances?

Scary Elements: Are the
scenarios depicted gratuitously frightening?

Negative Behaviors: Does the character show
disrespect to his parents? Or, does he neglect his homework?
Or, does he frighten other children?

By evaluating
both the positive character traits and negative behaviors of
movies, television shows, and books, and selecting those
that reinforce the values and virtues that are important to
you, you'll go far in developing your child's character
education.

What Is College Consultants ?

College consultants are individuals who help students, along with their family members, to help decide on which college would be best for them. They will provide the student and family with all of the information necessary, when hoping to choose the right college for their most promising academic and social growths. They are truly knowledgeable on the educational opportunities that await you. They will also offer more one on one time to discuss with the student what it is that they feel they are interested most in and will then guide them through the proper processes necessary to achieve their goals.

College consultants have the same things in mind when attempting to place a student in the best environment to where the student can begin learning how to meet their goals and be able to achieve success while doing so. The consultants are there for the students to gain the confidence they will need in order to move forward, towards their educational dreams and expectations. Some of these college counselors may also offer free advice on some occasions, for the students purposes of gathering the information that they will need to prepare themselves for the road ahead.

These consultants are available to you for helping you better understand your options, when trying to choose from several different universities. They will discuss with you all of the different things you should consider when figuring out which one has more to offer to you, for your needs. Deciding which university you will be attending can be very challenging and complicated at times but by hiring a college consultant to take care of all of these tedious things for you, and explaining it in an easier manner of understanding, you are allowing yourself to focus on you and your goals, without all of the stresses that can come from trying to make a decision such as this. Having a consultant will help in speeding up the processes, when it comes to planning on achieving your goals that have been laid out before you.

Qualified college consultants can assure you that any information that you provide to them will remain confidential and private, no matter what. You can trust that they are there to help you and your family through this difficult and important time in your life, they want what is best for you, just as your family members and yourself want. Some of these fees can add up substantially if you are not careful. So, when choosing a college consultant, make sure you inquire about the costs that will apply once their work with you is completed. Even though some of what they can offer you may be done, free of charge, there will be other fees added on before your time is up with them. Just know that no matter the cost of the college consultant, it will be so worth it in the end, because the results that can come from having a college consultant can be unbelievable.

Find Online Educational Games For Your Children

Some parents feel that the video games available now days are just a bit too graphic and violent for their young, impressionable children, so they are spending time trying to find a place that offers fun games to children, without all of those negative influences. It will also give you the opportunity to sit down with your child and interact with them by playing their online educational games with them, either helping them out or just watching them play and enjoy themselves. It is supported by the fact that you can apply for the student loan anytime during the grace period or even on the repayment period. But to consolidate student loans, some considerations must be paid attention. To consolidate student loans, you should know that it usually take place during your grace period.

At this moment, the lower in-school interest rate will then be applied to estimate the weighted average fixed rate to consolidate student loans. And once the grace period has ended on your government student loans, the higher in-repayment interest rate will be applied to estimate the weighted average fixed rate. Given such process, it is then understandable that your fixed interest rate for government student loan consolidation will be higher if you consolidate student loans after your grace period.

And when you are interested to consolidate student loans, you should know that even of your student loans are already in repayment, to consolidate student loans is still allowed and beneficial. It is for the reason that when you consolidate student loans at this time, you already fix the interest rate on your government student loans while the rates are still originally low.

As presented, student loan consolidation can help most borrowers in many ways. But, it is still necessary to note that rates won’t actually stay low without end. In fact, they are so low now and the only place for rates to go is up. So, if you are on your way out of college, saving every cent you can in today’s tough job market is worth considering. And, regardless of the situation you are in to right now, consolidating your college loans is a practical decision.

New York City Educational Entertainment

Learning opportunities abound in New York City. These opportunities are not all in boring atmospheres or hallowed halls of learning but in interactive experiences that are widely available to young and old alike in many brightly lit and fun to explore corners of this great city. We are never too old for learning and we can never have too much fun. Whether you are young, have youngsters of your own, or are simply young at heart, New York City has a lot of entertaining ways to educate you.

Perhaps one of the neatest things to do in New York City is to pay a visit to the FDNY Fire Zone. General admission is free but if you wish to experience a Fire-Simulation presentation there are nominal fees involved (currently under $5 per person). The Fire Zone is a state of the art facility where fire safety is taught. Kids, big and little alike, enjoy the fact that they can actually put their hands the equipment, try on the gear, and work with parents to establish an escape plan for their homes. Most importantly children to can learn what to do in this situation rather than being paralyzed by fear. This is one place that really should be on your list of places to visit while in New York City, the price is certainly nice and it could save a life.

The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is another great place to spend a few hours and learn about the many different aspects of art, comics, and cartoons and what kind of role they have played in recording the history of our world. They offer different exhibitions at different times so this is a place you could definitely visit often in order to get the maximum enjoyment from the process. The hours for this particular museum are different than the average so be sure to make sure they will open to the public on the day and time you wish to visit. Current admission rates are $3 for children and adults over the age of 12.

Mount Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden is another great place to learn, this time it's about history. This building is steeped in history and was once the home of the daughter of President Adams. Take a walk through history inside this lovely home turned hotel and then stroll around in the gardens outside. If you feel a need to get away from the big city while remaining in the big city this is a great place to visit and feel the air around you and forget about the fact that the nearest mall is actually very close by.

The Brooklyn Children's Museum is great fun for kids of all ages, shapes, sizes, and nationalities. Fun after all, is a universal language and you will find plenty of that here. The good news is that this particular fun is actually well disguised education. The Brooklyn Children's Museum was the very first museum of its kind, by that I mean the first museum that was dedicated to entertaining and educating children. It was a wildly successful experiment that is responsible for the 300 children's museums now located around the world. The admission is very reasonable at $5 per person and children under the age of 1 are free. The museum is closed on Mondays during July and August and on Mondays and Tuesdays for the remainder of the year with the exception of certain public school recesses. It is best to check with the Museum if you are uncertain and hoping for a Tuesday visit.

The New York Hall of Science is another great learning experience that is available here. There is so much to do and see here and most importantly you get to play with many exciting new toys and such. Enjoy activities and exhibits that bring the science to magic and prove that they are not exactly mutually exclusive. Magic is after all, in the eye of the beholder. Exhibitions change frequently and always offer something fun for everyone. There are age appropriate activities for children and the science playground ($3 per person admission fee above the museum admission fee of $11 per adult and $8 per child is required for the playground) is always a big hit. Now you're off to an excellent educational experience that everyone in your family will think was simply fun.

After School Program

So, your child is beginning to get restless and make you restless. He has got more time than is good for him, and you are now considering after school programs - anything that will keep him busy for a few life-saving hours! Most after school activities can be broadly classified into three - recreational, educational and society-oriented. The last bit usually comes in when your child is already a bit grown up and can voice his own interests.

Educational activities aim at furthering the knowledge of your child. His general awareness, his understanding and his memory are targeted and he is given various techniques that will help him improve one or all of these. Programs such as intensive memory training and speed mathematics are educational after school activities. There are academic programs that will go over your child's homework and class work and help the child gain more in-depth knowledge in the various subjects. Thus academic programs have a definite edge over the fun and games, especially if parents feel that their child has a lot of catching up to do.

Recreational activities include sports and games, fine arts, painting etc. The main thrust here is to have fun. Of course, classes become more competitive as the child climbs up the ladder. Many sport events, competitions, stage performances etc are held to encourage the child.

When we compare the merits of the two kinds of activities, I believe that the recreational programs have more meat. Firstly, children do not enjoy learning unless they themselves feel curious about something. Most academic programs are standardized courses that are not too flexible. They have a general purpose and a well laid out methodology. After a number of hours at school, the child may feel bored. Further study may overwhelm him and make him feel frustrated. Burnout is very much a possibility here.

Recreational programs provide a welcome break from the monotony of learning and studies. The mental challenge and the physical exertion make the child feel a renewed zest and a pleasant sense of fulfillment. Group activity teaches him social skills, discipline and patience. It is a proven fact that children involved in extra curricular activities get better grades than others. Sometimes closing the textbooks and playing a game may be the best way to handle your studies.

Whatever program you choose for your child, regular evaluation is the key to success. You will have to measure the child's progress. If progress is unsatisfactory, shift your child out of the program. The child should also have the freedom to reject an activity if and when he feels bored with it. Generally, programs that combine the educational with the recreational are best suited especially for younger children. This way, children can have fun while they learn.

Learn To Speak French Free

Do you know that you can now learn to speak French free online? Learning is important activity that entrepreneurs must do every day. Entrepreneurs must not go to school or campus to add their knowledge. They can get information from books or Internet, beside as an entrepreneur some time has idea to build Home library. People some time tend to think that build home library need a lot of money and difficult to design. It is easy to build and design it, let’s begin now.

1. Collecting books.
Perhaps, it is boring time to look for your old books that spread every where. To collect your spreading books, help to remind you off title and contain of your old books and beginning to write down and making classification.

2. To choose right place.
We do not need new building to create home library. We only need your own decision to choose the right place around your home. You can create near your bedroom, living room, near dining room, or perhaps near your kitchen. If your home or apartment is so small, choose in the corner place is wiser.

3. It won't happen today. There are two reasons why. College scholarship opportunities have grown
tremendously and the cost of an undergraduate education continues to go up and up with no relief in sight. The value of a four-year military academy degree is now at $323,450. Who could afford that? Thankfully, West Point, Annapolis and the Air Force Academy are free to the students. That's one giant government scholarship. Can a half-million dollar tuition be far behind?

Tuition and fees for a handful of private universities and colleges already top a quarter million, and many more are well over a hundred and fifty big ones.

A helpless father called for suggestions because his son’s first year tuition, majoring in engineering, would be almost $40,000. One year! Scary? You bet! Another dad told me that his son would graduate next year owing $51,761.

Will the total college bill reach a million dollars? Not likely. But, with the birth of the Internet, it is just a matter of time until someone takes up the challenge and amasses a million bucks in scholarship awards. Yes, it can be done. There is no limit to the number of scholarships any one person can win. It can be done by surfing, exploring and utilizing the Internet.

There are five important keys to Internet scholarship search success: persistence, persistence, persistence, persistence and
creativity. Millions of dollars in scholarships are on the net with millions and millions of dollars to be handed out. Why not to you?

Be sure to check out the U.S. Department of Education websites, and the 50 state education sites. Look hard at colleges and universities that you might want to attend. Consider unions, service groups, associations, and social organizations. Look for websites that emphasize a particular skill or talent you may have or wish to acquire.

There are also great opportunities for minorities, Native Americans, African-Americans and Senior Citizens. Add those words to "scholarships" and watch the magic begin.

Use a variety of search engines. Investigate every website that offers free information about scholarships. Substitute the word "grants" for "scholarships" and search again.

Check out the following words and terms to get started. Switch the words around. Use college financial aid, free college scholarships and free scholarships. When you find a website that you want to keep, bookmark it as a favorite in your browser. In college, aiming to simply earn a passing grade in each course is not enough. What you may not realize is that your GPA can follow you for years after you have graduated college, attesting to your determination and ethic to potential employers. Though an employer may not rely solely on your GPA to assess whether you should be considered further for a job opportunity, a respectable GPA certainly speaks more highly for your character than having barely fulfilled the minimal requirements of your degree. Not only will a poor GPA be a glaring imperfection on your resume when you enter the workforce, a low GPA could cause you to lose a valuable scholarship or financial aid, or waste valuable student loan funds. Achieving a respectable GPA involves consistent effort and relentless dedication in every single class, and making up for a bad start is more difficult than getting on the right track from the beginning.

One important step toward earning a great GPA is being aware of how your grade is calculated in each class. Each professor should outline the system by which your grade will be calculated at the start of the class, and the grading system can vary greatly from class to class. Be sure that you are aware of each component making up your grade and work to diligently fulfill every requirement. If pop quizzes administered during class make up a percentage of your final grade, attend every single class meeting so you will not miss one. Failing to take advantage of every opportunity to earn credit will hurt your class grade and thus your GPA.

You may need to adjust your study habits to fit each class. Attending every class meeting and diligently paying attention to the professor’s comments about exams will give you an edge when it comes to testing in a particular class. Exam and quiz formats vary greatly, from multiple choice to essay to word problems, and studying in the wrong way can be detrimental. Also important is knowing what material will be covered on each exam. Does the exam strictly cover textbook material, or is all subject matter covered in lecture also fair game? Professors often incorporate a bit of both into their exams, so attending class and taking detailed notes goes a long way.

In addition to knowing grading policies and adapting study habits, earning a high GPA requires that you be consistent. Being prepared sometimes and winging it other times is not a good strategy for building your GPA. Earning a degree is not supposed to be easy, and the students who excel are those who are consistently prepared in every class.

The numerous distractions and temptations surrounding the typical college lifestyle can make it difficult for students to remain focused on their grades. Inevitably, many college freshmen do not make it past the first year. In order to rise to the top in college and beyond, you must set high goals and be relentlessly dedicated to accomplishing them from start to finish.

About the Author: About the Author: Edmund Rogers, a graduate student in English, is the editor for iStudentLoan.com, a student loan and student loan consolidation provider which also supplies a free online resource for learning about and applying for a student loan. This new method of learning which has been introduced is popularly referred to as e-learning or online learning. Increased used of the internet and various forms of multimedia technology has facilitated the growth of online learning and it is estimated that currently the online education industry is worth about 38 billion euros approximately. In the United States itself, 3.5 million students are enrolled in online degree courses. In order to aid the various higher educational institutes in spreading knowledge and information as well as in interacting with the students. These are certain tool s which provide extensive course management options and are known as Learning Management Systems or LMS. There are various such software tools available in the market which plays a very significant role in the spread of online education thus aiding the students in attaining the online degree. Moodle is a free software, a learning management system providing a platform for e-learning and it helps the various educators considerably in conceptualizing the various courses, course structures and curriculum thus facilitating interaction with online students. Moodle was devised by Martin Dougiamas and since its inception, its primary agenda has been to contribute suitably to the system of e-learning and facilitate online education and attainment of online degrees. Moodle actually stands for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment and statistics reveal that about 14million consumers are engaged in about 1.4million courses propagated by this learning management system.

It is to be noted that while Moodle presents certain common features present in almost all similar e-learning tools, there are also certain plug in options that it provides. The various common features of Moodle as an e-learning platform are blogs, chats, database activities, glossaries, support systems enabling the functioning in multiple languages, content management and most importantly constant and regular examination and assessment. The current infrastructure facilities adopted by Moodle enable it to support a plethora of plug-in options like graphical themes and content filters, enrollment and authentication processes as well as resource and question patterns. Any operating system that supports the usage of PHP allows the usage of an e-learning platform like Moodle and some of the systems where Moodle can perform without any alterations include Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, Unix, NetWare etc.

About the Author: Online Degree Inofrmation Source: http://www.an-online-degree-by-distance-learning.com/

What Are The Fastest Growing Careers

If you are a young adult who has recently graduated from high school, you are likely in the process of examining your job prospects. Without further education, you might be able to find a job, but generally speaking will earn less than someone with some degree of higher education. If your current schedule is such that you do not have time to attend classes on campus, you might consider online education. You can earn a range of accredited online college degrees from home, ranging from individual online college courses up to classes used towards completion of a doctoral degree. The online education you have always dreamed about is waiting for you to start, and accredited online schools can help make your dream a reality.

Many adults also face the challenge of changing careers at some point in their lives, or returning to work after an absence. If this describes your situation, you will need to try to fit your schooling in between work and family responsibilities, and this is one circumstance where online classes make returning to school a realistic prospect.

Everyone wants to know which fields offer the fastest growing careers, in order to take the appropriate classes and earn the correct degrees in order to be prepared to work in those fields. The top two career areas with dynamically growing job opportunities are in heath care and business. Based on the most recent figures from the Occupational Outlook Handbook, put out by the United States Department of Labor, there is great job growth for home health aides, medical and physician assistants, physical therapist assistants, and dental hygienists. The top business job growth careers focus on network systems and data communications analysts, and computer software engineers working on applications and systems software.

Many of these jobs require only an Associate or Bachelor's degree, and can often be completed quickly utilizing online courses and fast-track models that move through the material at an efficient pace. An Associate's degree is normally conducted through a community college and generally takes two years to complete. This type of degree from an accredited college can also usually be transfered to a four-year college, and constitutes the first two years of a four-year program leading to a Bachelor's degree.

The Bachelor's degree is the award given for the standard four-year program that is offered at most colleges and universities. You will often take the first two years of general liberal arts studies, and then focus in on your specialization during the final two years of education. Many accredited online schools use the same qualified instructors that you will find on the college campuses for their online courses of study.

Now is a great time to explore your online education options and see how easy it is to fit education back into your life.

About the Author: Anne Harvester decided to return to school for an accredited college degree online. With so many online schools to choose from she was overwhelmed. Researching the job markets gave her a better idea of online degrees were the best option. Knowing the fastest growing careers helped herdecide upon her online education and online college courses.

Princeton – seat of learning

Non-sectarian Princeton University in New Jersey is a revered seat of learning, part of the elite Ivy League conglomeration of eight colleges, and has a long and rich history. Founded in the town of Elizabeth in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, this premier educational establishment was relocated to Princeton ten years after its formation, but didn’t change its name to reflect its new location until some 150 years later.

The original university’s building - the Nassau Hall - forms the centre point of today’s campus. It has been added to and changed function many times over the years, but still retains its original façade. During the college’s 150 year anniversary in 1896, Princeton adopted the title of Woodrow Wilson’s keynote speech: “Princeton in the nation’s service” as its informal motto. Wilson was then a faculty member, but six years later became the University’s 13th President and immediately set about enlarging and improving the college. Plans for a graduate school were finalized during his term of office and Wilson also doubled the size of the faculty. His vision and plans formed the basis of the university’s expansion and development for the remainder of the 20th Century. Indeed, during 1996-97 Princeton celebrated its 250th birthday, expanding its motto to include: “and in the service of all nations” reflecting the worldwide distribution of its alumni.

From its humble beginnings based around Nassau Hall, Princeton has now expanded to a 600 acre campus incorporating over 160 buildings and boasting 1,200 faculty members. There are over six million books residing on over seventy miles of shelving in the prestigious Princeton ‘Firestone’ library, and although the university traditionally focused on undergraduate education it has latterly turned to also providing Masters Degrees and PHDs as it increases its graduate education prospectus.

The college became Co-ed in 1969 when women were first admitted to this prestigious seat of learning, and today there are close to 4,750 undergraduates and 2,300 graduate students studying at Princeton. Most of the undergraduates and close to two-thirds of the graduate students live on campus. The university encourages parents to become actively involved with their children’s progress at the school starting with Freshman enrolment where parents are invited to join their sons and daughters at Freshman Parents Weekend. It is normally held in the first weekend of October when, as you can imagine, it’s virtually impossible to get a room at a hotel in Princeton.

Although in university terms it is a relatively small institution, Princeton is one of the nation’s leading research educational establishments and continues to maintain its reputation for excellence and quality; one that has endured over its 260 year history.

About the Author: Adam Singleton is an online freelance journalist from Scotland. In todays world it easy to obtain higher education by attending college online. Many of us don't have time to devote to a full-time traditional school, so earning an online Bachelors degree has become increasingly popular. This is only one of the many benefits of a college education online. While those with only a high school diploma might earn one million dollars over the course of their working lifetime, those with a Bachelor's degree can earn over twice that much, and those with a Master's or Doctoral degree can earn up to three and four times over a person with a high school diploma alone. This is a benefit of college education, and you might be considering returning to college in order to obtain that bachelor's degree. You can do so efficiently and quickly by looking into college education online. You can browse your preferred college online to determine the programs and courses they offer, as well as ensure that they are fully accredited. You will discover that you can earn an online bachelor degree at your own pace, fitting it around your schedule, when you take online classes.

Not only are there monetary benefits over the course of your working career when you have obtained higher education. When you have the proper education, this training and background allows you to move up at your current place of employment. Many jobs require continuing education courses in order to keep licenses and certification up to date, and online courses for these purposes can also often be applied toward completion of a bachelor's degree. Some occupations also reward employees who receive further education with pay raises and jobs with greater responsibility and privilege, so earning a bachelor's degree can help in their pursuit as well.

If you are wanting to switch careers, returning to school is a likely outcome of that choice, in order to receive the appropriate training you will need for the career change. You may not wish to leave your current job, however, until your schooling is complete. This is another benefit of earning an online bachelor's degree: you can obtain a quality education from the comfort of your home, on your time schedule and at your pace. Many college courses allow ample time for the completion of assignments, so you can fit them into your schedule as it suits you.

Another reason why online college courses are popular pertains to the quality of instruction you will receive. Many online courses are affiliated with accredited colleges and universities that also offer classes on campus. Many of these courses are taught by the same faculty that teach the campus classes, so you will be getting the same quality instruction as if you were attending campus-based classes.

Earning an online bachelor's degree also allows you to attend the school of your choice located anywhere in the world. The Internet provides a world of education at your fingertips that you can access anywhere you have Internet access or a WiFi hotspot, so you are not limited to nearby colleges and universities alone.

About the Author: Anne Harvester works as a career and life coach in Southern California. She recommends the benefits of an online education to many adults. In todays world, it is a simple process to get started with your Bachelors degree online. One reason for doing a wide search like this is to find more than one accredited college that offers complete Internet programs. Most of the colleges and schools today are offering more and more programs with complete Internet tuition to make it easier for students. There are also schools that offer certificates that are not accredited. While the information is valid and helpful to you getting your career started, accredited schools and colleges are not going to recognize these courses. This may matter later down the road when you are seeking a degree program for your career.

When you are choosing online education universities you will want to make sure it is accredited just in case you wish to return to school later on for a different degree or a higher level of degree. This is where your first option is going to come in. Your second option is going to be whether the Internet College has the degree program you are interested in. Right now most Internet tuition centers are on technology, business, healthcare, education, and sometimes law.

Once you have found the Internet tuition programs you are looking for at the colleges, you will want to apply to at least three of them. Most often you will be accepted to all of them if you have the proper requirements for those colleges, such as GPA, SAT scores and the like. At this point you will be able to choose the online education university that you want. This could be based on your financial resources, if they have a campus near you, and whether you like the technology they use for your online degree program.

About the Author: Brenda is the owner of Online {{{Degree|School|Diploma}} website. If you are intimidated about going back as an adult and are worried about being the only person over 25, don’t despair. According to statistics, since 1998 the number of adult learns has increased 41 percent making over 2.9 million students over the age of 35 going back to college.

If you are planning to go back to college, here are a few things to consider:

1. Flexibility is key. Many colleges and universities offer flexible course scheduling with classes offered nights and weekends. This means that if you are holding down a job while going back to school, you can often tailor your courses around your work. If you have children, many institutions offer campus childcare services. A third thing to remember is that you do not have to go back to school full time; your course load can remain minimal. But, if you are looking for financial aid, you may be required to take a specific amount of hours.

2. Make more money. The higher your education the higher your salary. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, employees with a high school diploma averaged $27,915 a year while those with a bachelor’s degree earned $51,206. Individuals with master’s degrees averaged $74,602. Statistics also show that seventy five percent of future positions will require at least some type of certification or licensure.

3. You didn’t graduate from high school. If you did not graduate from high school but received your G.E.D., don’t despair. Over 97 percent of colleges accept students with a G.E.D. diploma.

4. How will I pay? Paying for college through scholarships and financial aid is much of an option to adults as it is those just graduating from high school. There are various forms of grants and low interest loans that are offered regardless of your grade point average, financial need or credit history.

5. How will I get there? If your community does not have a college and you don’t have time to commute, there are now options. Courses today can be taken online or through distance learning programs. Check with the college or university you are interested in to discuss these options. Remember, if you take distance courses through institutes outside of your state, it may be more costly. You will get a financial break staying with a school in state.

6. Do your homework. After identifying what school you would like to attend, make an appointment with the academic advisor. Be prepared to have a few things with you such as old transcripts – that is if you have attended any college prior. Also, do some homework on what field of study you are interested in. The Occupational Outlook Handbook can help you develop an idea of what types of jobs are out there.

7. Testing. Be prepared to take entrance exams. Although you are not required to take admissions tests such as the SAT or ACT, there are placement tests colleges require for English and Math.

8. Check if your life experiences count for credit. Last, ask whether the institute you want to attend offers credits for life experience. Many schools do this through exams such as CLEP or DANTES. These are called ‘life experience credits’.

About the Author: Kara Lilly, a Librarian for over 15 years in College Park, creates the Eduology for schoolwork.org, a leading provider of homework help, college directories with satellite maps and a comprehensive breakdown of student loans. Extensive research and discussion are necessary to make a wise decision. But, how do you tell whether homeschooling is the correct choice for your children?

Here are 6 questions to ask yourself if you are thinking about homeschooling as a possibility for your children.

1. Am I comfortable spending virtually all of my day with my children?

An important reason for selecting homeschooling is often that parents love their children and want what is thought to be best for them. They also really do like spending time together with their children, which is important as you will certainly be spending almost all of your time with them. If you find that your children aggrevate you fairly easily then homeschooling might not be a good match for you.

2. Will questions worry me?

Homeschooling parents are normally confronted with a lot of questions about such things as which curriculum they are using and concerning the affect that homeschooling has on their childrens' development of sound social skills. If you choose to homeschool your children then it will certainly help if you do not have difficulty with answering the same questions frequently.

3. Where can I turn to find out everything I need to know about homeschooling?

Check out books from your local public library where there is almost certainly a large selection of books that will provide you with everything you will need to know. The library staff might even be able to tell you whether there are any homeschoolers in the local area, because virtually all homeschoolers are heavily reliant upon the local library for teaching materials.

4. Is there going to be some sort of support system available?

Finding support groups of other local homeschoolers is very important and is often be done by getting onto the internet and searching for 'homeschool groups in (your state)' or 'homeschooling groups in (your state)'. Homeschooling co-ops are available in a lot of places as well as plenty opportunities for families to get together and have some fun.

5. What do I do when I have other questions?

Having found some families that already homeschool you ought to ask them about the advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling. The majority of parents will be frank about their reasons for choosing homeschooling and will be quite happy to recount their experience and help you in making an informed decision. Question them about the sorts of difficulties they came across when starting out and about such things as how you should go about choosing a curriculum and whether you should be worried about socialization for your children.

6.
