It can be hard, though, when we can't seem to steer our attention away from the things that hold us back. It then becomes difficult to shift our focus to what's ahead. The apostle Paul had plenty of reasons to stay in the past but he chose to leace that behind and "press on to the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ." Pastor Brian will share a message challenging us to do the same. We will also celebrate the Lord's Supper together and spend time focusing on what Jesus has done for us in order to help us get free of our past. Join us for our service at 10:45 am. A warm welcome awaits you on this first day of March!</EM></DIV></DIV></DIV><div class="blogger-post-footer"><br/></div>

The Path of Right Living -- Feb.22, 2015

<DIV dir=ltr> <DIV style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri'; COLOR: #000000"> <DIV><EM>When it come to achieving a life of righteousness, if we are not careful, we may think it is all up to us. What I mean is that we may think our efforts and hard work will pay off in convincing God that we are living the way He desires. However, the Bible tells a different story, emphasizing the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross as the only true pathway to a life of righteousness, or right living. The world's way is to tell us to be all you can be and reach within for that extra something. The apostle Paul saw both sides of this dilemma and realized that only one way worked. Pastor Brian will share a message showing us what this great apostle learned, and how we can benefit from his example. With everyone's lives so busy, church work often is not a priority and can sometimes only garner the bottom of the barrel as far as effort and commitment are concerned. In today's message, Pastor Brian will highlight the lives of 2 great men who exemplify what it means to be a true follower of Christ. The apostle Paul understood this very well while writing to the church in Philippi while he was in prison, not knowing whether he would ever get out. What can we learn from his example? Well, in the first chapter of the Book of Philippians, the apostle Paul gives an outline of the characteristics of a solid church. Pastor Brian will begin a sermon series today on this powerful New Testament book, chock full of practical stuff for the Christian life today. You are warmly invited to attend the 10:45 am worship service to hear a message from God's Word and celebrate the Lord's death and resurrection at the communion table. The reason the angel's message was one that was "good news of great joy" was that it announced the birth of the One who would one day die on the cross to take our sins away. It was God's great love that sent Jesus to earth on that first Christmas night in Bethlehem, but it was that same love that also sent Him to the cross to pay sin's debt. The two are inseparable. Join us this Sunday at 10:45 am as we sing the familiar carols and hear a message from God's Word that details this great love of our God. You are alos invited to come back in the evening for a special Christmas program, starting with a light supper at 5:00 pm, followed by a drama and musical presentation. Happiness is a surface emotion based on circumstances, while joy is a fruit of the spirit that goes much deeper, beyond present circumstances. True joy cannot be touched by the adversity and trials we face. At Jesus' birth the angel announced that he had a message of "good news of great joy" which was for all people. If that message was indeed for "all people" then that means you and me. Many view the church as a consumer, looking for what it can offer them through programs and resources. However, the teaching of Jesus is very clear: we are called to serve. Pastor Brian will examine the words of Jesus on this subject and share insights from God's Word on how we can improve our serve. What I mean is, do you love the people who attend your church? Sometimes our desire for the Lord and our commitment to following Him can become soiled because of the behaviour we must deal with amongst His people. Hey, sometimes we are the problem! Personally, I know many outside the church who once had a connection but now won't attend due to all the "hypocrites" that are there. I see this point, but must say that making a commitment to follow the Lord and serve Him can help to make us "blind" to the things we think are so bothersome. Pastor Brian will share a message from God's Word that highlights the need for us to LOVE the church, Christ's bride. Come and join us at our 10:45 am service this Sunday! On this special weekend where we celebrate Thanksgiving here in Canada it is a good time for us to renew our focus on being thankful. In Scripture David is described as "a man after God's own heart." He knew how to render thanksgiving unto His God, and Psalm 138 is a good example of that. Pastor Brian will share some of David's insights from this portion of the Bible in his message. We hope you will plan to join us for our 10:45 am worship service. This Sunday we will look at how each of us can do our part to contribute to the whole. We were not all made the same, but it is this dynamic diversity that allows each of us to contribute and also benefit from the others to get God's work done. Sometimes prayer is one of those things. We are content to just send up a quick "bless this, Lord" or "be with so-and-so" and then rush off to the next thing on our list. However, it is important to pray with precision. God wants us to be specific in the things we ask of Him. Pastor Brian will tackle this subject in his message this Sunday at our 10:45am service. On the one hand, He may appear to be harsh and austere, stingy with who He is going to let into heaven. On the other hand, there are those who see Him as a great big, soft teddy bear who overlooks anything that is amiss and just rolls out the red carpet to heaven. Both of these views are wrong. God does have standards to live by, but He also is merciful and forgiving. Jesus took the blame for our sins so that His love could be lavished on us in forgiveness. Grace, the unmerited favour and goodness of God towards us, is not an unattainable goal nor a cheap dollar store commodity. It is God's ability working in us what we could not do ourselves. Come and learn more about this incredible gift of grace this Sunday at our 10:45am worship service. We will follow the message up with a time at the Lord's Table. We often choose what to do based on either the urgency of the moment, or the importance of the task. If those two collide it is often the urgent that trumps the most important. But is that going to be the best choice in the long run? The early church was faced with one of these situations during the time of its most explosive growth. What to do, what to do? Pastor Brian will unpack this dilemma in the message from the Book of Acts. Please join us for a time of worship and study in God's Word.
