Switzer Clubsport Nissan GT-R

When most people in the US here "track", they think oval or drag, however the guys at Switzer Performance think curves. The Clubsport Version of their USE(Ulimate Street Edition) Nissan GT-R puts out nearly 1000 horsepower, and adds in the parts to make it a truck track monster. Brakes, suspension, bodywork, tires, and seats combine to drop weight and improve track times.

We can never escape that question,” said Tym, laughing at last week’s Switzer trackday meet-up at Mid-Ohio that served as the new ClubSport’s first public showing. “We don’t have it easy, either. Our clients expect more than a quarter-mile time when they talk about ‘the track’. We have to be able to meet and exceed their expectations on the road, at the drag strip, and at places like this.”

The ClubSport GTR combines the Switzer-built Ultimate Street Edition engine and turbocharger upgrades with Switzer’s big brake package, a track biased suspension system, lightweight, downforce-generating bodywork, and lightweight, composite racing seats. The ClubSport is further separated from the standard USE by it’s more track-oriented Toyo R888 tires and a more aggressive carbon-nano brake pad compound that’s specially formulated to reduce fade and improve bite.

Top Gear : NISMO Nissan GT-R to Be Fastest Yet

2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition. Expect the NISMO to be based of this version.

Top Gear is releasing some tidbits of information they have gathered on the upcoming NISMO R35 GT-R. They expect the NISMO version of the Nissan GT-R to be able to lap Nurburgring under 7:18. The NISMO should be the "hardest GT-R ever" according to some representatives from Nissan. More power, better aero, lighter weight.

When pushed on power gains, there were some nervous smiles, most probably because rocket science is a risky business. The current GT-R comfortably produces 545bhp and 465lb ft of torque, but Nissan told us the Nismo version will probably produce "more than 570bhp".

Undoubtedly, there will be suspension and aero tweakery too, though we'll have to wait and see. Stay tuned, as Nissan tells us it will appear in the second half of 2014. That, dear Internet, will be the definitive Nismo product, so expect some thunder...

Some of my speculation on what we might see on a 2015 NISMO version of the R35 GT-R. http://www.2009gtr.com/2013/02/nismo-nissan-gt-r-speculation-for-2015.html. Expect close to or 600 horsepower, which should put it into solid 10 second zone in the quarter mile. Off the showroom floor.

New Quickest 1/4 Mile Nissan GT-R : 8.61@170 mph : Now With Videos

About a year ago, a couple of R35's ran 8 second passes within a few days of each other. The AMS car ran a best of 8.62@173 mph, and while going faster, and even pulling the front wheels off the ground just a few days ago, they haven't gone any faster.

However today, at a private track rental, John Shepherd, owner of ShepTrans took his Alpha 12 Nissan GT-R and destroyed the AMS GT-R time. 0.01 quicker. 8.61@170 mph. 1.45 60 foot is ok, good enough to now make this car the quickest R35 GT-R out there.

Running hardware from AMS, Switzer/Syvecs, T1 and others, he was able to put his unique combination in the 8.7's today and running nearly 170mph.

AMS Alpha Omega Nissan GT-R Wheelie At Great Lakes Dragaway

This looks super cool. The AMS Alpha Omega Nissan GT-R pulling the front wheels off the ground on a launch. In real life, it shows great weight transfer, and this thing is really hooking, however its pretty hard on the driveline. For an all wheel drive car, they may need to put some limiter straps on the front to keep the front wheels closer to the ground. Again, sweet shot. They went a best of 8.66@175 mph in the quarter, showing this thing is making huge power.

OMEGA did indeed just go to the track for some testing. Overall the night went well and we learned a lot about the car and our soon to be released upgrades. We've made some changes that drastically increased traction and as a results we pushed past the limits of the driveline components. We will be testing some new parts from Driveshaft Shop that are needed for these incredible launches. These stronger parts are being made and we should receive them soon. Frank and the guys at DSS are consummate professionals and It's been such a pleasure working with them for nearly a decade. They have been a huge help making stronger parts as we continue to push the envelope on the R35 platform.

In addition to the axles we also found the limits of our well used Promax clutch. During every pass the clutch slip on the 2-3 shift would cause us to hit the rev limiter for an extended period of time and in some cases actually shut the run down. We never got the chance to make a clean pass but despite the clutch slip we still netted an 8.66@175.3 with a TON of room for improvement and more power on tap. John shepherd and the boys at Dodson are already working on a solution that will go into place in the very near future so OMEGA can run at full tilt very soon.

On nearly ever pass we were lifting the front tires and we pulled a best 60 foot time of 1.36 seconds! ....OMEGA has traction now

Two Drag R35 GT-R's Make Debut in Australia

Remember the three drag racing R35's from a couple years ago? The black car with an RB26 has been raced several times by Godzilla Racing, and this weekend is the debut for the two TB48(?) powered cars at the FUCH's Winternationals in Austraila. Although looking at their FB page, they look to be working on a VR38DETT.

The two 2012 Nissan Skyline GTR-35s – two of only three in the world – were unveiled this morning during day one of what is the largest drag racing event held outside of the US.

Sporting clean-cut white liveries and twin-turbo V6 motors, the state of the art racing machines will make their on-track debut in time for the 2014 season at the hands of team owner Collin Willshire and racer Kelly Corbett.

At the launch this morning, Willshire – a current racer and committee member for the Factory Xtreme bracket - said the unveiling was all about encouraging a new age for drag racing.

“Jett Racing is all about doing things differently, we want to be a part of taking this great sport of ours into the future,” said Cornubia’s Willshire, who has been a drag strip regular since 1996.

“We are a team that has grown over time, starting small and working very hard for our business with a great passion for what we do, and I think that shows in our approach, our people, and our presentation.

“Over this time we have developed a burning passion for bringing our sport and what we do to new fans, to ‘today’s generation’, by employing the latest approaches, new technology, and state of the art cars.

“That is why our motto is ‘racing aligned with today’s generation’, it is so important that we continue to innovate and that is why I am such a big supporter of the Factory Xtreme bracket, together I think there are great things ahead and I can’t wait to get the new cars on track ready for the 2014 season.”

Corbett, who started racing with Jett Racing late last year, is ‘blown away’ by the chance to take the wheel of her new drag racing machine.

“It was a massive surprise to be offered the opportunity to race in a car like this, I am still totally blown away with the potential of what lies ahead,” said Camira’s Corbett, who stepped up to the Group 2 Super Compact bracket when she joined Jett Racing late in 2012, after years in the Group 3 Modified bracket.

“I am very appreciative of the opportunity Collin and Jett Racing have provided me and I am so very excited about the future - to be part of such an innovative team and a new approach to the sport of drag racing is something I am very proud of.”

Jett Racing is supported by Prime Signs Speed Elec, Turbo by Garrett and Motul. The Cornubia-based outfit of Collin and Katie Willshire will be on-track at Willowbank Raceway this weekend for the FUCHS Winternationals, competing in the Factory Xtreme (Collin Willshire), Super Compact (Kelly Corbett) and Junior Dragster (Jett Willshire) brackets across Friday 7 to Monday 10 June 2013.

AMS Alpha Omega Nissan GT-R Hits 214 MPH

About GT-R
Following performance enhancement last year that upped the horsepower and torque of the GT-R's advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 to 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque, the development and refinement of Nissan's legendary supercar has continued for the 2014 model year.

Among the notable modifications are improved engine response in the mid-and upper-rpm ranges, increased body rigidity and specification changes to the shock absorbers, front anti-roll bar and springs that result in a lower center of gravity. The result is enhanced high-speed handling and more refined ride comfort. As in previous years, the GT-R engine is hand-assembled in a special clean room - for 2014 an aluminum nameplate is added to each engine showing the name of the individual engine builder.

A specially designed 11-speaker Bose® sound system - which provides sound quality suitable for a supercar, is standard - along with a RearView Monitor.

The 2014 Nissan GT-R is available in three models: GT-R Premium, which comes fully equipped with a 545-horsepower engine, dual clutch rear transmission, Nissan Navigation System, custom-designed 11-speaker Bose® audio system, premium near-black finish wheels and heated front seats; the GT-R Black Edition, with special lightweight metallic black aluminum-alloy forged RAYS® wheels, unique red and black interior, Recaro® leather-appointed seats, dark headliner and dry carbon fiber rear spoiler; and the limited production 2-seat Track Model.

Jalopnik and the Nissan GT-R Track Edition : Will it Baby?

Jalopnik answers the ever muttered question of "Will it Baby". Although someone in the comments did mention, its not really a baby, but a toddler. Although I don't really know that cutoff, nor do I want to look it up. The lead picture does say toddler. So if anyone knows the answer to the cutoff between baby and toddler, I really don't need to know. One day someone will tell me, and I will forget it.

The owner of a Miata or a Boxster clearly isn't at the toting-around-a-miniature-human part of their life, but the inability of their cars to even try it is just part of the car's design. It was never meant to do it. But when you have a car that could tote around your partner and your kid and you go out of your way to specify options to make your car less able to do that, that's a pretty good sign you don't want kids. And that's exactly why this may be the best Will It Baby car ever.

Toddlers fit in the trunk of a GT-R. More than one will fit from the looks of it.

"Daddy, go fast? Go fast?" became the refrain every time we got in the car. It's like the California DMV genetically engineered my son to make me lose my license. When I got to a clear stretch of road I'd bury the pedal and both father and son would squeal with idiotic glee as we surged forward

A GT-R is a roller coaster ride. Fast, stiff suspension. Will make a lot of people squeel. This car is a Track Edition. No rear seats, but enough points to be able to secure/duct tape a baby/toddler seat in the back.

Skyline GT-R, The Hard Way : Road and Track Magazine

1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO version.

Thanks to Alex and Chris over at Road and Track for featuring my 1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO version. The car was imported to the US under the Show or Display exemption. Generally under 500 vehicles produced, historically or technologically significant. Nissan made 560 NISMOs, sold 500 to the public. The car is over 21 years old, so it was EPA exempt.

The Russians are at it again. Jury in his 1700 horsepower Alpha 12+ Nissan GT-R just did 237 mph in a standing mile at the Moscow Unlimited 500+. Watch the well produced video below. Car is straight screaming. You can tell its cranked up because it sounds pissed off. Almost sounds like he is spraying on it.

May 2013 Nissan GT-R Sales : 115 Cars

Is it already June? Half way though this year known as 2013. The May 2013 sales figures are out, and Nissan sold 115 Nissan GT-R's in May vs 135 in May 2012. 486 YTD in 2013 vs 479 YTD in 2012, lets call that a push. No bump from the Track Editions that I can see, but perhaps in the next few months we might see how the Track Edition plays out in the US market. The 370Z sold 681 cars down nearly 25%. The all electric Nissan LEAF sold 2138 units, up 319%. Nissan itself was up 31.7 percent, Infiniti down 25.4 percent. A little odd. The G coupe and G sedan were down huge. Everyone waiting for the new Q based cars?

Strong gains by top-selling Nissan models such as Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and Rogue helped Nissan North America set a new May U.S. sales record with 114,457 deliveries, an increase of 24.7 percent over May 2012. The Nissan division also set a new May record, with 106,558 sales, up 31.2 percent over last year. Infiniti sales in May totaled 7,899, led by the best-ever month for the JX crossover.

Nissan Sales Up 24.7% on Record May U.S. Sales

Gains by all-new Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra drive Nissan brand to best-ever May

Strong gains by top-selling Nissan models such as Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and Rogue helped Nissan North America set a new May U.S. sales record with 114,457 deliveries, an increase of 24.7 percent over May 2012. The Nissan division also set a new May record, with 106,558 sales, up 31.2 percent over last year. Infiniti sales in May totaled 7,899, led by the best-ever month for the JX crossover.

Jose Munoz, senior vice president for Sales and Marketing, Nissan Americas said: “We are in the midst of launching five all-new, top-selling Nissan models in 15 months, and the effort is paying off. Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra, the first three of these launches, are up a combined 64.6 percent in May, which shows that our new products are hitting the sweet spot of delivering the innovation, style and value that buyers want.”

Nissan Highlights

Nissan Division sales were up 31.2 percent, setting a new May record with 106,558 deliveries. Nissan division recorded 81,202 sales in May 2012.
Sales of the all-electric Nissan LEAF finished May at 2,138, up 319.2 percent over last year and marking the second-best month ever for LEAF. Since the March launch of the 2013 LEAF, with vehicle and battery assembly in Smyrna, Tenn., Nissan has sold 6,311 LEAF vehicles, up 332.6 percent over the same period in 2012.
Nissan Pathfinder sales finished May at 9,340, up 292.9 percent over the prior year and marking its best-ever May. Pathfinder deliveries have increased 202 percent so far in 2013, thanks to the all-new model, which debuted in late 2012.
Altima sales in May totaled 31,940, up 40.8 percent over the previous year.
The all-new Nissan Sentra, which debuted in late 2012, saw sales increase 64.5 percent in May to 12,504.
Nissan Rogue had its best-ever month with 17,333 deliveries, an increase of 44.7 percent.

Infiniti Highlights

Infiniti sales in May totaled 7,899, down 25.4 percent from last May.
Infiniti JX, which posted 2,952 sales in May, had its best month since it went on sale in March 2012. Sales of the 7-passenger luxury crossover increased 10.2 percent for the month, and are up 134.8 percent so far in 2013.

We have had the Nissan GT-R Black Edition here in the US since 2012. The Black Edition gets the red/black interior, unique Ray's wheels, and for 2013 a carbon fiber rear wing. In Australia, they have just announced the Black Edition for that market. Just to show you the bargain? we get in the US, in Australia the MSRP is $182,500 AUD($175,729USD) with a maximum drive off price of $199,990AUD($192,570 USD). In the US, 2014 the Black Edition comes in at $109,330. Same car, different market. Is the US market cheap, or the Australian market expensive? Its not all in exchange rate. Its not all in taxes or GST.

MELBOURNE, Australia (27 May 2013) – Nissan has confirmed that a new edition of the all-conquering GT-R will be available in Australia from next month with the introduction of the Nissan GT-R Black Edition to the Australian market.

The Black Edition sees the addition of skilled craftsmanship to the already breathtaking performance of the GT-R, with striking features such as an impressive carbon fibre rear spoiler and red and black interior treatment.

Specially-commissioned Recaro front seats, featuring red leather-accented trim, offer ergonomic support and comfort for both track days and the daily commute.

Metallic black forged alloy 20-inch RAYS six spoke wheels are super-lightweight to reduce unsprung weight, while also featuring knurled beads to help prevent tyres moving on rims under hard acceleration.

“The GT-R Black Edition has already proved popular in other markets, so we are pleased to introduce this exciting model to Australia,” said Nissan Motor Co (Australia) Managing Director and CEO William F Peffer Jr.

The Nissan GT-R Black Edition has a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price of $182,500 (estimated drive-away price of $199,990*) and is available from authorised Nissan GT-R dealers from June.

* Maximum recommended drive-away price based on registration in Western Australia including statutory charges, dealer delivery and luxury car tax. Excludes government, rental and national fleet customers. Prices will vary from dealer to dealer. Premium or prestige paint available at extra cost.

My Last Days: Meet Zach Sobiech

This video has started to go viral today. Touching story about a 17 year old that had a rare form of bone cancer. He passed away May 20th. One of his dreams was to be able to drive a Nissan GT-R, and Nissan helped to make that happen.

Zach Sobiech is a 17 year old diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. With only months to live, Zach turned to music to say goodbye. Zach turned 18 years old today (May 3rd, 2013) and continues his fight against cancer with a smile that can change the world. Happy Birthday Zach! You are in all of our prayers!

Live in France and have a desire to own one of 10 Gentleman Edition Nissan GT-R's? The R34 GT-R had an M spec, or gentle"man"spec. It was a more luxurious version of the R34 GT-R. This car is put together out of the Nissan parts pin. At least they didn't use any of the VVIP gold accents on the car.

If you have a spare 97,900 Euro or $126,000 you can purchase the Grey Squale with Red Amber interior Gentleman Edition. Along with the exclusive color, you get a titanium identification plate, Gentleman Edition badging, and the same 545 horsepower of the 2013(world) Nissan GT-R. With only 10 being produced, it almost begs the question of why? A lot of effort for a small change.

On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago heads to the track with the most extreme GTR yet, the 2014 GTR Track Pack. Unlike in previous years, the 2014 GT-R does not receive any power or torque upgrades, so its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 produces the same 545 horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque as it did in 2013. That's not to say that Nissan left the VQ38DETT alone -- the engine receives new injectors that provide more torque on the high side of the rev range and an oil pan baffle that stabilizes oil behavior and pressure when the car is being driven hard. The six-speed, twin-clutch gearbox and Atessa all-wheel-drive system remain unchanged.

Team Galag Nissan GT-R for the Gumball 3000

No, I don't know what is going on in the front.

If you are going to take an R35 Nissan on the Gumball 3000, it seems like you just can't take a normal R35. It has to be wild, it has to be over the top. I guess it has to pose the question - WTF?

The front, is well, unique. the car looks wide, supposedly 750 horsepower. Perfect for the Gumball 3000?

Helping build the car was America’s own Parker Brothers Concepts, which was also responsible for Team Galag’s Tumbler. The UK’s Litchfield Motors, meanwhile, worked on the GT-R powertrain, which in the TG1 has been tuned to deliver 750 horsepowerand 700 pound-feet of torque

It seems like it might compliment the Batman Tumbler. More pictures and the full story over at Motor Authority.

Wall Street Journal - The Nissan GT-R

Dan Neil, the wordsmith from the Wall Street Journal has written a piece on the 2014 Nissan GT-R . Always interesting to see "the other side" when it comes to a car like a GT-R.

Not so the GT-R. The vibe of this car is simple, blunt, primitive, deeply mechanical, highly stressed, occasionally argumentative, wide-awake. This thing is a four-wheeled Ducati with a decent windscreen. My God, can there be a higher compliment?

Motor Trend just ran a Track Edition around Streets of Willow Springs quicker than a Ducatti. That kind of counts.

If that's not enough, there's a whole industry of Dr. Dementos out there who will be happy to turn up the wick to 700 hp, or even 1,000. This may adversely affect your warranty, to say nothing of your hearing.

There might be a few making even a few more horsepower than 1000. More like 1500. To the tire.

The GT-R is always an interesting car to drive. Because it first came to global prominence by way of a videogame, "Gran Turismo," its fan base skews quite a bit younger than other sports cars'. I have spent many long minutes waiting in parking lots while kids took pictures of themselves with the car. For enthusiasts under 35, this is what fast looks like.

If, somehow, this car doesn't do it for you, chances are you're already into your prime gardening years.

The Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R tear relentlessly at the pavement with four driven wheels and an uninterrupted supply of thrust courtesy of twin-clutch transmissions. Want a quicker all-wheel-drive car? They put World Challenge driver Randy Pobst in both the cars to get his impressions and lap times.

After a few drama-free laps, Randy jumps out, saying, "I wish my race car handled like that." He continues, "No oversteer. Yet it still comes into the corner very well. It doesn't just razor in the way the Audi will. You can tell you have more polar moment, but it's balanced and the tail stays where it belongs."

Easy to drive is fast. A car that doesn't bite you is fast.

That behavior works. While the R8's 1:21.95 lap is respectable (besting the Ferrari 458 by 0.4 second), the GT-R's 1:19.55 is the fastest we've recorded from a production car. It's also 0.17 faster than what AMA pro Steve Rapp could do with a Ducati 1198 S (an inch or a mile, right?).

R36 Nissan GT-R Rumors from GT Channel

Our friends over at GT Channel have a pretty good line on Nissan and Nissan GT-R news. In this latest post, they throw out some speculation on the next model, the R36. Please don't let that picture above be correct. The horrible grill, the horrible wheels, and the Jaguar vent in the fender. Slab sided, no flares. Not GT-R like at all.

We aren’t sure that the final direction of the next-generation R36 GT-R has been decided, but according to Nissan officials, the basics have been determined, and research is already under way. The two paths the R36 could take are: A more advanced version of the current GT-R; and the other is to build a completely new European-style, luxury GT-R

Infiniti Essence Concept built on a Nissan GT-R chassis

They say there are two different possibilities. Do they want to follow the 911, the Audi R8 and build a more luxurious car that will fall in line price wise and performance wise with those cars, or something more hybrid and sporty?

If the new GT-R does indeed make its way into the Infiniti brand, the design would have to be a breakthrough image leader as Infiniti seeks success in Europe. Assuming the accuracy of rumors, we can say the next GT-R would have a slightly larger body, with a width of about 75 in. and a lower overall height of about 53 in. There would also be a power-assist electric motor, to achieve a total power output of 550 hp. In this case, we can expect a fuel consumption improvement of more than 30 percent compared to the current model.

The NISMO version of the R35 GT-R will knocking on the door of 600 horsepower. Will the R36 go down a little in horsepower? The 2013 car is already 545 horsepower. A smaller displacement engine with electric assist for the front wheels is a possibility.

To answer this question Team Icericers and Swedens best Auto-Movie producer Fredrik Jönsson from Redhouse Media made a film in March 2013 to see if it's possible.
We also gladly recevied help in filming from the french production company Clash Productions.
It was a 2 day shoot where we had acces to the skislope in Kåbdalis between 6-9 am.
The rest of the day we spent filming in the beautiful surroundings of northern Sweden.
