• The University of Kentucky’s  SKY Blue Solar House is now sitting on the National Mall in Washington DC.  Faculty, staff and students from the College of Engineering, along with the Colleges of Agriculture and Design all had a hand in it’s success.  Once the competition is completed, the house will be transported back to the Kentucky Horse Park, where it will serve as the visitor’s center for the City of Lexington at the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
• Two foals that will be born in March 2010 are the first clones of a three-day event horse. A Belgian Warmblood gelding owned by Ronald Zabala-Goetschel of Quito, Ecuador, and Kennett Square, Pa., Che Mr. Wiseguy is a dark bay gelding with three white socks and a blaze. Zabala-Goetschel said that since competing at the Rolex Kentucky CCI 4* in April 2009, the horse has quite a fan club. Based on that performance, horse and rider are qualified to represent Ecuador at the World Equestrian Games in 2010.

• News:  The Alltech FEI Dressage Championships had everyone on the edge of their seats as the Netherlands’ Edward Gal and Adelinde Cornelissen traded off for gold throughout the competition.  But it was Gal who would emerge on top in the Grand Prix freestyle aboard phenom Moorlands Totilas for another world-record score of 90.70 percent. The 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion (Gribaldi—Lominka) had already broken one world record in the Grand Prix (84.08%) at the European Championships, but then Cornelissen earned gold in the Special aboard Parzival (84.02%) and set a world record of her own.  Here is Edward Gal’s record breaking ride:

• Blue Hors Matine, the stunning grey dressage mare, who won silver at the Aachen 2006 World Equestrian Games in the Grand Prix Freestyle, and bronze in the Grand Prix Special has been retired to stud.  Ridden by Denmark’s Andreas Helgstrand, her freestyle became something of an urban legend, with the YouTube video being watched more than nine MILLION times.

• The Sydney Three Day Event, which at one point almost looked like it might not run due to inadequate funding, will now host Australia’s triple Olypmic Gold Medalist Andrew Hoy.
• Ireland may have it’s first official reiner in the FEI Alltech 2010 World Equestrian Games.  Ollie Galligan, originally hailing from Co. Leitrim in Ireland, recently managed a third place finish in a qualifier, and now needs two more qualifying scores until he’s on his way to the Kentucky Horse Park next autumn.
• The entire Lexington Division of Police will complete training this month in an effort to improve relations with World Equestrian Games visitors next year.
• Tom Eblen who writes a very interesting column, and a blog called The Bluegrass and Beyond, recently completed his training, and wrote about it in his blog.

• Team USA rider Tom McCutcheon of Aubrey, TX, won the individual final in Kentucky Cup Reining, the first test event for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.  Following McCutcheon in the standings was Canada’s Lisa Coulter, who finished second with a score of 219.5 on Hollywood Aces.  Dell Hendricks of Tioga, TX, scored 218.0 on Starbucks Sidekick, a 9-year-old, Quarter Horse stallion, as did Mexico’s Jose Vazquez on Juiced Up Doc, to put the two riders in a tie for third.  Read More…
• Para Equestrian riders from this hemisphere have another chance to qualify for next year’s World Equestrian Games.  The WindReach International Para-Dressage CPEDI 3* event will take place next May, the 28 to 30, and will be an official qualifier.
• Three Day Eventers are also trying to qualify this weekend at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana.  The Event at Rebecca Farm is the only HSBC FEI World Cup Qualifier in the United States this year, and will run alongside a one star CIC, a two star CCI without steeplechase, novice through advanced horse trials divisions, and four and five year old future event horse classes.  More…

2010 Radio Show by SUCCEED Episode 46 – Show Notes and Links:

• Lot’s of news this week and we get an update from Chrissy Joy at the WEG Offices.
• Well, it turned out to quite an Independence Day Celebration for Steffen Peters and Ravel at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen over the weekend.  More…

• Although, dressage did somewhat steal the show, the US show jumpers performed at Aachen this same Fourth of July weekend, and held onto their lead in the Top League FEI Meydan Nations Cup by the narrowest of margins.
• The Germans had better luck on their home turf with their eventing team.  They filled the top three places individually, and not surprisingly took the team prize too.
• Equestrian Sports New Zealand are on top of the Games, or ahead of the Games, or at least ahead of the rest of the World at the moment.  They have already announced a squad likely to be coming to Lexington next year.

• Let’s come back stateside now, and it doesn’t get much more American than the annual NRHA Derby in Oklahoma.  The heat was on, literally.  Triple digit temperatures meant that even air conditioned show rings weren’t enough for the top tier reiners competing for the USEF Mahajan Trophy and the  Open Reining Championship.
• Our spotlight para-equestrian Susan Treabess, also had a good Independence Day weekend, making like Steffen Peters and Ravel and cleaning up!  More…

• The other big news this week coming out of the Kentucky Horse Park is that there will be no dogs going into the Horse Park next year during the World Equestrian Games.  More…

• The US show-jumpers will be defending their lead in the Meydan FEI Nations Cup.  After two wins early on, they finished a close second in Rotterdam a couple of weeks ago.
• Horsemania is coming back to Lexington.  Those fantastic, decorated, fibreglass horses that popped up all over town in the year 2000 will make a reappearance next year in time for the World Equestrian Games.
• You might find it hard pressed to think what Lexington and the surrounding counties have in common with Napa Valley, but not for long.  This year the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, a tour of eight distilleries, celebrates it’s tenth anniversary, and it’s getting ever more popular.
• We are thrilled to announce the Spotlight team we will be following for Vaulting from now through the 2010 Games.  We would like to congratulate the English Riding Squad out of England for being our Spotlight team!  The English Vaulting Squad was formed in 2000 by a group of committed vaulters and parents who wished to advance up to International level.  We had a chance to speak with Gill Barham and a couple of the kids on the team as they were preparing to leave for Achen for a big competition.

• Last weekend was a busy one for anyone trying to get a head start on picking  the three day event teams for next year’s WEG.  The US sent 26 year old Will Coleman from Virginia over to Luhmuhlen in Germany to contest the four star there with Twizzel, after a minor injury in the spring prevented him from running at Rolex, and he did us proud.
• At three star level, Canadian Hawley Bennet won the Bromont CCI in Canada riding Gin n Juice.
• In England at the Bramham three star CCI, Andrew Nicholson rose to the top with a clear show jumping round on the final day, snatching victory from local girl Nicola Wilson.

• All the horses competing at next year’s World Games will have their feet well taken care of by the American Farrier’s Association, or AFA, and this has now been extended to all the test events as well.
• Collecting Gaits Farm has once again signed on to sponsor the United States Equestrian Federation Dressage Festival of Champions at Gladstone, New Jersey.
