Awakened people, especially those who can be seen claiming the New Age movement all over the globe, announcing themselves as lightworkers – are often found against the idea of stepping inside the system to spread light. Instead, what I have observed is that, they turn themselves “against” the mainstream world so much so that they live their lives in their little clusters. I might sound like a harsh critique here, but really, if you’re awakened and working inside the “system”, you’re actually contributing to the global change in the most microscopic ways that were never thought of, before. Is there really a need to leave the system, take a sage and then rant about – how corrupt the governments are, how badly hit the economies are, how sleepy the sheeple is, the ranting never seems to stop! Well, how about getting your hands dirty to clean your own shit? Escaping the system in search of inner peace and salvation, sadly remains nothing more than a convenient escapism.

It needs truly meaning and a thorough implementing of true wisdom, at the base of which, lies pure love for all that is. It needs making peace with the resistance that your being initially shows toward any kind of change that affects you on a mental, physical and emotional level. Is a petal afraid of falling on the ground?
I’m often asked if everything is subjective why care about absolutes?

Subjectivity and relativity is simply on the surface level. The rabbit hole goes much deeper. And the source of all is definitely absolute. Source cannot be subjective to each person even if he chooses to believe so. Everything that exists, everything, stands on one divine ground, everything is a part of the grand design, no matter how subjective or relative it might seem on the surface level of our perception, we all stand on that very divine ground whether or not u believe in it.
The arguments on how subjective it is, is exactly what seperates u from the ultimate oneness of all, it is the egotism that serves this purpose. However I cannot deny that the ego is necessary to be able to live in a matrix full of individualism but at some point you will understand that there is literally no difference between you finding yourself or gautama buddha finding himself – we all have come from the same source, so to speak, only the paths are different. That paths are subjective, not the source. It is only this “subjectivity” that creates the illusion of separation from what is. The trick is to strike a balance between the egoistism of subjetivity and the surrender to the ultimate truth of oneness.

We have all come from the same SOURCE. Spiritually speaking, if you realize yourself someday, it means realizing the SOURCE within you. How can that source be bitter? Even if every experience is subjective, let’s not forget where the subjectivity has come from. Everything in this universe started from that source life force. Ultimate realization of self implies realization of the source inside you. This is what i believe. You’re free to believe what u want to, but it wont change the fact that source is where it all started…whether it is you, a dog, a tree, a planet, a star or a whole galaxy. Yes every bit of it is subjective, it goes without saying my friend, but all of what i mentioned, “Life” so to speak at its most basic microcosmic level…began from the source. That is the only ultimate realization.

Nasa Uses Sanskrit To Program Artificial Intelligence

The extraordinary thing about Sanskrit is that it offers direct accessibility to anyone to that elevated plane where the two — mathematics and music, brain and heart, analytical and intuitive, scientific and spiritual— become one.

In the past twenty years, much time, effort, and money has been spent on designing an unambiguous representation of natural languages to make them accessible to computer processing. These efforts have centered around creating schemata designed to parallel logical relations with relations expressed by the syntax and semantics of natural languages, which are clearly cumbersome and ambiguous in their function as vehicles for the transmission of logical data. Understandably, there is a widespread belief that natural languages are unsuitable for the transmission of many ideas that artificial languages can render with great precision and mathematical rigor.

But this dichotomy, which has served as a premise underlying much work in the areas of linguistics and artificial intelligence, is a false one. There is at least one language, Sanskrit, which for the duration of almost 1,000 years was a living spoken language with a considerable literature of its own. Besides works of literary value, there was a long philosophical and grammatical tradition that has continued to exist with undiminished vigor until the present century. Among the accomplishments of the grammarians can be reckoned a method for paraphrasing Sanskrit in a manner that is identical not only in essence but in form with current work in Artificial Intelligence.

Indian media stated this connection between NASA and sanskrit in March 2012,”Very soon the traditional Indian language Sanskrit will be a part of the space, with the United States of America (USA) mulling to use it as computer language at NASA. After the refusal of the Indian Sanskrit scholars to help them acquire command over the language, US has urged its young generation to learn Sanskrit.”

According to Rick Briggs, Sanskrit is such a language in which a message can be sent by the computer in the least number of words.

After the refusal of Indian experts to offer any help in understanding the scientific concept of the language, American kids were imparted Sanskrit lessons since their childhood.

The NASA website also confirms its Mission Sanskrit and describes it as the best language for computers. The website clearly mentions that NASA has spent a large sum of time and money on the project during the last two decades.

The scientists believe that Sanskrit is also helpful in speech therapy besides helping in mathematics and science. It also improves concentration. The alphabets used in the language are scientific and their correct pronunciation improves the tone of speech. It encourages imagination and improves memory retention also.

It is also called deva-bhasha meaning the “divine language.”
The word Sanskrit means completed, refined, perfected. Sum (Complete) + krt (created).

Sanskrit is a historical Indic language, one of the liturgical languages of Hinduism and Buddhism, and one of the oldest languages in the world, and in use since 1200 BC as the religious and classical literary language of Indian Subcontinent. This language contrasted with the languages spoken by the people, Prakrit – “Prototype, natural, artless, normal, ordinary” Sanskrit was created and then refined over many generations (traditionally more than a thousand years) until it was considered complete and perfect.

Sanskrit is generally written in the syllabic Devanagari script composed of 51 letters or aksharas. The Sanskrit language, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure; more perfect than the Greek, more copious than the Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either.

Prof. Weizenbaum obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Wayne State University in Detroit. After a few years in the industry, he entered the Massachussets Institute of Technology where he has held faculty positions since 1955. He is currently a professor in the department of Computer Sciences at MIT. His current research interests include Artificial Intelligence and social implications of computing and cybernetics.

Shastric Sanskrit

The sentence:
(1) “Caitra goes to the village.” (graamam gacchati caitra)
receives in the analysis given by an eighteenth-century Sanskrit Grammarian from Maharashtra, India, the following paraphrase:
(2) “There is an activity which leads to a connection-activity which has as Agent no one other than Caitra, specified by singularity, [which] is taking place in the present and which has as Object something not different from ‘village’.”
The author, Nagesha, is one of a group of three or four prominent theoreticians who stand at the end of a long tradition of investigation. Its beginnings date to the middle of the first millennium B.C. when the morphology and phonological structure of the language, as well as the framework for its syntactic description were codified by Panini. His successors elucidated the brief, algebraic formulations that he had used as grammatical rules and where possible, tried to improve upon them. A great deal of fervent grammatical research took place between the fourth century B.C and the fourth century A.D. and culminated in the seminal work, the Vaiakyapadiya by Bhartrhari. Little was done subsequently to advance the study of syntax, until the so-called “New Grammarian” school appeared in the early part of the sixteenth century with the publication of Bhattoji Dikshita’s Vaiyakarana-bhusanasara and its commentary by his relative Kaundabhatta, who worked from Benares. Nagesha (1730-1810) was responsible for a major work, the Vaiyakaranasiddhantamanjusa, or Treasury of dejinitive statements of grammarians, which was condensed later into the earlier described work. These books have not yet been translated.
The reasoning of these authors is couched in a style of language that had been developed especially to formulate logical relations with scientific precision. It is a terse, very condensed form of Sanskrit, which paradoxically at times becomes so abstruse that a commentary is necessary to clarify it.
One of the most distinguished computer scientists in the world today, Prof. J. Weizenbaum is known for his major contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence. He authored the famous ELIZA program (fore-runner of DOCTOR and other similar programs) which startlingly demonstrated the possibilities for building ‘intelligent effects’ into a computer through programming. Weizenbaum is also the author of Computer Power and Human Reasoning from Calculation to Judgement in which he critically examines the far-reaching social implications of research and philosophical assumptions regarding artificial intelligence.
Until recently, modern science, seen as a religion, lacked a deity suitable as an object of worship. The machine, which is generally pictured as something that has gears, moving parts, and so on, has existed for a long time now. To modern man the machine certainly represents power, control, mastery over nature-in other words, attributes a worshipable deity should have. But the machine lacks mystery. In fact, it often demystifies in the sense that people believe that most anything can be transformed, metaphorically at least, into the form of a machine and then understood as such. The machine has become an almost universally applicable metaphor that demystifies both itself and the thing to which it refers. This thinking holds true for both intellectuals of all persuasions as well as for ordinary people. Perhaps most people today think a thing is not understood until it has been reduced to a mechanical process.

It is a fact that foregin scientists take more interest in the ancient philosophy of India which contains everything that the scienists discover thousands of years later as the Rishis of the yore through deep penance for years in dense forests found the materials which they coined and conveyed through some means and later they were transferred through a language called Sanskrit the origin of which nobody knows.Such was the potency of Indian Rishis, they could visualise everything the Creator has made and the scientists have only discovered those facts in a laboratory.Even the atomic power and its devastating effects have been brought in our scripts by terming the same as Brahmastra which had the effect of finishing anything.What the scientists discovered as aeroplanes could be found in the form of aerial chariot. So the scriptures mostly written and spoken in olden days were in the language of Sanskrit only though the same have been translated in several languages thousands of years later.Even Gita was told in sanskrit as there was no other language at those times.It is really unfortunate that such a great language has become a dead language and the secular Governments never bothered about the revival of such treasures. All the mantras in olden days were in sanskrit and when recited in a particular metre and with proper accent could create great vibrations on the atmosphere. All important aspects of the oldest known language are getting neglected. People who are interested must come together to develop such precious treasures and inculcate in the young minds the benefits which will pave way for a glorious future.

The truth of this is further accented by the fact that throughout the history and development of Indian thought, the science of grammar and linguistics was attributed a status equal to that of mathematics in the context of modern scientific investigation. In difference to the thoroughness and depth with which the ancient grammatical scientists established the science of language, modern linguistic researchers in Russia have concluded about Sanskrit, “The time has cometo continue the tradition of the ancient grammarians on the basis of the modern ideas in general linguistics. Sanskrit is the most ancient member of the European family of languages. It is an elder sister of Latin and Greek from which most of the modern European languages have been derived. The oldest preserved form of Sanskrit is referred to as Vedic. The oldest example of the literature of the Vedic period is the Rig-Veda . Being strictly in verse, the Rig-Veda does not give us a record of the contemporary spoken language.The very name “Sanskrit” meant “language brought to formal perfection” in contrast to the common languages, Prakrits or “natural” languages. The form of Sanskrit which has been used for the last 2500years is known today as Classical Sanskrit.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2013

Maha Kumbh Mela, held after every 12 purna(complete) Kumbh melas is celebrated ones every 144years and is recorded to be the biggest religious gathering in the world. Kumbh Mela derive its name and importance back from the vedic times & churning of the ocean. The story behind this gathering is known to many but I will elaborate it further as we move ahead with this article.

According to Vedic literature soon after the creation of dharma(laws and customs), many different sects of the cosmos started to dysfunction. To bring them together(asuras and devtas) the churning of ocean was organized. The purpose behind the idea was to bring all different sects together for a greater good.

Kumbh derive its name from the immortal pot of nectar which was lost out of ego and selfishness of beings and gods. Vedas define this ego as ‘I’ to be precise for our Indian readers the sense of ‘me,’ ‘mai,’ and ‘mera’ is the cause of ego.

Ancient Vedic scriptures known as Puran & Upanishads, that have stood the test of time, out of which the tradition has evolved into the one that the world now know as The Kumbh Mela. Legend tells a tale from the bygone days of the universe when the demigods and the demons conjointly produced the nectar of immortality. The demigods, because cursed, were crippled of fear that eventually made them weak. The task being too sturdy for them alone, the demigods made a mutual agreement with the demons to complete it in full and share the nectar of immortality in half. It is said that the demigods and the demons assembled on the shore of the milk ocean that lies in the celestial region of the cosmos and it began!

For the task of churning the milk ocean, the Mandara Mountain(Mandarachal) was used as the churning rod, and Vasuki, the king of serpents, became the rope for churning. With the demigods at Vasuki’s tail and the demons at his head, the churning began. With the churning, fourteen Ratnas (virtuous jewels) emerged from the ocean. These were Poison, Flying Horse, Magic Moon, Sky chariot, Vibrant Lyre, Rambha (the siren), Lakshmi (the paragon of beauty and the provider of all riches), Vishwakarma (the divine architect), Dhanvantari (the divine healer), Gajaraj (the divine elephant), Kaustubh Mani (the divine conch shell), Varuni (the enchantress) and the coveted kumbh (pitcher) of Amrit (divine nectar). Deadly poison that came first was consumed by Lord Shiva to save the creation from its wrath. It was this era of bygone days and since then Lord Shiva is also known as Neelkantha(one with the blue throat). As Lord Shiva drank the poison, a few drops fell from his hands which were licked by scorpions, snakes, and similar other deadly creatures. Also, during the churning, the Mandara Mountain began to sink deep into the ocean, seeing which Lord Vishnu incarnated as a great tortoise(Kurnavatar) and supported the mountain on his back.

With the emergence of Amrit or elixir, there was confusion amongst the gods and demons for its possession. Lord Vishnu handed over the kumbh(pitcher) of amrit to divine Garuda (the winged mount of Lord Vishnu).Garuda, who was to take the pitcher of nectar safely to heaven(Swarga), was stopped on way at four places by the demons. These places are the present day Allahabad(city of Prayag), Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, where Garuda had to put the pitcher down. Some of the nectar spilled at these places, sanctifying them forever. (As per Skand Puran, the story of taking away the pitcher by Jayanta, son of Lord Indra and the episode of spilling of nectar is mentioned, while other Purans – Vishnu, Brahamandu , Padma, Bhagwat , Agni, Mahabharat and Ramayana narrate the story of Garuda the winged mount of Lord Vishnu).

There is also a prevalent legend that it was actually the demons that were being chased by the demigods for 12 days and 12 nights, during which the drops of elixir of immortality fell at these four places. These four places are since believed to have acquired mystical powers. Because 12 days of Gods are equivalent to 12 years for humans; the Kumbh Mela is celebrated once every 12 years in each of the four places – banks of river Godavari in Nasik, river Kshipra in Ujjain, river Ganges in Haridwar, and at the Sangam of Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Allahabad, where the drops are believed to have fallen. The Ardh (half) Kumbh Mela is celebrated every six years at Haridwar and Allahabad, the Purna (complete) Kumbh takes place every twelve years, at four places Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. The Maha (great) Kumbh Mela which comes after 12 ‘Purna Kumbh Melas’, or 144 years, is held at Allahabad.

Millions of devout, come together to partake in ritualistic bathing and ceremonies to cleanse themselves of all sins. One of the most liberal and free festivals around the globe. Variety of music ranging from bhajans to ancient instruments can be heard all around 125,000 sq. ft of area close to this mega religious congregation. The whole city remains packed and streets jammed with saints, seers, philosophers, gurus, preachers, disciples, culture, religion and visitors.

According to the Mela Administration’s estimates, around 70 million people participated in the 45-day Ardh Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, in 2007.

The previous Kumbh Mela, held in 2010 in Haridwar, was, before it occurred, estimated by the authorities to attract around 50 million people.

The first written evidence of the Kumbha Mela can be found in the accounts of Chinese traveler, Huan Tsang or Xuanzang (602 – 664 A.D.) who visited India in 629 -645 CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana. However, similar observances date back many centuries, where the river festivals first started getting organised. According to medieval Hindu theology, the origin of Kumbh Mela is found in one of the most popular medieval puranas, ‘Bhagavat Puran’ to be precise. The Samudra manthan episode (Churning of the ocean of milk), is mentioned in the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata, and the Ramayana.

According to Paramahansa Yogananda in his work the Autobiography of a Yogi, it was on the Kumbha Mela in January 1894 at Allahabad that his Guru Sri Yukteswar met Mahavatar Babaji for the first time.

It is a lifetime opportunity for all to be a part of this mega congregation of saints, seers, philosophers, gurus, preachers, and disciples from around the globe.

Kumbh Mela is the largest gathering of humanity on earth and a unique event that blends religious and social features of Indian society. It is the largest and the greatest Indian river side pilgrimage and religious congregation celebrated with unique religious fervor and has no parallel in the world in terms of sheer participation and zeal. In January and February, 2013, Kumbh Mela is going to be celebrated at Allahabad , situated at 25.28 N latitude and 81.52 E longitude in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. At Allahabad over 40 million people from different parts of the world will participate in Kumbh Mela.

No advertisement, No invitation, yet such a big congregation. It is nothing short of a marvel and unbelievable till one is actually the part of it. Today Kumbh Mela at Allahabad is the biggest spectacle of faith and symbolic of ‘Jagat Kutumbkam ‘ or global village, wherein different cultures, different religions, different school of thoughts come together to discuss and share information and knowledge.

The Kumbh Mela will commence on 27th January 2013 and will end on 25 February 2013. During this period, Allahabad will be the most populated city of the world. On the sandy banks of the rivers, a new township comes up, wherein pilgrims, saints, preachers, healers, government departments, social organisations and many more sets up their accommodation and offices. People assemble here to bathe in the holy rivers daily and more so on specified holy bathing days known as Snan Parvs (Bathing Days). To hear holy discourses, to exchange and learn religious philosophies and what not! People from different parts of India and from abroad converge at these places to bathe in the river on the auspicious occasion, known as Kumbh Snan Yoga.

The faith and belief in god has propelled these people to be at Kumbh Allahabad despite of the several hardships on their way. Kumbh Mela does not belong to any particular religion, caste or creed rather it symbolizes the main spirit of Indian culture and thought. For such a sea of humanity to converge at a point of known attraction, the reason cannot be attributed to a mere myth. Kumbh Mela is a cultural festival, which symbolizes the stability and integrity of the Indian Nation.

In 1885, Mark Twain wrote about Allahabad Kumbh;

“Pilgrims plodded for months in heat to get here, worn, poor and hungry, but sustained by unwavering faith”

Allahabad is the modern name of the holy city called Prayag. Prayag was also referred to as Teerthraj Prayag, meaning the holiest of the holy. Kumbh at Allahabad is of a very special significance. Bathing at Prayag is mentioned in Brahma Purana (Hindu Script) as ” bathing in the month of Magh at the bank of Ganga and Yamuna at Prayag bestows results of millions and millions of “Ashvamedha Yajna” (Vedic Sacrifice which bestows immense power).

Human Heart: Our Seed To Collective Consciousness

In many cultures throughout history, the heart has been considered the source of emotions, passion and wisdom. People used to feel that they experienced the feeling or sensation of love and other emotional states in the area of the heart. However, in the past, scientists emphasized the role of the brain in the head as being responsible for such experiences. Interestingly, recent studies have explored physiological mechanisms by which the heart communicates with the brain, thereby influencing information processing, perceptions, emotions and health. These studies provided the scientific basis to explain how and why the heart affects mental clarity, creativity and emotional balance.

A number of important findings already have emerged. For example, changes in the earth’s magnetic field are associated with changes in brain and nervous system activity; performance of athletic, memory and other tasks; sensitivity in a wide range of extrasensory perception experiments; synthesis of nutrients in plants and algae; the number of reported traffic violations and accidents; mortality from heart attacks and strokes; and incidence of depression and suicide.

Human Heart Regulates Emotion

We all have noticed that changes in emotions are accompanied by predictable changes in the heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and digestion. So, when we are aroused, the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system energizes us for fight or flight, and in more quiet times, the parasympathetic component cools us down. This brings us to an assumption that the autonomic nervous system and the physiological responses move in concert with the brain’s response to a given stimulus (Rein, Atkinson, et al, 1995).

Recent research has indicated that the human heart has its own brain, which we also know as neural intelligence. The energy signals transmitted from the heart to the brain is called coherence which, depending on how we feel, can affect us in either a positive or negative manner. Head intelligence helps to analyze, categorize, synthesize, evaluate and compare millions of information bits. Such functions are necessary for our survival and evolution and these added functions of a human brain make our species explicit and more intelligent than any other kind on planet Earth. The concept of mind is of central importance for psychiatrists and psychologists. However, little attention has been paid in most formal textbooks to this important issue, which is usually studied under the section of ‘Philosophical aspects of psychiatry/psychology.

Heart & Brain

Note: There is also evidence in some cases that people’s brainwaves can synchronize with the rhythm of the electromagnetic waves generated in the earth’s ionosphere. When people say they “feel” an impending earthquake or other planetary events, such as weather changes, it is possible that they may be reacting to the actual physical signals that occur in the earth’s field prior to the event.

So to study the components of human brain is only one step on a long road and the old saying, “Follow your heart” still prevails.

After several years of research, it was observed that, the heart communicates with our mind in ways that significantly affect how we perceive and react to the world. It was found that, the heart seemed to have its own peculiar logic that frequently diverged from the direction of the autonomic nervous system. The heart appeared to be sending meaningful messages to the brain that it not only understood, but also obeyed (Lacey and Lacey, 1978). For approximately 30 years John I. Lacey defined the field of psycho-physiology. His pioneering work relating physiological measures in humans to their psychological function subsequently influenced the fields of behavioral medicine and neuroscience. Later, neuro-physiologists discovered a neural pathway and mechanism whereby input from the heart to the brain could inhibit or facilitate the brain’s electrical activity (McCraty, 2002, HeartMath’s education initiative.) The scientific, philosophical, and pedagogical foundation of the Institute of HeartMath’s education initiative is based on leading-edge scientific research conducted during the past several decades on how stress and emotions impact learning and performance.

The heart is also the first organ that is being formed in the womb. The rest comes later. In early 2011, Neurophysicists got astonished to discover that the Heart is more an organ of intelligence, than just being the body’s main pumping station. More than half of the Heart is actually composed of neurons of the very same nature as those that make up the cerebral system. Joseph Chilton-Pearce, author of The Biology of Transcendence, calls it “the major biological apparatus within us and the seat of our greatest intelligence.” The Heart is also the source of the body’s strongest electromagnetic field. Each heart cell is unique in that it not only pulsates in synchrony with all the other heart cells, but also produces an electromagnetic signal that radiates out beyond the cell. An EEG that measures brain waves show that the electromagnetic signals from the heart are so much stronger than brain waves, that a reading of the heart’s frequency spectrum can be taken from three feet away from the body without placing electrodes on it. The Heart’s electromagnetic frequency arcs out from the Heart and back in the form of a torus field. The axis of this Heart torus extends from the pelvic floor to the top of the skull, and the whole field is holographic, meaning that information about it can be read from each and every point in the torus. The Hearts’ torus electromagnetic field is not the only source that emits this type of electromagnetic field. Every atom emits the same torus field. The Earth is also at the centre of a torus, so is the solar system and even our galaxy, all are holographic. Scientists believe there is a good possibility that there is only one universal torus encompassing an infinite number of interacting, holographic tori within its spectrum. Because electromagnetic torus fields are holographic, it is more than likely that the sum total of our Universe is present within the frequency spectrum of a single torus. This means that each one of us is connected to the entire Universe and as such, can access all the information within it at any given moment.

Empirical data backs this amazing discovery! The heart’s magnetic field is more than 5,000 times stronger than the same magnetic field generated by the brain. In other words, when you feel really happy, then this emotion creates a presence that can be detected by other people several feet away from you!

Neuropeptides from the heart region can communicate directly with the brain. Heart produces hormones that stimulate the brain activity. The electrical energy of the heart is forty times stronger than that of the brain. This energy surrounds the physical heart and radiates far and wide.

Research sponsored by the HeartMath Institute suggests that this energy field is also a source of higher intelligence, often referred to as “intuition, ” “inner voice,” or that “gut feeling.” You may have sometimes heard an inner voice, see a vivid dream or something inside you told you what to do. That is the work of heart intelligence.

Heart intelligence is communal. It is powered by that love which unites people. Head intelligence is individual. It is powered by the self-interests, which divides people.

The heart and Amygdala

Research has shown that the heart’s afferent neurological signals directly affect activity in the amygdala and associated nuclei, an important emotional processing centre in the brain.The amygdala is the key brain centre that coordinates behavioural, immunological, and neuroendocrine responses to environmental threats. It compares incoming emotional signals with stored emotional memories, and accordingly makes instantaneous decisions about the level of perceived threat. Due to its extensive connections to the limbic system, it is able to take over the neural pathways, activating the autonomic nervous system and emotional response before the higher brain centres receive the sensory information (Rein, McCraty and Atkinson, 1995 & McCraty et al, 1995).

While it is not difficult to conceive that life-forms embedded in the earth’s magnetic fields could be affected by modulations in these fields, it is a more far-reaching proposition to suggest that the earth’s fields can be influenced or modulated by human emotions. Nevertheless, GCI researchers theorize that when large number of humans respond to a global event with a common emotional feeling, the collective response can affect the activity in the earth’s field. In cases where the event evokes negative responses, this could be thought of as a planetary stress wave, and in cases where a positive wave is created, it could create a global coherence wave. This perspective is supported by research at the Institute of HeartMath, which has shown that emotions not only create coherence or incoherence in our bodies, but, like radio waves, also radiate outward and are detected by the nervous systems of others in our environment.

It is now clear that our nervous systems detect these electromagnetic waves generated by others in our environment, but there is also evidence of a global effect when large number of people create similar outgoing waves. For example, research conducted by Roger Nelson and his team at Princeton University for the Global Consciousness Project utilized a worldwide network of random number generators. Their findings have provided convincing evidence that human consciousness and emotionality create or interact with a global field, which affect the randomness of these electronic devices. It does not feel too long ago since I first heard the clarity of my inner voice. That voice which came from deep within once had asked me, as a child, “Who I am”, and after a deep profound pause, “Why am I here”. At that tender age, it just came off as a deep astonishment of hearing something that came from within and not from the outside world.

It took me another fifteen years or so to hear that voice once again, only this time it asked, “Where I am and what am I doing?” I felt deeply astonished once again, along with an unforgiving push that I had to do something about it. I have to hear this inner calling and do what it asks me to do. Like a truly clear, pure of its intentions, an instruction book so to speak, of where I am supposed to go and what am I supposed to do. It came as an inner knowing that following this inner voice of heart, yes, the voice of my heart, would never let me down. And so here I’m speaking that voice out once again two years after my awakening.

Awakened people, especially those who can be seen patronizing the New Age movement all over the globe, announcing themselves as lightworkers - are often found against the idea of stepping inside the system to spread light. Instead, what I have observed is that, they turn themselves “against” the mainstream world so much so that they live their lives in their little clusters wishing each other “Love & Light”. I might sound like a harsh critique here, but really, wishing each other P.L.U.R and turning against the system is not going to change things in the real world.

If you’re awakened and working inside the “system”, you’re actually contributing to the global change in the most microscopic ways that were never thought of before. Is there really a need to leave the system, take a sage and then rant about – how corrupt the governments are, how badly hit the economies are, how sleepy the sheeple is, the ranting never seems to stop! Well, how about getting your hands dirty to clean your own shit? Leaving the system in search of inner peace and salvation, sadly remains nothing more than a convenient escapism. Freedom does not lie in running away from your prisons, one needs to face the prisons, live inside it and demolish the walls of their prisons brick-by-brick everyday to allow true freedom to hail.

Staying awake in the matrix needs to be attained. It needs telling yourself consistently, to embrace the changes happening around you, and yet not judge them into what’s good and bad. It needs remembering, and not just remembering but also truly understanding that everything, literally everything comes from the same Source. No complaining; no judging is allowed! Do not separate yourself from the system, all notions of separation are illusions. It needs you to fully agree that everything is one, really, from sheeple to the shamans, from innocents to their corrupt governments, from the beggars to the millionaires, from the Hollywood to the Holistic Healers – We all are ONE and we keep saying it, almost mercilessly while we continue to judge everyone on the surface level. Unconsciously, we judge and separate ourselves from whatever is. Being awakened inside the system tests your ability to “accept” things as they are. It teaches you to wear your ego but cease to use it, thus forcing you to truly, not just theoretically, but in practice, believe that “All is, indeed, one”. It strives to prove that the flow of life is always perfect and it teaches that lesson through uncertainty, until we fully give in the flow. It needs shedding every layer one by one, uncovering every mask you have ever put on. It is almost dangerous to be awakened inside a matrix because you have to get rid of all false facades to shed layers. It needs mastering what you spiritually quote on your facebook status updates – out from your computer screens and into your “real” life, so to speak.

Experiencing wakefulness inside a system means practicing oneness – no more preaching and debating!

Chronic insomnia engulfed every unexplored intricacy of my mind’s labyrinth that had now started to look like a clutter full of doubts and uncertainties. I’m tired and exhausted after a day’s work, it’s a Thursday night and it’s almost the end of my working week, yet I wait for sleep to come to me. I knew of the wisdom that sleep brings along with it, that any bad feeling can be slept over but it looked like I was at an adversity with anything sleep-related. Wisdom however, didn’t fail to come to me, through Coldplay as Chris Martin’s voice lullabied in my ears as he sang I will try to fix you like a sweet whisper. Music listens to you when you have no one else to hear you out. I felt I was being pulled in all directions. Memories of the past haunt me as the present tries to comfort while the future looked straight in my eye with a gleeful shot of uncertainty. I had no other choice but to look forward to it hopelessly, putting my optimism to the test of its highest imagination.

It had really started to feel like the linear time is converging into one focal point – Now. Now is all I had, and this is all I could tell myself with certainty. And as this very now passed on, into what followed next, into yet another moment, here I write this down, so that when this will have passed on, it’ll remind me that change is inevitable and that we can only flow with what comes our way. Life is nothing but a chain of passing events. You don’t need to push a river to flow. It simply flows. If you cling on to anything, you will get eroded as the flow of life will grate against you. The lessons of non-attachment, thus derived.

Attachment is an illusion we create for the love of things we cannot transcend. We start associating ourselves to the city we reside in, to the friends we spend our time with, to that roadside cafe where we sip our morning coffees, to the love of our life, to our kinship, to our pets and to everything that we do everyday. Whether you stick to the same city all your life or keep moving cities all the time, you will be given the lessons of non-attachment in the forms that are most suitable for the path you choose.

“The soul that is attached to anything, however much good there may be in it, will not arrive at the liberty of divine union. For whether it be a strong wire rope or a slender and delicate thread that holds the bird, it matters not, if it really holds it fast; for, until the cord be broken the bird cannot fly. So the soul, held by the bounds of human affections, however slight they may be, cannot, while they last, make its way to God.”

“As long as I am this or that, or have this or that, I am not all things and I have not all things. Become pure till you neither are nor have either this or that; then you are omnipresent and, being neither this nor that, are all things.”

The above statements are easy to understand even if you’re a layman spiritual reader. However, the trick is, not just understanding these statements but the righteous implication of how these concepts of non-attachment can be truly observed in “real” everyday lives. For example, how can a person who lives with his family everyday observe non-attachment? It is impossible for him to explain it to his kids that “your father is observing non-attachment, therefore he’s spending time away from you.” Certainly, he cannot say such things to any of his family members!

How can such a person escape the suffering that attachment brings with it?

There is a very notable statement made by St. Francis de Sales that addresses this very problem.

He said:

There are souls who have made some progress in divine love, and have cut off all the love they had for dangerous things; yet they still have dangerous and superfluous loves, because they love what God wills them to love, but with excess and too tender and passionate a love… The love of our relations, friends and benefactors is itself according to God, but we may love them excessively; as also our vocations, however spiritual they be; and our devotional exercises (which we should yet love very greatly) may be loved inordinately, when we set them above obedience and the more general good, or care for them as an end, when they are only means.

One need not leave the family bestowed upon him to detach himself so as to arrive to God through non-attachment. This means that we must continue to give our love and devotion to our relations, friends and benefactors as also activities that make our hearts happy, because it is the God inside you that is giving love to these things. (what God wills them to love) However, we must remember to love and care for them only as means – means of God to give our love, and not as an end.

An anonymous Sufi Aphorism beautifully explains the suffering of non attachment as the laughter of one’s spirit. It says: When the heart weeps for what it has lost, the spirit laughs for what it has found.

The simplicity of this statement beautifies the wisdom behind it. The heart weeps when it feels that it has lost a friend, or a loving partner. The heart suffers because all this while it thinks the friend or the lover it lost was an end, when he was only a means. The heart suffers from the sorrows of attachment. However, the spirit laughs because while the heart weeps for the loss, the spirit learns the lessons of non-attachment.

It is by losing the egocentric life that we save the hitherto latent and undiscovered life which, in the spiritual part of our being, we share with the divine Ground. This new-found life is “more abundant” than the other, and of a different and higher kind. Its possesion is liberation into the eternal, and liberation is beatitude. Necessarily so; for the Brahman, who is one with the Atman, is not only Being and Knowledge, but also, Bliss, and after Love and Peace, the final fruit of the Spirit is Joy. Mortification is painful, but that pain is one of the pre-conditions of blessedness. This fact of spiritual experience is sometimes obscured by the language in which it is described. Thus, when Christ says that the Kingdom of Heaven cannot be entered except by those who are as little children, we are apt to forget (so touching are the images evoked by the simple phrase) hat a man cannot become childlike unless he chooses to undertake the most strenous and searching course of self-denial.

In practice the command to become as little children is identical with the command to lose one’s life.

One cannot know all created Nature in all its essentially sacred beauty, unless one first unlearns the dirty devices of adult humanity. Seen through the dung-coloured spectacles of self-interest, the universe looks singularly like a dung-heap; and as through long wearing, the spectacles have grown on to the eyeballs, the process of “cleansing the doors of perception” is often, at any rate in the earlier stages of spiritual life, painfully like a surgical operation. Later on, it is true, even self-naughting may be suffused with the joy of the Spirit.

Lucid Dreaming – Meaning and Techniques

What if we could attain a possibility to enter a world within our own mind, which is completely realistic and safe? A world – where anything is possible! Anything close to fulfilling our deepest desires, without any limits & consequences. What we imagine, we can make it happen and all of this while sleeping peacefully.

At times a remarkable exception occurs, and we become conscious enough to realize that we are dreaming. “Lucid” dreamers (the term derives from van Eeden, 1913) report being able to freely remember the circumstances of waking life, to think clearly, and to act deliberately upon reflection, all while experiencing a dream world that seems vividly real (Green, 1968; LaBerge, 1985; Gackenbach & LaBerge, 1988). This is all in contrast to the usual past characterization of dreams as typically lacking any reflective awareness or true volition (Rechtschaffen, 1978).

So a lucid dream is a dream in which an individual knows he is dreaming. Also known as conscious dreaming, lucid dreaming is a learnable skill that can be used for living out fantasies, practicing creative problem solving or role-playing important life situations, stopping nightmares, creative or artistic inspiration, and even personal or spiritual exploration. The most important aspect of lucid dreaming is that one can control it the way he wants to. A dream without any control cannot be a lucid dream. Dream control might be either conscious or unconscious. Many lucid dreamers experience little or no control in some dreams. On the other hand, it is possible to exercise some dream control without being aware that it is a dream. Typically the dream plot will explain this by making the dreamer believe that they have some sort of god-like power over everything.

RAPID & NON-RAPID EYE MOVEMENT

To most of us, sleep may seem like one long state of unconsciousness, but there are five distinct stages in a normal pattern of sleep. These stages are split up into general categories stated: REM(Rapid Eye Movement), NREM(Non Rapid Eye Movement). One sleep cycle including all stages is about 90 minutes. The order of occurrence: NREM1, NREM2, NREM3, NREM2, and REM.

NREM Sleep

NREM1, the first stage, normally lasting only a few minutes. We experience it as we just drift off to sleep. During NREM1, we may experience strange noises, lights, or sensations, which are known as hypnogagic hallucinations. We may also experience random twitches in our skeletal muscles commonly known as hypnic jerks. Which makes this time restless and we wake up. Both hypogagic hallucination and hypnic jerks are completely harmless, although they can be startling sometimes.

NREM2 is the second stage of sleep, characterized by a total loss of consciousness. We cease to be aware of any of our surroundings as we fall into a deep, restorative sleep.

NREM3, also known as slow-wave sleep, was previously broken up into NREM3 and NREM4. Recently, it was discovered that there was no discernible difference between stages NREM3 and NREM4, so they were combined into NREM3. It is the deepest sleep out of all of the stages, so it is very difficult to wake someone in the NREM3 stage. Parasomnias like sleepwalking and night terrors typically occur in this stage. Typically one will experience another period of NREM2 before moving on to the REM sleep.

REM Sleep

REM is probably the most important sleep stage for an Oneirologist, because this is when one experience dreams. While there have been recordings of dreams during the other sleep stages, generally REM is considered the stage in which we experience our dreams.

In the first few sleep cycles of the night, REM is extremely short – only a few minutes. But as the night goes on, we spend longer periods of time in REM, up to 30 minutes or more. Babies and children spend most of their sleep time in this stage, but as we grow older we spend less time in REM. REM in an adult comprises of 25% of total sleep time.

During REM sleep, our body causes Atonia, or paralysis, of the skeletal muscles. A natural and necessary reflex by our brain so one would not act out his dreams in real life. It remains unknown how the body triggers this and remains a subject of further study. Sometimes, when we become conscious, while our muscles are still paralyzed we experience a phenomenon known as sleep paralysis. Lucid dreamers are most interested in REM sleep because it is the stage in which most dreams occur. Some lucid dreamers take advantage of sleep paralysis, or even induce it, in order to enter directly into a lucid dream. This is known as a WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream). Other lucid dreamers use their knowledge of sleep stages to set alarms for themselves in the later half of the night, so that they can induce a lucid dream more easily and at a time when REM is longest.

Oneironauts, explorers of the unknown tapestries of dreams use lucidity to consciously enter into a world created by their mind. They scientifically study dreams and quench human thirst for answers like correlation between dreaming and how our brain functions while in a dream, dream interpretations, memory formation and mental disorders.

Lucid Dreaming & Mental Illness

There’s no evidence that lucid dreaming can bring on mental illness. In fact, lucid dreaming has recently been linked to resilience, the ability to maintain stability during and after traumatic events. Lucid dreaming is used clinically to help cope with nightmares, and is considered by many psychologists to promote psychological growth and encourage problem solving.

Shamanic Side of Lucid Dreaming: Lucid Dreaming and Vision Seeking

Now for some cross-cultural context of this association between lucidity, visions and stress, throughout history, and in some indigenous cultures today, young people are encouraged to bring on lucid dreams and hypnagogic visions through the vision quest complex. This process instigates all the stressors that co-occur with anxiety conditions and sleep disorders, including sleep deprivation, disordered sleeping, social isolation, and prolonged fasting.

This is the shamanic side of lucid dreaming.

The difference, of course, is that these rituals are culturally supported. They are done within a context of initiation into adulthood and backed by a supportive spirituality that view dreams and visions not as illness but as profound, meaningful experiences. They are not illusions, but more real than real.

Lucidity in dreams does not make us enlightened by default. Lucidity is not good or bad, healthy or unhealthy: it’s a natural product of arousal during sleep and other states of consciousness. Lucid dreaming is a skill that can be applied—and misapplied—for many purposes and intentions.

Visionary Dreaming & Healing

Moments of solitude, contemplation and introspection can bring great healing to a soul, and it is through healing that this natural ability of visionary dreaming returns. Lucidity is often lost at a young age, taken from the child that must endure life in harsh surroundings, punished by the world for its uniqueness. Lucidity is a gift that returns—with the acceptance of ones individuality.

Techniques of journaling, dream analysis, vision questing, bodywork, drumming, fasting and many other forms of expression bring about the natural alignment of the etheric bodies, alignments of awareness that allow the memory of our night time activities to seep into the conscious mind, as having a lucid dream is not an activity that one must achieve. We don’t have to worry about creating the experiences; it is merely about remembering them. Learning to bask in moments of solitude is one of the most powerful tools in reclaiming this lost power of our nighttime travels and remembrance is only a dream away. Lucid dreams can be anything you wish them to be. It is one of life’s most beautiful free treasures.

Life of an Enlightened

Enlightenment (spiritual), a final blessed state free from ignorance, desire and suffering, the knowledge that we are all cosmically united as a race of humans unrelating to race, creed, or any other man made dividing lines.

Enlightenment in a secular context often means the “full comprehension of a situation”, but in spiritual terms the word alludes to a spiritual revelation or deep insight into the meaning and purpose of all things, communication with or understanding of the mind of God, profound spiritual understanding or a fundamentally changed consciousness whereby everything is perceived as a unity.

Some scientists believe that during meditative states leading up to the subjective experience of enlightenment there are actual physical changes in the brain. In New Age Christianity, enlightenment is obtained by direct infusion from the Sacred Rays. The Sacred Rays are continuous streams of energy, consciousness, love and data from the Godhead that are color coded into 12 different frequencies. This energy is above gamma rays and not observable by current science. Nevertheless, these Rays can supposedly be caught by the higher self’s five different chakras, and then absorbed into the meditator’s more physical bodies, and retained within the 7 lower chakras, or the seven churches of John’s Revelation. There are 12 human chakras in this system, total.

There are also 12 petals on the heart chakra in this system. Specifically, these 12 petals are also designed to catch and hold the 12 sacred energies of enlightenment. The theory goes that as the energy from the 12 Sacred Rays accumulates in the chakras and petals, the higher-self will eventually become activated. This, in turn, allows the enlightened individual to displace and transcend the selfish ego and quickly develop supernatural abilities, including the fruits and the gifts of the Spirit, perfect peace, the realization of the unity of all things, raise kundalini, and develop the siddhas of Hinduism.

Hinduism also uses similar ideas, moksha being a representation of freedom from desire and other worldly passions. For Hindus as for Buddhists and Jains, enlightenment ends the cycle of reincarnation. Souls are held to enter many different bodies through the course of their existence. In each of the lives they lead, they develop spiritually. The ultimate goal of this spiritual development is the liberation from the system of earthly suffering. The concept of spiritual enlightenment in Buddhism and Hinduism is related to but distinct from ideas such as salvation and transcendence associated with Christianity.

Enlightenment is not accomplished by intellectual insight, dogmatic beliefs, or physical works in this method. It is more a product of dedicated meditation, surrender to Spirit and absorption of God’s grace, as contained in the Sacred Rays. This long process ultimately transforms “the old man” into “the new man”. It is also considered to be the “New Birth” by New Age Christians.

The Rozabal Shrine of Srinagar is a documentary film produced by the Films Division of Government of India for educational purposes based on the writer-director Yashendra’s research on the subject. The Rozabal Shrine in Srinagar, India, contains one of the biggest mysteries of the world. It contains the tomb of Yuza Asaf who is supposed to be none other than Jesus Christ ! A Two-Time Universe: The Unified View from Higher Dimensional Space and Time

For a long time, Itzhak Bars has been studying time. More than a decade ago, the USC College physicist began pondering the role time plays in the basic laws of physics — the equations describing matter, gravity and the other forces of nature and he is all geared up to bring it to the scientific community in a year or two. Itzhak Bars, from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Southern California suggests that there exist two dimensions of time and not one, not the one we are familiar with. He proposed a way to test his heretical idea and suggested a theory as well which will test his hypothesis next year.

Itzhak Bars, whose long term goal involves the construction of the unified theory at its fundamental level, has mind wobbling ideas toward the basic structure of how we perceive dimensional reality. “There isn’t just one dimension of time,” Itzhak Bars tells New Scientist. “There are two. One whole dimension of time and another of space have until now gone entirely unnoticed by us.”

As hopelessly bizarre as it may sound, Bars claims his theory of “two time physics”, which he has developed over more than a decade, can help solve problems with current theories of the cosmos and, crucially, has true predictive power that can be tested in a forthcoming particle physics experiment. If it is confirmed, it could point the way to a “theory of everything” that unites all the physical laws of the universe into one, notably general relativity that governs gravity and the large scale structure of the universe, as also the quantum theory that encompasses the subatomic reality. Itzhak Bars’s research is driven by some of the current questions in Cosmology, the Standard Model of elementary particles, and unification of forces including quantum gravity in the framework of string theory or M-theory also known as the theory of everything. The mysteries that are hoped to be resolved include the physics of the very early universe and how it determined the gauge symmetries (forces) and the families of quarks and leptons (matter) that we observe today. Once the fundamental theory is constructed it is likely that it will suggest the best approach to answer our current mysteries, including dark matter, dark energy and a host of issues related to masses and interactions of quarks, leptons and force particles.

All the physics we know with certainty today at microscopic or macroscopic distance scales is embodied in principle in the fundamental laws described by the Standard Model of Particles and Forces, and in General Relativity. Only a few, though, believe that more than one dimension of time exists. Bars pioneered efforts to discern how a second dimension of time could help physicists better explain nature.

“Itzhak Bars has a long history of finding new mathematical symmetries that might be useful in physics,” said Joe Polchinski, a physicist at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UC Santa Barbara. “This two-time idea seems to have some interesting mathematical properties.” If Bars is on the right track, some of the most basic processes in physics will need re-examination. Something as simple as how particles move, for example, could be viewed in a new way. In classical physics (before the days of quantum theory), a moving particle was completely described by its momentum (its mass times its velocity) and its position. But quantum physics says you can never know those two properties precisely at the same time. Bars alters the laws describing motion even more, postulating that position and momentum are not distinguishable at a given instant of time. Technically, they can be related by a mathematical symmetry, meaning that swapping position for momentum leaves the underlying physics unchanged (just as a mirror switching left and right doesn’t change the appearance of a symmetrical face).

In ordinary physics, position and momentum differ because the equation for momentum involves velocity. Since velocity is distance divided by time, it requires the notion of a time dimension. If swapping the equations for position and momentum really doesn’t change anything, then position needs a time dimension too. “If I make position and momentum indistinguishable from one another, then something is changing about the notion of time,” said Bars. “If I demand a symmetry like that, I must have an extra time dimension.” Since the early stages of string theory in the 1970s, string field theory (SFT) was recognized to be a non-perturbative approach to string theory. Among all the formulations of string theory since its inception, string field theory stands out as the most complete scheme as a non-perturbative formulation that seems, in principle, to be better positioned to answer the central physics questions. “One of the main goals of SFT (and indeed of all the efforts in string theory) is understanding the vacuum state and how we ended up in four dimensions. This includes elucidating the physics of the very early universe and how this determined the gauge symmetries (forces) and the families of quarks and leptons (matter) that we observe today.”

Today, theoreticians are studying a theory of everything called M-theory that adds yet another dimension, taking the total to 11: 10 of space and one of time. Until now, they have been reluctant to meddle with time because it can lead to unexpected consequences, such as time travel. Changing our picture of time from a line to a plane (one to two dimensions) means that the path between the past and future could loop back on itself, allowing you to travel back and forward in time and allowing the famous grandfather paradox, where you could go back and kill your grandfather before your mother was born, thereby preventing your own birth. Bars first found hints of an extra time dimension in M-theory in 1995 and, when he looked into it, discovered the grandfather paradox and other fears could be overcome by using a new kind of symmetry – a mathematical property to work out the relationship between the quantities of position and momentum. It is this symmetry that might help reconcile the two mighty pillars of 20th-century physics, quantum mechanics and relativity. Simply adding an extra dimension of time doesn’t solve everything, however. To produce equations that work with the new symmetry that describe the world accurately, an additional dimension of space is needed as well, giving a total of four space dimensions, he explained in the journal Physical Review D. According to Bars, the familiar four dimensional world we see around us is merely a “shadow” of the six-dimensional reality, just as a hand makes many different shadows on a wall when lit from different angles. Although we cannot experience the extra time dimension directly, we can effectively notice it through the different perspectives of the different “shadows”. In this sense, he points to already existing evidence of physical phenomena at both macroscopic and microscopic scales.

Furthermore, he believes that more evidence for his theory could emerge next year, when particles are smashed together in CERN’s Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland to create hitherto unseen “supersymmetric” particles. Efforts to formulate a clear and complete version of M theory have so far failed. “Nobody has yet told us what the fundamental form of M theory is,” Bars said. “We just have clues — we don’t know what it is.” Adopting the more symmetric two-time approach may help. Describing the 11 dimensions of M theory in the language of two-time physics would require adding one time dimension plus one space dimension, giving nature 11 space and two time dimensions. “The two-time version of M theory would have a total of 13 dimensions,” Bars said. For some people, that might be considered unlucky. But for Bars, it’s a reason for optimism. “My hope,” he says, “is that this path that I am following will actually bring me to the right place.”

It feels ironically proud to know where man has reached while pursuing the theories of everything, as much as it is paradoxical to admit that he hasn’t been able to unfold mind’s mysteries.

Anima is a documentary film from Dominoes Falling Productions, that has been made from a collaboration of various material. The word Anima (an·i·ma) is the Latin translation of the Greek word psyche.

Philosophy: A Psychological Approach Towards Metaphysics

Sometimes philosophers deal with questions of truth and sometimes with questions of goodness; sometimes they offer consolation for life’s sorrows and sometimes they are purely pragmatic. In the philosophy of science, a theory may be valued only for its predictive capability ; its truth or falsity may be immaterial. In ethics, philosophy may have a prescriptive function, offering a preferred set of values; but where those values originate from is a debatable question.

We all hold a traditional view that philosophy is the attempt to define a qualitative approach to life. This view implies that philosophy is the analysis and interpretation of values and standards, within the thinker’s experience of reality. But values and standards are also the domain of psychology. Therefore there is a great deal of overlap between the two disciplines.

Philosophy separated from psychology in the nineteenth century, under the need to put logic and logical analysis on a mathematical basis. However, logic is only one of the two tools that are needed for analytical thinking. The other tool is the ability to observe the associations between ideas – this tool is a psychological one. Hence effective thinking in philosophy requires both rational and psychological forms of analytical ability. The nineteenth-century separation of philosophy from psychology removed much of the content from British philosophy and gradually put it to sleep. We are trying to enroll the two disciplines back together again.

What is the relation between these two disciplines ?

The way we all must have consistently experienced it is that psychology limits philosophy, psychology sets the boundaries within which philosophy can range. The narrower the range of a person’s psychological understanding of life, so correspondingly will the authentic range of his philosophy also be narrow. Without an adequate understanding of life, so the thinker is dependent on imagination and prejudice when trying to stretch his ideas to fit aspects of reality that he has never experienced.

Within a perspective that emphasizes the qualitative features of life we will find that philosophy provides most of the framework and psychology provides much of the content. The effectiveness of philosophy to define a qualitative approach to life rests on its analysis of psychology : this enables the individual to create himself within the context of his historical situation.

More generally, the purpose of philosophy is to abstract what is valid from all realms of value so as to enable the person to create his or her own identity ; the historical situation determines what is holistically possible.The results of such philosophical analysis should be consistent with the empirical results of psychology.

Metaphysics and Logic

The highest realm of thought for man is that of metaphysics. Since man is a part of this realm he can approach metaphysics through his own understanding of life. Metaphysics is not theology. Man cannot know god but he can understand concepts that concern the nature of reality and being. Metaphysics deals with the creativity and destructiveness within creation, with the purpose and the meaning of evolution, and the way that it functions. Man enters into metaphysical discourse when he creates values and meanings. All conceptions of reality are based on metaphysical ideas. Even within orthodox science, concepts such as force (for example: electricity, magnetism, gravitation) and laws of causation are metaphysical concepts : their existence can never be verified directly, but only indirectly through their effects. Traditional philosophy has metaphysics or ethics as its starting point. But psychology was hardly explored then. Within tradition, what passes as truth, may sometimes be only idealism or wish-fulfilment. The psychological boundaries of the traditional thinker formed a perspective of denying validity to the material world. The material world, a world of constant change, could not be accepted as a real world; the real world somehow lay behind all the change, like an archetype. So ethics and metaphysics had to conform to a world-hating, world-denying, mentality. Ethics was often formulated in ways that enabled a person to survive in an uncertain realm of pain and sorrow.The exploration of consciousness began in earnest in modern times with the ideas of Rene Descartes and Thomas Hobbes. Hobbes started his political philosophy with a psychological profile of his contemporary, seventeenth-century Englishmen. Eventually the reaction against the attitude of world-denial produced the compensating swing to materialism as the basis of philosophy. Materialism has its place in any system of thought that attempts to understand reality.To try to ascertain what is truth requires the reduction, even the elimination, of psychological boundaries ; the philosopher of reality needs to be a psychologist too. A genuine metaphysics is not a flight from materialism but assimilates it into a greater perspective that has fewer boundaries. The practical importance of the role of psychology as the base of philosophy is dramatically illustrated in the problem of good and evil. A person’s attitude to this problem defines their ethics, or at least the code that they live by. Within the Christian and the Indian world-denying mentalities the problem of the existence of evil cannot be solved.

Understanding of emotion leads to the relativity of good and evil. Neither absolute good nor absolute evil exists, but each arises from the other : good arises from evil, and evil arises from good. Within evolution, creativity arises from destructiveness, and destructiveness arises from creativity. Read on Releasing Duality.

The exponents of analytical logic in the early half of the twentieth century believed that their logic would downgrade metaphysics to the status of being purely a nonsensical thought system. Only philosophers with no understanding of psychology could take such a view. To explore metaphysics requires the combination of intuition with rationality, and both develop within the constraints of psychology. Intuition is right-brain centred, and rationality is left-brain centred. Using both together produces holistic thinking.
All non-sceptical philosophies, and these include those produced by analytical logicians, are underpinned by two psychological premisses, which are :

My philosophy represents truth for me.
What is truth for me is truth for everyone else.

The first premiss is subjective and the second one provides for objectivity. The sceptic omits the second belief. The first premiss just demonstrates the psychological limitations of the person ; it indicates the range of that person’s experience of life. The wider that range of experience then the wider must philosophy become in order to explain it. The poverty of experience of analytical philosophers was reflected in the poverty of their conceptual thinking.

East Meets West on Evolution’s Border

The official theme of the third annual Science and Nonduality conference was “On the Edge of Time,” but the unofficial narrative was about time running out on the flat-earth paradigms of our day: the world works like a machine, consciousness follows matter, our lives are essentially meaningless, we are in this thing alone. Indeed, in listening to the many voices representing both science and spirituality, it was clear that while there is no ultimate agreement on the nature of nonduality—“essential unity” in the Advaita tradition of Hindu philosophy—there was near unanimous recognition that a new era for humanity is emerging, and evolving around our innate interconnectedness. It’s an awkward emergence, to be sure, like the first faltering steps of a child learning to walk, but animated by unstoppable forces.

“The next Buddha is the sangha,” Vietnamese poet-activist Thich Nhat Hanh is quoted as saying, implying that the future of the planet depends on the awakening of the many, not the heroic efforts of the few (sangha refers to a community of spiritual practitioners). From the convulsive initiation of Arab Spring to the still amorphous Occupy Wall Street movement (now “the 99 percent”), the impulse for change is spreading rapidly and widely, like a benevolent virus fighting off the antibodies of outdated belief systems.

Speaker after speaker invoked how entangled we all are, from the micro to the macro, from the cellular to the cosmic. Those whose worldviews are rooted in ancient spiritual traditions cited the mystical texts and teachers of their religions: Rabbi David Cooper spoke of the mysticism of the Kabbalah, which declared “It gave rise to God, to heaven, and to earth.” Llewelyn Vaughn Lee recalled an ancient Sufi saying about the yearning for the Divine: “I am he who I love, and who I love is me.” Father Richard Rohr reminded us of Jesus’s caution, “As you do unto others, you do unto me.” And Buddhist teacher-activist David Loy brought forth the Vedantic saying, “All is self.”

When considered beyond their clichéd familiarity, these are remarkable statements. And perhaps even more remarkable is the movement of science toward similar conclusions. Physicist-meditator John Hagelin calmly proposed that “the structure of the superstring [theory in physics] corresponds exactly to the structure of pure consciousness,” and he showed dozens of slides to make his point. IONS’ Dean Radin presented seventy-five years of psi research, with average effect sizes equal to and even greater than what normally qualifies as evidential validity—we are, indeed, entangled. Eminent physicist Menas Kafatos fluently entwined the concepts of quantum mechanics with ancient Eastern thought while noting that Sir Isaac Newton wrote extensively about mysticism. And on it went.

Granted, there is as much speculation on the side of science as there is faith on the side of the spiritual, but is it a coincidence that these dualities of belief and ontology are inexorably moving closer together at this time (remember Fritjof Capra’s The Tao of Physics)? Although consciousness comes first in the East and last in the West, these two central paradigms seem to be spiraling together like strands of DNA in a dance of evolutionary creativity. And to what purpose? According to science writer Lynn McTaggart, spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen, integral theorist Ken Wilber, David Loy, and others at the conference, it’s the ineffable pull toward wholeness and connection in which we are waking up to our role as active agents. Does that suggest an intelligently designed universe? And who, or what, is the designer?

And yet for all the high-minded and inspirational talk, I leave the final, simpler words to nonduality teacher Rupert Spira, who reminded us that while we live in a world of swirling chaos, uncertainty, creativity, and emergence, the real action is in the now: “If the past and the future are never experienced other than by a thought occurring now, what does that say about time? And when we do not resist what is, when we do not seek what is not, we are…happy.”
