In a world of push notifications, instant messaging, and auto-corrected emails, there’s a quiet revolution happening — one that’s ink-stained, slow-paced, and deeply personal. Welcome to the analog revival.

At 215 Ink, we’ve always believed in the power of the pen — not just as a writing tool, but as a way of reconnecting with our thoughts, our words, and the world around us. More and more people are rediscovering the joy of putting pen to paper, embracing journaling, letter writing, sketching, and note-taking in their raw, unfiltered form. It’s not nostalgia. It’s a return to something real.

Why Analog Now?

We spend our lives staring at screens. The average person scrolls through nearly 6,000 words a day — most of which vanish the moment they’re read. But handwriting? That’s different. It asks us to slow down. To be intentional. To feel the words as we form them.

Whether it’s the scratch of nib on paper, the scent of a favorite notebook, or the satisfying heft of a well-crafted fountain pen — analog writing awakens the senses in a way digital never could.

For many, this isn’t just a hobby — it’s therapy. It’s mindfulness in motion.

The Pen as a Personal Statement

At 215 Ink, every fountain pen we craft is more than just a writing instrument. It’s a story — hand-shaped from exotic woods, balanced with care, and designed to become a trusted companion in your daily ritual.

Our pens aren’t mass-produced. They don’t come off an assembly line. Each one is made by hand, meant to live a life with you — from journal entries and to-do lists to poems and postcards.

Choosing to write by hand is a small rebellion in a fast world. Choosing a handmade pen to do it with? That’s a statement of intent.

Join the Movement

We’re not alone in this. Writers, artists, students, thinkers, and dreamers all over the world are reconnecting with analog. The rise in bullet journaling, calligraphy, and snail mail tells us something loud and clear: the handwritten word still matters.

So whether you’re a seasoned fountain pen enthusiast or just starting to explore the analog life, we invite you to join us. Pick up a pen. Write something that won’t disappear with a swipe.

The return of the handwritten word is here — and we’re proud to be part of it.

Stay analog,
The 215 Ink Team

There’s something special about the connection between pen lovers, calligraphy enthusiasts, and the curious minds drawn to the analog world. Whether you’re obsessed with fountain pens, love journaling, or just enjoy handwriting for the calming ritual it brings, bringing like-minded folks together can spark creativity and foster friendships. At 215 Ink, we believe in building communities around the beauty of slow writing—and that starts right in your own backyard.

Here’s how to host your very own handwriting or pen meet-up in your community.

1. Define the Vibe and Purpose

Start by deciding what kind of meet-up you want to host. Is it a casual hangout where people bring their favorite pens and notebooks? A structured workshop with practice sheets and guided exercises? A calligraphy jam session with snacks and music?

Some ideas to consider:

Fountain pen swap or ink sampling

Journaling or letter-writing sessions

Calligraphy or handwriting improvement workshops

DIY pen cleaning stations and demos

Show-and-tell for rare or vintage pens

Pick a theme or structure that fits your crowd and your personality. Keep it chill, educational, or just plain fun—whatever works for your community.

2. Pick a Great Location

Look for cozy, well-lit, and quiet spots where people can comfortably write and talk. Some go-to places include:

Local cafés or tea houses (bonus if they love hosting creatives)

Libraries or community centers

Bookstores with event space

Art supply shops or co-ops

Your own home or a friend’s studio if it’s a small group

Make sure there are plenty of tables, outlets (for those bringing lights or tools), and easy access to restrooms. Ask if the venue is okay with ink spills—just in case.

3. Spread the Word

Promote your meet-up through social media, local Facebook groups, Reddit (check r/fountainpens or r/pen_swap), and community bulletin boards. Don’t forget to post on Instagram with hashtags like #penmeet, #fountainpenmeetup, or #analogcommunity. You can also create a simple flyer to drop off at local stationery or pen stores.

Apps like Meetup.com and Eventbrite are also great for organizing RSVPs and giving your event a bit of structure.

4. Prepare the Essentials

Even a casual gathering goes smoother with a little prep. Here are a few things to consider bringing:

Blank paper and writing samples

Paper towels and water for cleaning nibs

Name tags and Sharpies (for that analog touch)

Spare pens or inks for newbies to try

215 Ink pens on display (naturally 😉)

Snacks or drinks (if the venue allows)

If you’re planning any demos or writing prompts, print a few extras in case new folks drop in.

5. Create a Welcoming Space

Whether you have five people or twenty, make everyone feel seen. Greet folks as they arrive, ask them what they write with, and invite them to share what they’re working on. Encourage swapping pens, trying new inks, and giving compliments freely.

Some folks might be brand new to the world of handwriting or fountain pens—this is your chance to inspire them.

6. Follow Up and Stay Connected

After the meet-up, share photos and highlights online (with permission, of course). Tag participants and your location to give them a shoutout. Ask attendees if they’d be interested in future events or even forming a regular pen club.

Starting a group chat or email list can help keep the momentum going and build a little analog-loving community of your own.

Final Thoughts

Hosting a handwriting or pen meet-up doesn’t have to be complicated. With a bit of planning and a lot of heart, you can create a space where people slow down, share stories, and celebrate the joy of writing by hand. And who knows—you might even inspire the next generation of fountain pen lovers.

Have you hosted or attended a pen meet-up? Tag us @215Ink and show us your setup—we’d love to see it!

If you’ve recently invested in a quality fountain pen—especially something handcrafted like our exotic wood fountain pens at 215 Ink—you’ll want to pair it with paper that brings out the best in your writing. Not all stationery is created equal, and when it comes to fountain pens, the wrong paper can quickly turn a smooth writing experience into a smudgy, feathered mess.

Here’s what to look for when shopping for fountain pen-friendly stationery:

1. Paper Weight (GSM Matters)

The most common cause of ink bleeding or ghosting (when ink shows through to the other side of the paper) is thin, low-quality paper. Look for paper with a weight of at least 80gsm—though 90-100gsm is ideal. Heavier paper can better absorb ink without letting it bleed or show through.

2. Coating & Texture

Fountain pen-friendly paper often has a slight coating that controls ink absorption. This helps prevent feathering (when ink spreads out in tiny lines, like a feather). While glossy papers can resist ink, they often cause smudging and slow dry times. The sweet spot is smooth but not too slick, often found in premium notebooks like Tomoe River, Rhodia, or Clairefontaine.

3. Dry Time vs. Absorption

Fast dry times are important if you’re writing quickly or taking notes on the go. However, highly absorbent paper may feather more or dull the ink color. You want balanced absorption—just enough to prevent smudges, without sacrificing crisp lines or shading.

4. Ink Behavior: Sheen, Shading & Saturation

If you enjoy using inks with high shading or sheen (think rich gradients or subtle color shifts), your paper can make or break the effect. High-quality paper highlights these characteristics, while poor-quality paper can flatten them completely. For ink lovers, premium, smooth paper is worth the investment.

5. Binding & Format

Whether you prefer writing in journals, legal pads, or loose sheets, pay attention to how the paper is bound. A sturdy binding that lays flat (like sewn or spiral-bound notebooks) makes writing more comfortable—especially with a fountain pen that performs best at a consistent angle.

A Few Favorite Brands to Try

Here at 215 Ink, we’ve tested our handmade fountain pens on a variety of papers. Some standout performers include:

Rhodia – Silky smooth, excellent for everyday use, and widely available.

Tomoe River – Extremely thin yet incredibly fountain pen-friendly; perfect for ink lovers who enjoy shading and sheen.

Clairefontaine – French-made, ultra-smooth paper with a luxurious feel and superb ink handling.

Nitoms/Stalogy – My personal favorite and what I use every day.

In Summary: Invest in the Right Paper

A fountain pen is more than just a writing tool—it’s an experience. And just like a fine bottle of wine deserves a proper glass, your pen deserves the right paper. Choosing fountain pen-friendly stationery elevates everything from your daily journaling to the notes you jot in a meeting.

So next time you’re picking out paper, remember: the feel, the weight, the finish—it all matters. Your pen (and your writing) will thank you.

In a world that seems to move faster by the day—where messages fly through the air in milliseconds and to-do lists stretch endlessly—it’s no surprise that more and more people are seeking ways to slow down. A quiet revolution is taking place. It’s called slow living, and it’s about reconnecting with intention, presence, and the beauty of doing one thing at a time.

At 215 Ink, we believe that slowing down can start with something as simple—and powerful—as putting pen to paper.

The Lost Art of the Written Word

Typing is fast. Efficient. Disposable. But handwriting? It demands something more: your time, your focus, and your attention. And in giving those things, you receive something even greater in return—mindfulness.

When you pick up a handmade wooden fountain pen, you’re not just grabbing a tool. You’re engaging with an object that has weight, warmth, and history. Every curve of the wood tells a story. Each line you write becomes an act of presence.

Writing as a Ritual

Handwriting transforms everyday moments into a ritual. Whether you’re journaling at sunrise, drafting a thoughtful letter to a friend, or simply jotting down your thoughts at the end of a long day, the act of writing with a well-crafted pen becomes a form of meditation.

The feel of the wood in your hand, the gentle resistance of the nib on paper, the subtle rhythm of ink flowing—it’s a sensory experience that draws you back into the now. In a culture of constant distraction, that kind of focused stillness is rare. And essential.

Why Wood Pens?

Unlike plastic pens (Bic) churned out by the thousands, our wood fountain pens are handmade from exotic and sustainably sourced woods—each one as unique as your fingerprint. The tactile quality of wood grounds you. It connects you to nature. It slows your breath. It changes your pace.

Wood has a soul, and writing with it reminds us that there’s beauty in imperfection and value in taking things slow.

A Tool for Mindful Living

We design our pens to be more than writing instruments. They’re companions on your journey to a more intentional life. Whether you’re sketching ideas, journaling thoughts, or writing the next chapter of your story, our pens invite you to savor the moment.

In a fast world, slow writing is a radical act. And we’re here for it.

Ready to Slow Down?

Explore our collection of handmade wood fountain pens and find the one that speaks to you. Whether you’re just beginning your mindfulness journey or you’re a seasoned slow-living advocate, there’s a 215 Ink pen waiting to become part of your ritual.

✍️ Write slow. Live fully.

At 215 Ink, each handmade wood fountain pen is crafted with intention, care, and character. These are not mass-produced tools—they’re writing companions, heirlooms in the making. To keep your pen writing beautifully and looking its best for years to come, a little regular care goes a long way. Whether you’re a seasoned fountain pen enthusiast or new to the world of fine writing instruments, here’s a simple guide to help you protect your pen and the craftsmanship behind it.

1. Keep It Clean – But Gently

Ink buildup can impact how your pen writes over time. We recommend cleaning your fountain pen every 4–8 weeks, or whenever you’re changing ink colors.

Here’s how:

Disassemble the pen: Remove the nib, feed, and converter or cartridge.

Rinse the nib and feed with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water—it can warp delicate parts.

Use a bulb syringe to flush water through the nib section until it runs clear.

Let the parts air dry completely before reassembling.

Pro tip: Never use harsh chemicals or alcohol-based cleaners, especially on wood. Water is all you need.

2. Protect the Wood Finish

Our pens are made from carefully selected hardwoods, each with its own grain, tone, and personality. Wood is alive—it breathes, it ages, it changes. That’s part of its magic. But like any natural material, it needs care.

What to do:

Wipe your pen with a soft, dry cloth after use to remove oils and moisture from your hands.

Occasionally apply a small amount of natural wood polish or mineral oil using a microfiber cloth. This helps maintain its luster and prevents drying or cracking.

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, or overly humid environments.

3. Store It the Right Way

When you’re not using your pen, store it horizontally or nib-up to avoid leaks. A protective case or pen sleeve is ideal—especially if you’re tossing it in a bag or drawer. If you’re storing it long-term, empty the ink and give it a cleaning first.

4. Use It Often

Fountain pens are made to be used. The more you write with your pen, the smoother it becomes. Regular use helps keep the ink flowing and prevents clogs. Plus, you’ll find a rhythm that makes the pen feel even more like an extension of your hand.

5. Respect the Nib

Our pens come equipped with high-quality nibs designed for a balanced, enjoyable writing experience. Still, they’re precision instruments—so avoid pressing too hard or writing on rough surfaces. If your pen ever starts writing scratchy or inconsistent, it may just need a cleaning or a simple nib tune-up.

Final Thoughts

Owning a handmade wood fountain pen is about more than writing—it’s about slowing down, being intentional, and connecting to the tools you use every day. With just a little care, your 215 Ink pen will stay beautiful, functional, and personal for decades.

If you ever have questions or need help with your pen, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to make sure every pen we craft keeps telling stories for generations.

In an increasingly digital world, the simple act of writing by hand has become a lost art. But science—and psychology—are starting to show what many pen enthusiasts already know: writing things down isn’t just nostalgic, it’s powerful. At 215 Ink, we believe that how you write matters just as much as what you write. That’s why our handcrafted wooden pens are designed to help you slow down, refocus, and reconnect with your thoughts.

Writing by Hand Engages the Brain

Typing is efficient—but it’s often mechanical. Writing by hand, on the other hand, activates multiple regions of the brain linked to memory, attention, and creativity. Research shows that people who take handwritten notes retain information better and think more critically about what they write. The tactile feedback of a pen on paper creates a physical connection that digital tools simply can’t replicate.

The Role of Ritual in Focus

Focus isn’t just about avoiding distractions—it’s about entering a mental state of clarity. Small rituals can help you get there. Holding a well-crafted pen, feeling the grain of the wood, uncapping it with intention—these small acts slow you down and invite you into a more mindful headspace. A wooden pen doesn’t just write—it anchors you in the moment.

Natural Materials, Natural Mindset

Wood has a grounding effect. Its warmth, texture, and scent have been shown to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm. When your tools are made from organic materials, they bring you closer to the natural rhythms of your own creativity. Our pens aren’t mass-produced—they’re shaped by hand, one at a time, from exotic wood. That means each one is unique, just like your thoughts.

Analog Tools in a Digital Age

There’s nothing wrong with digital tools. But when it’s time to really think—when you’re brainstorming, journaling, or sketching out ideas—analog tools can be a better companion. They don’t ping, buzz, or alert. They simply exist, waiting for you to pick them up and pour your mind onto the page.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a wooden pen is more than a stylistic preference—it’s a psychological investment. It’s a choice to write with intention, to think more clearly, and to reconnect with the creative parts of yourself that are too often dulled by screens and speed.

At 215 Ink, we make fountain pens for thinkers, creators, and anyone ready to slow down and focus on what matters.

At 215 Ink, every pen we craft tells a story—one that begins not on our workbench, but deep in the heart of nature. When you hold one of our handmade wood fountain pens, you’re holding more than just a writing instrument. You’re holding a piece of a tree’s life, shaped by time, weather, and earth—then transformed with purpose and care into something functional, beautiful, and lasting.

It All Starts with the Wood

Our journey begins with a careful selection of wood. We don’t just look for the prettiest grain—we search for wood with character. Whether it’s Cocobolo, Briar, Gaboon Ebony, or an exotic burl with wild, unpredictable patterns, each piece is chosen for its story. Some of our wood comes from sustainable sources; some is reclaimed from old furniture, barns, or fallen trees. Giving this wood a second life is part of what makes our pens so special.

Shaping by Hand, Not Machine

Once in the shop, the raw wood is cut, shaped, and turned by hand. There’s no assembly line here. Every curve, every sanding pass, every polish is done with intention. It’s a slow, mindful process—one that allows the natural grain of the wood to guide the final form.

This hands-on approach is what sets handmade apart. No two pens are exactly alike, and that’s by design. The subtle imperfections, the variations in color, the feel of the grain beneath your fingers—that’s the soul of the piece.

Finishing Touches

After the turning and sanding, the pen is sealed and finished to protect the wood and enhance its natural beauty. We use finishes that are smooth to the touch but still allow the organic texture to shine through. Then comes the assembly—pairing the handcrafted body and cap with high-quality pen hardware to ensure a smooth, reliable writing experience.

A Connection to Craft

When your pen is finally complete, it’s not just a tool—it’s a piece of craftsmanship. A daily companion. A conversation starter. Something you reach for when you want to write with intention, whether it’s journaling, sketching, signing a letter, or just jotting a note.

Each 215 Ink pen is a quiet rebellion against the throwaway culture. It’s a return to the idea that everyday objects can be beautiful, meaningful, and built to last.

Your Story Continues It

From tree to treasure, every pen has a beginning—but its story doesn’t end with us. When you write with one of our pens, you’re adding your own chapter. And we think that’s pretty special.

When it comes to fountain pens, material matters. At 215 Ink, we believe that the tactile beauty of a pen goes hand-in-hand with how it feels in your hand. That’s why we specialize in handcrafted wood fountain pens—each one uniquely designed to elevate the writing experience. But beyond looks, wood offers a distinct combination of aesthetic and ergonomic differences to more common materials like metal or plastic.

Aesthetic Appeal: A Pen with Personality

One of the most obvious—and immediate—benefits of wood is its visual appeal. No two pieces of wood are exactly alike. Grain patterns, color variations, and even small imperfections give each pen a one-of-a-kind character. Whether it’s the dark, luxurious swirls of walnut or the warm, golden tones of Iron Wood, wood carries a natural elegance that synthetic materials sometimes lack.

For many writers, a beautiful pen isn’t just a tool—it’s a source of inspiration. Holding something uniquely yours can be the difference between a blank page and the first line of your next big idea.

Ergonomic Comfort: Warmth in Hand

Wood isn’t just easy on the eyes—it’s easy on the hands, too.

Unlike metal pens that can feel cold or heavy, or plastic ones that lack presence, wood offers a balanced, comfortable grip that naturally conforms to your hand. It has a subtle warmth to the touch that makes long writing sessions more enjoyable. And because each of our pens is handcrafted, we pay close attention to contours, weight distribution, and grip—fine-tuning each pen for optimal comfort and control.

Whether you’re journaling, sketching, or signing documents, a wooden pen helps reduce fatigue and promotes better posture through its feel and smooth handling.

Sustainability with Substance

Let’s not forget—wood is a renewable, biodegradable resource. By choosing a wooden fountain pen, you’re investing in craftsmanship that respects both form and function. At 215 Ink, we carefully source our materials and often work with reclaimed or sustainably harvested wood, letting nature’s artistry shine while keeping our footprint minimal.

Final Thoughts

A wood fountain pen does more than write—it connects you to your words. It brings together beauty, function, and mindfulness in a way that plastic and metal just can’t. Every pen we craft at 215 Ink is designed to make the writing experience more personal, more pleasurable, and more human.

Whether you’re a daily journaler, a stationery enthusiast, or someone who simply loves putting pen to paper, the feel of a handcrafted wood fountain pen in your hand might just change the way you write.

When it comes to fountain pens, few materials offer the same warmth, character, and natural beauty as wood. Each piece tells its own story through grain and texture, making wooden pens a favorite among collectors and everyday users alike. But as gorgeous as they are, wooden fountain pens come with their own set of engineering challenges—especially when it comes to one simple user preference: posting the cap.

What Makes a Pen “Postable”?

A “postable” pen is one where the cap can be securely attached to the back of the pen body while writing. For many users, this is a must—it keeps the cap from getting lost, and it also balances the pen nicely in the hand. But when you try to design a postable pen out of wood, things get complicated fast.

Size Constraints and Design Tradeoffs

Wood, unlike metal or resin, requires more material to maintain strength. A pen body has to be thick enough to prevent cracking, especially around threaded areas. This means that to make a cap that can slip over the back of the body and still look proportional, you need a pen with a very specific geometry—often one that results in a bulkier or longer design than some users may prefer. It’s a delicate balancing act between aesthetics, usability, and structural integrity.

Threading the Back of the Pen

One workaround I have been toying with, is to add threads to the back end of the pen body, allowing the cap to screw on instead of slipping over. This keeps the pen compact and securely posted. It’s a functional solution—but not without its drawbacks.

Wood just isn’t ideal for threading. Even with dense hardwoods, wooden threads tend to wear down over time, especially with repeated use. Posting and unposting a cap dozens or hundreds of times can lead to stripped threads or loosened fits, turning a once-secure mechanism into a frustrating wobble.

So What’s the Solution?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some makers choose to prioritize the purity of design and forgo postability altogether, encouraging users to keep the cap aside while writing. Others embrace hybrid designs, integrating metal/resin/ebonite where needed to provide longevity while still showcasing the beauty of the wood.

At the end of the day, making a postable wooden fountain pen is a careful balance of form and function. For those of us who love wood as a medium, these challenges are part of the craft—an ongoing puzzle where every new design brings us closer to the perfect pen.

At 215 Ink, we take pride in crafting high-quality fountain pens, and working with wood presents unique challenges that demand innovative solutions. At times, the wood we select has intricate grain that would be best used as a continuous flow from cap to body. One of the biggest hurdles we face when designing a wooden fountain pen with aligning grain is ensuring that the grain pattern on the cap and body aligns seamlessly when closed. While this may seem like a minor detail, it makes a significant difference in the aesthetics and craftsmanship of the final product.

The Problem: Misaligned Wood Grain

Wood is a natural material, and each blank used for a pen has a unique grain pattern. When we turn a pen on the lathe, we shape the cap and body from a single piece of wood to maintain continuity. However, once we introduce threading into the design, things become complicated. Most fountain pens use triple-start threads, which allow the cap to engage with the body at multiple starting points, making capping and uncapping faster and smoother. The downside? The grain will rarely align perfectly because the cap can screw on in three different positions.

The Solution: Single-Start Threads

To overcome this issue, we opted for a single-start thread. Unlike triple-start threads, which engage at three different points, single-start threads only allow the cap to start threading in one specific orientation. This means that every time the cap is screwed onto the body, it stops in the same position, ensuring that the wood grain remains perfectly aligned.

While single-start threads require more rotations to fully cap and uncap the pen, the trade-off is well worth it for those who appreciate the wood grain aligning. It transforms each pen into a visually cohesive piece, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.

Balancing Form and Function

Of course, using single-start threads also means we need to balance form with function. We use an antique tap and die set, similar to a machine screw type of thread which is thicker to ensure smooth engagement, preventing cross-threading and excessive resistance. This requires precise machining and careful material selection to ensure durability and ease of use.

At 215 Ink, we believe that craftsmanship is in the details. By making the choice to use single-start threads for select pieces of wood, we enhance the beauty and quality of our wooden fountain pens, ensuring that each piece is not only a pleasure to write with but also a true work of art.
