Wow it is hard to believe that Share Your Style has been partying on strong for four years now, and will hopefully go on for years to come. However as the saying goes...all good things must come to an end. So with that in mind, I have decided to step down from hosting SYS at the end of this month. It has been a great ride for me and I have really enjoyed being one of your weekly co-host. As you already know you are all in wonderfully capable hands with Kristen, Barbara and Meredith at the helm. I wish them the very best as they continue hosting SYS.
I also want to say thank you to all Share Your Style hosts, past, present and future!

This week's features definitely have a theme to them - organization! Maybe it's the New Year setting in, or Marie Kondo's new Netflix show 'Tidying Up', but I am ready to de-clutter and redecorate EVERY room in my house! First up on the to-do list this year is to give my new home office a makeover. I shared the mood board on my blog last year:

I can't wait to get started on this space!! It will be great to have a dedicated work space for myself to focus, and will also act as a guest room too.

Another area that we are focusing on this year is finishing up our kitchen makeover. The moodboard was shared last year too, and we've made some good progress on it over the past few months! We just need to put up the new backsplash, finish painting the lower cabinets and we'll be all done.

Crafting With a Family shared 3 Easy De-cluttering tips for the New Year! I'm a very lazy person when it comes to cleaning, so I need all the tips I can get!!

H2o Bungalow has a great project detailing how to add extra shelves to your kitchen cabinets! I would love to add this to our kitchen makeover this year to get some extra storage space for some smaller dishes. Our glass containers for leftovers are a NIGHTMARE!!

She's Crafty shows a great project to get your entire family organized for the year with a clipboard command centre! I love that it uses clipboards and command hooks for an easy and REMOVABLE command centre - it can always be changing to suite what your family needs.

Simply Designing used IKEA pieces to completely organize a small pantry & linen closet.. both of which are things I'm working on this year!

And last but not least, So Much Better With Age is sharing a printable list of Items to Throw out TODAY to help you de-clutter your entire house! We have already sent A LOT to thrift stores, with lots more to go!

Rain on a Tin Roof shares how to make these adorable wagons out of crates. She's using them here as Christmas decor, but young children would probably love playing with them and storing some of their stuffed animals inside them.

I happen to love all things miniature, especially dollhouses. So it's no surprise that I should feature A Debbie Dabble's Christmas home tour of her Victorian dollhouse. She'll take you room by room and show you how she decorated it for Christmas. One of these days I'll have to share my own dollhouse with everyone.

If you're looking for ideas to use on your New Years Eve dinner table, look no further than Debbees Buzz. She created this stunning celestial tablescape to ring in the New Year! Can you imagine sitting with your family or friends to ring in the New Year at this table!

Have you ever been to New York City? Mary from The Boondocks Blog, recently moved here from Greece and often shares her new city with everyone; including her latest post about the spectacular tree at Rockefeller Center. I've been here in the middle of summer, but I would love to visit here during the Christmas season and see the ice skating rink and lights during this time of year.

Crafting A Family shares her recipe for an easy and quick breakfast overnight French toast casserole. After reading through this, I know I'll be making this sometime we have overnight guests. It looks and sound delicious!

Orphans with Makeup gives us an excellent tutorial on making some handmade "vintage" ornaments. These are just gorgeous! thank you Mary for this inspiration.

Rever en Couleur (Dream in Color) shares her kitchen brick wall transformation and it's beautiful. Years ago, I whitewashed my brick fireplace and have never regretted and get so many compliments. If you have been thinking of doing it.....Just do it!

Marty, a long long time friend on blogger, puts a spin on Christmas decor with her gorgeous rusty orange theme. She explains how she did it very inexpensively. Click on over to see this non-traditional theme at her blog A Stroll Thru Life.

Are you looking for a last minute, easy, inexpensive, personalized gift? The blog H2O Bungalow shares her tutorial on how to add words to a candle. These are just so charming.

Finally, this post really really captured my heart. When my children were little, a holiday tradition was the making of the gingerbread house and on New Year's Eve, they got to "destroy" it and eat wasn't what as hard as a brick. They thought that was the grandest thing! The blog Home Cooking Memories shares with us what could easily become a new tradition. How fun and delicious is this? A gingerbread house milkshake recipe.

Since I haven't posted an official Christmas tour for this year, I decided to let you all in on some of what I have been up to over the past couple weeks.

The front porch is themed with a red and black buffalo check.

The entry way is sporting more red and a classic plaid.

And in the living room I went with traditional red and white. A candy cane inspired ribbon I found at Michael's kicked off the entire look, so it went right on the tree! (And on the mirror!)

Fun right???

Gosh you just gotta love Christmas!!!

To get started with the holiday theme I'm going with this week, here's a recent project I shared of a super simple, DIY Glitter Believe sign that was made with NO POWER TOOLS!

I absolutely love this Christmas Fireplace display from Dining Delight! I almost went with a red buffalo check theme for my decor this year, but ended up going the complete opposite direction with white + rose gold, so I'm obsessed with how this one turned out! I think this will be my theme for next year.

How adorable is this Driftwood Christmas Tree from Five Minutes for Mom? I love adding natural elements into decor and can't get enough of the coastal look! It's a bonus that this is a SUPER SIMPLE craft to make!

I find that one of the easiest gifts to buy or make is a selection of hot chocolate! Not everyone likes tea or coffee, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who could turn down a nice cup of hot chocolate! I really want to make some of these Mason Jar Hot Chocolate sets for gift exchanges! Thank you to Walking on Sunshine for sharing.

How cute are these Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Reindeer?! They look so adorable AND delicious! I think they'd also be delicious when made with peanut butter balls for the heads, if you're not a huge fan of marshmallows. Thank you Suburban Simplicity for sharing!

I sense a bit of a food theme (on top of the Christmas theme!) this week - but these boozy holiday truffles from Play Dates to Parties sound delicious. You know how great truffles are to begin with.. and boozy ones?? Sign me up!

How to Create Candlesticks from Old Lamps

This tutorial has lots of photographs to follow as I was cutting metal with a hacksaw and jigsaw then filling holes and finishing with chalk paint. I'm loving how these turned out and hope you will try to make some of your own.

Then I found these whimsical carolers are looking ever festive and giving their thanks at Debbee's Buzz.
Her Christmas Dickens carolers were also out on display and were doing double-duty for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I also had to add these Blushing Bleached Pinecones as Yvonne of Stone Gable has created something after my own heart... I made some bleached pinecones several years ago and these would be fun to remake with their natural gilded tips!
Very ethereal!

This feature I chose because I love a beautifully set table and this traditional fall colored table created by Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home

personifies Thanksgiving to me.

Have you started planning for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas yet? I'm working on a few Christmas projects that need to get finished before I start decorating. Christmas will be here before we know it!

Even though I was smitten with all your creativity last week, here are a few features that caught my eye:

This post on Reasons To Visit Traverse City really caught my eye because I happen to live in Michigan! Yes, it can get quite cold and snowy in the winter, but the rest of the year is gorgeous, as The Kittchen shows you in her blog post. I've actually stayed at the same resort she stayed in and, if time permits, you really want to explore some of the surrounding small ports that are located on Lake Michigan and Little Traverse Bay.

Can you believe these gorgeous flowers came from the grocery store! Amber from Follow The Yellow Brick Home shows how she made these clearance flowers shine in her $1 vintage ironstone pitcher.

Pat, from French Country Style From The Foot Of The Rockies, shares her love of collecting old vintage clocks. You'll want to take a peek at all the gorgeous clocks she's accumulated. I was so drawn to this because Mr. Cottage has a fascination with clocks and they're all over our house and cottage.

Have you ever tried painting any of your cabinets in your house? It's not like painting furniture, because as you paint you think you're never coming to the end of it. It goes on and on and on. Nicki from Sweet Parrish Place shares her white painted cabinets with us. She's still working on the ORC (One Room Challenge), but once it's finished she said she'll be sharing her tutorial on this.

Delightful E Made has shared her recipe for all of us who might want to wow our friends and family with these pumpkin pie tarts for Thanksgiving. Even the whipped cream has something special added to it.

Anita of Cedar Hill Farm House has a wonderful post on French chairs and where to find them. I have several in my own home that I have refinished and never tire of. Such timeless pieces.

The Happy Housie has a tutorial for you

on making an easy DIY acorn and pine cone garland. So many ways to use this in your Fall and Christmas decorating.

As I write this post, the weather outside is cold, with a steady rain...brrrrr. This Bailey's Pumpkin Hot Chocolate drink seems the perfect antidote to chase the chills away. Thank you Living on Cloud Nine for this yummy recipe.

Well the weather here in the northeast is finally feeling like fall. About time right with Halloween only a week away! At last week's party there were some pretty fabulous links shared, here are a few that caught my eye.

First up is a DYI tutorial from the blog Harbour Breeze Home. In this tutorial Rita Joy shares how to make Fixer Upper farmhouse style shelves.

Starfish Cottage captures the next spot with some pretty fall updates in the family room. Kristy does this by adding pops of plum throughout the space.

I love the 'coastal farmhouse' style, which works perfectly in our home near the beautiful Georgian Bay in Ontario. When I'm not making over every room in our house, I absolutely love browsing other blogs for inspiration and new ideas of what I can bring into my own home. This link up is perfect for style inspiration! I am so excited each week to look through all of the projects that get linked up, and I can't wait to share my favorites with you this week.

Here are a few of my favorites from last week:

I love everything about this DIY Farmhouse Console Table Plan with Drawers from Abbot's at Home! The color is beautiful and I can't get enough of the cross detailing! I would love to get into woodworking, but it just seems to intimidating to start using saws - I think I could maybe handle this one without the drawers ;)

I definity want to try making some of these Easy DIY Wool Dryer Balls from Busy Being Jennifer! I have some plastic dryer balls that make a huge difference in how well clothes dry in our ancient dryer, so I'd love to try some wool ones and see how they compare!

How adorable are these Chenille Fabric Pumpkins from Flamingo Toes?? I love that she uses a not-so-typical fall colour of blush pink, as it's one of my favorite colors. I am not a great sewer by any means, but I think I could handle these! And how cute are the spoons for a stem??

Being so close to Halloween, I had to share these adorable Wood Pumpkins from Anika's DIY Life! She made them from different scrap pieces of wood and they turned out so cute! You can make them any color you'd like to fit in with any style of decor, while still having a halloween feel to them.

I love these Budget Living Room Decorating Tips from Suburban Simplicity. We're about to start renovating our basement (it's currently gutted and waiting for the studs to be replaced!) which I know will be costly - so I'll be using these tips when it comes time to decorate the space!

Here are a few of my favorites from last week:

I love how Yvonne from Stone Gable made this Beautiful and Easy Chinoiserie Pumpkin DIY with designer napkins. I happen to already have some designer napkins here at the house. This just makes me want to have a crafting party with my girlfriends so we can make these. You gals know who you are. ;)

Kristy over at the Starfish Cottage shows us How To Create A Beautiful Front Porch For Fall. She has put me in the mood to dress up my porch with some classic fall color. I love everything about the way she's dressed up her porch for the season.

Jennifer over at The Magic Brush shows us An Ombre Painted Pallet Project For Fall. When I saw this I immediately turned to my husband and asked if my pallet collection (collect from building our house) was still out behind the barn. He surely questioned my motives in keeping every single pallet that showed up with building material on them. I assured him that a girl can never have too many pallets. This might be the first pallet project I do from my stash. :)

Jamie over at So Much Better With Age shared this Bat Printable For Halloween (2 Sizes). I love the way she used them to decorate her mantle. Aren't they the coolest "flying" around in the cloches?

Karianne at Thistlewood Farms holds us in great anticipation with her Wait Until You See What I Found At A Yard Sale post! I couldn't wait to see what she had found! And boy-oh-boy did she find some yummy goodness! I love going to yard sales, and vintage markets and finding such treasures. Now go! Go and see what she found!

Last, but certainly not least, Tracey over at The Kitchen Is My Playground shares how to make these Easy Peanut Butter Pumpkins. Aren't they just darling! I think I know several little girls that would just love to help make these treats.

My My How Things Change and our Fall Mantel

Hello all...

I hope your summer was wonderfully relaxing and now you're looking incredibly forward to an amazing autumn! I know it has been quite a long time since I have posted anything new outside of our weekly Share Your Style parties. (Of which I hope you are stopping by to check out every Wednesday evening.) Over the last year things have gotten crazy out of hand busy with my two teens...and as of this August they are both in high school.

(And we all know how fast that will fly by!)

When I started blogging roughly 8 years ago, Michael and Grace looked like this...

Our living room fireplace looked like this...

...and my fall mantel, well it looked like this.

A lot has changed since 2010!

(Michael shot up to pass my almost 5'9" tall Grace)

And as the kids grew up, so did my decorating style.

We painted the living room last September this soft gray color from Benjamin Moore called Stonington Gray.

I wanted to keep the mantel's look simple with some natural texture along with a few pops of orange.

I love the autumn....it is such a beautiful yet nostalgic time of the year. Someday I hope my two will look back fondly and remember these fabulous fall days of their high school years.

I know I do! They were, absolutely without a doubt, the best days of my young life!!

(This was my high school marching band at a football game some 40 years ago. I was a baton twirler. Can you find me in this pic?)

A Great Inspiration For A Fall Mantel

First off, I just want to send my thoughts and prayers to all of you who have been impacted by Florence. As usual, I always have a hard time choosing who should be featured because everyone of you deserve a pat on the back for everything that you linked up.

Here are a few features I chose from last week:

I love how Dining Delight decorated their kitchen sideboard for fall using all the traditional colors of orange, brown, rust and gold. I know many have chosen other colors for fall or have decided to remain neutral, which I love; but this really gets me in the mood for fall.

I fell in love with these washed out stripes from the first time I first saw them on Rain On A Tin Roof. I love how they have a soft look to them and I was really surprised to see how she created this look. You'll want to hop over to her blog and see her tutorial on this.

I really love the simplicity and timeless look on how Sweet Pea decorated her mantel for fall. I love the orange with the blue of her drapes, and everything in between.

I love a great before and after, and this one from Rickety Pickets doesn't disappoint. It's hard to believe this is the same stool she started with. It's amazing how a little paint and fabric can bring new life to old furniture.

There were lots of great recipes this week, but Walking On Sunshine shared an Apple Dump Cake that's not only super easy, but is also delicious. This is the time of year our schedules get so busy, so it's great to have something quick and easy for when we don't have much time.

For some of us Autumn is in the air and these ideas are sure to please. County Road 407 shares several great ideas for using those old tool boxes we run across from time to time. I have mine by the kitchen sink and holds my vitamins, dish washing liquid, hand cream and paper towels.

I can happily say that spring has finally arrived in Michigan and it won't be much longer before Mr. Cottage and I start going to our cottage for the summer. With that being said, I've chosen a few features that embrace summer.

This week's featured links

Rain on a Tin Roof shows us how simple and easy it is to transform plain inexpensive pots into these stunning pots to show off her plants.

Anyone would love to party and celebrate any occasion at this gorgeous outdoor bar! From Playdates To Parties shows us how she created this bar using cinder blocks and a pallet. I think the addition of the red stools with the corrugated metal really looks impressive.

It's strawberry season and I love how easy this strawberry cobbler looks to make by The Kitchen Is My Playground. It's made with only five ingredients and it's the perfect size for a small group of people.

I love this article that County Road 407 wrote on How to love the home you have. We love to drool over all the gorgeous houses we see in magazines and the internet, but many of us will never be able to have houses like these. Cindy shows how we need to embrace and love the homes we currently live in.
