Kai Elter has been appointed as International Business Development Manager covering German speaking territories. 

Jan Kloub joins 21st Century in the role of International Sales Support, providing office and on-site project support.

Both Kai and Jan have strong commercial backgrounds in international sales development.

The 21st Century systems give CrossCountry access to both live view and recorded images in High Definition.   The cameras record constantly, so they also provide images for vegetation surveys, as well as supporting trackside maintenance and monitoring the location of equipment. 21st Century’s contract includes the supply of maintenance services until March 2016.  

CrossCountry Trains operates the most extensive train network in the UK.  Stretching from Aberdeen to Penzance and from Stansted to Cardiff, it covers around 1,500 miles and calls at over 100 stations.

In his speech to the house, Osborne claimed that this would support jobs and growth: “"Many observers of the British tax system complain that it has long biased debt financing over equity investment. So today I am abolishing altogether stamp duty on shares traded on growth markets such as AIM.

"In parts of Europe they're introducing a financial transaction tax. Here in Britain we're getting rid of one. From April next year this will directly benefit hundreds of medium-sized UK firms, lowering their cost of capital and supporting jobs and growth across the UK."

Stamp duty is charged at 0.5% of the value of the transaction. While this does not directly affect the finances of the listed company, it is suggested that removing the tax will give investors confidence and make markets more widely used.

Lenka Hornickova is an international business development and marketing professional who speaks English, German, Spanish and Czech.  She has a background in the international motor industry and joins 21^st Century from Swiss-based AutoGlobalTrade where she was International Business Development Manager (Western and Eastern Europe, Central and South America, Caribbean).

Geraldine Esquerre also has a strong international sales and marketing background.  She speaks French, English and German and brings to her new role with 21^st Century several years of experience in digital media and luxury brand management, with a solid background across full product management, marketing and business development.

In March this year, 21st Century was awarded a £3.3m contract to supply, install and maintain its passenger counting technology together with on-board surveillance to a fleet of buses, trains and trams operated by Arriva in Stockholm.

21^st Century, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of mobile CCTV systems, has recently launched Archive Management System (AMS), a complete wireless CCTV management solution for monitoring, downloading and archiving mobile CCTV footage.  AMS also provides full database functionality which allows users to quickly search for specific footage even if the relevant bus is not in the depot.

One key advantage to AMS is that all connected CCTV systems automatically update the central server with details of the footage that is available. This enables downloaders to know whether footage is available before trying to download it. The system can also automatically delete footage after a set period of time, such as when required by law.

Once a request for a wireless download is made the progress is visible to the downloader and also alerts them when it is complete.  Requests can be made for multiple downloads at the same time.

The high quality images will also be used to support any internal, police or insurance investigations following road traffic accidents involving Service vehicles.  Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will use the footage to assist in the management of occupational road risk and support investigations of any complaints about driving standards.

The on-board CCTV will also assist with driver training and may deter attacks on Service personnel with the footage used as evidence to support any subsequent police investigations.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service specified that the cameras continue recording automatically while attending incidents, so that the footage can be used in operational debriefs, facilitated learning from incidents and even the supporting of investigations into the cause and development of fires.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and 21^st Century have worked very closely together to coordinate installation of the vehicles whilst avoiding disruption to vehicle availability which clearly is a priority in case of emergencies.  The Fire Service arranged road shows to explain to employees the reasons for the installation of the CCTV equipment and the management of road risk to maximise the benefits the systems provide.

Robert Sawyer was awarded ‘Best CCTV Analyst’. All Arriva buses operating in the UK are fitted with 21st Century CCTV systems and the Analysts utilise a remote monitoring solution provided by 21^st Century.

The Awards were held by the Metropolitan Police and Transport For London at New Scotland Yard earlier this month.  The Awards were presented by Commander Simon Foy QPM and Commander Adrian Hanstock from the Metropolitan Police and Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Transport For London.

Arriva is part of Deutsche Bahn AG, a leading European passenger transport group delivering 4.2 billion passenger journeys a year.  21^st Century has a well established relationship with Arriva which continues to offer new opportunities.  As previously announced, on 12 March 2012 21^st Century was awarded a £3.3m contract by Arriva in Sweden to install and maintain on board CCTV within a multi-modal transport system and on 14 May 2012 the Company was awarded a contract worth in excess of £1m by Arriva’s CrossCountry trains franchise operator to install and maintain in cab forward facing cameras.

With a fleet of over 6,000 buses, Arriva UK Bus is one of the UK’s largest bus operators operating about 15 per cent of the regional bus market and almost 20 per cent of London services.  For the financial year ended 31 December 2011 the Company’s sales to Arriva UK Bus were £2.9m. Under the terms of the new contract announced today, the Company has entered into an initial two year agreement to supply and maintain the on bus CCTV and EcoManager systems as Preferred Supplier for Arriva in the UK, thereafter the contact may be terminated by either party giving six months’ notice.

Commenting on the contract win 21^st Century’s Chief Executive, Nick Grimond, said: “To have our preferred supplier status confirmed with another of the UK’s largest bus operators underpins our position as the leading supplier of on vehicle CCTV.

“21^st Century is currently preferred supplier of on vehicle CCTV to three of the five top bus operators in the UK and we are actively looking to enhance revenues of both our CCTV and EcoManager products by developing these existing relationships and seeking out new opportunities internationally.”

The robbery took place on a bus in North Finchley.  The suspect, Liam Patrick Dunleavy aged 26, and an accomplice, who has not been identified, boarded the bus and intimidated and robbed a 40-year-old man who told police that he “feared for his life” during the robbery and has been too scared to use public transport since.

The victim was threatened after he stepped over the Dunleavy’s legs to find a seat.  Minutes later the other man moved and sat next to the victim, blocking his exit from the bus, pushed him hard against the window and demanded money.

After being told he would be stabbed, the victim handed the man £5 from his wallet and pleaded with the suspects when demands were made for jewellery.  The victim told police that Dunleavy said, “Leave it man. We’re going to get nicked for robbery again.” Both left the bus in Russell Lane.

Dunleavy was identified by police on the bus CCTV and arrested; he was subsequently picked out by the victim on an ID parade.

Dunleavy admitted to police that he was the person on the bus, but said he could not remember much as he was drunk at the time. He was charged with robbery and found guilty in trial at Wood Green Crown Court.  Dunleavy's accomplice has not been found.

Over the last two years 21^st Century has been involved with the development of, and conformance to operating parameters that cover digital video recorders, cameras, camera layouts, monitors and installation to ensure all equipment and processes comply with the Attachment, and as part of this work, 21st Century systems have integrated LAN and 3G interfaces, high quality recorded video, a minimum of 16 camera inputs and an available interface to TfL’s iBus system.

In 2008, 21^st Century delivered a control-room video interface allowing TfL to connect live to see on-bus CCTV and now all cctv systems installed on newly contracted buses must be capable of supporting live CCTV which may be introduced sometime in the future. Operational requirements of Attachment 14 also include performance monitoring and specifying that the system must be operational 98% of the time.

21^st Century, the supplier and installation service provider of public transport CCTV and vehicle monitoring systems, today announces that it has been awarded a contract, potentially worth in excess of £1m by XC Trains Limited, which operates Arriva UK’s CrossCountry franchise (“the Franchise”) to supply forward facing CCTV cameras for deployment in the 182 drivers cabs in its fleet of trains operating on the CrossCountry network.

The CCTV camera equipment, with a sales value of £0.8m, will be delivered in the current year and thereafter Arriva have the option to take up on-going on-site warranty and maintenance.  If this option is taken up to the end of the Franchise, which is expected to run to March 2016, this revenue stream could add over £0.2m to the contract value.

21^st Century, the supplier and installation service provider of public transport CCTV and vehicle monitoring systems, today announces that it has been awarded a contract, totalling £3.3m, by Arriva in Sweden to supply on board CCTV, passenger counting systems, depot infrastructure, related maintenance and software hosting for a substantial part of a fleet of public transport vehicles operated by Arriva in Stockholm.

£2.7m of the contract value will be delivered in the current year and thereafter Arriva have contracted for one year’s maintenance and five years’ software hosting. The Company is optimistic that there is further scope for collaboration within this multi-modal (bus, tram and train) transport system.

At Busworld, 21^st Century will also be demonstrating its range of on-bus, train or tram Automatic Passenger Counting solutions aimed at providing operators or authorities with highly accurate passenger volumes at each bus stop and for every door configuration.  The information is transferred automatically to a secure website for reporting.  The company’s extensive range of pre-programmed reports allows users to view summarised data from all buses in the fleet and analyse it by Service, Bus Stop, Date/Time and compare results to timetables and on-board ticket validators.  Every report delivers the necessary level of on-board accuracy required in order to assist in the protection and development of passenger revenues.

It was alleged that a gang set up a crash between the Arriva bus and a people carrier in order to claim thousands of pounds in insurance payments.  Eight bus passengers were injured in the crash.

A third gang member has now been jailed for 18 months, following the conviction earlier this year of his two associates.

Earlier this year the judge jailed the bus driver, Philip Leedham of Damson Road, Childwall, Merseyside, for two years and a second man was jailed for 18 months for his part in the scam. 

At first it was thought that the crash was genuine, until officials studied the CCTV evidence.  On-board footage showed the people carrier travelling very close to the bus then braking for no apparent reason causing the bus to ‘shunt’ into its rear.

Images from 21^st Century’s CCTV systems have been praised in the past by police forces for their extremely high quality and have assisted in numerous cases of criminal behaviour, violence and fraud.

Following the conviction, Phil Stone Regional Managing Director for Arriva North West commented:  “For a bus driver to put passengers and other road users at risk as part of a criminal activity is a complete disgrace.  He’s a discredit to all the many dedicated bus drivers who take their responsibilities seriously.  We are happy to see convictions in this case and will work with the police using the CCTV on our buses and other investigative techniques to pursue anyone who attempts to defraud us.”

Had Arriva lost the case, the company estimates that it would have cost them in excess of £100,000.

Arriva Wirral has won the Environmental Award at the annual Wirral Investment Network (WiN) Awards because of the environmental benefits seen by the company since the installation of EcoManager to the company’s fleet of buses.

The judges awarded the annual prize because of the company’s commitment to protecting the environment through the introduction of EcoManager. Special focus was placed on the innovative approach to reducing emissions and saving fuel.

Arriva demonstrated to the judges that by utilising EcoManager’s driver’s aid, drivers could adjust their driving techniques to improve fuel economy and emissions. The objective of the scheme is to improve fuel efficiencies by 4% or more, to embrace greener driving practices through awareness, and to reduce the carbon footprint.

The EcoManager system has also been instrumental in another set of awards for Arriva.  Data from the system was used to identify five Arriva drivers who have adopted the most economic, smooth and safest driving style over the last twelve months.  They were presented with ECO Driver of the Year Awards at Arriva’s annual Make A Difference (MAD) Awards, sponsored by 21^st Century.

EcoManager has been in use on Arriva buses for several years and has helped cut fuel consumption by 12%.  Passengers have also reported improved journey experiences, and even accident rates have been reduced.

The companies are already working in partnership on several large projects, including pilots for the fuel saving and driver performance system EcoManager.

21^st Century now has operations in eight European countries and enhanced its focus on Europe with a successful representation at Busworld.  The international team saw manufacturers, suppliers, distribution partners and potential new customers from 32 countries at the seven day show which was the company’s seventh international exhibition in the last two years.

In the coalition Government’s initial spending review on 18^th October 2010, it was announced that the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) would be cut by 20% in the year 2012-2013. The advance warning was designed to give operators time to adjust and find ways to counteract the cuts.

BSOG is paid by the Department for Transport to reimburse operators for some of the excise duty paid on fuel used on eligible local bus routes.  BSOG was designed to ensure that less profitable routes were kept operating for the benefit of users.

The current amount of duty paid per litre of diesel is approximately 57p, with BSOG reimbursing 43.21p per litre.  The rebates for biofuels (biodiesel and bioethanol) were higher in previous years, but have already been cut to the same rate as diesel this year. Further discounts are available, for example an increase of 3% is awarded to bus operators that can demonstrate fuel savings of 6%.

There are also incentives for operators using ITSO smartcard systems, who receive an 8% increase in BSOG and those operators that fit AVL receive a 2% increase.  However, neither of these incentives can be claimed for routes secured by Transport for London.

The incentives are cumulative, so if an operator adopts all of these incentives they can increase their basic BSOG rate by 13%.

Finally, operators of low carbon emission buses, ie those that are able to achieve a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to an average Euro 3 diesel bus, are eligible for an additional BSOG payment of 6 pence per kilometre.

What Can You Do?

21^st Century Technology, the company behind the award winning fuel saving device EcoManager, says that bus operators can act now to off-set the rise in fuel costs when the government cuts BSOG next year.

The impact on bus operators is significant.  The cut of 20% will increase fuel costs by over 8.6p per litre.  Just one bus doing 50,000 miles a year (at 8.5 mpg) could end up costing an operator over £2,300 a year more after the cuts.  Multiplied across a fleet of buses, the increase in fuel bills is enormous.

Bus operators are being advised to seek ways to save fuel, as the fuel efficiency bonus of 3% higher BSOG for buses that save 6% on fuel is being maintained.

“We have seen a massive rise in enquiries since the announcement on BSOG and this continues as we start to prove the savings are real” says Paul Rogers, Sales and Marketing Director at 21^st Century. “More and more companies realise that EcoManager shows their drivers how to be more efficient and with more than 6,000 buses already fitted across Europe we have proven savings of over 12%, which goes some way towards offsetting the impact of BSOG.”

Case 1

A driver from Battersea was threatened with a hammer by the driver of a van. Recorded video from externally and internally located cameras showed the man driving away from the bus after an incident and waiting at a stop farther along the route.

Further images then record the man ambushing the driver and threatening him with a hammer. The footage was handed over to the Met Police Workplace Violence Unit and the man was traced through a combination of personal and vehicle identification.

The man pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment.

Case 2

The driver of another London Bus was spat at, had a drink can thrown at him and was punched on the head by an assailant. He was identified using CCTV images and DNA evidence from the spit sample.

The man had entered the UK illegally and it was found that he had a history of offending, including an assault on a Stamford Hill bus driver.

He is now serving a nine-month prison sentence after he pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Magistrates’ Court in January to charges of actual bodily harm and theft – the latter arising from a separate incident involving picking someone’s pocket at a bus stop.

Case 3

Two teenagers are awaiting sentence following guilty pleas arising from an incident in May last year in which an Edmonton driver was threatened with a knife.

The incident happened on a bus in North West London when one of the youths pulled a knife and held it to the driver’s chest. He pleaded guilty to affray. The second youth pleaded guilty to causing fear and provoking violence.

Arriva London CCTV Support Analyst Robert Sawyer said: “In all three cases CCTV was crucial in identifying the culprits.”

Arriva North West and Merseytravel have won the Alexander Dennis Innovation Award for 21^st Century's fuel saving system, EcoManager, at the UK Bus Awards. EcoManager was developed by 21^st Century to allow bus operators to save fuel and reduce carbon emission whilst also giving passengers a better journey experience.

Now, over three years on, EcoManager is installed widely throughout Arriva in the UK and Europe, and their thousands of drivers have achieved a significant reduction in incidents and savings in fuel and CO2 emissions, with fuel savings in excess of 12% reported at some locations. 

EcoManager assists drivers in adopting a more economic, smoother and safer driving style by highlighting when braking, accelerating and cornering is done correctly or otherwise through an in-cab driver’s aid.  The driver’s aid lights a series of red, amber and green LEDs on a real-time display according to how efficiently the bus is being driven.  Online management reporting software shows which drivers on which routes are driving efficiently and safely and highlights any areas where they may benefit from additional instruction.

The fuel savings made so far have also equated to a significant saving on CO2.  Arriva North West region, which was the first to install EcoManager, has saved 7,000 tons of carbon a year.  Arriva’s carbon reduction has been recognised by the Carbon Trust which awarded the company the Carbon Trust Standard.  This Standard identifies organisations that have genuinely acted on climate change and have committed to continuing emission reduction.

The Arriva Runcorn depot was the first to trial EcoManager in 2007.  When it was rolled out across the fleet, drivers were involved from the start and were shown an information video demonstrating the impact of their actions on CO2 emissions, safety and passenger comfort.  As a result of the awareness campaign and focus given to EcoManager during its launch, fuel savings at this depot averaged an impressive 15% and accidents reduced by 64%, highlighting the importance of the launch process in introducing EcoManager.

EcoManager proved to be such a success in Runcorn that Arriva made the decision to roll it out across its UK bus fleet and is now introducing it in some of its mainland European operations. EcoManager’s exclusive and simple driver’s aid transcends language barriers and the simple red, amber and green LEDs make EcoManager accessible for drivers in any country.

EcoManager’s management reporting system uses simple graphics and easy to read layouts to allow bus operators to report on safety and efficiency throughout their fleets and in doing so they can manage risk and costs by identifying areas for improvement.  Reports show how well drivers are performing against their colleagues ensuring sustained focus on safety and efficiency.

If some drivers are found to be performing below average, then a training program using the EcoManager software can be used. This best practice guide to improving driving standards using EcoManager is formed of several phases which are specially designed to improve overall performance and increase the savings made using EcoManager.

This type of initiative ensures that the initial savings are sustained beyond the launch period.  However, bosses at Arriva have found further benefits of changing driver behaviour using EcoManager.  There is evidence to suggest that in the longer term wear and tear on engines and gear boxes will be reduced.  Also, there has been a reduction in the amount of downtime due to repairs to bodywork following accidents.

The reduction in accidents has been significant, and has improved driver and passenger safety.  Figures from Arriva show that in the first year that EcoManager was installed in one depot there was a reduction in the number of all types of incidents of over 64%.  This improvement continued in the second year with a further reduction of 31.8% and in particular passenger falls were reduced by 60%.

At other depots the downwards trend in accident statistics continued following EcoManager installation and training, with many also achieving a significant reduction in incidents. 

Arriva conducts an annual, independent survey of passengers to find out how they rate the bus service.  Passengers reported a recognised improvement in their perception of ’smoothness and freedom from jolting’ after EcoManager was installed (Mori Poll data).

Arriva has also been able to use the detailed fleet management reports generated by EcoManager to improve vehicle deployment.  By comparing different vehicles on the same route, different driving styles in the same vehicle and a particular vehicle type’s performance on different routes, Arriva is able to allocate the most efficient vehicle to each route.

Another significant benefit to emerge from the promotion of eco driving has been the effect on bus drivers’ health and wellbeing.  Drivers have commented how learning the eco style of driving has benefited them personally by reducing levels of fatigue, anxiety and stress.

Despite being taught how to drive using anticipation and planning techniques, bad habits develop and attitudes to the job change. A combination of these factors can cause strain both physically and mentally by drivers putting themselves under increased pressure. The affects of these personal changes result in drivers functioning on adrenaline, becoming agitated and more fatigued than is necessary.  At the end of a shift drivers who have worked with increased levels of adrenaline are in a higher vigilant, agitated state and find it harder to relax and unwind.  Exposed to this each day over many years can lead to longer term health problems.

A driver commented: ”Eco is the best thing that could have happened to me, my wife thinks I am a different man.”  When questioned, the driver explained how he was happier in his job because he did not feel under pressure anymore. He had finally realised after fifteen years bus driving, that trying to driver faster did not make him reach the destination any quicker.

21^st Century announced in February that it had signed its largest export deal to date to supply mobile CCTV systems to Keolis Sverige AB which operates under the ‘Busslink’ trading name in Stockholm.  The new office will enable 21^st Century to facilitate the supply and installation, and manage the depot infrastructure and ongoing maintenance of CCTV for 1,457 Busslink vehicles, which are all wirelessly linked to depots throughout the network.

In the first case, a female motorist had claimed that an Arriva bus had collided with her car while overtaking another vehicle in four lanes of traffic.  The Arriva driver claimed that the motorist had actually cut a corner and crossed into the lane the bus was travelling in. 

The CCTV footage supported the driver’s version of events and showed that it was the motorist who collided with the bus while overtaking it.  The motorist was claiming £5,000 for a permanent neck injury plus over £3,000 for repairs and car hire costs.  On the basis of the proof provided by the CCTV footage, this claim was dismissed and costs totalling £4,650 were awarded to Arriva.

The second case involved a collision on a roundabout.  A female motorist had claimed that the Arriva bus had encroached into her lane, whereby she halted her vehicle but the bus continued and collided with her.  The CCTV footage showed that the bus had actually entered the roundabout first and was in the correct lane for the intended exit. 

The judge agreed that under the Highway Code the claimant should have given the bus priority and not move into a position to cause problems.  He stated that the claimant made an incorrect decision and was the author of her own misfortune.  The claim of nearly £6,000 in damages was dismissed and Arriva was awarded costs totalling over £2,865.

Arriva North West and Merseytravel have won the Alexander Dennis Innovation Award for 21^st Century’s fuel saving system, EcoManager, at the UK Bus Awards. EcoManager was developed by 21^st Century to allow bus operators to save fuel and reduce carbon emission whilst also giving passengers a better journey experience.

The annual UK Bus Industry Awards took place this year at London’s prestigious Park Lane Hilton and was attended by over 650 industry representatives. In all there were 20 awards, covering all aspects of planning, delivering, marketing and operating bus services. 

The Innovation Award recognises and rewards new thinking in the industry – amongst operators, authorities and suppliers. It focuses especially on products which can reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency or make bus travel more attractive.

Arriva’s entry for EcoManager demonstrated to the judges that it contributed most to the improvement of the bus product.

EcoManager is a ‘black-box’ unit fitted to the bus to monitor driving styles and measure fuel consumption. The unit provides detailed feedback to drivers after each shift to allow them to identify how they might moderate their driving style to save fuel and ranks their performance against their colleagues. Drivers are identified and linked to a particular route and shift without the need for a separate log in. The system includes an in-cab red, amber green display to alert drivers if they are driving outside of set “eco-friendly” parameters. 

The implementation of EcoManager saw fuel economy improvements of up to 12 per cent, three times the target set at the beginning of the trial. Over the trial period from May 2007 to October 2008 the system saved 100,669 litres of fuel and an estimated 263 tonnes of CO2.

In addition to the 12% fuel savings and associated carbon reduction, EcoManager also lowers maintenance costs and accidents and improves passenger comfort.

Following the trials the technology and training was rolled out across Arriva’s UK regional bus businesses with all new buses featuring EcoManager and the system being retrofitted to existing vehicles.

Ecomanager est une «unité de boîte noire" installé sur le bus de surveiller styles de conduite et de mesure de la consommation de carburant. L'unité fournit des informations détaillées au conducteur après chaque quart de travail pour leur permettre d'identifier comment ils pourraient modérer leur style de conduite pour économiser du carburant et se classe leur rendement par rapport à leurs collègues. Les conducteurs sont identifiés et associés à un itinéraire particulier et le déplacement sans avoir besoin d'un registre distinct po Le système comprend un rouge dans la cabine, de l'ambre écran vert pour alerter les conducteurs si elles sont la conduite en dehors du jeu "eco-friendly" paramètres.

La mise en œuvre des améliorations Ecomanager vu l'économie de carburant pouvant aller jusqu'à 12 pour cent, soit trois fois l'objectif fixé au début du procès. Au cours de la période d'essai de mai 2007 à Octobre 2008, le système enregistré 100 669 litres de carburant et d'une estime que 263 tonnes de CO2.

En plus des économies de carburant de 12% et associée à une réduction de carbone, Ecomanager réduit également les coûts d'entretien et les accidents et améliore le confort des passagers.

Après les essais de la technologie et la formation a été étendu à l'ensemble des entreprises du Royaume-Uni de bus Arriva régional avec tous les nouveaux autobus comportant Ecomanager et le système d'être rénovées pour les véhicules existants.

Exclusive to 21st Century, EcoManager combines fuel saving technology with a real time drivers LED providing instant efficiency feedback with fully automated reporting by driver, displayed to managers in an easy to use traffic light reporting system with the most and least efficient drivers displayed in green and red respectively.

Trials of fuel saving technologies across Europe have shown that companies could reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% per annum. Applying even a modest 10% fuel saving on average, could save bus and coach operators a significant amount in addition to reducing their carbon footprint.

Furthermore, the reduction in fuel consumption has a direct impact on the fleet’s carbon footprint. For every litre of diesel saved, the environment is spared 2.75 kg of carbon.

EcoManager works by monitoring and reporting on drivers’ habits and highlighting areas where fuel is being wasted and training may be required. EcoManager also provides drivers with a live LED display highlighting their driving style, which changes from green to amber to red according to their efficiency.

As well as the fuel savings, EcoManager improves driver and passenger safety because it encourages drivers to be more aware of their driving habits. Better driving reduces excessive wear and tear – thereby also reducing maintenance costs.

EcoManager uses data such as distance travelled, MPG and revs per minute. This data can be combined with data from the ticket machine such as driver id, route, stage and fare class. All vehicle data is then displayed in the management reports.

Reports are automatically transferred to the depot through EcoManager and the 21st Century ProGuard CCTV system, providing a fully automatic daily report on driver efficiency. Reports can be used to advise drivers on how to drive on the most efficient ways and re-train drivers to more economic methods.

The in-cab LED provides instant and continuous feedback to the driver based on the fuelling condition, RPM and pedal position. This has been proven in tests to be the most effective way to instantly correct driver behaviour and immediately increase fuel efficiency and reduce costs.
