Stop in their Lombard location (next to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Butterfield) and try one of their great burgers. The chef has created a special seasonal bison burger topped with butternut squash and a carrot/zucchini slaw. Order one October 25th – October 30th and proceeds for the $10 burger go to the DMG Charitable Fund.

Urology Department Sponsors the Men and Cancer Breakfast at the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center

On Saturday, October 15th staff from the Department of Urology sponsored the Men and Cancer Breakfast at the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center which is one of the initiatives of the DMG Charitable Fund. Volunteers graciously prepared egg casseroles; donated fruit, pastries, and juice for the breakfast; and got up early on Saturday to help set up, serve, and clean up.

LivingWell is a non-profit organization that provides free counseling and other support services to cancer patients and their families. Their main location is in Geneva, but they also counsel patients and family members at DMG’s Cancer Resource Center at our Ogden site. Once a month, men who have had cancer or who have helped a loved one live with cancer come together at breakfast to talk with each other, share stories and lend support.

The Department of Urology’s volunteerism was greatly appreciated by the men and the LivingWell staff.

The Executive Director, Nancy Vance, wrote “Please thank your wonderful team for doing such a great job at our Men and Cancer Breakfast last Saturday. Our participants were grateful for the delicious food and the warm and friendly company. Our staff and volunteers were also very grateful for the help!”

Jill Smallwood, a Program Director at LivingWell wrote “Just want to thank you and your DMG team for your help at the men’s breakfast this weekend. We got rave reviews on the food and the wonderful helpers from DMG!”

DuPage Medical Group and Rush University Medical Center Collaborate for Cancer Care

DuPage Medical Group (DMG) has signed an affiliation agreement with Rush University Medical Center to bring state-of-the-art cancer care to the western suburbs. A three story, 95,000 square foot medical office consisting of two wings is being constructed in Lisle, IL; it will be owned by DMG. One wing will be dedicated to the outpatient diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The other wing will be comprised of primary care, specialty, and advanced diagnostic services. This new facility will be located at 430 Warrenville Road and be visible from the I-88 tollway.

Cancer care delivered at this facility will feature an integrated approach that is centered on the patient. Continuing with DMG’s initiatives to provide our patients with highest quality medical services, we will offer Clinical Care Teams that will provide personalized and coordinated care to produce the best patient outcomes. A key member of the cancer care team, the Patient Navigator, will provide support and guidance for patients at every step on their road to recovery.

This is an exciting opportunity for all of our patients. We will keep you updated as construction nears completion in late 2012.

Dr. Nikoleit Appointed Vice Chairman of the Governance Board at Shriners Hospital for Children

DuPage Medical Group physician James Nikoleit, M.D. was recently appointed Vice Chairman of the Governance Board at Shriners Hospital for Children, a charitable organization taking patients regardless of their ability to pay. Along with providing medical care, the hospital’s mission is to research medical conditions and to educate medical professionals. As the world’s largest specialty hospital system and known as the “World’s Greatest Philanthropy,” Shriners Hospital for Children has no requirement for religion, race, or relation to a Shriner.

Dr. Nikoleit also voluntarily serves as Chairman of the Performance Committee, Vice Chairman of the Development Committee, Vice Chairman of the Admissions Committee, and Member of the Revenue Cycle Committee at the hospital. He attends monthly meetings to help make decisions necessary to run Shriners Hospital for Children.

The DuPage Medical Group Charitable Fund is proud to be a sponsor of the first “Get in the Action” Party (www.actionforhealthykids.org/party), an event co-hosted by Action for Healthy Kids and the Forward Initiative. These organizations are dedicated to working in the community to promote healthy eating, encourage exercise and are engaged in many other activities designed to address the issue of childhood obesity in DuPage County. Mary Goldsher, COO, Primary Care, is one of the event Co-Chairs and Dr. David Dungan serves as a member of the Host Committee.
This event will help support healthy changes in our community, creating opportunities for kids to eat healthy food and be physically active every day. Chinese Physicians Visit DuPage Medical Group

Four physicians from Beijing, China, visited with DuPage Medical Group’s (DMG) Executive Board and toured our Glen Ellyn facility recently. The Chinese physicians are part of a team of 16 government officials that were selected to participate in a training program in Chicago in concert with the Beijing municipal Government to improve public administration and public services in Beijing. Their three month training comprised of English language training; lectures and presentations; and various visits to government and non-government organizations, DMG included.

The physicians are:

Jianzin Wu (Alex), Director of Biochemistry Lab of Capital Institute of Pediatrics, Beijing Municipal Health Bureau; Xingshan Zhao (John), Director of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital; Jiandong Wang (Peter), Director of Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital; and Xuehu Xu (Tiger), Vice-President of The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

They met with DMG’s Michael Kasper, CEO; Dennis Fine, COO; Dr. Paul Merrick, DMG President; Dr. Brian O’Leary, DMG Vice-President; and Dr. John Porcelli, DMG Treasurer. Discussions included the role of government in health care in the U.S. and in China; improving patient experience by becoming better care managers as physicians; cost of health care; competition with other organizations; technology and obtaining the latest equipment; overall structure and benefits of DMG as a physician group; and looking forward and anticipating how to continue to deliver excellent care to patients.

The visiting physicians also toured the DMG Glen Ellyn facility, interacting with other DMG physicians: Dr. Eva Wyrwa; Dr. Evan Ellis; and Dr. Richard Rosseau and viewing how our physician offices are set up to provide quality care to our patients. The Chinese physicians were impressed with the level of technology and services we offered outside of a hospital setting. They realized that providing high-level care to our patients within our offices keeps overall health care costs low.

The physicians will return to China on September 15 where they hope to apply what they have learned during their three-month visit to the Chicago-land area. See photos of their visit to DMG below.
