The icon or logo was initially <a title="branding-firefox" href="http://hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/branding-firefox" target="_blank">designed and developed by Jon Hicks back in 2004</a>.   Now it is seven years later and the wonderful logo that Mr. Hicks designed no longer seems relevant to the visual identity Mozilla has been creating with the <a title="Delicious Design League" href="http://deliciousdesignleague.com/portfolio/?index=5#5" target="_blank">Delicious Design League</a>.</p> <p>This is where I come in, I decided to take it upon myself to redevelop the Firefox logo, in a more appropriate Brand specific manner.  Below you can see the final comp I came up with and what it would appear like in context.  Like Mr. Hicks I went through hundreds of pen and pencil sketches before arriving where I did. </p> <p><img height="350" width="350" alt="Firefox Icon" src="http://twenty3x.com/firefox/ff-icon.png" align="middle"/></p> <p><a href="http://twenty3x.com/firefox/browser.jpg" target="_blank">View In Context</a></p> <p><a href="http://twenty3x.com/firefox/ff-icon.zip" target="_blank">Firefox Mac Icon</a></p> <p><a href="http://twenty3x.com/firefox/firefox-icon.zip" target="_blank">Download EPS File</a></p> <p>If Mozilla by some chance ever happens to see this post I am releasing this file under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License v3.0 or any later version. It was hand filed and hand sanded. Hammer marks were left on the blade to leave a rustic feel.  I used a Japanese technique to harden the blade to create a hard edge and soft spine, known as the Hamon.</p> <p>I am waiting to sharpen the blade, but it is more ornamental than anything.
