John Szabo lies about book "bannings", then supports "bannings" (librarian, LAPL)

John Szabo of the Los Angeles Public Library is lying about books being banned, and then ironically supports what he calls banning.

Confused? Let me explain.

Szabo tweeted this from the LAPL account [1]:

Then, he tweeted this [2]:

The Los Angeles Public Library believes every individual has the right to #ReadFreely. We are proud to provide access to a selection of the most challenged books reported to the @ALALibrary available to everyone in the U.S. ages 13+ until the end of 2023

No one is trying to "ban" books. The controversy is just about trying to keep young kids from reading explicit material.

And, ironically, that's exactly what Szabo is doing: he's restricting access to those older than 13. The only difference between him and others is the ages.

Szabo thinks 13-year-olds should see explicit material like 'Gender Queer' (do an image search to see how explicit that is). Parents groups think the limit might be 13, 14, 15, whatever. That's just what this is about: how old the kids have to be.

George Gascon, James Queally deceive about mean tweets

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon has removed the official account for the DA's office from Twitter, using mean tweets as a pretext. The real reason he's shutting it down is because he can't deal with constant criticism from the residents of the County who are tired of his very pro-criminal policies.

And, James Queally of the Los Angeles Times is helping run cover for Gascon, deceiving about the tweets in question. From "Los Angeles County D.A.'s office quits Twitter amid flood of anti-LGBTQ+ comments" [1]:

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said this week it would no longer post to Twitter after website moderators ignored requests to delete a torrent of bigoted and hateful comments left under a post about employees attending the West Hollywood Pride parade.

The office's account tweeted a picture of about two dozen employees holding gay pride flags after they marched in the annual parade Sunday. Both Joseph Iniguez [2], George Gascón's chief of staff who is gay, and director of communications Tiffiny Blacknell, were shown in the image.

Among the 90 replies to the tweet were those calling the employees photographed "pedophiles" or "groomers," as well as grotesque images of deformed male genitalia and, in one case, a swastika.

Blacknell said the office reported a number of the hateful comments to Twitter but received no response.

"The Pride Parade post was met with a barrage of vicious and offensive comments that left us deeply troubled. The comments ranged from homophobic and transphobic slurs to sexually explicit and graphic images, and even after reporting them to Twitter, they remained visible on our account for more than 24 hours," she said in a statement to The Times. "The district attorney's office will not be complicit and utilize a platform that promotes such hateful rhetoric."

While the account @LADAOffice no longer exists, the individual tweet pages still do. The tweets in question are on twitter -dot- com/LADAOffice/status/1665505500094689283 and video of that page is embedded below [3].

As you can see, the "deformed" image is of faces, not genitals; Queally needs an anatomy lesson. While he's at it, he should look in any medical textbook to see worse. Also, the impacts of sexually-transmitted disease have been shown in countless works of art going back millennia [4]. As for the swastika, Queally is deceiving about that too: he wants you to think it was from someone who's pro-Nazi when it was from someone accusing some gay activists of being like the Nazis. You can disagree with how that point is made, but the fact is that a lot of SJWs and gay activists are extreme authoritarians, keen to silence anyone who disagrees with them. Few if any of the tweets are actually "anti-LGBTQ+", they just object to its negative aspects.

The wider issues include the fact that Gascon is reviled by large swaths of Los Angeles County (except by career criminals and the L.A. Times, they think he's great). And, unlike Hollywood actress Emma Stone and other celebrities, he can't deal with a few mean tweets. Gascon's office deals with some of the worst criminals around but he's completely flabbergasted by critics suggesting he resign.

Twitter tries to censor a critic of Elon Musk's censorship: me

With a few high-profile exceptions, censorship on Twitter has stayed the same or even gotten worse since Elon Musk took over. Yes, he's restored a few accounts that had been banned - most notably Donald Trump - but he's continued the same heavy censorship of their non-famous users that had been in place for years.

Before Musk took over, Twitter was censoring millions of people each day. After he took over, they've continued that and in the same ways as before: through "shadow ordering", by keeping accounts out of search results, out of hashtag pages, out of recommendations, and so on.

For an example of how little has changed, in 2019, Twitter was censoring about 40% of the replies to Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran. In mid-February of 2023, Twitter was censoring about 50% of the replies to Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran. Musk is also heavily censoring replies to Chinese government officials, Democratic and Republican officials in the USA, and even Sesame Street and Major League Pickleball. Musk's Twitter has gone even further with an account I was using in part to criticize his censorship. I started that account - @UpWithLiberty - in 2014 as a satire [1]. I tweeted a few times, and then forgot about it. Then, due to censorship of other accounts, I used it for a few weeks in February 2023 and around the 26th of that month it was completely censored: tweets to that account only get 1 view (i.e., mine), and none of my recent replies are shown anywhere (I sampled the last 93 replies). Replies that got likes and responses, all gone. A couple people asked me questions, but I can't reply to them. Not only that, the account is completely out of search results using the Twitter API [2]. The account has been unpersoned by Twitter.

I realize there are many authoritarians who'll reflexively take Twitter's side, thinking I did something wrong (see below for possible "sins"). Do they also support the shadow banning part of things? I can still tweet and when I reply to someone Twitter increases the reply count and shows a 'tweet sent' popup message. Yet, no one else sees those tweets and my replies appear nowhere. Twitter is trying to trick me into thinking otherwise. And, Elon Musk is doing something similar millions of times each day: if you reply to someone Twitter will always show your reply at the top of the list, even if no one ever sees it or they have to scroll 20 pages to see it. If you're a pro-censorship authoritarian, do you support Elon Musk engaging in deception on such a wide scale?

I'll be sending this post to Twitter, asking for an explanation. I'll almost certainly only get a form response, but we can speculate why that account was unpersoned:

Is it because I changed the name of the account to Elon Musk is "Mr. Censorship" and the bio to "Censorship has gotten *worse* after Musk took over. He's just changed things for a small number of blue checks. (This acct wasn't censored, now it is)"? No one could credibly claim that I'm trying to pretend I'm Musk, but could using his name in vain be the reason?
Is it because I've tweeted and emailed some of the "Twitter Files" bloggers - Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, and David Zweig - to let them know I'm going to work to discredit them to their base over implicitly trying to make it appear that Musk is against censorship? While the "Twitter Files" information is shocking in some parts and interesting in others, it doesn't tell the whole picture. For a tangible example, Taibbi made big deal about Senator Angus King's censorship requests. Yet, Taibbi didn't reveal that Elon Musk's Twitter is censoring about 51% of the replies to King. Those "Twitter Files" bloggers are trying to help Elon Musk deceive. They aren't having much luck with it: as they'd admit if they were honest, they haven't changed many minds. Conservatives who strongly dislike Twitter's past management - for good reason - still strongly dislike them. The pro-censorship Dem base is still just as pro-censorship as they were before. If those bloggers were honest for once that might change.
Is it because of the Roy Orbison avatar or the Somalian flag [1]?
Is it because I tweeted a link to this page about James O'Keefe, resulting in a warning [3]? That was around 2/21/23. The reason appears to be because of the "idiotic" in the URL. I clicked the you-got-it-wrong link and tweeted it as shown.
Is it because of other replies? I've included the 93 I was able to download below [4]. Did one of the snowflakes I replied to report me and did Twitter buy it?
Is it because I use a VPN? I've done that for years without major issue. Did I use an IP address that the technically-incompetent at Twitter associate with spamming and, instead of taking 10 seconds to verify I'm not spamming, did they just censor my account root and branch?
Is it because of using @UpWithLiberty with my Twitter censorship checker? That visits page after page and collects tweets, but it doesn't tweet. It does that using a real browser and aside from metronomically visiting page after page there's no way to tell it's not a human (unless Selenium or Firefox are adding something to requests).

Tori Otten deceives about a mass shooting (TNR)

At the New Republic, Tori Otten blogs "Gavin Newsom Says Second Amendment Is “Becoming a Suicide Pact” After Yet Another Mass Shooting" (link) about a recent shooting:

The Half Moon Bay attack is California’s third mass shooting in just three days. A 67-year-old gunman opened fire on a mushroom farm and a nearby trucking facility. The victims were primarily Chinese laborers.

The "Chinese laborers" at the end links to another TNR blog, "The American Victims of Washington’s Anti-China Hysteria/The “Yellow Peril” tropes that may pave the way for a new war abroad have historically fueled anti-Asian hate on these shores."

Otten is trying to make it sound like the shooting was the result of anti-Asian animus, basically trying to pin it on a white guy (preferably a Trump supporter).

In fact, the shooter was a 67-year-old Asian male, Chunli Zhao. He had some sort of work association with the two locations involved and this appears to be a case of workplace violence. In any case, it's not motivated by anti-Asian animus as Otten tries to deceive her readers into assuming.

Football ("soccer") vs NFL kneeball: which is better?

Two things can be counted on every four years: the World Cup, and conservative pundits smearing football. Not only that, those pundits go on to promote NFL/NCAAF kneeball.

I'll look at the differences between the two sports and discuss some of the objections those pundits have, focusing on blogs by Ann Coulter, Michael Medved and others.

Regarding terminology, I'll refer to the "sport" the NFL/NCAAF play as kneeball due to their obsession with taking a knee. I'll refer to "soccer" as football. Other terms can be easily found online. So:

World Cup = football
Super Bowl = kneeball

Here are some of the key differences between the two:

Kneeball	Football
Kneeball is anti-white and that's never going to change due to the racial makeup of their teams. The great majority of kneeball players are black, and almost all of them support the black nationalist group BLM [1]. BLM's core concept is "white privilege", which is just a generalized version of anti-Jewish conspiracy theories [2]. Many NFL players want reparations [3]. The NFL panders to those sentiments and has completely caved to BLM. The NFL even plays the racial separatist "black national anthem" before each game. Having a separate national anthem is about as anti-American as it gets. NFL also actively engages in anti-white affirmative action. Whites rarely can play anything other than offensive line, quarterback, or special teams. For instance, in 2014, there were zero white cornerbacks or nose tackles [4]. The NFL and others are keen on more black quarterbacks; after that they'll probably go after kickers. For more on how "woke" kneeball is, read the NFL's releases on "equity", etc [5]. It was obvious to me and some others that NFL would edge ever closer to being the National Farrakhan League, but conservatives like Coulter couldn't figure that out (as with so many other issues).	Football, on the other hand, is whites-friendly. Whites can excel at every position. Most of the top football players are white. Admittedly, after the George Floyd incident, MLS and a few other leagues went woke, resulting in several players taking a knee. However, due to the racial makeup of football players and their fans, that's mostly petered out. MLS flirted with the "MLS is black" slogan [6] but soon replaced it with a "soccer for everyone" slogan. Good luck getting MLS to admit to the [6] slogan nowadays. The English league took a knee, as does the England national team [7]. However, none of them are as far gone as kneeball. The teams in the Spanish, Italian, Mexican, etc, etc leagues never once took a knee. The bottom line is that football is about as "woke" as baseball: sometimes they play along with SJW pieties, but after that they just play the game.
One core belief of kneeball boosters is how manly it supposedly is. Those boosters consider kneeball to be the very apex of heterosexuality and manliness and football players to be effeminate. That's ironic considering how incredibly gay kneeball is. Kneeball is one of the few sports where players wear makeup, shoulder pads, and spandex tights. The terminology in kneeball is as gay as a Broadway musical: "endzone", "tight ends", "wide receivers", etc etc. Every single kneeball play starts with players bending over and raising their butts in the air. Then, other players hover over those bent over players. The quarterback takes it a step further: he slips his hands between the center's thighs. After the bent-over warmup, those macho macho men begin groping each other and end it all by falling on top of each other. A kneeball tackle is a very intimate affair, with one dude lying on top of another dude. They frequently get into a spoon or scissors position, with their spandex-clad legs intertwined. Not to put too fine a point on it, but a kneeball tackle is basically simulated gay sex. Not surprising since the goal of kneeball is to get into the "endzone". I'm not the first person to realize how incredibly gay kneeball is, of course [8]. I'm not making a value judgment on this, but it would be better for kneeball fans if they just admitted what they're actually watching.	There is occasionally grapling and jostling in football, but not falling on top of other players or groping as there is in kneeball. A football tackle involves taking the ball away from another player using your feet with minimal man-on-man contact. Anything close to NFL-style contact would result in a yellow or red card (and probably a suspension). Kneeball fans who want hot man-on-man action won't find it in football: they should stick with kneeball or try oiled wrestling.
Kneeball is like a weird prison exercise: "line up, bend over, do exactly as you're told". It's like the "gladiator fights" that prison guards have been accused of staging using prisoners. Many NFL players committed crimes before, during, or after their careers. Kneeball is excessively violent, a mugging disguised as a "sport". When the "sport" you play is a mugging, committing a real mugging isn't much of a stretch. And, that's how most kneeball fans like it. And, unfortunately, that doesn't stay on the field. Countless NFL players have been involved in violent crimes [9]. The NFL even put Ray Lewis in their Hall of Fame after he was involved in a double murder. Kneeball extolling violence no doubt contributes to black criminality. Coulter and others present senseless violence as a conservative thing and they frequently cheer hockey fights. Those are usually just pantomime boxing matches and, as with kneeball fans, hockey fans eat it up. However, the key difference between hockey and NFL violence is the cowardly nature of kneeball violence: it usually comes as a sneak attack of some kind. Violence-as-entertainment is culturally corrosive, but the kneeball variety is of the worst kind.	Football doesn't present violence as the solution; it penalizes violence with yellow and red cards and even suspensions. Compare the list of footballers' crimes [10]. If Mark Chapman had played in the NFL, the league and the fans would probably have given him a medal instead.
Kneeball is higher scoring than football and ties are rare. However, consider that the "most common final score for games throughout NFL history is 20-17, followed by 27-24" [11]. That's about 3 or 4 scores to 3. That isn't surprising since it's fairly easy to score in kneeball. Compare basketball: once a team has the ball, there's an excellent chance they're going to score. Then, the other team gets the ball and they score, and so on. Kneeball is similar to that. The only ways a kneeball team can lose possession are fumbles, interceptions, and failing to get first downs. Passes are completed about 70% of the time. Once a team has the ball, they have a 20% chance of going on to get a touchdown. Then, the other team gets the ball and the process repeats. Both kneeball teams almost always score. That's very fair, except life isn't fair.	Football is more like baseball in that the defense is able to prevent a large number of scores except in occasional cases. Many baseball runs come when a pitcher is tiring or makes a bad pitch or three. While there are many clutch hits throughout the baseball season, it's never assured that even an excellent player will get a hit when necessary. Likewise, in football even the best players frequently get stymied by a good defense. If it was as easy to score in football as it is in kneeball, you'd see basketball-style scores.
A common belief among conservative pundits who hype kneeball is that "hard work should be rewarded". I.e., if a team puts in a half an hour or so to conduct a drive, they deserve a score just for trying.	Football is rooted in the real world, not an "everyone gets a score" fantasy world. Football teams frequently have lots of possession but lose. A football team might have 20 shots on goal and lose to a team that only had one shot on goal. Conservatives pundits think everyone should get a trophy: the team that actually won and their opponents for trying hard. That's not how football or real life works. The best team is the one that ends up in the better position after the game. No team gets points for failed shots or having more possession.
Unlike every other adult sport, kneeball has a very large number of emotionally-fraught Big Babies. While every sport has problem players, kneeball has the most per capita. How many times have you seen kneeball players throw tantrums, have to be consoled by their coaches, etc? Most kneeball coaches are more like counselors or religious officials; kneeball players practically need a tent revival meeting to get them to do their jobs. Kneeball players tend to have little or no impulse control, which is probably one of the reasons why so many have been involved in serious crimes.	Many players in other sports sometimes get emotional, and sometimes they cry when losing key series. However, Big Babies are very rare. Most players in every other sport are professionals who realize they're getting paid exorbitant amounts of money, and act accordingly. Plus, football players have some of the biggest egos in all sport and are driven to get goals. Top players tend to be prima donnas, but they can follow through.
One of the contributing factors to Big Babies in kneeball might be the fact that only some kneeball players have the opportunity to score. Few offensive tackles are ever going to score a touchdown: most such players will rarely be noted by the average fan. Most kneeball players are like assembly line workers with their roles decided by body type: few defensive linemen could play as wide receivers. Never having much of an impact on the final score and knowing you'll never see the individual limelight probably leads to a great deal of frustration. Kneeball's regimentation seems to be unique: few if any other sports have separate offensive and defensive teams and such clearly-defined roles. Only very rarely does a defensive player go on the offense or vice versa.	Every real football player - even defenders and keepers - have multiple opportunities to score in their careers. Even pitchers have hit home runs. Many football defenders and midfielders are as famous as the more forward players. Offense-oriented players will frequently participate in the defense and vice versa.
Kneeball is an extremely structured sport: they even point the players in the direction they want them to go so they don't get confused. A soviet of coaches decides their every move. Almost all of the thinking is done for kneeball players: they just run a route, or throw to a "receiver" who's going to be at a pre-designated location. Obviously, for the quarterback it's harder than that: they have to adapt to what the defense is doing. But, other players are just following orders. There are few compound movements in kneeball: each play is distinct and only consists of a simple run, a hand-off plus a run, a throw plus a run, or a kick. Only in extremely rare plays like the "flea flicker" or the "Stanford band play" does a play consist of more than just one or two simple moves. And, each and every kneeball play has a delay of 30 seconds up to ten minutes. That means fans can usually run an errand or three once their team gets the ball, and when they get back the team might have made it to the 20 yard line or so.	In football, players need to constantly think ahead... while running, and dribbling the ball, and keeping opponents from capturing possession. A goal in football might involve several preliminary passes, each from a different player, all done without any breaks and all done by players on their own without any input from a soviet of coaches. And, players have to be ready to switch from offense to defense at a moment's notice. One moment a forward player might be running towards the opponent's goal, the next an opposing player might have regained possession and the forward player would need to run back to defend. A goal in football can happen at a second's notice. It could be 1 minute into the game, or in the last second of stoppage time. That seems to be one of the things that conservative pundits can't adapt to: they want a slow, plodding, structured, predictable game with plenty of breaks.
In kneeball, you can use your hands. The players use them to grope other players and there are no restrictions on that. There are, however, restrictions on who can handle the ball and when. The quarterback can only throw from behind the line of scrimmage and only to certain players. There are similar restrictions on kicking. The player with possession of the ball can maintain possession by holding on to the ball. Occasionally an opposing player will wrest the ball from them, but that might only happen once or twice per game.	Football doesn't have restrictions on who can kick the ball when. The keeper can handle the ball, but only in the 18 yard box. The ball is advanced by dribbling it, and opposing players are constantly trying to take the ball away while a player dribbles it. That happens much more frequently than the similar situation in kneeball, making possession much less of a sure thing in football. If football players could hold onto and run with the ball, that wouldn't be football: it'd be rugby. And, the only way to stop the running player would be a violent tackle as in kneeball or rugby. Australian Rules lets players only run a certain distance with the ball before they have to pass it, but they allow tackles. If conservative pundits can design a game where players can carry the ball but there aren't sociopathic violent tackles, have at it. Otherwise, accept that dribbling with your feet is an acceptable way to have a wide open game where possession can change rapidly.
Concussions are a serious problem in kneeball and are probably another one of the contributing factors to Big Babies. Not only do linemen constantly have jarring head contact, but the head is a weapon in kneeball. Reducing the numbers of concussions would require a wholesale change to how kneeball is played & might even do away with wearing helmets. Kneeball's sociopathic fans are there for the violence so the chances of them supporting those changes are near nil.	Concussions in football are a serious problem too. However, there are fewer [13] than in kneeball because the head is not a weapon in football. Football concussions are inadvertent and due to two players jumping for a ball, two players colliding going for the ball, etc. Kneeball concussions are part of the "sport". Cf the belief by some conservatives that bike helmets are just for sissies [14].
A largely white audience watching largely black kneeball teams hurt each other as part of a "sport" has an unseemly plantation feel to it.	That largely doesn't apply to football both because the goal of football isn't to hurt your opponents, and there's a much closer match between the players' races and the audience.
The average NFL kneeball game lasts 3 hours and 12 minutes [15]. The average MLB baseball game is 3 hours, 3 minutes [16].	Coulter claims football games take a long time. In fact, almost all professional football games end in less than two hours total. In the cases where a game is tied after 90 minutes but must have a result (like in the elimination stages of the World Cup), it goes another 30 minutes. If it's still tied, it goes to penalty kicks (maybe another 15 minutes). With breaks and stoppage time, the maximum total elapsed time is around 3 hours and thus around the same as kneeball or baseball games (unless they go to overtime/extra innings). No football games go longer than that because playing football is a lot more taxing than kneeball or baseball.
Kneeball in close to its present form started at Yale around 1888 [17]. It was derived from rugby and football. Rugby has lots of groping and other forms of man-on-man contact, but that wasn't enough for Walter Camp and his successors as they added the bending over, the quarterback slipping his hands between another player's thighs, and the full-on man-on-man tackling that kneeball fans love today.	Football started as an organized college sport in 1876 when Princeton and Rutgers squared off [18]. Thus, it's older in the USA than kneeball. It too was derived from rugby. The claims of conservative pundits that football is somehow "foreign" rests on the "features" Walter Camp added, like dudes bending over. Otherwise, football and kneeball are both basically English sports that started in the USA in the late 1800s. One isn't any more foreign than the other. Note too that modern baseball originated in the USA, but it came from English games. Modern hockey appears to have started in Canada but from an earlier English version. The only uniquely American sport appears to be basketball, but all sports have similar games going back thousands of years. It's not like the idea of hitting things with a stick, carrying a ball, kicking a ball, etc etc are new concepts.

The above answers some of the false claims by Coulter [19] [20] and others. Here are responses to some of their other false claims:

Coulter claims "individual achievement is not a big factor in [football]. In a real sport, players fumble passes, throw bricks and drop fly balls - all in front of a crowd... In soccer, the blame is dispersed and almost no one scores anyway. There are no heroes, no losers, no accountability, and no child's fragile self-esteem is bruised."

Why does Coulter want kids to be emotionally crushed? And, aside from games involving the youngest players, her claims are delusional. It's easy to find thousands of people discussing individual players' merits or failings during any major football game (or for years later). Individual achievement is a huge issue to most top players: they have egos to match their skills. After a key game, fans discuss the roles individual players played in the win or loss. Coulter might not know who the players are, but everyone else does. As in every other sport, the players have their names and numbers on their uniforms, they tend to cluster in various parts of the field based on their role, and announcers mention their names.

Coulter says "[t]he prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport." Hoping for traumatic injuries is an incorrect and sociopathic definition of sports, but many football players have been forced to sit out whole seasons due to injuries and many players have been humiliated. Coulter is ignorant and has emotional problems.

Coulter claims "[m]ost sports are sublimated warfare". It's just that in kneeball that "warfare" is between U.S. cities. While U.S. hockey, baseball, and basketball teams occasionally play other countries, and we have national teams in those sports and compete in the Olympics, the main example of countries facing off against one another is football. Coulter thinks it's acceptable that the USA should lose to Belgium, but few patriotic Americans agree.

Coulter says "I resent the force-fed aspect of soccer." That's getting closer to her real objections, and yet again she shows she just isn't smart enough to take on those like the New York Times. The NYT hyping something doesn't tell you whether it's a good thing or a bad thing; if they hype walking does that mean you should sit around all day? (If you're a Coulter, it probably does). Just because the NYT has hyped football doesn't make football bad. The correct response is to co-opt.

Coulter claims "we don't have to be endlessly told how exciting football is". That's not exactly true: the 30 seconds to 10 minutes between each kneeball play is filled with bright shiny graphics and loud music designed to keep the viewer from realizing what a snore-a-thon it is. Some of the NFL graphics are like something from The Onion. You don't see things like that in real football.

Coulter says "[o]ne group of sports fans with whom soccer is not "catching on" at all, is African-Americans. They remain distinctly unimpressed by the fact that the French like it." If blacks want to keep NFL and NBA as their own, by all means let them have it. For the reasons outlined in this post, whites should avoid enabling kneeball. Don't try to play kneeball, don't watch it, don't refer to it, discourage others from watching it. Instead, whites should focus on whites-friendly sports where they can excel: football, baseball, and (to a lesser extent), hockey.

As for the Coulter's obsession with what the French like, their male and female national teams are almost all of African descent, and their top-level pro teams tend that way. Apparently playing football isn't something middle class French whites do. Which leads to the same unhealthy plantation dynamic as in kneeball: a largely white audience cheering for largely black players. Football in France also has lower revenues than the other Big Five European leagues (England, Spain, Germany, and Italy).

Coulter complains, "Team USA tied Portugal and lost to Germany - and then advanced". Understanding the points system and tables isn't that difficult. This is yet another example of her intellectual laziness. (Note that the NHL uses a similar point system to football, and the table comes into play for the MLB playoffs and probably NFL kneeball too.)

Coulter claims "[kneeball] players are wearing about 100 pounds of gear". Actually, it appears to be 15 pounds or so [21].

Coulter complains about football players taking breaks during very hot weather: "[t]ell that to NFL players in New Orleans or Miami, where regular-season games have reached temperatures of over 100 degrees". There's about 5.5 minutes of actual action in one half of a kneeball game; most of their time is spent milling about or on the bench (unlike football, kneeball players can be substituted in/out at will). They have access to water throughout the game.

If Coulter had bothered to actually watch it, she'd know that football is very different. Players can't just go sit on the bench and come back in. They're constantly moving, and frequently running. Some players run five miles or more per game. Few kneeball players would survive running several miles in 100F weather (for the ones that can run, of course).

Finally, I'll briefly look at a couple of claims by Medved [22]. He says, "[t]he conservative temperament instinctively and admirably recoils at the fashionable and the faddish, rightly preferring the timeless, tried and true." Yet, as we see above, kneeball started in the USA after football. Referring to the USMNT loss to Belgium (then and now one of the top teams in the world) in the 2014 World Cup, he says of claims USMNT had improved to becoming a "middle of the pack team", he says: "The Left celebrates the idea of the USA as a “middle of the pack team”; the Right prefers a demonstration of unassailable American dominance." The USA only does well in kneeball because no one else plays it. It's the same reason why Australian teams keep winning the AFL Grand Final: no one else cares about their version of rugby.

Conservative pundits don't care if we can beat Belgium, but patriotic Americans should.

California Dept of Public Health deceives about Covid-19 vaccines

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and others deceive regarding Covid-19, even as they try to silence their opponents by accusing them of spreading "disinfo".

For one example, see the CDPH PDF "Busting Myths with the Facts" from their "Trust and Safety team". The PDF (last updated 11/3/21) is at [1] and is archived at [2] in case it changes. It includes this:

If you see or hear of any vaccine-related rumors across social media or in your communities, share them with the Trust and Safety team at Rumors@cdph.ca.gov for awareness and possible action.

After reading the below, please share it with others on social media accounts associated with CDPH (@CAPublicHealth, @ericapanMD_CDPH, @GavinNewsom, @JenSiebelNewsom, etc). You can also email the CDPH and suggest they engage in the "possible action" of telling the truth.

Here's the first deceptive claim CDPH makes:

Myth: COVID-19 vaccines cause adverse reactions
Fact: Common side effects are usually mild and occur 1-2 days after vaccination. Local side effects include pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site. Other side effects include fever, fatigue, mild headache, chills, and body aches. These side effects are a sign of the body’s normal response to the vaccine when building immunity. Not everyone may experience side effects; either way, the vaccines have proven to be effective for all of us.

That's obviously deceptive. First, it's not a myth that they cause adverse reactions, as CDPH then goes on to detail. They admit fever is a possible side-effect and most people would consider that to be an "adverse reaction". If they meant serious adverse reactions, you can easily find countless people talking about how the vaccine knocked them out (if you don't already know several personally). Examples: "I was knocked off my butt with it", "the Moderna booster knocked me flat out for a solid 48 hours", etc. Someone who's flat on their back for two days isn't going to trust CDPH downplaying the severity of the adverse reaction. For more on adverse reactions that you won't find from a censored search engine like Google corporate, search at sites like zerohedge, just do your own due diligence [3]. Finally, their claim that "vaccines have proven to be effective for all of us" is false. See, for instance, "Coronavirus vaccines may not work in some people. It’s because of their underlying conditions" from the Washington Post [4], "COVID-19 vaccines may protect many, but not all, people with suppressed immune systems" from Science dot org [5], etc. etc.

Another deceptive CDPH claim is:

Myth: It is unnecessary for young, healthy people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Fact: As more adults and teens aged 16 and up become vaccinated, our focus shifts to our younger population, as they remain susceptible. The more vaccinations get into the arms of those eligible, the more we stop the spread of COVID-19 and shrink the pool of people vulnerable to it. When anyone is vaccinated against COVID-19, no matter what age, they are not only protecting themselves, but also helping to stop the spread to their friends, older family members, and everyone who works hard to keep our communities safe and open.

The deception in the claim that they're "protecting themselves" depends on the reader. If the reader assumes that means the vaccine keeps you from catching Covid19, that's deceptive. Large numbers of people have caught C19 ("breakthrough infections") despite having received one or more doses of the vaccine; even the CDC admits that [6]. As for "stop[ping] the spread", see e.g. "COVID vaccines cut the risk of transmitting Delta - but not for long" [7] from Nature: "The first study to look directly at how well vaccines prevent the spread of the Delta variant... shows that people who become infected with the Delta variant are less likely to pass the virus to their close contacts if they have already had a COVID-19 vaccine than if they haven’t. But that protective effect is relatively small, and dwindles alarmingly at three months after the receipt of the second shot." That's from October 2021. From January 2022, see "Effect of Covid-19 Vaccination on Transmission of Alpha and Delta Variants" [8] and others. It's also debatable (or would be, if not for widespread censorship) whether vaccinating younger people is a wise idea; see the (very poorly-named) "Great Barrington Declaration" [9]. A campaign was conducted against that proposal by tying it to Donald Trump, scaring off many from discussing the idea.

Yet another deceptive CDPH claim is:

Myth: COVID-19 vaccines are going to be a mandatory requirement from the government.
Fact: There is currently no mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirement from either the state or federal government. Once more and more Californians see how safe and effective the COVID-19 vaccines are, we hope they will voluntarily opt to receive them.

Bearing in mind the PDF was last updated in November 3, 2021, three months earlier, on August 5, 2021, "the California Department of Public Health issued a new State Public Health Order (“Order”), which expressly mandates the COVID-19 vaccine for health care workers, as defined by the Order" [10] [11]. The CDPH later mandated boosters [12] [13]:

The day after the PDF was updated on November 4, 2021: "the [U.S.] Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is announcing the details of a requirement for employers with 100 or more employees to ensure each of their workers is fully vaccinated or tests for COVID-19 on at least a weekly basis... the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at the Department of Health and Human Services is announcing the details of its requirement that health care workers at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid are fully vaccinated. The rule applies to more than 17 million workers at approximately 76,000 health care facilities... The Administration has previously implemented policies requiring millions of federal employees and federal contractors to be fully vaccinated..." [14]

Two months before the PDF was updated, the U.S. Army required Covid-19 vaccinations ("Army announces implementation of mandatory vaccines for Soldiers", September 14, 2021 [17]) and has more recently begun discharging those who won't get vaccinated [18].

There are also Covid-19 vaccine requirements for visitors by air [15] and land [16].

Attempts to make Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory continue. From March 2, 2022's "California legislators propose new slate of COVID-19 vaccine laws" [19]: "SB 871 would require all children 0 to 17 to get the COVID-19 vaccine to attend child care or school... AB 1993 would require all employees, including independent contractors, to show proof of COVID-19 vaccine to work in California... AB 2098 would reclassify the sharing of COVID-19 “misinformation” by doctors and surgeons as unprofessional conduct that would result in disciplinary action."

Those who try to silence opponents by accusing them of spreading "misinfo" or "disinfo" are frequently not credible themselves. And, they're a clear threat to open debate. They're also anti-science: open debate and questioning authority is the foundation of science. Please take the actions described above. Force those like CDPH to start just telling the truth and stop trying to quash dissent.

UPDATE: I filed a Public Records Act request (like a FOIA) and CDPH maintains that their deception is factual, even though it isn't. Here's their response (the second paragraph below has my request):

Ask Dr. Erica Pan this question (Reddit Coronavirus AMA)

Dr. Erica Pan of the California Department of Public Health [1] did a Reddit AMA today [2] but didn't answer a tough question I posted for her. She did, however, get lots of weak questions and responded with a few weak answers [3].

If you realize how vital it is that policy makers are asked tough questions rather than fluff questions, go to one of her public appearances and ask her the question I posted:

My question is about the vax tiers.

Those 65 and older were included in the first tier because they make up about 70% of the deaths.

However, those 50-64 - who are 20% of CA C19 deaths - were the last tier before it was opened up to everyone.

What's the science behind the decision to make millions of people at high ICU risk wait behind millions of people at lower ICU risk?

Are there any studies you can point to that would back up your decision?

To put it another way:

If you make 1 million people aged 18-29 wait 1 month for doses, a certain number of them will die waiting. Call that number "LOW".
Now, do the same calculation but with those aged 50-64. Call that number "HIGH".

Isn't "HIGH" higher than "LOW"?

(Note that those 50-64 are 20% of CA C19 deaths, while those 18-29 are 0.5% of CA C19 deaths.)

You'll frequently hear that young/healthy "essential workers" are at "high risk", but there are different risks. They're at high infection risk, but they're at low ICU/death risk.

Some also say the goal of vaxing young/healthy before seniors/high risk was to limit the "spread". Yet, now that we have doses, the real danger of the spread is who it's spread to. If it's spread to someone young/healthy, they might not even notice getting C19. If it's spread to a senior, they might die. Vaxing by ICU risk would make worries about the spread less of an issue.

Some also say it was OK to make seniors wait for doses because they can continue to take precautions. Yet, as the death stats show, many weren't.

You can ask the first part, or the second part. Reserve the "some say" parts for your follow up question, which should come back to her making an admission against interest, or at least obviously dodging the question. Biden implies whites would be low priority for COVID vaccine; lies about stats

Joe Biden implies non-whites would be prioritized ahead of whites for receiving the COVID19 vaccine, and also lied about the statistics regarding those who've died from the disease.

From the transcript of his November 19, 2020 press conference (bolding added) [1]:

...One important thing to understand is there is a, and we’ve talked a lot about this and we’ve talked about it and talked about it when I was running, seeking the nomination as well. And that is that the idea of the brown, black, Asian American, Native American communities are always the first ones hit the hardest. And the last ones who are brought back. We’re going to flip that around. It’s going to be really important to determine priorities based upon access to the information that’s available, access to everything from the vaccine to other opportunities to be able to deal with helping the country, part of the country that’s hurt the worst. Three times as many African-Americans have died than white Americans died from COVID.

So there has to be a prioritization. That’s why I’d like to know exactly what this administration has in mind in terms of their Operation Warp Speed and how they plan it. And that’s what we talked about with the governors today. They all mentioned the need to focus on communities that have been left behind, particularly Governor Cuomo. It’s one thing if, for example, vaccines are distributed to all the Walgreens of America. No criticism of Walgreens, but there’s a lot of those facilities that aren’t in rural communities and are not in poor communities, African-American, Latino communities. So we’ve got to make sure there’s access for them...

1. Biden is probably referring to the claim "US blacks 3 times more likely than whites to get COVID-19" [2], but that's not the same as his claim. As of August, the CDC claims the black death rate is 2.1 higher [3]. The SJWs at The Atlantic make the same claim [4]. While "fact checkers" have called Biden on similar lies in the past [5], don't expect that in this case and don't expect a correction.

2. Much worse is his claim that he's going to "flip" things around. So, let's do that: "[whites will be] the first ones hit the hardest. And [whites will be the] last ones who are brought back". Racist, no? It's a valid point about making sure the vaccines are as available to as many people as possible, but that's not what Biden said: he wants to deprioritize whites in receiving the vaccine. Instead of prioritizing all front-line workers no matter their race, he'd send whites to the back of the bus.

Why I voted for Trump

I was forced into voting for Trump because his leading opponents haven't shown they'd be better on many issues and would be dramatically worse on many other issues. Since I'm in California my vote is completely symbolic, but this post is for those in states that matter in the national election.

I'm by no means a Trump fan; see the dozens of anti-Trump posts on the Donald Trump page. Trump's many character flaws have led to actions that have greatly hurt the USA; he has blood on his hands over his gross mismanagement of the pandemic.

However, what have his leading opponents actually done to show that they would have done a better job on things like the pandemic? For many of them, Trump has been a godsend: he's kept them afloat selling books, appearing on TV, and getting clicks. Instead of doing smart things that would have made Trump do a better job, all they did is join the "Trump ecosystem", playing the yin to Trump's yang.

And, on key issues, they'd be even worse than Trump:

Immigration: despite his tough talk, Trump is very weak on the issue. When he's pushed amnesty, his base has pushed back and stopped him. If the Dems were in charge, they might succeed with the anti-American DREAM Act or even full comprehensive immigration reform where Trump failed.
Censorship: the GOP and conservatives in general are as eager to censor their opponents as the Dems, they just don't have the power to make it happen. Give the Dems and the media more power and they'll use it to quash dissent as much as they can get away with.
Cultural issues: Trump had a chance to undercut the racial power group BLM but failed miserably. His few arguments against them and SJWs in general are incredibly weak and, as anyone who's watched any U.S. sporting event in 2020 knows, have been completely ineffective. He's also repeatedly given SJWs material to work with, in part because he's grossly incompetent and in part to rile up his base. However, if the Dems were in charge SJWs would be given free rein, causing permanent damage to the USA.

Consider two tragedies that happened on Trump's watch, Hurricane Maria and the COVID-19 pandemic:

Hurricane Maria: Puerto Rico is smaller than Connecticut, its highest point is lower than the highest point of Los Angeles City (and less than half the highest point of the County), and has fewer residents than the City. It took over a week to get teams to each of the 300 or so settlements on the island; that could've happened in a couple of days if Trump were competent and patriotic. If Trump's leading opponents were capable of doing a better job, then why didn't they? Trump is extremely malleable; taking smart actions that would put his pride on the line or endanger his standing with his base would have forced him to do a better job. What did his opponents do instead? They just used Trump's incompetence to get attention (see the tweets to Carmen Yulín Cruz and Chef Jose Andres). Trump's opponents just played their usual childish games that made Trump even worse.
The Pandemic: Trump's gross incompetence has cost thousands of lives: downplaying the threat, allowing infections to spread, not getting enough supplies, politicizing the issue, taking everything as a personal attack, opposing wearing masks, and even infecting those in his administration. He couldn't have done worse if he were intending to hurt the USA and kill as many people as possible. Now ask yourself: what have his opponents done that shows they would have done a better job? They too politicized the issue, even trying to racialize a pandemic. For over 7 months I've been pushing a smart plan that would have forced Trump to do a better job on C19. It's something Trump's opponents could have easily done and still could easily do. I spent hundreds of dollars on ads pushing the plan and I've spent countless hours trying to make it happen. Did Trump's opponents do that or similar? No: it was just one clickbait blog after another, one emotional breakdown after another, one cheap stunt after another. Instead of using Trump's emotional weaknesses to make him do a better job, they obsessed over how he drank a glass of water once and other childish nonsense.

Talk is cheap: what have Trump's opponents actually done to make him do a better job for the USA?

At any time during the last 5+ years, have they even once ever showed any degree of competence at another other than using Trump to get on TV or virtue signal about not liking the cut of his jib?

If Trump loses, it will validate every idiotic, childish, un- and anti-American thing his worthless opponents have done and empower people who are even worse than Trump and his core supporters.

As horrific as Trump has been, what he'd do with another four years wouldn't be as bad as what his opponents would do.

Does Katherine Rodriguez of Breitbart truly oppose illegal immigration?

Does Katherine Rodriguez of Breitbart News sincerely oppose amnesty and illegal immigration, or is she just using it for clicks? Let's find out.

Rodriguez blogs "Flip-Flop: Amy Klobuchar Says English Should Not Be Official Language of U.S." (link). It's a standard issue gotcha piece:

Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said at a recent campaign stop that English should not be the official language of the United States, even though she voted for a pro-English language bill during her time in the Senate... Klobuchar has flip-flopped on immigration policies, once supporting projects like a wall and E-Verify to ban employers from hiring illegal aliens back in 2006...

The Katherine Rodriguez blog is just entertainment (and, as the top comments show, entertainment for dim people). No doubt very few if any Breitbart readers were going to vote for Klobuchar and will change their minds due to what they read at Breitbart. Rodriguez isn't trying to reach out to those who might vote for Klobuchar.

If you oppose amnesty & illegal immigration, her blog is worthless.

Thankfully, there's something Rodriguez and Breitbart can do right now to help their supposed goals.

We want Breitbart to help flip Klobuchar back. She's obviously "fluid" in her positions and doing smart things could make her better on immigration. Those smart things would also send a message to the other candidates.

Specifically, we want Breitbart to go to Klobuchar's events and ask her tough questions that are designed to make enabling illegal immigration politically toxic. If Klobuchar is forced to admit the downsides of illegal immigration, she's going to be less likely to push it. And, that will make it less likely that the other candidates will push it.

All Rodriguez and Breitbart have to do is go to Klobuchar's events and ask her one of those questions, then post the video. They'll probably get a Drudge link, and they'll definitely send a strong message.

What flips can flip back, and a little pressure could make Klobuchar flip back. And, Breitbart has the resources to go to her events until they get to ask a question. It's certainly worth a try, isn't it? It's not like what Breitbart currently does is going to pressure Klobuchar in any way, is it?

That said, the chances of Breitbart doing this are slim indeed. They've repeatedly pushed amnesty (see Joel Pollak; they also repeatedly pushed the Bob Goodlatte amnesty bill). As those like Katherine Rodriguez demonstrate, their goal is to get clicks, not to solve problems.
