Ok, so it’s not often that we post videos on the mag blog but we think it’s important to show how to do things, as opposed to just reading about them all the time – do you agree? As you may recall, we read Kristen Ma’s Pure + Simple book on achieving beautiful skin from the inside, out and also hosted a giveaway last month. Later, we had a phone interview with the joyous Joy McCarty of  joyoushealth.ca. In both interactions with these sensationally healthy Canadians, we learned a ton about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Ultimately (yes, things take time) you’ll notice the benefits with a glowing complexion and just feeling good on the inside.

We are obviously big fans of Kristen and Joy because they know what they’re talking about and they serve as proof that you can teach yourself how to be healthy. CHECK OUT Kristen’s tub talk with Joy as they chat about Super Foods that hydrate the skin and give it the water it needs to look radiant. Enjoy! There were several jaw-drooping favorites such as a long velvet gown with slits in the front (where you can see the green interior) as well as a few sequin tops us twenty somethings would totally show off on a night out. Moreover, the green skirts and tops brought modernity to classic style with gold belts and signature pearls. The ready-to-wear clothing brought excitement for the season to come – colored denim, wool sweaters, long textured dresses and bright prints. It’s evident that the move from Spring to Fall will be an exciting transition.

Beauty HIGHLIGHTS – Glowing skin, soft smokey eyes and messy bird’s nest inspired braided side dos.

Trend Alert HIGHLIGHTS - Southwest prints, backless numbers and just a dab of color – It was also beautiful to see Miss Angela Simmons participate in the presentation (stealing the show in a long black Ainsley frock from her Spring collection). She looked absolutely stunning in person holding hands with a model in my favorite Ainsley outfit – the wild horse mustang jumpsuit which just flowed down her back.

I’m proud to have been introduced to Ainsley NY, as seen on Chelsea Handler last month, thanks to Kosi Harris. I thought this presentation definitely stood out from past NYFW shows I’ve seen, and of course – I couldn’t help but enjoy the complimentary Whistle Pig Rye whiskey, which was surprisingly easy to drink and warm to the heart after a cold night in New York City. As a twenty something, I’m in love with every piece from the fall collection as ”Ainsley thrives on choice, durability, and versatility. She believes in a new fashion realism that clothes must work over and over, from day to night, and season to season.”

Kicking off New York Fashion Week every year, Jennine and her team coordinate a jam packed conference (IFB Con) with phenomenal speakers who are major influences in the blogging world as well as brands who love working with us bloggers. This year was our first time attending and we were blown away!

Sequin shoes, mint mails, military wear (rocked flawlessly by Vintage Vandalizm), faux fur, spring-like outfits and rock star studded pumps graced Milk Studios as we mingled and listened to panelists at IFB Con. Our favorite speakers included Street Etiquette, a pair of twenty-something guys from the Bronx who started blogging while in High School; they kept it very real and said “find what you are passionate about and do it your own way.” Often times we can become a bit consumed with what’s popular in the blogging world, as opposed to just focusing on what we’re good at, documenting and NOT copying – which is a story many bloggers will tell you they’ve experienced.

Be yourself, know your worth, be collaborative and have a work and life balance you can manage, was a trending topic at the conference. Bryanboy, everyone’s fave fiesty blogger noted “don’t do things for the sake of your blog.. You have to live your life!” Finally, the take away advice for us all was to “build our community in a healthy way, you don’t have to explode overnight!” - Wendys Lookbook

It’s been feeling a lot like Spring lately. Celebs have been stepping out in spring like colors too – Solange and Kristen in yellow, Jamie with a floral print skirt, Jessica color-blocking in pastel shades and Mary Kate blends an all black look with a hint of orange clutch and sandals. These outfits are all great examples of what we should be doing to prepare for spring. Start gathering floral dresses or bright blazers and pair them with winter clothes so then you’ll be spring-ready! When the warm months are finally here, the transition will seem effortless.
