If used right, these channels help any serious online publisher move her news site from a part-time passion into a serious, competitive business.

You can’t do it overnight, but with enough nose, patience and dedication you can make good content pay back for itself and then some.

1) Google AdSense

AdSense is by far the best, most rewarding monetization resource for blogs, news sites and small, content-rich information sites. Google offers AdSense, a service that lets independent publishers, bloggers and news site owners to publish text-based, context-relevant ads next to the content on their sites. This is done automatically without you, the publisher, having to worry about anything else except putting small-sized code inside each of your Web pages.

For every click on Google AdSense contextual ads, the publishing sites receives credit for a small amount of money, while Google keeps an undisclosed amount of the total advertising share. Though many lament lack of relevance for the ads and little return for the increased info clutter on their pages — many silent publishers — probably the ones who consciously make less noise about this, are making serious money with this program.

What few understand, is that to make AdSense work for you ($$),it involves strategic work. Just placing the code on your pages isn’t enough. The focus of your site, the way the content is organized, the way web pages are coded, the titles you use and the color and position you select for placing your AdSense ads on your Web pages all make a difference to the results you get. Significant.

What is important is that different rules apply to different types of pages and content. So no set of rules equally apply to all sites. The key is for the publisher to keep questioning the integration of contextual, text-based ads by doing systematic, ongoing testing, experimentation and optimization. For a focused blogger, this can mean from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per month. For a dedicated publisher covering high-paying information areas, it is possible to get into the 5-digit range without any major investments and with a relatively short time-to-market. I am not talking about a blogger in the traditional sense, but rather to focused and very professional independent information resources like SearchEngineWatch.com or Paidcontent.org, for example.

AdSense offers also the opportunity to monetize site searches while providing a powerful, lightning-fast search engine for your own site at no extra cost. By providing search-relevant ads on your site’s search results pages. Google AdSense adds another great opportunity to monetize premium service and access with relevant text-based information about products and services.

Too bad Google AdSense doesn’t let you select your contextual advertisers from its inventory.

Here some great examples of AdSense at work.

Alternative solutions to AdSense: Chitika, Kanoodle, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Yahoo! Publisher Network (in beta).

2) Blogads

Blogads is an effective solution for taking control of your advertisers and comparing your profit share with your online ad agency. As the name clearly implies, Blogads is an advertising service for blogs. When the service first came out, As I mentioned that Blogads offers a great opportunity for small, independent publishers, blogs and news sites to sell their ad space in a direct and useful way. Blogads keeps 20 percent of your net revenue and sends you the rest by Paypal or check as soon as you reach a predetermined amount.

For your advertisers Blogads provides a great bonus in terms of speed and simplicity: “Ordering an ad takes just two or three minutes. Submit your image and/or text ad. Define its duration. Pay with Paypal’s secure forms. You are done. After the blogger approves the ad, return to tweak and optimize clickthroughs, renew or order on new blogs.”

In the case of Blogads the publisher has control over which ads to accept and which ones to reject.

Alternative services:

Crispads is an advertising network focused on blogs. Crispads allows publishers to place ads in blog entries so that they’re included in their RSS/ATOM feeds to generate revenues for syndicated content.

grokAds - an advertising clearinghouse for both buyers and sellers which works with any type of site. Offers quick and easy advertising to a specific market.

Tagword - Much like Blogads, Tagword also lets you to select which kinds of ads you want to sell to your site visitors as well as setting the prices you want to charge. Add the code provided to your selected web pages and you are selling text ads on your site! Users can create their text ads directly and submit them in minutes. Purchased ads appear on your site as soon as you’re ready.

or

Create your own Text-based Ads service

TextAds is an open source text ad management system for web sites using PHP. It’s been deployed with content management systems like PostNuke and should work with any PHP-based website.

The Idya AdSystem is a text ad management solution for web sites. It supports keyword-driven text-ads and PayPal payments. Installing takes a few minutes. Simply upload it to your site, use the installer to install it, and your site is ready to show text ads. You can check the entire list of its features. The AdSystem uses PHP 4 and MySQL, though it port to other DBMSs. The AdSystem has been undergoing re-engineering for version 2, however, it looks like the site is at a standstill and hasn’t been updated since 2003.

3) Amazon Associates

The Amazon Associates program lets independent online publishers with the opportunity to promote any product in Amazon’s inventory as affiliate agents. All it takes is adding a small, identifying code to the links that take your site’s visitors to a specific Amazon product page (books, DVDs, electronics, etc.). If the visitors who clicked on your link buy an item even if it’s not the item you point to — you earn a small commission.

Though the amount of return with the Amazon Associates program is small, nonetheless, it is another way to get income without adding clutter or not-relevant disruptive information to your valuable content. References to relevant books add to the user experience as it helps those who want to search for more information on a topic to see immediate and hand-picked recommendations.

As a matter of fact, it is possible to earn as much as 10 percent per sale as an Amazon Associate.

4) Text Links

Text links are controversial for some purists, but for those seeking a way to monetize content without adding clutter and intrusive ads — it is an interesting opportunity to explore further. Text links are an emerging advertising market that brokers small, text-only links, which often don’t need prominent placement (the payback is not on the clicks) on your site pages.

What the advertisers want is a link presence on your site to gain extra “authority” (like the Google PageRank indicator) in an artificial way. This is why you may have noticed many of these text links being placed at the bottom of content pages or in other non-premium positions. The goal is to increase a site’s value in search engines. The good thing is that as this market grows, the independent publisher has more and more options from which to select. Also, the publisher can approve and accept text links that are complementary and relevant to the site’s content.

Though many text links point to second-rate services and products (online casinos, poker, Viagra, etc.) — this marketplace is growing and becoming more visible, therefore more advertisers of mainstream products and tools are popping up in numbers. Since you are the one accepting such advertising contracts, the selection of what you display is up to you.

To play this game, it is helpful to have a Google PageRank of 4 or more. (Here is an article where you can find out how to measure Google PageRank). For those having a PR value of 6, 7 or more, there is great opportunity for serious monetization. As an indicator, five or six text ads can easily bring in a few hundred dollars every month on a PR 6 site/blog.

A Google generated list of companies brokering text link ads: http://tinyurl.com/66pc4

The example above: FaganFinder
(check the bottom of the home page to see what I mean)

Other online text link agencies: LinkAdage Auctions - Offers blog owners the chance to sell text links on their site at market value through a private online auction.

Text Link Brokerage

Paid Text Links

See also: Will Plain-Text Ads Continue to Rule? (Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox)

5) Premium Content Sponsorships

Selling sponsored space is another option for the independent publisher. While this was associated with prominent flashy banner ads, this is changing and expanding in many ways. In my view, the successful strategy is to use selected and relevant sponsors to introduce, give access or extend the value offered by premium content.

A relevant product or service can sponsor a news channel or RSS feed. Sponsors can also sponsor a rich section of additional related content to a standard article. Having a resourceful bibliography or annotated resources section in your next ebook or mini-guide is also fertile ground to effectively showcase relevant sponsors.

X-events, podcasts, live and recorded web conferences, online interviews are great unobtrusive and relevant sponsorship opportunities.

See also: New Online Advertising Strategies: No More Interruptive Ads

6) Related Reports

Another opportunity should see more in the near future is affiliate marketing of related research reports. For sites that cover specific industry or niche topics, this is an opportunity to play an effective marketing role for research clearinghouses and large publishers of intelligence reports, analyst insider briefings, white papers and research findings.

These types of reports usually carry a higher price tag than normal ebooks and physical publications. The reason for the high price tag is because their content is focused on specific industries and topics, and it has information that’s hard to find elsewhere.

The technology that makes this possible is available from 21Publish (the blog hosting provider) in partnership with Market Research.

7) Affiliate Sales

A good monetization channel for select products and services is affiliate sales. This approach involves signing up to become an affiliate reseller of specific products.

As long as the affiliate products do not affect the publisher’s credibility and provide pointers to useful, high-value products that the publisher fully endorses, affiliate sales are a rewarding monetization channel.

The commissions received for these sales vary depending on the product and the original vendor sales and marketing strategy. LinkShare and Commission Junction are two of the largest affiliate program brokers. Check out their catalogs to get a good idea of what products and commissions are available.

If you write and publish your own e-books and other premium content publications, you may want to consider using an affiliate sales program to give your products greater reach and exposure.

My preferred provider for this is Share-It!, which offers full payment and an ecommerce infrastructure to online publishers while integrating a customizable affiliate program. You can set the commission and the products that you want your affiliates to manage. Share-It! automatically takes care of payments and accountability of the transactions; it sends updates and timely sales reports both to you and to your registered resellers. The system even automatically creates content pages that the reseller can link to from her own site.

 Online Guides and E-Books

Self-published books, e-books, mini-guides, tutorials and other types of premium content generate a respectable source of income for those with relevant and useful content to share. Focused guides and reference publications in niche areas are a growing demand from qualified customers, especially when these products can be easily pre-evaluated in some form.

For bloggers, news sites and small independent publishers’ ebooks and online guides should make a natural monetization channel. Much of the content written for a site is easy to re-edit and re-purpose for commercial use. Reviewing editors, topic-specific bloggers can use their writing talent to put together the best content they have on a specific topic.

Selling ebooks requires good online marketing skills, lots of exposure, visibility and honest testimonials from satisfied buyers. A little army of affiliate resellers can go a long way in helping your ebook get extra exposure and visibility. Plus partnering/bundling your product with those who are already the best in your class helps get more copies out the door.

9) Bookstore Distribution and POD Publishing

You can also increase profitability and exposure of your e-books by using a company like Lightning Source, which can distribute your digital content on Amazon bookshelves while allowing you to offer printed versions of your masterpieces using POD technology (print on-demand).

See also: Turn your weblog into a book

Self-publishing with Lulu.com

Trafford Publishing

10) Merchandising

Selling your branded t-shirt or baseball cap makes sense when your publishing project has a strong brand, a powerful message or an issue that it stands behind.

Why would people shell out USD $20 or more to buy a branded t-shirt promoting a web site? If a bold tagline spells out a strong message or slogan about something of which many are passionate, readers want to support the cause by wearing them.

I think this works effectively where a) the personal brand is good enough to create a desire in readers to “stand” for it (few bloggers or news sites have this kind of charisma, but I people like Joi Ito or Howard Rheingold most likely can command some of this), or b) the author or blog / site stands for something clearly identifiable. It may be an overarching mission or a number of changing issues that make effective marketing themes for such products.

CafePress offers an extensive catalog of shorts, caps, calendars, mugs with over 80 customizable merchandise products waiting for your logo and tagline to be printed on them. CafePress provides the raw merchandise that you can customize by uploading your artwork and interactively adjusting it on through its online command center.

While CafePress charges a base cost for the material (e.g.: USD $13.99 base price for T-shirts), you can price your branded merchandise however you like and CafePress dutifully manages the transaction, payment, shipment and your monthly payments for your hard-earned commissions. In the process CafePress, also creates a full web-based shopping center that can be customized to match your Web site’s design.

11) Collections, Anthologies, Compilations and Curated Content on CD-ROM

Thanks to CafePress and similar services, independent online publishers also have the opportunity to deliver vast amounts of content such as aggregated anthologies of articles, reports, audio and video files, or research collections on CD-ROM. All with complete infrastructure support for the mastering, duplication, labeling and shipping of these.

Again, the publisher pays a wholesale cost for the production of each CD-ROM ordered and the profit comes from the markup that the publisher decides on for each item sold. CafePress clears payments from customers, prints the CD, packages it and ships it to your customer. It sets aside your profit margin and cuts a check for you at the end of the month.

The publisher base price is USD $4.99 per CD (excluding shipping). You can mark up the price as much as you want and CafePress collects payments and sends your profit margin to you.

More info: CafePress Data CD

12) Paid Assignment

While many find this very controversial, more companies are using bloggers and independent sites to talk about, promote or cover specific products and issues. The Marqui program, in which I’ve participated, is a good example. But there are other ways to go about it. A person can go to a company and become its official online blogger. A person can take specific assignments for prominent sites and work for them, with or without credit, covering specific issues.

The important thing here is to be clear and upfront about it. People are inflexible about this because they’re afraid that the people they trusted and read without question before may now write articles because they are paid for it.

From my point of view, I say the following:

a) question your sources, no matter how good they are and how fanatical you are about them.

b) take that ham away from your eyes: there is no objectivity, outside of the transparency of the reporter, blogger or news reporter. Everyone is influenced in one way or another. You don’t need to take money from a customer to be influenced. What about all those journalists and bloggers who routinely receive free evaluations of gadgets and software that everyone else has to pay for? Doesn’t that influence them? Invitations to press dinners? Product launches? Come on.

What counts, and what I think readers value the most, is being upfront, transparent and credible. Assuming you have been, like everyone else, “exposed” to cover certain issues rather than others — what matters is how “transparent” you are about revealing your driving motives, interests and goals while writing on that topic. Can you be influenced while remaining true to your opinions? I believe you can.

Taking money per se is not a disreputable act, neither is getting paid to write about a certain topic: isn’t this what newspapers command their editors to do?

What the critics of paid assignments have underestimated is the large demand out there for this. If the paid writers are transparent, accountable and professional with their assignment, then this is as legitimate as any other activity.

I guess you only need to decide if you are in it for the art or the part.

Marqui paid USD $800 to the bloggers who did the assignment. Each one was required to write four articles a month that at least mentions and links to Marqui.

13) Donations

If you support a cause that goes beyond the mere reporting of news in your areas of interest, why not consider asking your readers for support?

People like to take a stand for the people whom they think can make a difference, so why not use this strategy to finance some of your effective communication campaigns? PayPal Donations, Amazon’s Honor System and BitPass all offer a simple way to add a snippet of code to your site to make it easy for people to donate.

Depending on the system adopted, you may opt to receive money in euros, U.S. dollars, Japanese yen, pounds sterling and other currencies.

If all of the above fails:

a) Join a publishing network
If you are just starting up with your blog or small news site — and need either more traffic, exposure or experience before you feel you can do any of the above on your own — then joining a group blog may work for you.

Metafilter, Chris Pirillo’s Lockergnome Channels, Blogcritics, WikiNews, Blogit or any of these group blogs, if not at my own MasterNewMedia, MasterViews and Kolabora.com, where I am always looking for additional contributors.

Working in a group blog can ease the pressure of having to post on a daily basis, gives you greater exposure in less time and exposes you and your ideas to an existing community of interested readers and other writers.

In some cases, like at Weblogs Inc., Creative Weblogging, Squidoo and elsewhere, contributing bloggers are also paid a share of the advertising revenue their blog generates.

Another great alternative is to look into the creation of local news sites and Get Local News has a smart idea ready to be picked up.

b) Blog your best without worrying about making money in any direct way. Money comes as a consequence of your extra exposure and visibility. Blogging creates extra income by allowing you to enter in close contact with relevant people in your areas of interest, and by facilitating exchange and contact with prospective customers through your online presence.

Simply blogging with no strings attached increases your credibility and authority in the field and earns you extra income when you are called to give advice. Having a blog to showcase your ability to review, explore or analyze issues and products is the best way to market yourself and to provide a living showcase of your talents and abilities.

Listen:
Making Money - session from Bloggercon III
Doc Searls leads the Making Money session at Bloggercon III. If they like what they find, what better opportunity to give them more of what they want? Make your readers kings and queens at your site! The products and services a publisher selects should fit the editorial line of the blog/site as much as possible; this ensures a true continuum between articles and promotional messages.

Complementary
The additional ad or sponsorship information has to bring in value to the overall content. Selling prestigious and prominent content space for money without considering the relevance of the sponsoring firm to the sponsored content is a wasted opportunity for both sides. Given that no one enjoys being distracted by brand x or product z when trying to find something unrelated — why not leverage this natural and reasonable defense mechanism and match sponsors to relevant events and content spaces? Why not allow sponsors to provide extra value to the content/event offered by providing access/integration to premium-quality complementary resources?

Visual unobtrusiveness - Non-interruptiveness
Sponsorships, text-based ads, promotional messages don’t have to scream for visual attention. If they complement and enrich what is already out there, they only need to be properly and intelligently juxtaposed, formatted and legible, scannable and printable, just like any other content on their hosting page. A site’s web developer should have full control over the layout and positioning of these items by using CSS.

Publisher Control
The publisher must be king (or queen)
This is what I think. It is the publisher and not the advertising agency or some obscure algorithm that should control which ads show up on my web pages. It should be the publisher who takes the role of information director in full; not just in respect to what is written, but also about what is promoted. Separation of editorial and marketing offices is not an advantage in the type of new-media universe I envision.Services like Blogads and the text-link clearinghouses facilitate this by allowing publishers to maintain full control of who are going to be their advertisers.
Google AdSense provides some control of which ads are displayed by letting publishers filter out up to 200 advertisers that may not complement their content. Ideally, as I have advocated, a publisher should be able to select from a large inventory of relevant and complementary advertisers in the ads he wants to carry.

Endorsement
A publisher should also in some way endorse the products she advertises as a way to provide value to her readers with such “recommendations.” I have repeatedly refused to be a well-paid affiliate reseller or advertiser for products that I didn’t believe in, while many times I have offered my space for free to companies and products which I thought deserved my readers’ attention (proof is available, if needed). A sense of personal ethics and editorial coherence is all it takes.

Which monetization strategy to use?

Diversify income streams
Don’t bet all your money on one horse and think like a coffee shop where money is made with many small transactions across a good variety of (generally low-cost) related offerings.

What I am learning is that you can make money by creating and cultivating multiple, small, income streams. Relying on one big source of income is always dangerous. If that resource disappears, so does your ability to survive.

Source here.

Blogger Blog Tip: Increase Your AdSense Revenue by Displaying AdSense Ads Within the Post content

One of the good features added in is the ‘Show Ads Between Posts’. With this feature, you can place your AdSense ad units between blog posts to increase your AdSense ad revenue. But, this optimization technique doesn’t actually increase much of the AdSense revenue.

There is a better way to boost your AdSense income. It is by placing your AdSense ad unit within your blog post. The AdSense unit can be in the top left, top right or just the end of your post content. This makes your AdSense ads easily noticed by visitors. The highly relevant AdSense ads showing up within your post content will catch the attention of your visitors. The visitors will become interested to click on your AdSense ad to find out what the advertiser is offering. And you will experience a nice increase of click through rate and AdSense earning.

But, Blogger doesn’t provide a feature or tool that lets you place your ads in various positions within your blog post. So, how you are going to do that?

The Blogger templates are now XML-based. To put in AdSense ads into your blog post, you must have a special technical knowledge. But don’t worry, it is not very difficult to learn it. Mydigitallife.info has published an article about this. The title of the article is ‘Place AdSense Ad Unit In Various Positions Inside Within Blogger Post Contents‘.

The article teaches you exactly what you need to do to get your ads displayed on the position you want within your blog post. It will involve copying your AdSense code and directly pasting it into your blog template.

When you implement this AdSense optimization technique, remember that you can only have a maximum of three AdSense ad units placed on a single page. Adding more than three ad units is against the program policies of AdSense.

Source: http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com

10 Ideas for Launching a Profitable Web Business

Setting up a website for many, is just a matter of fun; it is a place where family and friends exchange notes, information and niceties. However, with time, you the novice, would get bored with just playing post office and begin to think of how to use your website as a money making tool. This is when you would look for aspects that could improve the profitability of your website.

The profitability of your website depends upon two major aspects: (1) visibility to the surfer and (2) visibility to the search engines. Below are ten tips that would help you in your endeavor.

1. Create an easily (user-friendly) website - anyone who lands at your web site should be able to find their way around without too much clicking of the mouse or re-directs. In most cases, if your visitor does not get what they want in three clicks, the fourth click will be out of the website.

2. Offer valuable and qualitative freebies at regular intervals - let people know your website by its high quality freebies. You could give up-to-date information, coupons, discounts, reports, free advice, etc which is highly valued by your customers.

3. Content is king, use it to your advantage. There is nothing that can beat good content yet. Write articles, newsletters, press releases, etc. and submit these at as man directories you can.

4. Provide updates on your products - most of your customers would love to hear about updates on the product or service they normally use. Ensure that they are informed about it. Alert them with an email, which will prompt them, visit your web site.

5. Have the right buttons where they are visible. The “buy it now”, “contact us”, “email us”, “live chat”, “ask a quote” buttons should be extremely visible, accessible and always linked well.

6. Have adequate information on each product or service you provide. This would prevent unnecessary doubts, and also convince the customer to buy faster.

7. Ensure high security for payment and other financial transactions. Your customer needs to feel secure when they make payment. Enlist with the best security certificates so your customer is protected from any type of fraud.

8. Use bright and descriptive images. A picture is indeed worth a 1000 words. Remember, you can score double by indexing your picture with keyword names so the engines would read them correctly and use this for ranking.

9. Collect respectable links. Search engines attribute great value to websites linked well. Initially, use reciprocal links until you build quality content so you could link with high-end websites.

10. Constantly work at improving visibility. Whether it is SEO, building links, submitting articles with search engines, advertising for free or payment, and so on, you need to keep at it 24×7. In order to build traffic, you need to work initially almost non-stop.

All this and a lot of hard work until you get your website ranked on the top two SERP (search engine result pages) and you have had it made. It is said that about 75-80% of people find websites trough organic searches. These tips, plus continuous SEO, would get you there and bring you enough traffic to make your website as profitable as it could be.

How The Big Dogs Rake In The Bucks

Blogging is one of the best ways that you can start earning a living online. The reason for this is that it is very easy to get started and the main thing that you need to be good at is writing.

Now in this article I would like to go over over the techniques that the people who are very successful use with this method. These are people who are earning over $20,000 a month.

With blogging it really is easy to be earning $1,000 to $2,000 a month with the effort you put in. Basically all you need to do is write consistently and since the search engines love fresh content this this will attract free targeted traffic.

Now the big problem to earn the big amounts that the very successful people are earning is that you need to do this activity in a scalable fashion. This means getting ghost writers to do hundreds or thousands of articles for you a month.

You then also need people to manage your linking campaign for you. Getting good search engine rankings is all about getting quality one way links to your website. Submitting to web 2 sites like Digg can be very time consuming. These people that you outsource this tedious activity will do all the work for you like this and also any other form of acquiring one way links for example submitting to directories.

Once you learn this skill of outsourcing your efforts and becoming a project manager instead of doing the actual work you will find that your income will increase substantially. You need to be able to track your return on investment and and know how to use your money wisely.

How To Monetize A Blog Or Forum

Blogs and forums are ideal “traffic magnets” for a website. Your website’s visitors know that they are frequently updated, and that they are interactive, so they keep returning to “join the conversation.”

Search engines know that they are frequently updated, so search engine spiders frequent return to re-index their content. Properly configured blogs will “ping” the search engines and directories each time that they are posted to, constantly calling the search engine spiders back.

Since blogs and forums even come pre-installed in C-panel on many hosting accounts, getting a website going can be as simple as registering a domain name, hosting it at a host that offers C-panel, and with just a few clicks of a button, selecting the blogging or forum platform that you want to use.

You can even customize the look and feel of that blog or forum later if you want to. That way, you can literally have a website up and running in UNDER an hour. All that you need to do is make the blog or forum your homepage, and your site is literally ready for the world!

The big question has always been, how do you then earn revenue from that blog or forum. Here are some options that I use and recommend:

1) Use your blog or forum to build a niche mailing list that you then market to via email. Simply post a subscription form right into the html code of the blog or forum that invites your visitors to join your mailing list. If they enjoy the content on your blog or forum, many visitors will subscribe. You’ll build a mailing list fairly effortless over time.

If you’re really lazy, that mailing list subscription can be to an “evergreen” newsletter. That is, you can write, or have written, a series of email messages that each new subscriber gets in sequence when they sign up. Put together 52 issues that are scheduled to go out once a week, or 24 issues that are set to go out every 2 weeks, and you have a newsletter that essentially “runs itself” for a year.

Each issue of your newsletter could contain: a simple article, an editorial, and a product recommendation. It doesn’t have to be any more difficult than that.

I write each issue of my newsletter fresh, but do know people who use the “evergreen model.” They simple set the autoresponder sequence to start over again when the last issue is reached, then they periodically add new issues to the series or revise outdated issues.

If you’d like to see how I’ve integrated a subscribe box right into my blog, you can check it out at: http://WillieCrawford.com/blog/

With a newsletter, the most often missed point is that you DO need to sell your subscribers on signing up. You do need to give them a compelling reason, assure them that you’ll protect their data, and instruct them on exactly how to signup.

2) Use your blog or forum to sell affiliate products. This can be as simple as putting graphics and product recommendations right into your menu bar. I do that on my blog at the url above.

On my blog, I now sell affiliate products that pay me 50 to 100% commission, and that pay me instantly. If you check out my blog at the url above, you’ll notice an animated 150 x 600 banner that advertises several products.

When a website visitor clicks on that banner and buys one of those products I earn 100% commission, and it’s instantly deposited directly to my Paypal account. Not only do I earn a steady stream of commissions from my blogs and forums, but I don’t have to wait on slow-paying affiliate programs.

The banner on my blog is called “Niche Widget” and is was added to my blog simply by copying and pasting a tiny bit of code into the webpage. It will work on ANY blog, forum, or webpage, even on your Faceback or YouTube (or other social networking websites) webpages.

In fact, adding the Niche Widget to sites like Facebook or YouTube is as simple as clicking on the Widget where it says “Grab This Widget.” This prompts you to log into any of over a dozen social networking sites and AUTOMATICALLY add the widget to your profile. However, that is primarily designed to send your widget viral, and have lots of others passing along YOUR affiliate link. To get paid you need to click on the link that says “Make Money With It!”

What could be easier?

With Niche widget you can choose from a variety of niches ranging from pets, to relationships, to marketing, to food, or health, and the widget will display ads paying you from 50 - 100% on products related to that niche. The database has over 2000 different digital product in it.

To get the Niche Widget absolutely free, you just visit http://Niche-Widgets.com and sign up. There are premium accounts, but you can go with the free account if desired. The difference is that premium accounts pay higher commissions and pay you a percentage of sales on free accounts when others sign up through you.

With the premium account, when someone who signs up through you earns 50% commission, you earn 25% commission, and the owner on Niche Widgets earns the other 25%.

I really like the system. It was earning me MORE than Google AdSense the very first day that I installed it.

3) Google AdSense or other pay per click programs. You register for one of these accounts, insert the code into your page, and then you basically “sell your targeted traffic.”

The AdSense code displays related ads on your blog or forum, and then when someone clicks on an ad, that advertise pays Google for the traffic, and Google pays you an undisclosed percentage of that advertiser’s payment (for each click generated).

This was at one time my favorite revenue model because it required very little work. You simply insert the code into your webpages, blogs, forums, etc., and then someone else finds the advertises who pay you. However, after only a little testing, and noticing a higher revenue stream, I AM replacing AdSense on most of my site with Niche Widget. You can get that again at: http://Niche-Widgets.com

4) Your own products. If you have your own products, you can market those directly from your blog or forum just as you do affiliate products. For example, I have both a blog and a forum on my soul food recipes site. On both the blog and the forum, I run an ad for a cookbook that I wrote and sell copies of EVERYDAY.

Since I know that many of my repeat visitors already own my cookbook, I also use to run Google AdSense ads, but now use the Niche Widget.

The Niche Widget displays rotating ads for other cooking related digital products… mainly cookbooks.

5) Product Reviews. It also makes perfect sense to write reviews of products and services related to your niche and then post those on your blogs or forums. I do that by writing reviews and posting related articles on my blogs and forums.

This works because the reviews, or articles, containing niche specific keywords let the search engines know to rank my blogs or forums highly for those keywords. This content (these reviews) posted regularly, are what call the search engine spiders back time after time to keep re-indexing my sites.

I’ve just outlined five ways that you can monetize a blog or forum. On many of my sites, the blog or forum is EASILY the most visited page on the entire site. Visitors will often visit the blog or forum on your site repeatedly, and NEVER venture off the blog or forum to check out the other sections of your site.

Therefore, if you do want to earn a living from your website, it is critical that you use proven effective ways to monetize your blogs and forums. I’ve just given you FIVE that earn thousands of dollars per month for me.

How to add snow effect to blogspot or website

You are having a nice site, but want some snow effect for it for christmas ?

<*script* src="http://snow-effect.googlecode.com/files/snow.js" type="text/javascript">
/***********************************************
* Snow Effect without images-by Kurt Grigg at http://www.btinternet.com/~kurt.grigg/javascript
* Script featured & available at Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/
* Please keep this notice intact
***********************************************/
<*/script*>

Add this code after tag or simply in a post , but remove the * from <*script* <*/script*>

Another way to make maney

Get Pay to Sign up and Take Online Survey

You can join Treasuretrooper.com free and earn money by signing up companies offers and referring new members. As most of the offers are from US companies so many of the paid to sign up opportunities are available to American only. People who live outside US can still earn money through the refer a friend program and fill out some low-paid offers.
Low-paid offers usually are free to sign up whereas high-paid offers generally require you to include credit card detail during the process of sign up. Your earning will depend on the number of free offers completed and your referral. If you can complete 5 cash offers daily, you should be earning more than $20.00 per month. The more you sign up the higher your earning. Completing offers isn't a difficult job (an easy task actually) some members said that it is fun doing it. They will pay you when the earning exceeds $20.00.

You can also do a search from search engines to see what others are commenting about this website before taking any action. I can't guarantee that you will make money joing Treasuretrooper.com but with their good history records and on-time paying status, you can consider joing them if you are looking for a way to make extra money online.

Blogging Is Your Best Marketing Tool

Blogging isn't hard.

People see it as a massive investment of time but it's not really. If you're willing to invest time in a networking meeting then you can invest time in a blog because it's essentially the same thing. Presumably you go along to a networking meeting to meet people and let them know what a fab person you are? Because if they like you then they'll trust you and if they trust you then they'll buy from you, right?

Right. So you talk about your business a bit, perhaps take the opportunity to discuss a new product you're working on and share some funny anecdotes about something or other. Then leave the room with everyone thinking that you're a great person and fun to spend some time with. Mission accomplished.

Blogging for your business is pretty much the same except that the other person doesn't interrupt and you have more time to think up clever and witty things to impress people with. With your blog, you get a chance to put a human face to your business. You only have a few paragraphs on your core website to explain your business but with your blog you have months of posts for people to dip into to get a feel for your company.

What a great opportunity to earn the trust of people you've never even met. They come to your website and there's this great person writing really interesting stuff and sharing insights into this subject that he's a real expert on. Perhaps they'll come back each day or subscribe to your feed to see what you have to say. And if at some point they need to buy whatever you're selling then they're definitely going to come to you instead of your competitor - that really cold faceless business run by robots.

Still not convinced?

Don't be mistaken into thinking that it's not worthwhile if you don't have hundred of avid readers of your blog. If you keep all of your posts on your website then random browsers to your website will have a wealth of information to jump into. You're building their trust using stuff that you've written months ago.

And if they like what they see then they'll come back. And visitors that come back turn into customers eventually. And customers generate repeat business. And referrals. Surely it's starting to make sense now?

No? OK, one last shot.

You're generating a new page for your website every single time you post something. Who likes websites with lots of relevant content that gets updated frequently? Go on, take a guess...

Google will love you if you start blogging. If you write interesting stuff then people will link to it and Google will love you even more. Suddenly your website is more popular than ever and more people are visiting and more people are buying and it's just turning into one great big party with you at the centre of it.

OK, perhaps it won't be quite that dramatic but you must take the long term view when it comes to your approach to blogging. Don't write a couple of entries and then give up. Keep at it, keep producing new content and invest time in it as you would any other marketing activity. When it does all kick off then you'll be glad that you have that wealth of information sitting there for your website visitors to delve into.

How to Make Money and Rank #1 With Blogs

So, I'm sure the secret is out that blogs are the best thing to use to make money on the internet these days. Blogs are easy to create, fun to use and can really help out your search engine rankings. Another plus about blogs is that whenever you want to make a change to your blog you only have to use a template and delete from there as apposed to going through the whole changing process with a regular website.

Today, I would like to share with you some of the ways that you can make money with blogs and how to rank them well in the search engines as well. Hopefully after you are done reading this article you will be able to set up a perfect blog to start making money with and have it ranked in the search engines in no time!

The first thing you want to do is find a good niche that you can make your blog about. The main purpose of having a blog is to give others information on things that you know about or learn about. Blogs should always be informative because this is what the business is about. When you choose a niche, start with one that has low competition that way you won't get frustrated with trying to get your blog to rank well in the search engines. Once you find the perfect formula on how to get your blog ranked then you can move onto a more popular niche.

Once you get your blog set up with content that is about your niche you are then ready to start bringing traffic towards it. It can really be frustrating trying to get so much traffic to your blog because you never know which way is going to work the best for you. The method that I use that works great is article marketing. You can get benefits from it in two different ways and that is with traffic and backlinks. You will need backlinks in order to rank high in the search engines. The more backlinks you have the higher the search engine ranking you will have.

The best way to use article marketing is by making a good author resource box. Don't write a story about your self or anything because people have short attention spans these days. Make sure that your links back to your blog are in your author resource box with anchor texts. Make sure that you use the main keyword you are trying to rank well for in the anchor text.

Its best to constantly keep your blog updated and ping it as it will get indexed very quickly. With the methods above, I am sure that you won't have a problem getting your blog ranked well in the search engines in less then a month.

The "buy it now", "contact us", "email us", "live chat", "ask a quote" buttons should be extremely visible, accessible and always linked well.

Whether it is SEO, building links, submitting articles with search engines, advertising for free or payment, and so on, you need to keep at it 24x7.

How The Heck Do You Make Money Online?

This article delves into the various ways to make money online. When I first started surfing around on the net 15 or so odd years ago I had no idea that I could actually make money online. But a few years ago as I read more and more stories about the dot com explosion, and eventual collapse, and heard stories about overnight millionaires and slow but steady millionaires I figured "hey if they can do it, why can't I"? And so began my quest into making money on the internet. Surprisingly enough I found that there were basically 3 ways to make money online.

1 ) Sell your own stuff
2 ) Sell other peoples stuff
3 ) Sell ads on your site

Now obviously there are many variations on the above 3 items...but those are basically the main ways to make money online. So if you break those 3 things down you come up with the following options.

1 ) Sell your own stuff.

This can be accomplished in quite a few ways. eBay is one way, cleaning out your attic or garage and putting your stuff up for sale. Purchasing discount or closeout items and selling them on eBay. Creating your own product, crafts, artwork, info products, the latest greatest mousetrap, etc., and then selling it on eBay. You can sell almost anything on eBay, ( I believe body parts are out of the question in case anyone's thinking about selling their extra kidney or anything like that). 8 ) But eBay is only one avenue to sell your stuff.

You can put up a website of your own, or utilize something like eBay stores or PayPal Shops, or any of a number of other storefront options available on the web for setting up shop and selling your stuff.

The main benefit to this option is you pretty much get to keep all the profits for yourself, (unless you are offering affiliate partners a share of the profits), so all the money make you get to keep yourself. And you have complete control of the product you are selling, no worries about whether or not the product is worthwhile or a some junk someone is trying to pawn off on unsuspecting customers.

The main drawback to this is more work. You have to create, buy, or find whatever it is you are going to sell. You have to ship it or make it available for download, or however it is you are going to get your stuff to the buyer. You have to set up a website or pay someone to create your site if you are selling from your own website. You have to deal with customer support, refunds, etc. So in a nutshell more work...but more $$$.

2) Sell other peoples stuff.

This is probably one of the easiest ways to make money online. You can become an affiliate marketer, you advertise somebody's product for them, direct customers to their site, the customer purchases said product, and you get paid a commission from the seller. You don't have to deal with product development, customer complaints, payment processing, etc. All you do is drive traffic to the vendors site and collect your share of the money when they buy.

This is probably the easiest way for newcomers to start out making money online. When you are first starting out you usually don't have a website, or a list to promote and sell to, or a product, or anything actually except a desire to figure out how the heck to make money online! So affiliate marketing is usually a good choice to "get your feet wet" so to speak and start generating an income online

3) Sell other peoples ads on your site.

This is probably one of the hardest ways to make money online in my opinion. At least initially. To be able to sell ad space on your own site you are going to need a pretty large traffic count coming to your site to be able to charge any kind of money for ad space. You are going to be hard pressed to convince anyone to pay any kind of real money to advertise on your website if you don't have a few thousand people dropping by your site on a regular basis.

Ads and affiliate marketing are 2 ways to generate money on your blog, and if you can generate enough interest on a topic on your blog you could start getting a good base of traffic coming to your blog. But even with a good topic it's going take a while to generate enough traffic to start selling ad space on your blog.

So there you have it. Now you just have to decide which way you want to go. Get out there and do some research into the different venues and see which one appeals to you. Ideally you would eventually branch out into all 3 ways. Remember multiple streams of income is the way to go. You don't want to rely on just one thing if you are looking to replace your daily 9-5 grind with an income from the internet.

3 Ways To Generate an Internet Income

If your dream is to build a sustainable business that just gives you an ever-increasing income every month, then read on. I'll make this article worth your while.

Personally, I know of 3 ways to generate a sustainable and growing Internet income. Thousands of entrepreneurs use these strategies to create Internet business empires that they can rely on for their rice bowl, and then some. Here are your 3 ways:

1. List Building

When you have a mailing list of subscribers, you have a dependable source of income right there. You can mail them relevant offers and information to build a relationship, and even offer coaching programs. Coaching programs are the ultimate because you can often command fees of up to a $1000 or more per client once you have built up a reputation.

2. Membership Sites

A membership site is always a great way to create residual income online. Instead of making one-time sales, now you are getting instant repeat customers. Your customers will get charged automatically monthly and this is hands-off money in your bank every month! You can easily create a membership payment plan in Paypal or even through Clickbank nowadays.

3. Ebook Publishing

Ebooks are awesome products to sell because you only need to create them one time and they are done! You can keep selling them over and over again and you don't even have to ship anything.

As you can see, the above business models concentrate on selling information. Simply because information is the hottest commodity to sell! There's tons of free information online, but believe it or not, people don't want to find all the answers the hard way, they want it all in a neat package they can devour in 30 minutes and get started.

Make Money Online - Opportunities For Success

How do you measure success?

Do you ever dream of being successful? What pictures come to mind when you see yourself as a successful person? How do you rate success? Individuals who are asked these questions will reply in different ways. They may consider success as being able to be your own boss? Perhaps you think of success as having plenty of money. Other individuals consider themselves successful when they can spend time with family doing fun activities. Maybe you prefer to work different hours than the corporate world provides. All of these measurements for success can be met when you make money online.

Be your own boss

Often a person who is dissatisfied with a job in the corporate world will blame their dissatisfaction on the actions and words of the supervisor, manager or owner of the business. For an individual who resents the attitude of the boss, the epitome of successful living may be not having to answer to an unpleasant or unreasonable boss. When you are successful in your efforts to make money online, you are the person in charge. You set your hours and work scope. You do the job site planning both physically and in terms of scheduling the tasks to be done.

Meet your financial goals

When you make money online, you may plan to work full time at a corporate job and supplement your income by working online. Or you may decide to cut all ties with your former workplace and rely totally on your online income. With planning and self-direction you can certainly achieve your financial goals without driving off to work each day. You may be able to reduce some regular expenses when you work online. Because you can work as much or as little as necessary to achieve your financial goals, you will be successful in your endeavors. Whether you are rich or just comfortable, is a picture of success that you determine.

Enjoy your family life

Many individuals regard being able to spend time with their family as being the measurement that they equate with a successful life. When you make money online, usually from a home office or workshop, you will certainly have more time at home. Even if you just spend the time that would have been spent commuting doing family based activities, you will typically gain several hours each week which can be put to better use. If you de-stress yourself you'll be a lot more fun to be around and your kids will consider you a successful parent.

Set your working schedule

The internet runs 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week, and you can set your working hours to suit your own internal time clock. If you make money online, your best customers may be half a world away and so, as a night owl, you can consider your schedule a sign of success. You can work the hours that best suit your lifestyle. Work online while your teenagers are off at school or sports practice. Maybe you are at your best first thing in the morning before the rest of the household is up and running.

Get Paid to Write Reviews on Your Blog

There are several relatively easy ways to make some money from your blog such as using Google AdSense, selling private ad spots, and writing reviews. The downside with using Google AdSense and trying to sell private ad spots is your blog must have enough traffic to generate the clicks or page impressions. My guess is most of you aren’t getting hundreds of visitors to your blog each day (not yet at least) so you aren’t making much money from those methods of advertising.

So where does that leave us? If you haven’t heard of writing reviews on your blog to generate a decent stream of income then you might want to check it out.

How does writing reviews make me money?

It’s actually easier than you think. The first step is to sign up with a blog review network and submit your blog. Some of these companies have rules in place like the age of your blog (at least 6 months old, etc), where it’s hosted (blogspot, wordpress, etc), and page rank. They try to weed out spam blog sites which are usually not very old or of good quality. Make sure you read the fine print before you spend your time applying only to find out you don’t qualify.

Assuming your blog is approved, you can now browse the review marketplace looking for reviews to write about or another option is to wait for someone to approach you. I recommend you be the aggressor and sift through the marketplace so you can start making money asap.

Once you find a review you’d like to write about and meet the criteria to qualify, just take it and begin. You’ll create your blog post and follow the requirements of the reviewer, then submit it for approval. After it’s approved, you get paid. Pretty easy huh?

What blog review networks do you recommend?

There are several companies out there who pay you to write reviews on your blog but only two of them are worth talking about in my opinion. They are Sponsored Reviews and Pay Per Post.

Sponsored Reviews is great because they allow you to search for advertisers directly and bid on jobs. Their bidding system allows you to negotiate rates with advertisers in order to maximize your earnings. They also provide the largest payout of all review networks by only taking a 35% commission for their services. That means you can earn anything from $10 to 500+ for each review. Their user interface is one of the better ones out there and the only drawback to their service is the lack of advertisers. I’m sure it will continue to grow it’s advertising base so they are at least worth a look.

One other perk is their affiliate program. Earn up to $175 per Advertiser and $90 Per Blogger referred. Payouts are based on money spent by the advertiser and money earned by the blogger. See the chart below for payouts. Their average advertiser spends several hundred dollars so most referrals will be worth at least $25 (according to their website).

You’ll then want to put one of their ads on your site or a text link to start taking advantage of their referral bonuses. Can’t hurt to get an ad on your blog right? Get started with Sponsored Reviews now.

Next up we have PayPerPost which is another great pay for review site. They offer the largest sponsored blogging network with the greatest amount of offers along with a forum where bloggers can post questions, etc. They also pay you a $20 bonus after you complete your first review post. The review post is easy…you just need to write about PayPerPost and they give you $20. Pretty quick way to make a quick $20.

One bad thing I noticed while browsing their marketplace is the restrictions on a few of the reviews. For example, you couldn’t write a review and post it on blogspot.com, wordpress.com, or myspace.com and you must be located in North America, Asia, or Europe only. That doesn’t mean if you have a blogger blog or wordpress blog using your own domain or hosted on your own site you can’t write a review. All I’m saying is make sure you read the review details carefully so you don’t waste your time writing a post only to discover you won’t get credit for it.

They also have a scoring system which might be a barrier to you on some post reviews. It’s usually the higher payouts that are looking for nice reviews from established high ranking sites. They utilize Google Page Rank and Amazon’s Alexa rankings to factor in what your site’s “score” will be.

PayPerPost also offers a referral affiliate program with some pretty nice payouts as well. You will get paid $15 for each referral once the referees first blog posting is reviewed, approved and then finally accepted 30 days later. This means they need to go all the way through the process in order for it to be a legit referral. Again, not a bad payout for just putting a banner or link on your blog. It’s cool because you can see which referrals you currently have signed up and the total amount you potentially could earn (assuming they convert all the way mentioned above).

Summary

If I were you, I’d sign up for both Sponsored Reviews and PayPerPost and see which one works best for you. There is no rule preventing you from having two accounts and writing reviews from both sites and you can promote whichever you choose. That’s what I did and it also gives you a bigger selection of available reviews to write. After you sign up, make sure you get some affiliate banners on your blog so you have another avenue to make money. Just imagine if you write a dozen or so reviews a month and get a couple referrals. You could easily earn a few hundred extra bucks a month for some pretty minimal work!

I wish these sort of sites were available when I was in college because I had tons of free time and needed to make money. I could have easily earned $500+ a month writing a couple reviews a day!

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our eBlog Templates RSS feed. Webmasters are paid a portion of the revenue which Google collects from advertisers each time a web site visitor clicks on an AdSense advertisement.

Each click may pay anywhere from a few cents to several dollars. The average click seems to be worth about $.20. The more clicks AdSense advertisers receive from your web pages, the more money you make.

The basic formula for thinking about revenue from Google AdSense is:

Revenue = (Impressions * CTR * CPC)

The methods of increasing your revenue from Google AdSense are:

* Increase Impressions
* Increase Click-Through-Ratio (CTR)
* Increase Cost-Per-Click (CPC)

Increase Impressions

The most basic method of increasing your number of impressions is to increase the traffic to your web site.

The topic of increasing traffic to your web site is beyond the scope of this article, and most likely something you are already working on.

One technique for increasing the number of Google AdSense impressions without an increase in traffic to your web site is to motivate your users to enable JavaScript. Google AdSense ads require JavaScript. Visitors to your website who do not have JavaScript enabled in their browsers will not see your Google AdSense ads.

To encourage your users to enable JavaScript, create content for your web page which is only available via JavaScript. Implement browser JavaScript detection in your HTML to notify visitors without JavaScript enabled that they are only receiving a portion of your available content.

Increase Click-Through-Ratio (CTR)

A small increase in Click-Through-Ratio can mean a large increase in revenue. A rise from a CTR of 1.0 to a CTR of 1.1 should mean an increase in revenue of 10%.

Several on-page factors can influence your Click-Through-Ratio. These factors include:

* Ad placement
* Ad color
* Ad unit style
* Total number of links

Ad placement

The best location to place ads is wherever the web site visitor will be looking.

Open up your web page. Where on the page does your eye immediately focus? Place an ad there.

The best performing ads seem to be ads which are inline with content. However, it can be very challenging to place inline ads across entire web sites.

Placing ads across an entire web site is usually accomplished with Shared HTML (shtml) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). This effectively limits ads to appearing in the same locations across a wide range of web pages.

Ads On the Top of the Page

Ads in the page header perform moderately well. The location is a good one to catch a visitors eye. However, many web users have developed a condition known as "ad blindness" where their brains automatically skip over advertisements.

One technique to reduce ad blindness is to place the advertisement below the page header and as far into the content space as possible. If your content space can be divided into multiple sections, this may work well for you.

Ads On the Bottom of the Page

Ads at the bottom of the page perform poorly. Web site visitors tend to read a page from the top down, and may never reach the bottom of the page. In addition, web site visitors have many different browser sizes, which may cause them to never see the advertisement unless they scroll down to it.

Ads On the Right Side of the Page

Ads on the right side of the page perform moderately well, and are currently in vogue. They appear to perform slightly better than ads on the top of the page at the current time, most likely due to better resilience to ad blindess.

When using ads on the right side of the page, it is important to test your web page at several different screen resolutions in several different web browers. Your web pages should automatically resize to ensure that the advertisements do not scroll outside of the browser window or get "bumped" down below the content.

Internet Explorer appears to have a bug which can cause right side ads to be "bumped" down below the content if the total width of all sections of the web page is equal to 100%. To work around this bug, ensure that the total width of your web page is 96% or less.

Ads On the Left Side of the Page

Ads on the left side of the page may perform the best. The left side of the page is normally reserved for the web site menu. This means that users frequently look to the left side of the page.

The difficulty is determining where to place your web site menu when the left side of the page is no longer available to you. A top menu might work for you, depending upon the design and content of your web site. Placing your menu on the right side of the page is another option, but one that may confuse some web site visitors.

If Google allows more than one ad unit per page in the future, the left side of the page might become an excellent location for a single ad, either above or below the menu.

Ad Color

Many webmasters report that brightly colored ads which contrast sharply with the color scheme of the rest of the web page return excellent results for them.

My experience has been that ads which mimic the look and feel of the rest of my web page return the best results. This is most likely because the Google AdSense ads closely relate to the topic of the page and therefore appear to the visitor as additional content.

Ad Unit Style

The Google AdSense programs offers a wide variety of ad unit styles and sizes. The ad unit styles include:

Ad Unit Dimensions
Leaderboard 728x90
Banner 486x60
Half Banner 234x60
Button 125x125
Skyscraper 120x600
Wide Skyscraper 160x600
Medium Rectangle 300x250
Large Rectangle 336x280
Small Rectangle 180x150
Square 250x250

Leaderboard and Banner ad units are obvious choices to placement in page headers and footers. Leaderboards are preferable, because they are able to show more ads. Banners are a classic web format, and may be necessary where the width of your available space is limited.

Skyscrapers are an excellent choice for advertisements, because they appear to be less vulnerable to ad blindness than the horizontal ad formats. Google recently added the wide skyscraper format. This new ad unit displays one more ad than the classic 120x600 skyscraper unit. If you are currently using the 120x600 skyscrapers, switching to the new wide skyscraper format may increase your revenue from the Google AdSense program.

Rectangles, Squares, and Buttons are best used when placed inside a content area. This makes rectangles more difficult to place, but also gives then the best revenue potential.

Total Number of Links

Reducing the total number of links on your content pages can increase revenue from AdSense by reducing the options for a visitor.

If your web page has fifteen links and one AdSense wide skyscraper on it, the visitor has a total of twenty options for leaving your page without closing the browser window.

This means that, if the user clicks on a link, the random odds that the visitor will click on an AdSense link are 5 in 20.

If you reduce the number of other links on the page to 5, the total number of options presented to the user is now 10. This means that the random odds of a user selecting an AdSense ad are now 5 in 10.

Another option, but one which may annoy your web site visitors, is to open all external links in a new window. This will leave your page open in the users browser, giving them another opportunity to click on an AdSense link. This can be done by adding target="_new" to your HTML links, or by converting your outbound links to JavaScript.

It should be noted that Google AdSense never opens ads in a new window.

Test, Test and Test Again

Testing is the key to increasing your CTR percentages. Change your ad colors, wait a week and look at the stats. Do the same with different ad units and different ad placement.

Increase Cost-Per-Click (CPC)

Not all Google AdSense ads are created equal. Google AdWords advertisers bid for keyword combinations, and some combinations are much more expensive than others.

The Google AdSense robot, Mediabot, automatically scans your web pages and determines the appropriate ads to display on your page.

It is possible to create web pages which are designed specifically to attract certain keywords from the Google AdSense program.

To determine which keywords have a higher Cost-Per-Click, create a Google Adwords account in the Google AdWords advertiser interface . This will enable you to determine roughly what AdWords advertisers are paying for each keyword combinatiom.

Based upon this information, you may decide to create a new web page or a whole new web site.

AdSense Alternate Ads

Google AdSense is not always able to find an advertisement which matches the content of your web page. Normally, AdSense selects a Public Service Ad (PSA) and displays it in your ad space. These PSA's generate no revenue for you.

Google has created the ability to load an alternate ad when it cannot find a matching ad. This is accomplished by setting a variable called google_alternate_ad_url in your AdSense layout code:

google_alternate_ad_url = "/adsense-alternate-ad.shtml";

These alternate ads can include advertisements from Google AdSense competitors , such as Clicksor.

This capability enables you to tap into a revenue stream which would normally by lost to AdSense PSAs.

Future Improvements to AdSense which will Increase Revenue to You

Google is constantly improving the AdSense program. Many of these improvements will mean additional revenue in your pocket.

Google has recently improved the speed with which MediaBot accesses new web pages. This means that you start earning revenue more quickly.

Google is constantly working to improve the relevancy of AdSense ads. Ads which are more relevant are more likely to be clicked on by web site visitors.

Google is currently working to give webmasters the ability to place multiple AdSense ad units on the same web page. This will enable the webmaster to place five small single-ad units around the web page, instead of one wide skyscraper. This should considerably reduce losses from ad blindness.

Myspace introduction

It's official. MySpace is the most popular stop for members having lots of time on their hands. But who cares that the social-networking behemoth is so popular if it isn't making any money?

Not only is MySpace America's most popular social-networking site, having earned 79.9 percent of the market in June according to a Hitwise study released this week, but it is also America's most popular Web site, representing 4.46 percent of all Internet traffic.

But some in the industry are saying even such popularity is not enough to make social-networking sites viable business models.

Steve Mansfield, CEO of social search engine PreFound.com, has been watching MySpace and the rest of the social-networking market.

"Rupert Murdoch is apparently pounding his fist on the desk over at MySpace, saying 'How can we turn these hundred million people into more money?'" he told internetnews.com .

He said Murdoch's MySpace problem starts with banner advertising, which is the only type of ad the site runs on member profiles.

"That is the least profitable way to advertise as a Web site. You're not able to charge a whole lot of money."

Banner ads don't make a Web site as much money as a sponsored link on a search results page.

Sponsored links lead directly to a business's Web site, whereas banner advertisers are only supposed to make an "impression" on a visitor.

Compounding the problem is the fact that MySpace doesn't even get the lucrative blue-chip brand advertisers to buy those banner ads despite the fact that its member demographic is the young and malleable crowd after which marketers lust.

But blue chippers stay away for a good reason. And it's embodied in the profile of MySpace member Forbidden. Her page is the sort of user-generated content that keeps meticulous brand managers awake at night because of its unbridled nature.

Let's just say you're not going to find a Ford ad next to her comments section anytime soon.

Beyond banner ads

So how does MySpace get away from banner ads and into the real money? The way Google did, Mansfield said.

The same way, he added, Google assures advertisers they will be placed in a precise context of their choosing (and not next to the raucous comments on Forbidden's page). The same way Google ties the ads they sell more closely to an advertiser's bottom line.

MySpace should monetize by selling sponsored search results, Mansfield said.

Of course that means MySpace would have to start offering Web search, but then there is the question of whether social networks can come up with any kind of competitive search product.

This is where the "social" in social search comes in.

What is social search, again?

Social search is best defined by its differences from the algorithmic search found on sites such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Instead of sending computer crawlers out across the Internet to catalog the content of every page, social search engines build their database of Web pages by having members tag them with searchable keywords.

A user could tag an article about New York Mets starting pitcher Tom Glavine with terms such as "Mets," "New York," "MLB," Baseball," "Tom Glavine," or "Best team in baseball." The site would then be added to the search engine's catalogue of Web pages.

Then, when another member searches for "Mets" and "Tom Glavine," the page would likely appear as one of the results among the many other pages tagged by other users with the same keywords.

Algorithmic search would instead rifle through the search engine's database of Web sites to find those that actually had the words "Tom Glavine" and "Mets" on the page itself.

It's worked for Google so far. But Mansfield says social search can do more.

Social search is handy for users because sometimes what a Web site is about isn't on the page.

A tagging enthusiast at Harvard likes to point out that the terms "detective," "novel" and "1930s" aren't always found in 1930s detective novels.

Social searchers' results also tend to be useful because someone had to bother to recommend, or tag, the pages included in the returns.

The more members out there tagging and searching, the larger the database of Web sites to search, the more likely search results will be relevant and useful.

So the appeal for Mansfield in powering his search engine with a social network such as MySpace is obvious.

Suddenly he would be able to offer searchers relevant and useful results, a commodity Google has proven to be valuable.

But what's in it for MySpace?

Sponsored links and demographic data

Mansfield said you can sell social search to a social network by using the profile information of the hundred million people in MySpace to weight a search.

"Since we know who you are, we know where you live, we know how old you are, and we know what your interests are, we can give you a hyper-relevant search based on all that information."

Social network owners can show members addicted to their service contextually related sponsored links next to "hyper-relevant" search results.

The rest would be history. And perhaps Mr. Murdoch would be able to give his desk a rest. The money's already there in your social network, Rupert. You just have to search for it.

Benefits of AdSense

One of the most impressive advantages of AdSense is that Google has a huge database of advertisers that are looking for space. Because of this huge base of advertisers, AdSense can provide you with a steady stream of advertisers that can match just about any type of content that you can think of. Advertisers are segregated based on product, service, geography, and company size. This helps to both provide local advertisement opportunities to companies, as well as provide your site with relevant content.

Another no cost benefit that AdSense offers is the use of their Google search box technology. You can add this feature to your website, which will encourage visitors to stay at your website longer, and it will encourage them to return to your site. You can even earn money from this technology. When a visitor enters a keyword or keywords the results appear in a box at the top of your web page. You earn money for every ad that they click on that was generated from their search.

In addition to these benefits you also are able to control what kinds of ads that you want displayed on your website. You can filter out ads from specific company genres, and you can also filter out companies that compete with what you are trying to sell. You can also design the look of the ads that are displayed on your website. You can choose their color pallet, layout, and size of the ads that are displayed, and where they appear on your website. Finally, you can customize your AdSense to run on only certain pages of your website. All of these options allow you to stay in control of how AdSense is displayed to your customers.

Adsense sites need planning and work to be successful. If you are thinking of producing sites for adsense income, or perhaps you already have sites that are not producing a good income if any.

To be successful, takes a lot of work no matter what you may read because there are so many people promoting products that promise to make adsense income easy.

Well some of these products may help, but there is no simple solution to receiving great income quickly.

Extensive planning is required before you start. It is important to carefully consider the topics or niches that will be targeted. It is very important to see what type of competition there is for certain niches.

If you are beginning with your adsense sites, it is better to start with niches that are not too competitive. The reasons for this are that in any niche it will take time to get traffic to the sites and make money.

Extensive keyword research must be carried out before building new sites. It is far better to target say 20 keywords that are not at the top of the keyword results.

Many newcomers make the mistake of seeing the high prices that certain words achieve, but do not realise what is involved to compete with these words.

So choose 20 related words to the main keyword, and then build a page for each of these sub keywords. It is very important to have closely themed sites as well, meaning that you are not trying to offer information on a variety of subjects.

Search engines are now looking for sites that offer their visitors good quality information following the keyword searches entered.

It is also important to have sites that are easy to navigate, so that visitors are able to find what they are looking for easily. Clear navigation linking is essential.

Another point to remember is that search engines will reward sites that are constantly updated with new content. It is best to work to a plan with new sites that allow new content to be added on a weekly basis.

Incoming links to sites are very important to achieve good rankings in the search engines. There is only so much on site optimisation that can be done. This includes different keywords and descriptions for each page, use of H1, H2, H3 tags etc.

It is essential that good quality original content is offered to visitors. Due to the abuse that occurred in the past where many people were using various software to produce hundreds of pages of worthless content in literally a matter of minutes to try to make money with adsense.

It is a good idea to work on getting links back to sites on a weekly basis also. Another good idea is to register with directories also on a regular basis.

Adsense can be a good source of income, but it involves a lot of work before the results appear. Extensive research must be carried out to check competition. It is vital to do thorough keyword testing. Then produce sites that are closely themed with a separate page for each targeted keyword. Then new content and links must be on the agenda for good adsense results.

More Visitor with Blogs

Blogs (short for web logs) are not only free and easy to create, but they can be awesome traffic generating tools if you use and promote them properly.

If you haven't learned by now, the key to building free search engine traffic is to get as many related, high-quality sites to point back to yours. Search engines like Google take this into great consideration when ranking your website.

You can create your own blog that can act as that "related website" to point to your own, and in the long run your blog can not only attract its own traffic, but will help you build traffic to your main site.

My Blog Example
I have website creation blog that I created on Blogger.com where I offer tips and tricks on website creation and promotion that may not be found on this site.

As I add new content, this blog suddenly becomes a website of its own because Blogger.com creates a new page each time you add a new entry.

As I mentioned before, search engines look for related websites that link back to you, so I link the blog back to my main site's homepage to help with search engine rankings. It's sort of like a "vote" for my main website.

Use Blogger.com
There are a lot of good, free blog hosts out there but I chose to use Blogger.com because I like that each new post creates a search-engine friendly web page.

It's easy to use and they offer a lot of cool features such as visitor comments, customizable templates, archiving options and more.

Let People Subscribe to Your Blog Feeds
Another benefit of creating a blog is that people can actually subscribe to it. You may have heard of RSS feeds (RSS stands for really simple syndication). It's a growing Internet trend where people can receive updates/feeds from their favorite sites all in one place.

They use a reader (or the Firefox browser) which allows them to manage and browse all their feeds at once.

So let's say you subscribe to CNN.com and USAToday.com's news headline and sports feeds. You can open up your RSS reader and quickly browse the latest headlines from these sites without even visiting their individual homepages.

Blogger.com will automatically create your blog's RSS feed URL so people can subscribe to your feeds. Now when they open up their RSS readers to get the updates from their favorite sites, any new posts on your blog will show up in their reader.

Here's the URL to subscribe to my blog:
http://createyourwebsite.blogspot.com/atom.xml
Again, this URL was automatically created by Blogger.com.

The above link is not meant to be viewed directly. You should first download a free RSS reader and add that link as a "new subscription" and it will feed my blog's content into your RSS reader automatically. It's pretty cool.

Now go to your favorite sites and see if they offer RSS feeds or perhaps they have blogs that you can subscribe to like mine. Look for the orange RSS or XML buttons. Almost all of the major news sites have them.

Add Adsense Ads
Once your blog starts bringing in traffic, you'll want to maximize the revenue potential by adding Adsense ads. If you aren't familiar with Google's Adsense program, go here to learn about it.

Free Blog with Every Domain Name

In case you missed it at the beginning of this article, you can get your own free blog if you register a domain name (yoursite.com) with WebsitePalace.com.

That way your blog will have a nice, concise web address instead of a long, hard-to-remember address that you receive with the free blogging sites.

If you already have a domain then you can register one just to house your blog and create something like myblogwebsite.com. Now your blog will have its own domain.

In Conclusion...

As you can see, a blog can really help increase the traffic to your main website if you continue to update and promote it. Many webmasters are finding that search engines sometimes index (list) blogs faster than some websites giving them that added boost of traffic.

If you remember nothing else from this article, remember that the key to having search engine success is to get as many related websites to link back to yours. Having a blog in your posession is like creating another vote for your site.

Be sure to update it often with relevant, unique content so the search engines will visit frequently. Happy blogging!

7 ways of making money with adsense !!!

There is really no doubting that there are amazing incomes currently being made on Google Adsense and the really interesting thing is that even relatively small sites and blogs are finding new ways to make money from their Adsense sites every day.

Actually there are a lot of increasingly creative ways to make money and maximize on Adsense earnings that are being discovered and also being put to use every day. And what's even more fascinating is the fact that most of these tools being used don't cost anything. They are actually free. Here are 7 of the most effective currently being used.

a) Ways to make money from Adsense by Distributing articles through ezine and article announcement lists

Some of the most effective methods ways to make money from Adsense clicks involve the simple step of just increasing the volume of targeted traffic to a site. One of the ways of doing this is by distributing interesting content to ezine lists and article announcement lists. It is not too difficult to quickly build a list that reaches a million or so email boxes and can thus give a lot of visibility and drive tons of highly targetd traffic to your Adsense site or sites. Probably the most popular place for doing this is at Yahoo groups, but there are a few others that you can find easily by using your favorite search engine.

Success here depends on three main factors. Firstly you should be careful to join article announcement lists and ezine lists that are as relevant as possible to your subject matter and offering. Secondly your headline has to be a killer headline that will grab readers by the scruffs of their necks and force them to open your email message amongst the dozens or even hundreds of others they receive daily. It goes without saying that the content must meet the promise of your sensational headline. Anything less will cause annoyance and leave all those potential visitors to your Adsense site feeling cheated. And believe me, you don't want to cause this sort of reaction because it is definitely not one of the ways o make money from Adsense or any other program for that matter. Thirdly, you will need the sort of resource box in all your articles that will leave most of your readers with no option but to visit your Adsense site.

Within a very short of consistently applying this technique, my daily Adsense earnings increased seven-fold.

b) Ways to make money from Adsense by Distributing free articles to high traffic article sites Some people find the recent trends that have seen an increase in article sites surprising. I don't. The net is primarily an information-seeking tool. Anything that will help improve the search and quality of information will greatly benefit the people making that effort.

Some of the older article directories receive very high traffic, mainly from web masters and site owners seeking quality free content for their sites. So apart from the immediate exposure these sites also guarantee plenty of future targeted traffic to your site, when folks find your articles useful enough to re-post at their sites.

The more new articles you release to these sites every week, the more targeted traffic your Adsense sites will receive. This is in fact one of the most effective ways of making money consistently from Adsense clicks. One of the reasons for this is that targeted traffic will tend to spend more time at your site or sites, and the more time they spend, the higher the chances that they will click one one of the Adsense ads posted there.

c) Ways to make money from Adsense by Using Articles And A Viral Marketing Website

Any online marketing technique that involves the use of referral marketing or viral marketing automatically has a huge chance of being a success. The net is ideal for viral marketing and in fact gives any viral marketer huge leverage. Viral marketing or referral marketing is one of the most effective ways to make money online. Just ask Bill Gates.

When Gates was trying to play catch up on the Internet after an earlier mistake of underestimating the future importance of the net, he launched his Hotmail free email service when rivals like Yahoo already had millions of users. He decided to use a simple referral marketing technique. Every Hotmail message that went out had a brief signature at the end requesting the recipient to sign up for their free Hotmail account. Within a few short months, Hotmail had millions of users. And there are many other amazing stories which viral marketing boasts of on the net.

There is one of the very simple ways to make money from Adsense by going viral. Sign up at a leading viral marketing site. You will automatically get your own viral site. You can then use some of your articles to point people to your viral site. The way these sites work is that anybody who signs up at your site will have to visit your Adsense site if you register it at the site. So within a very short time you will be driving thousands of visitors to your Adsense site.

Find more details on this at my blog whose address you'll find in the resource box below.

Admittedly this traffic is less targeted. Still the huge potential and possible numbers you are able to receive using this free tool more than makes up for this.

d) Ways to make money from Adsense With Your Email signature

People greatly underestimate the power and potential effectiveness of a simple email signature as one of the ways to make money online. Actually this is a viral marketing method because emails get forwarded all the time and are even copied to several other people sometimes.

Do not waste another minute. Go to all your email accounts right now and create a signature that points to your Adsense site or sites.

Writing effective email signatures is a skill that you will have to develop, but I have found that using famous quotes is more effective than a straight advertising message. Always remember that people hate to be advertised to online.

e) Ways to make money from Adsense By Asking Questions At Discussion groups

I recently had an interesting conversation with a young Internet and computer techie. He asked me whether there were quick ways to make money online by answering technical questions and helping people to solve their computer and web-related problems. My answer was that there were many discussion groups where participants would get these answers for free. I advised him that he had a better chance of making money by making use of this free advice available online rather than by trying to sell his own advice.

There are tons of online discussion groups where leading world experts will answer your questions and give you valuable insight for free. It is amazing why most people do not think of using these online forums to learn as much as they can about the most effective ways of making money from Adsense.

These forums can easily be found through you favorite search engine.

f) Ways to make money from Adsense By Bartering your online skills for valuable Adsense keywords

In the old days, before the invention of money, if somebody needed something, the first question they asked themselves was; “What is it that I already have that I can exchange for what I need? Barter trade seems to have been forgotten but it is a very powerful method of trading. More so online where people have plenty of skills but are slow to trust others enough to send them money for an item they need.

You can barter whatever it is you have, your skills, products or services, and exchange them for genuine valuable Adsense keywords. Valuable Adsense keywords are the most effective way for a small site with low traffic to earn big cash from Adsense. And you can do this barter trade on an ongoing basis so that you always have a constant supply of valuable Adsense keywords which you can use at your site or blog as one of the ways to make more money from Adsense.

g) Ways to make money from Adsense By Sending Teaser Emails

To Everybody In Your Inbox And Also To Your Opt-in Email List Most of us receive tons of email in our inbox every day. You'll be surprised at the huge number of people you know by simply going through your email inbox. No matter how good your spam filters are, you are also bound to be receiving more than your fare share of SPAM or unsolicited email. All this is “gold” lying in your email inbox and there are ways to make money using these emails. All you need to do to process the emails into pure gold is to send out “teaser emails about the most interesting aspects of content at your site. The whole objective of teaser emails is to get people to visit your site. For instance if I were to send out teaser email on this content here is how I would construct it;

Subject: Free Tools Currently Being Used To Increase Adsense Earnings

Hello,

Just thought you might be interested in this subject, since so many folks online use Adsense these days. If not please accept my sincere apologies. Details are at my site.

www. your site's address .com

Regards, Chris.

I am sure you can write an even more effective teaser email. It would be a better idea to have a different message for your close friends, a different one for your business contacts and yet another one for those nasty guys SPAMMING you.

These are just some of the many creative ways to make money from Adsense.

Christopher Kyalo is a successful online writer and entrepreneur.
