A few updates

Hey everyone.

I just realized I don't get around to this too often, and for that I apologize. Well okay, if you haven't noticed, I did put up a new 5 song EP called "Without Voice". Added that back in March, and had the help of Brad Cheeseman (of Like Clouds) and Shane Lannigan (of That Boy Ain't Right) for a couple of tracks. And speaking of TBAR, they're a really kick ass metal band in Hamilton Ontario. then that would be absolutely fantastic.

Anyways, I am considering some shows, but I need to equipment, and the live band to back me up. So over the next while I will be definitely looking into some new equipment and recruiting some people, and once things get going, shows will definitely be coming soon after.

Also, I have been kind of playing around with some new sounds/ideas for a while, and slightly changing direction. Not too much though, but something I feel is getting to be more of my comfort zone. I wouldn't really go by what you hear in "Without Voice" as the start of the new direction, seeing as those were some quickly belted out tunes for my failed "Project 52". But it'll be a while anyways before you hear even a whisper of what I'm playing with. In the mean time, enjoy the present songs, and hopefully sometime later this year, i can be playing shows.

Okay, so I think I've come to an official decision about this project. as much as it pains me to do this, I can't continue with the weekly schedule of Project 52. Recently in my personal life I have become VERY busy, and trying to come up with new ideas EVERY week for the project is becoming exhausting. I just received a full time paid internship with Canada Revenue Agency, so unfortunately it will cut back on time for the project.

As of today, Project 52 is done. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'M DONE MAKING NEW MUSIC! I will still be making new stuff through the year, just a little slower. the songs I have done for the project so far will be released soon enough, so no worries. I just have to finish mixing some tunes and re-tag all of them.

Long story short, I failed Project 52. It can't be helped though, it is beyond my control. Sorry.

I realize how behind I really am on this project, mainly because there is something like 3 incomplete songs. Song 2 is still in the hands of Shane, but I may have to get to it myself if I don't hear any ideas, mainly because the deadline is fast approaching. Song 5 is just about done completely, and Song 6 should be pretty easy. Now starting Song 7 this week, I honestly don't know what I'm doing for it. I'm fairly certain ideas will come along shortly.

As mentioned, the deadline is fast approaching. The first EP is set to be released on March 1st, so I got to plan this out right. Things in my personal life are getting busy, so sometimes I find it hard to keep up. I'm currently in the running for an internship that has been consuming much of my time. Also I find myself with the first stages of a cold right now, so it has definitely slowed me down a bit. This week as promised I will be releasing song 1 in its entirety, plus a couple more preview tracks. But until I have more of song 5 done, I only have one other song to preview right now. song 1 will definitely be out today though (Tuesday February 15th). Please check in with the facebook or twitter page to find the song, also it will appear on the MySpace and Reverb nation page.

That's all I got right now, I have work to do.

Well, it certainly has been a while since I used this blogger page. I figured since there is so much happening this year in the 25:17 camp, that I would come back here and blog about the happenings.

2010 was a very unproductive year, and I regret that fully. Inspiration was at a low and I just felt really lazy when it came to music. So I just stayed quiet and let it pass. Fortunately enough, towards the end of 2010 I started wanting to get back into the swing of things. So of course I started working on "Entity, Leaving" in November and had it out by December. After that release, I realized how much discipline I really needed. So I came up with the idea for "Project 52". One song a week for 52 weeks was/is a sure thing to get me back on track and keep me super busy. So a lot of this blog from here on in is pretty much revolving around that.

It's already February, and it's the beginning of week 6 for Project 52. It pains me to say it already, but I've already slightly half failed this project. 2 songs not entirely done yet, but I have every intention to finish them and have 52 songs by years end. I know a lot of people will tell me that yes I did fail this, but I believe if the songs come out before the first EP, then I have at least only half failed. I'm still working my ass off to get these songs off the ground. Lately I find myself busy with small jobs and a new internship program I may be starting come March, so it has definitely slowed down work, but hasn't stopped it.

Currently starting Song 5 and 6 together, have 2 separate ideas for them, so it should turn out fine. I'm thinking that Brad Cheeseman (who collaborated with me for Entity Leaving) is probably going to be joining me for one of them. He's an on and off helping hand, since he's always looking to keep himself busy, so he's offered to collaborate when he has a chance to. Song 2 is still kind of in the works... all my parts are done, but I'm still waiting on Shane Lannigan (of That Boy Ain't Right) to get back to me with his bass track(s) for that song. He's currently in the studio with TBAR working on their own EP, so he's fairly busy. So song 2 is on hold until at least the dead line for EP 1. (which it will be before March 1st). But 1, 3, and 4 are sitting comfortably in my completed pile, so those are good and ready to go. I'm think songs 5 and 6 will be ready around the same time, just in time for the second round of previews.

I'm actually taking a small break right now from Song 5 to write this blog, so i guess it's back to work. check back here often for updates!

I go live on UStream for the first time Thursday February 25th, 2010 at 4pm until 4:15pm! It's just a test video for now, but I will be making new shit with Ableton Live 8 and iZotope iDrum. So, my first official blog update of 2010. I guess the whole "Happy New Year" thing is way over due. Oh well.

I actually make this blog today because recently (thanks to one of the people I follow on Twitter), I've come across a website that not only adds on to the collection of the vast pile of 25:17 internet accounts, but this could quite possibly (besides Twitter) be the most interactive tool I could get myself into. It's a website called UStream.com. In a way, it's almost kind of like youtube, except for the fact that this website is for live, real time streaming video. So like most sites I join, I went on a little adventure around it to see what it was like, and sure enough I saw the top three things that didn't surprise me. One, underground/local hip hop artists trying to cut a demo. Two, People eating food and looking at the net, explaining what they're eating and looking at. And three, people playing video games.

Yes, I know, it sounds utterly pointless, but I thought about it and how something like this could actually be used to quite an advantage. I thought of a few examples of why this would be a good move on my half as a musician. A) I could do live streams of work on new music I'm doing at the time, just as sort of a teaser. B) (When my fan base is big enough), have a live stream chat doing some Q, C, and A with people who want to tune in. And C) All I have to do is hook a video camera up to the lap top, and when ever I am finally able to do live shows, I stream them live onto the site. As I have already said, I think this could be one of the most interactive things I could do to reach out to a fan base, and/or actually gain many more fans. Obviously everyone will be notified of when I plan to do a live stream, so you would know when you could watch it live. Can't watch live? It's okay, the videos are immediately uploaded to youtube after streaming.

Now at the time of posting this blog (which is February 10th, 2010 at 6:20pm, there are no videos to see currently, and I have no scheduled streams yet, but sure enough, they will start coming. Also, I forgot to mention one thing I truly like about it is that not only is there a chat window next to the video screen, there is also a social media link, so you can also chat via Twitter, as long as you use the hash tags provided on the video screen. Wow, technology is awesome.

Anyways, that's all I got for now. New material is still being worked on, I'm just getting picky with how it sounds, so it's taking a little longer, which sucks, I kind of wanted to have something out in time for the one year anniversary of Reborn. Website is going crazy!

So I spent a great deal of time yesterday discovering some tools on my website builder that I've never looked at before, and wne tcrazy and added a bunch of new things. Two major updates to the site include the Widgets page which shows my feeds from Twitter, Youtube, Blogger, Reverbnation, and Facebook. The second big updates is a new experimental thing I have going on called "25:17 fans". Signing up is free, and it gives you the benefits of Hear new and rare tracks long before it hits any other site, seeing new videos before they are uploaded to Youtube or a Vlog, getting to view new pictures and ideas for album art before it hits anywhere else, and also a new/rumors portion that has small clippets of things I don't normally tweet or blog about, and sometimes there's some pretty interesting things to be said.

I am thinking of adding more, but it's still a new concept to me, so it will take time. There is also a forum widget on the fan page where you can interact with me and other people. I understand it will probably be empty for a while, but it's okay, it'll build over time. Also, it's only a small page for now, but I do plan on expanding it within the next while, so give me time.

Hello everyone.

If you haven't noticed, I've kept myself quiet for a while now, with the passing of my grandmother in mid October made me just want to stay quiet. But I feel as though at this point I'm ready to continue. Although the pain hasn't completely subsided, I feel comfortable enough to start the music up again.

So over the last few days I have been doing a massive clean up on my lap top in hopes of making it run faster, and I am glad to say it has picked it self up enough to help me! Also, I've found ways of getting my houses main computer in on the action, so it makes the process easier.

Now, with the clean up of the lap top, I had to get rid of MANY files, encluding the entire first Cluster, but that's not a problem, things are coming to me and I think that they are sounding fantastic. So as of today I have begun production on the next prject which is the "Cluster: 1" EP. I will continue to work on it through the coming weeks until it is complete!

Also, I have looked back at Reborn, and have seen the formats I have put them in (96, 128, 256, 320), and now to add to that, I will be making Reborn and Cluster 1 also available in WAV format and in 5.1 Surround. I'm still figuring out FLAC, so give me time. So the Reborn in WAV and 5.1 should be done fairly soon, and the Cluster is still in it's birthing phase, so give that time as well.

Big update today! Vlog surely to follow soon to monitor progress, I noticed the last one was made in July, so I'll fix that soon enough.

Over the last week, my family has taken a heavy hit with the passing of my grandmother. I've already mentioned all projects for 25:17 and Naut are being brought to a hault until further notice, well this is just the official notice.

Reborn 5.1

So incase you haven't seen the little flash update saying that I was announcing some exciting news about Reborn this weekend, well now you know.

I've been playing around with certain things and coming up with some ideas which lead me to what I am about to announce. Reborn is being re-released in 5.1 surround sound! It started off as experimenting to see what it would sound like, and after finishing Amenance through it (not entirely done yet), I realised that it was kind of interesting to hear the music brought through a different dimension of sound via 5.1. So this is something I will be working on over the next month. Yes, it will be a free MP3 download still. I will test it through different programs to make sure it works, and when everything sounds/looks good, then I pass it on to you!

If you don't have surround sound on your comp or anywhere in your house, I guess this doesnt't apply to you unfortionatly, but hopefully it will one day. I'll update as progression is made.

Okay, so I know I said 25:17 is keeping quiet for now, but I can't help but make this public. It's nothing new, it's actually old.

Recently I have rediscovered yet ANOTHER site I signed 25:17 up for that I haven't actually been to in 2 years. It's kind of weird because everything was in it's old style, and there was even The original 2 albums on there! I had a good listen to both, and holy shit, talk about shit. Vocals and instruments coming in on really off times, low quality, bad lyrics, terrible vocals.

BUT, this is where it gets fun, I decided NOT to delete the songs off the sit, well, some of them I didn't delete. I took a small handful of songs that I kind of liked minus a few aspects, and compiled it into a small little album called "Rarities". Rarities, as in these songs will NOT be played live, and I probably wont make them too public. Like yes, if you some how do really like them and find yourself wanting to download them, then I will actually make a free MP3 download for it, but for now it's only streaming off of the one site. Again, I apologize in advance for how terrible it may be to listen to, but hey, I was young and trying out new things, getting a feel for my equipment and programs, and really trying to find how I wanted 25:17 to sound. So go check it out!

I think during the summer, at one point I said that "Summer is the season of music!" meaning I had things in store for 25:17, but obviously that never really fell through. See, I had things lined up, and I have things half done, but thanks to some bull shit tech stuff, I haven't been able to complete anything. Recording has become slower and harder, not to mention frequent laptop crashes and the ever so dreaded BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH... fuck. So I've had to come to a decision on what to do about 25:17 for now. With this lap top pretty much never coming out of recovery, I may just keep 25:17 quiet until I finally get my hands on a mac book. Any kind of production for 25:17 has become a burden with the current situation, and it's something I don't really want to deal with... so 25:17 is going to be inactive for a couple months or so. But with that said, I should mention that my lap top isn't complete belly up. It is able to with stand recording Naut (Acoustic project) becaue how many layers I'm NOT recording as compared to 25:17. So I figure this is a good time to pick that project back up as I already have been. I've written 3 new songs so far and they all sound great. And there is so little to recording it that my laptop barely manages to hang in there. So over the next couple months, I'll be doing lots of Naut work. I'm sorry if that dissapoints some of you, but the 25:17 thing is beyond my control right now.

Wow, I realise I haven't updated since like early summer. I apologize. I've just been very busy with things, and not to mention having tremendous problems with the laptop (recording). With a slow laggy lap top, it's hard to do multitrack recordings, so I'm keeping quiet for now, but also for another reason. My acoustic project hasn't been touched in almost a year, and I haven't given it any exposure, so I think I should pick that back up for now seeing as A) It's been neglected, B) I'm getting inspired to do it again, and C) It's easier to record acoustic with a slow lap top (no multitrack).

So what I'm going to do now is merging my Naut blog into this one. (and btw, Naut is the name of my acoustic project)

That way all of the updates can be posted into one account. Obviously I will mention who I'm updating for in the subject title so there is no confusion. So, shameless advertising time!

Okay, so this is just a small update.

I'm just letting you know that over the next little while, I'm setting up a 25:17 Video Blog. It's not going to really be a news blog like this one (although I may mention updates), it will just be small video updates on things I may be recording, working on, or what ever. I'll post the address when it finally gets up and running!

And also, The first Cluster is nearing completion. More details to follow.

So good news is finally here to be had. Over the weekend, I was able to miraculously resurrect my lap top! I can finally use Cubase again and record! Only problem with resurrection is zombies, and my lap top seems to be moving slower than one right now. Over the next week, I plan on taking advantage of this opportunity to record. I hope to have the first Cluster done by mid to late July, so pay attention to whats going down.

It's been a frustraiting 2 months, but I'm very slowly progressing through the first Cluster. I'm not giving out any info about how many songs or when it will be released, that is to be discussed later. With a near dead lap top, I haven't been able to record now, but I have been working around with Drum Machines and Sequencers. I do hope to have this Cluster wrapped up some time soon, but in the mean time I must work out certain instrumentals until recording is a possibility again.

Also, the website is still down. Things are complicated, but it should be back up soon. I decided not to really do much with it right now seeing as I haven't had to much time. But it does look different... kind of.

Okay, that's about it for now. I'm still working as much as I can, so hopefully you see the results soon.

Anyways, I just thought I'd update you on a few things, or a couple... or something, fuckI I don't know.

Okay, so I've been playing around on my computer with some drum amchines and synths thinking up new ideas, and I'm already in the process of making more songs. For now since my ideas are coming in few and scattered, I am officially going to start the 25:17 Clusters!

But Kris, what the hell is a cluster? Is it a new project? Does it come in many shapes in sizes? What flavours is it available in?

Good questions, kind of. To those of you who don't know what I mean by "Clusters", it's something I've been mentioning since late 2007. A "Cluster" will consist of an unset number of songs I do in a certain unplaned time frame. When I get songs done and I run out of ideas at the time, I gift wrap them into neat little MP3 download/Torrent packages and send them out. So for example, right now I'm int he process of working in the first cluster, so it will be "Cluster 1". And the songs will ahve no titles, they will only appear as 1a, 1b, 1c, or 2a, 2b, 2c. (The number being the Cluster number, and the letter representing a song on the cluster). I hope that was explained easy enough, if not, here it is again in a nutshell.

(Random example, not actually number of songs on Clusters)

# = Cluster Number (easier to identify)
Letter = Song on Cluster

Cluster 1:
1. 1A
2. 1B
3. 1C
4. 1D
5. 1E

Cluster 2:

1. 2A
2. 2B
3. 2C

And so on and so forth, okay?

There is no set number of songs on a Cluster, and there will never really be set release dates, they'll just be kind of random surprises that you may hear of maybe 2 or 3 days in advance.

I'm only doing it this way for a little while until i can start doing shows and build up the fan base.

Okay, just thought I'd let you all know. Now, back to experimentation.

So the main site (www.2517.mfbiz.com) is going to be going through some big changes soon. Right now, I have fixed it up a little bit. I changed up the links, re arranged things, and gave Reborn it's own info page.

So the site will remain like this for a while, but then BIG changes. I'm thinkng up better designs, more HTML, and possibly a .com? Who knows?

As for music... I'm trying to play around with some ideas I have, but my laptop is pretty much on it's death bed. It has it's own version of the Swine Flu, I guess. It's okay, I'm getting a Mac Book soon any ways, so I guess I can wait? As can you I guess.

I'll keep you updated on everything, but for now, it's kind of quiet.

So today I figured I'd shed a little more light on Reborn, I attempted turning them into Torrents, but the pirate bay totally disagreed with everything I did... so much to the point where my account all of a sudden went out of exsistance while I was logged in. So I email them telling them to take their hands off their dicks and back onto the keyboard (afetr using hand sanatizer first), and fix this.

So yeah, be patient for those of you who want to downlosd the Rebron CD as a torrent.

Also, still incredibly busy with work, so give me time to work things out, then I will see about shows.
