I know I haven’t been around lately. No reading. No posting. I’m barely even commenting. I am really sorry. I’m working on building my buffer back up now that I’m getting some energy back. However, I have a pretty good excuse…

We completed the Chicago Tough Mudder this past Saturday and used our after pictures as the announcement. I obviously had to skip a few of the obstacles. Since I was working out regularly before and knew my limits, we weren’t worried about me deciding to still do the challenge.

I’m 11 and half weeks and just starting to get my energy back. While I’ve been very lucky and haven’t been super sick, I have been tired ALL the time. As in falling asleep as soon as I start to read.

So while I’m not 100% back yet… I’m working on it and hope to be back very soon!

I hadn’t planned on taking a break… but I used up my buffer and I’ve had too much going on to catch up. Focus for this coming week is to catch up on blog reading/commenting. I still plan on posting Tattoo Tuesday, but unless by some miracle I finally finish Serpent’s Kiss, I don’t foresee other posts this week.

Meanwhile, in Tara’s World

It’s been a crazy busy week (including feeling under the weather), but nothing worth posting on Instagram. Apparently I’m slacking all around

He's a Wyr warrior, a god of storms. She's the heir to the Dark Fae throne. But desire will bring both to their knees in this all-new Novel of the Elder Races.

During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend to the throne.

Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago.

Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them?a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.

Lord?s Fall

Kinked

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I recently reread Dragon Bound and fell back in love with the Elder Races. I was not in any way disappointed by the second book in this series. I laughed. I cried. I blushed. I was on the edge of my seat. All the things that make a perfect escape read.

The pacing of the romance was a little slower in this one and I liked the added tension. It worked because the characters were honest with each other. This is one of the rare books in which the leading lady and alpha male don’t keep secrets. Yes, she may stew over something for a night and he gives her the space to do that. However, the next day he approaches it again and they work through the issue. This book could have had a disaster of a love hiccup if either one of them would have been less open with their fears. Now don’t this lead you to believe that Tricks and Tiago didn’t sizzle. Oh they very much so did.

I really enjoyed the added mystery to this one. In Dragon Bound we know who the bad guy is and what he wants. We are never really sure who is after Tricks and that ups the anxiety.

The addition of more side characters had me itching for future books. I was already crushing on Rune prior to this one and CANNOT wait to jump into his story. The Nightkind were very intriguing! I even found myself growing attached to Aryal (who I wasn’t fond of in the first book).

Favorite Quotes

He snatched the vodka bottle from her and took a swig. She watched with acute interest as shock shot across his face. He gagged and spat the mouthful out on the carpet. He glared at the bottle. “Bubble gum-flavored vodka? Bubble gum?”

“What? It’s good.” She reached for the bottle.

He held it out of her reach. “No way.”

She scowled. “That’s my dinner. You give it back.”

He framed her face and drove his mouth down on her as he drove in her body. “So this is called love,” he gasped. “La petite mort.”

Drenched in gold, she lay transfixed by the surprise of him, the language of his body, the poetry of his mind.

La petite mort. The little death. More than a climax, a spiritual release.

- I’ve always loved the French translation for climax.

This is 85% why I don’t blog at home. This is also why I often have an aching neck and shoulders. Here are some stretches to help us bloggers and readers

Behind the Back Neck Stretch: offers a deep stretch in the sides of your neck

Sitting on the edge of a sturdy chair, reach both hands behind your pelvis, and hold onto your left wrist with your right hand. Use your right hand to gently straighten your left arm and pull it away from you slightly. To increase the stretch in your neck, slowly lower your right ear toward your shoulder.

Stay here for 30 seconds and then switch sides.

Seated Clasping Neck Stretch: stretches the upper back and neck

Clasp your hands and bring both palms to the back of your head. Sitting with a tall spine, ground your hips firmly into your seat. Begin to gently press your hands toward your thighs, tucking your chin into your chest. As you press down, use your hands to gently pull your head away from your shoulders. This will intensify the stretch even more.

Hold here for at least 30 seconds, and then slowly lift your head up and release your hands.

Reverse Arch Stretch: opens the chest, shoulders, and front of your neck

Sit on the very edge of your chair. Reach your hands behind you and hold on to the back of the chair. Press your chest forward, arching your spine. If it feels comfortable, let your head fall back slightly to open through the front of the neck.

Continue to breathe, feeling the front of your body open up as you extend backward. Hold this position for 30 seconds or as long as you want. Then slowly lift your head up, straighten your spine, and release hold of the chair.

Tricep and Shoulder Stretch: targets the shoulders and triceps

Sitting in your chair, bend your left elbow, bringing it behind your back with your palm facing outward. Bring your fingertips toward the middle of your upper back, as close to your neck as possible. Raise your right arm above your head, bend your elbow, and lower your hand behind your head. Try to touch your fingers together, and eventually clasp your hands. If your hands don’t touch, it’s OK because you’re still stretching your left shoulder and right triceps.

Keep your spine long by drawing your ribs and belly button in. Press the back of your head gently against your right arm. After holding for at least 30 seconds, slowly release your arms. Shake them out before doing the second side.

Half-human and half-Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful?and passionate?of the Elder Races.

As the most feared and respected of the Wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they've ignited in each other.

Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave?although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul.

When I first read this book I recommended it to everyone and anyone. That was two years ago. I started falling off the wagon around the time the series started to continue and never picked it up again. Shame on me. Amanda was 100% right in encouraging me to start this series again.

I laughed. I teared up. I was speed reading to find out what happens next. The best part about it being two years since I had read this was that I barely remembered anything. It was almost like reading it for the first time.

2nd Time Around Differences

I had NO issue falling for Dragos. I?ve mentioned my weakness for alpha males before and he fit the bill. He is literally older than dirt, but his character development was impressively worked into the romance and we see someone who ?knows it all? learn something new. He was charming, overly-protective, territorial, possessive, funny, and at times amazingly romantic.

- from my first review

I still loved Dragos, but I think it took longer for me to warm up to him this time. Pia still had me from the first lines. Their romance still worked (amazing really), but I was more in line with Pia’s concerns than just jumping into Drago’s arms and doing whatever he tells me too.

I cannot wait to start the next book!
