Angel Falls is the world’s highest waterfall, with a height of 979 meters (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 meters (2,647 ft)

It is located in the Canaima National Park , an UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolivar State , Venezuela . It is one of the country’s top tourist destinations despite its isolated location

Did you know the height of the falls is so great, that before getting anywhere near the ground, the water is atomized by the strong winds and turned into mist? The mist can be felt a mile (1.6 km) away!

The base of the falls feeds into the Kerep River (alternatively known as the Rio Gauya), which flows into the Churun River , a tributary of the Carrao River

Apparently, the falls were not known to the outside world until American aviator Jimmie Angel flew over them on November 16, 1933 during a flight searching for a valuable ore bed. Returning on October 9, 1937, Angel tried to land his Flamingo monoplane, El Rio Caroni atop the mountain, but the plane was damaged when the wheels sank into the marshy ground. He and his three companions, including his wife Marie, were then forced to descend the mountain on foot. It took them 11 days to make their way back to civilization, but news of their adventure spread, and the waterfall was named Angel Falls in his honor. Angel’s plane remained on top of the mountaintop for 33 years before being lifted out by helicopter. It was restored at the Aviation Museum in Maracay and now sits outdoors on the front of the airport at Ciudad Bolívar.

- The Maldives, officially Republic of Maldives, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean formed by a double chain of twenty-six atolls stretching in a north-south direction. It stands in the Laccadive Sea, 402 km (250 mi) south-west of India
- The chain of islands is an archipelago, which are in reality the tops of a vast undersea mountain range in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. The atolls of the Maldives encompass a territory spread over roughly 90,000 square km (34,750 sq miles), making it one of the most dispersed countries in the world in geographic terms
- It features 1,192 islands, of which two hundred are inhabited. The Republic of Maldives’s capital and largest city is Malé, with a population of 103,693 (as of 2006)

- Following the introduction of a new constitution in 2008, direct elections for the President take place every five years, with a limit of two terms in office for any individual. The current President is Mohamed Nasheed
- Members of the unicameral Majlis serve five-year terms, with the total number of members determined by atoll populations. At the 2009 election, 77 members were elected. THE 2004 EARTHQUAKE/TSUNAMI
On 26 December 2004, following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, the Maldives were devastated by a tsunami. Only nine islands were reported to have escaped any flooding, while fifty-seven islands faced serious damage to critical infrastructure, fourteen islands had to be totally evacuated, and six islands were destroyed
- A further twenty-one resort islands were forced to close because of serious damage. The total damage was estimated at more than 400 million US dollars, or some 62% of the GDP. A total of 108 people, including six foreigners, reportedly died in the tsunami.
- The destructive impact of the waves on the low-lying islands was mitigated by the fact there was no continental shelf or land mass upon which the waves could gain height. The tallest waves were reported to be 14 feet (4.3 m) high

An active geological hot spot, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park contains two of the world's most active volcanoes. When measured from the ocean floor, Mauna Loa is the tallest mountain on Earth, and Kilauea continues to erupt, sending hot molten magma to the surface.
Park visitors can hike on old lava trails and see firsthand the forest regeneration. You can also take scenic car drives that wind through the Ka`u Desert and rain forest, which is home to rich Hawaiian wildlife.

The park is accessible year-round, but the driest months are usually September and October. The climate ranges from warm and breezy to rainy and cool, so bring layered clothing. There are daily bus tours that travel to points of interest and tend to be less crowded before 11am and after 3pm. There are free nature walks and talks led by park rangers, as well as slide shows, films and museum exhibits. The park also offers individual hiking and backcountry fishing, but you must check with park rangers for details and regulations.
You can see most of the important points of interest with an intensive one day visit, although a few days will give you plenty of time to see the entire park. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park does offer in-park accommodations, although you can find hotels on the outskirts of the park as well.
The park offers overnight backpacking with a 7-day limit on a first-come, first-served basis. The Volcano House offers 2 person rooms for $79 to $134 per night. Outside the park you can find affordable to very nice hotels and resorts that range from $50 to $500 per night.

About Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park itself straddles the states of Tennessee and North Carolina, with the boundaries of these two states dissecting the national park almost neatly in half.

Cades Cove is actually the most visited part of the national park. It is an isolated valley where a thriving community once lived before the formation of the national park. It is also a place where visitors can look forward to watching deer and to sightings of black bears.

Anglers can go fishing in the streams and creeks of the park, where trout and rock bass are plenty. However, one would need a fishing license to do so, and there are restrictions on the kinds of hooks and bait to be used here. Because there is an active effort to encourage the growth of the trout population in the waters covered by the park, anglers are limited to a catch of five trout and 20 rock bass per day.
Other activities popular at the park include horseback riding and viewing wildflowers. There are 1,660 species of wildflowers at the park, thus earning it its alternative nickname of Wildflower National Park.

Kalsubai: Kalsubai with the height of 1646m is famous as one of the highest peaks in Maharashtra. Kalsubai lies in the Sahyadri mountain range and being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view. There is a symbolic temple at the top. The sanctuary area spreads from Kalasubai to Harischandragad in Akole Tehsil of Ahmadnagar district. The area is part of Sahyadri hill ranges. The Kalsubai sanctuary is challenge to trekkers as it is most rugged, hilly area and difficult to get accessibility.

Harishchandragad: Harishchandragad is one of the ancient forts in Western ghats and situated at the top of Malshej Ghat and it has played a major role in guarding the surrounding region. Its origin is said to have been in 6th century, during the rule of Kalchuri dynasty. The citadel was built during this era. The various caves probably have been carved out in the 11th century.

Bhandardara: Amidst the dense forest, lies one of the most splendid lakes of the country, Arthur Lake. It is formed by the waters of the Pravara River. Bhandardara is well known for the Wilson Dam which was built in 1910 on the Pravara River and is almost 492 ft above sea level. The Umbrella Falls are also in the vicinity. Besides being a scenic spot and offering some breathtaking views this water body is also used for hydro-electric power generation.

The backwaters of the Wilson Dam reflect the gorgeous image of Mount Kalsubai, the highest peak (5,400 ft) of the Sahyadri ranges in Maharashtra.

Lonavla: Lonavala, a tiny hill town of Maharashtra, is also known as the jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains. This hill station is also a popular health resort. It is situated at a height of 625 metres above sea level.

Khandala: Khandala neighbors Lonavala. Khandala is one of the most prominent hill stations in the state of Maharashtra and is the pride of the Sahyadri mountains. History:
The 12th century was the time of great rivalries between Shaiva and Vaishnava sects in South India. Vaishnavas were persecuted by the Cholas, who were the rulers of Tamilnadu at that time. Sri Ramanujacharya, the leading preacher of Vaishvism had to escape from Chola rule. He was allowed to live in exile at Melukote by then Hoysala ruler Vishuvardhana. Influenced by Sri Ramanujacharya, Vishuvardhana who was Jain converted to Vaishnavism.During 14th century, defeat of Hoysala Kings against Muslim forces saw the destruction of Melukote. The town was plundered by the invaders. It was later restored during Vijayanagar rule.

Places to see: Yoganarasimha temple on the top of a hill is the primary attraction. Cheluvanarayanaswamy temple in the town is another well known place. Some landmarks in the town are the Kalyani below Yoganarasimha temple, Raya Gopura, Akka Thangi Kola and the Sanskrit research institute. Tondlur kere is a huge lake 15km from Melukote.

How to reach:

It is around 150Km from Bangalore. Take the road towards Mysore and just after the town of Mandya, take the right turn towards Melkote. Just after you leave Mandya, there is a Bharat Petroleum Petrol Pump on the left hand side. The turn which has to be taken is within half a kilometre from this place. Once you take the turn just follow the directions on the boards. Effectively it is just a straight road with a single turn to be made when the Pandavapura road crosses the road to Melkote.

The Pillar is erected as a memorial. The interesting fact about this pillar is that it is balanced only on 3 points. You can pass your hanky underneath and pull it out from the other side. Notice the people bending and looking through the gap underneath the pillar.

Belur used to be the early capital of the glorious Hoysala Empire. The temple is regarded as one of the most magnificent pieces of Hoysala Architecture. It is estimated that it took over a 100 years to build this temple complex.It was finally completed in 1116 AD. The temple walls contain intricate sculptures of wars, great epics and the sagas of glorious kings. There are over a thousand miniature sculptures of elephants that adorn the outer (lower) walls. The interesting fact is that each of these elephants is unique in its design and posture.
