Earlier today we released a few key features and updates.

Timeview for PRO
PRO users now have an exciting new interface for navigating through their entries. It’s a really easy and intuitive way to look back through your entries and is especially good if you have lots of photo uploads. To preview it in action you need a minimum of three entries, you can find in by navigating to View Entries -> Timeview (PRO).

New look and themes
You may have noticed the look and feel of 280daily has been subtly enhanced. If you’re not a fan of the new look, you can switch back by navigating to Settings -> Themes and selecting “Classic”. There you’ll also find a number of PRO themes, that provide greater contrast and additional design features.

Recent login activity
Along with all that, you can now view the recent login activity of your account. This gives you the ability to sign out of all other locations for peace of mind. Useful if you’ve logged in at a public location and forgot to sign out. To access your activity log, scroll all the way down and bottom right of the footer you’ll find a link to your “Recent login activity”. The data is available for 2 days for non-PRO users and 30 days for PRO. Failed login attempts are also recorded on PRO accounts.

280daily PRO is here! Features include:

  • The ability to set your own custom character limit. Plus the ability to add almost unlimited characters on the fly.
  • The ability to email in new entries by replying to your daily reminder or by emailing today@280daily.com or yesterday@280daily.com. If you have links enabled on your account, just replace your subject line with the link you’d like to include. You can also attach a JPG or PNG photo to your entry.
  • Users in the US, UK and Canada can also send it entries through SMS and also receive SMS reminders daily, every other day or weekly.
  • Some users have separate logins for different areas of life (e.g. personal and business). You can now quickly switch accounts with just one click. When linked, PRO is activated across all accounts.
  • PRO user book purchases are automatically discounted 10%. New PRO only features will be released over the coming months and years.

It’s been kept extremely simple. You have a choice of background, title, subtitle, inclusion of uploaded photos and the ability to select only the entries you’d like included in the book.

Due to the quality of the books, along with the costs of running the site, delivery and labour costs, we couldn’t get the price as low as we’d of liked. However the books are of an extremely high quality and the price isn’t dependent on the number of entries. Therefore, for the best value, we recommend over 50 entries, but the minimum is set at 30 entries.

Thank you to everyone who has jumped in and made the most of 280daily! Everyone loves statistics, in the spirit of openness, below you’ll find a general overview of 280daily’s growth and users. Slow but natural, 280daily is self-funded so we’re very happy with the numbers!

We know 280daily isn’t for everyone, currently 15% of users delete their account, which accounts for 750 users. We’ve received 607 feedback messages, made up of 22% ideas, 9% questions, 59% compliments, 4% problems and 6% other.

Many of the features that we wanted to launch this year will be moved to mid to late 2012. However, the book feature has been requested quite heavily. So we will be releasing the first version of the book export feature 8th January 2012.

It’s all the more surprising when you consider it’s a completely unsociable platform far removed from the vast social sea of liking, tweeting, stumbling and poking. We must be doing something right if you like it enough to share it with friends over afternoon tea.

With all that said, we’ve now introduced an incentive for referring friends to 280daily. A small incentive, but an incentive nonetheless. You might have noticed you now have an extra monthly quota. Well now you can earn an extra 250 characters per month for each person who signs up using your referral link. You can find your referral link in your account overview. Let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

We’ve added an additional quota of 500 characters per month, which will be reset at the beginning of each month. Before you begin writing your entry, in the knowledge you’ve had an eventful day, you can add as many additional characters as you have available.

The grid layout feature is still in early stages, but is available to try. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

  • Additional character quota – an additional 500 characters a month, which can be used for those days where simply too much happened.

May onwards

  • Ability to change the look and feel of 280daily.
  • Book export – fully featured.
  • Improve PDF export functionality – more control over appearance, layout and content.
  • More date based relation – increasing the possibilities regarding to linking to other entries.
  • More settings – even more control over 280daily.
  • Improved photo support – better galleries and photo integration.

Native mobile apps

Native mobile apps for mobile devices such as iOS and Android are being put on hold. Getting a mobile app right isn’t easy, at this point in time 280daily can’t invest the time and resources into creating the high quality app we’d want to put out there. 280daily has a fully featured mobile interface and we’ll keep working to improve it.

Startups are rightfully being forced into the mobile market-place, but we’ve always been of the mind-set that because 280 characters doesn’t take a great deal of time, it’s something you can sit down at your computer to do at the end of the day. But we don’t want to dictate how you should use 280daily. This is why it’s important that those who want to post quickly from their mobile have the ability to. At this point in time, mobile email clients seem to be the answer.
