That’s right… bright and early tomorrow, I’m headed for Omaha, Nebraska. I’ll be attending the Big Omaha conference, a one-day meeting with some of the web’s most creative thinkers, including Gary Vaynerchuk, Jason Fried and Jeffrey Kalmikoff.

I’ll be back Monday, energized and inspired!

Greater Richmond Companies To Watch, the Venture Forum’s annual event celebrating innovative early-stage companies with high growth potential in Greater Richmond, has released the names of 2008 applicants. Selected companies will be announced on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Toad’s Place in Richmond. 28 Media is honored to be among the amazing list of nominees!

I was thrilled to be quoted in the recently published Spring 2008 issue of WORK Magazine. In “Home Work: Inside the do’s and don’t’s of working from home,” I offered advice on working from home, and the importance of compensating for the regular social interaction you’d get in a traditional workplace. 

On April 17th, I’ll be participating in an AIGA panel discussion, titled Becoming Your Own Boss–The Business of Design. The panel features an interesting group of Richmond business owners, and should make for a great discussion.

This is part of the AIGA’s Brown Bag Lunch Series, so pack a lunch and come out to The Work Factory for an exciting alternative to lunch at your desk.

I just launched BringBackTheDialogue.com, a pro-bono project conceived by Charlotte-based BooneOakley in support of the WGA Writers’ Strike.

The site offers posters and flyers that picketing writers can download, print and distribute, as well as a photo gallery of user-submitted photos. There are also links to sloganed t-shirts and pins, with all profits being donated to the WGA Industry Support Fund.

So swing by, send in a photo, buy a shirt and show your support!

28 Media will be closed from December 21, 2007 through January 7, 2008.

For my first real vacation in 3 years, I will be overseas, traveling to different parts of Egypt… a 4-day Nile cruise, 5 days at the Red Sea, and 4 days visiting family in Cairo.

See you in ‘08! 

Tomorrow morning, I’m off to NYC for the Future of Web Design conference. I’m looking forward to an exciting two days of seminars and workshops with some of the biggest names in the industry, meeting other designers and developers from around the country, and the inspiration I always get from conferences like this.

I’m especially excited about the two half-day workshops I’ll be attending on Thursday. Grids 101 with Khoi Vinh (design director of NYTimes.com) will explore traditional print design techniques as they apply to the web. And Advanced CSS with Jina Bolton (of JinaBolton.com) will give me a wealth of new techniques for advanced front-end coding.

Almost slipping by unnoticed, I celebrated the second anniversary of 28 Media earlier this month.

It’s been two years since I took the freelance plunge and the business continues to grow. I’ve worked with countless amazing clients and extremely talented colleagues, who have helped make this endeavor a success. A special thanks goes to everyone involved for their continued support, and I’m looking forward to many more exciting years.
