Who is Irrelevant Now

In the first Episode of 2012 Technology Review we looked back at tech companies and technologies , such as greening that are prospering and some of those companies that are not with us anymore. In Episode 2 we continue talking about technology shifts in the telecom space and the growth of VOIP and Integrated Telecommunications.

Telcos as Content Providers

Coping with the changing landscape some telephone companies are becoming content providers and moving into the media space and are providing multimedia content to their customers on smart phones, desktops as well as in cable and satellite tv. Long distance revenues are falling for established telcos and they are using their wireline and wireless omnipresence to deliver additional services. They are being challenged in their data businesses by new disruptive technologies like Cloud Computing which has an all-new cast of players. In addition Canadian telco providers for additional placement and content Bell and Rogers have moved into the sports business by jointly buying into the Toronto Maple Leafs, The Toronto Raptors and The Toronto FC franchises. Rogers is the owner of the Toronto Blue Jays and Bell owns a minority interest in the Montreal Canadiens

Where Are They Now

Oh how the mighty have fallen or diappeared and the tech word has changed with the movement away from the eastern technology areas to the Silicon Valley of California. Household names in the 70's and 80's such as Digital Equipment,Tandem Computers and Nortel are no more and their intellectual property made obsolete or patents sold off. Rob and Jeff look at some of these changes from their viewpoint in this first episode in 2012.

Business Continuity Management

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Management is not just all about backups for servers and computers. It is about being able to have your operation ready and able to recover from a major disaster rapidly as if it had not happened. Do you have a plan to transfer your live telephone circuits seamlessly to an offsite location or even to the cell phones of affected employees. Have you crafted and loaded Interactive Voice Messages which can be changed and checked remotely into your planning to allow communication with your clients and community.

Other features include call analysis tools that can give you performance measurement regarding call wait delays.busy lines or agents, or call time . These can be excellent tools to use in staffing and manpower planning. Listen in as the call center concept is discussed and find out what you can do with very little added cost if you are employing the right solution.

Mobile Computing Security & the Mobile Landscape

On this episode of The 2 Big Telecom Guys, Jeff Brodie and Rob Metras discuss the the new Mobile Landscape and what it means for all sizes of enterprises.

Mobile communication is becoming so widespread in business that the lack of its use would create serious productivity losses from the current gains it is delivering. With this usage there has to be a reasoned approach with mobile devices in security and network access to protect an organization's digital assets and intellectual property.

Jeff and Rob go over why you should harden and secure your network and anything inside your enterprise firewall to prevent data hijacking and misuse of intellectual property resources.
