There’s no doubt that mobile marketing is coming of age. Nearly half of adults now own smartphones. In this day in age it’s hard to find someone that doesn’t have a mobile device within hands reach. There are five times as many cell phones in the world as there are PC’s, clearly mobile searches is moving towards over taking desktops. What is Mobile Marketing? Mobile marketing involves communicating with the consumer via cellular device, either to send a simple marketing message, to introduce a new campaign or to invite your consumer to visit a mobile friendly website. Click here for more information! When creating a mobile strategy keep the following in mind. Identify your goals: What is it that you are trying to achieve? Sales Leads? Newsletter signups? Promote a new product or brand? Attract new followers towards your social media outlet? It is vital to be clear about the results your expecting. Here’s a site that identifies different breakdowns to reach these goals. Understand your Users: You need to understand who your target audience is. Think about their demographics, buying habits and psychographics. Questions to ask – Would they be searching for your particular brand or product? Would it be more of a general search or a local search? Research your market: Gain as much market understanding as possible. Check out your competitors and see what they are doing. Follow this link to a checklist that will come handy while conducting your research. Mobile Mediums: Decide what medium to use MMS, Mobile Website, Social Media and how to tie them all together. Create your message: What tone and angle are you going to take to inspire your target audience to get involved? It should be as simple to read and understand as any form of print or audio advertising. Engage your consumer with a few characters or with a graphic. Your first impression should influence interest and encourage continued engagement. Here are some tips to on creating your Marketing Message. Online Maps: Google Places allow you to create a free account on Google Maps. This is a great medium for potential clients searching for local information, as they will find your business, from your address and operating hours, to photos and products. Another great tool is Foursquare. Develop Mobile Content: Use apps like Instagram, Vine, Socialcam or Videolicious to create videos or pictures to share with your social network. These tools are great in creating quick, amusing and engaging content, you can create product demos, behind the scenes shots and intros to new clients. Keep the content interesting and REAL, avoid any sales approach. Once the consumer gets to know your brands interests, passions and personality they’ll be more likely to want to do business with you. There is an amazing opportunity for you to stand out from your competitors and to obtain the mobile advantage by using these tips. Remember be precise, creative and most of all let your personality shine through. Thanks for reading and follow @2_Social on Twitter and Like our 2Social Facebook Page. -Vito

Do you sometimes lose focus when you are on your social media? Do you have social media block? Every now and then I like to go through my list of followers, just to see who I was communicating with before and who I haven’t talked to in a while. People sometimes get thrown by the way side in your life and it’s nice to rekindle some relationships! I was going through my list today, I saw people that I missed talking to, especially when I started Twitter a couple of years ago, and they were part of my first 100 followers! So they mean a lot to me! When I was delving into this crowd of people, I couldn’t help but notice that some of them were not so active as they were before. Life gets in the the way sometimes but even my friend who convinced me to go on Twitter, hasn’t posted since early 2011. It’s kind of sad. People lose motivation to do something over time, because it’s really tough to see the continual value of something. If you aren’t using Twitter as a business owner, a way to talk to people, or a place to read news and news sources, then it’s tough to stay motivated to be on it unless you are actually networking. So here are 10 ways you can stay motivated and have purpose on these social media channels: 1. Talk to someone completely new If you are lost and your friends aren’t giving you the type of good ‘feed’ material that you can feed on, then you should talk to someone new! Jump in on a conversation, you never know where it will take you! 2. Talk to someone with an interest Everyone has interests or things they like to talk about, so find some like minded people! Search a hashtag and start a conversation with someone! 3. Talk to a friend of a friend If you are worried about talking to someone completely new, try talking to a friend of a friend. See who your friends are talking to and jump in on a conversation there. 4. Talk to your friend Remember all the fun you and your friend had? Haven’t talked to your friend in a while? Rekindle some of those friendship fires by sending them a message. 5. Talk to a company you are interested in Is there a company that did something that you are curious about? Or maybe wanted to ask them something? Go ahead! Ask them, if the question is sincere, they will probably write back or answer your question. 6. Suggest something for a company or person to do to improve them This is the time you should play matchmaker! Do you know about something or someone cool but others don’t? This is a great opportunity to match up your friends with that special something. 7. Use twitter chats to talk to people Different Twitter chats happen everyday, you can talk to like-minded people and have some great conversations with them. Here are some on social media to get your started. <Twitter Chats> 8. Go to a big event, find and meet someone using the same hashtag If you go to a large event, depending on the event, they might have people use hashtags to promote it, you can search those hashtags, figure out who is there too and possibly start a conversation about the event. Give it a try! 9. Ask someone who you have talked to with on Twitter or Facebook that you haven’t met, and ask them for coffee. We asked a question a while ago and got a really interesting result! Out of the many who answered, only one person said they haven’t met someone through a social network before. I have met many people who I even keep in touch with today who I have met through social networks, and you feel comfortable with it give it a try! 10. Try talking to someone in your industry in a different country There are so many people who do different things around the world, and some people are in the same career path as you but in a different country, talk to them! It might help improve your career path! These are just some ways you can stay motivated and try to find some purpose on social media channels. Do you want to chat or have something to add? Be sure to follow and send me a message on Twitter, @SteveDolson. Thanks for reading! - Steve Dolson 1/2 of 2Social

Last week, Lauren and I had the privilege of speaking to Humber Business School students at the Refresh Social Media Conference. The event took place at Humber’s Lakeshore campus and I was greeted by some familiar faces that I have met from previous events! We were honoured to be amongst such great and inspirational speakers: Erin Richards of CBC, Stephanie Marshall of Rogers, Jamie Stein of ING Direct, Kate McKenna & James Saull of TSN, Ron Nurwisah of Huffington Post Canada, and Sonya Gill of YouzUs. This great event was put on entirely by the post graduate students, and we were so impressed by its professional flow, and the amazing speakers/content at the Refresh Social Media Conference! Lauren and I both talked about how we got started and how to fill voids in your industry to create opportunities for yourself. We had some great questions about branding, outreach and targeting your audience. Here is what students had to say about our talk: “Fill the void and offer opportunities” @stevedolson of @2_social talking about how to get ahead! #2chats #Toronto #SocialMedia — Kelly Chow (@kellychoww) April 9, 2013 Thanks to the twosome from @2_social ( @laurenmarias & @stevedolson) for coming to speak @humbercollege for #refreshSMC! #2chats — Loren Romei (@lorenromei) April 9, 2013 @refreshsmc learning the importance of targeted tweeting @2_social @laurenmarias — Sarah Fedy (@sassxo1) April 9, 2013 Great conference with @2_social #2chats.
Last night we went to the Church Aperitivo Bar at Queen and Dovercourt in West Queen West to celebrate their first birthday! @LaurenMariaS (the better 1/2 of 2Social) and I were in full stride, enjoying the modified floor plan as tables were moved out of the way to accomodate more floor space for Church’s friends and family! The event started at 7pm and everyone from Television hosts to fashion bloggers and everyone in between were there. The night consisted of wine being showcased around by a lovely server who gave the option of really smooth red wine and / or white wine as well as a champagne strawberry puree mix that was also delicious. The Dj for the spin some great tracks and was so nice! She brought a great musical environment for people to relax and socialize. Then the food came in. I personally love the food there, even though they serve predominately italian dishes, they can do other things very, very well. The sliders were fantastic and juicy, the sandwiches were light and flavourful, and the puff pastries and hors d’oeuvres were tasty as well. Church made it really difficult to keep conversation going because of the distraction of tasting all the delicious food! Here are some pictures below of the delicious food, let’s just pause this blog post for a moment to appreciate these next few pictures. Right??? Delicious. Not only was Church nice enough to feed us and serve us drinks, attendees of the night got a jar of their tasty tomato pasta sauce and a chance to get $25 off your next meal at Church. The environment and food were great, so if you haven’t tried it, now is the time. If you want to come celebrate Church’s birthday, they are having another celebration day on Friday, so be sure to check it out! Overall, it was terrific, a great night out, and a lot of fun! Thank you for having us, Church Aperitivo Bar, we will never forget you!
