Que faire quand on finit 10 000$ plus riche à la fin d’une soirée? C’est la question à laquelle Zach Aller a fait face après sa victoire au Empire Back Yard Party Snow le 25 novembre dernier. La tentation est parfois forte de partir sur une dérape, surtout quand il s’agit d’une première place d’aussi grande importance, mais le rider de 22 ans est conscient qu’il vaut mieux garder la tête froide dans une telle situation.

Au Québec, les skate shops ont de plus en plus l’habitude de se construire sur des frames de Wal-Mart, ce qui tue tranquillement l’esprit familial des shops. Le nouveau shop de Kris Rose et d'Adam Green, est tout le contraire. L’esprit du petit shop de quartier est de retour, avec un souffle plus moderne. Moins de stock en boutique pour garder seulement du matériel de qualité, unique et en quantitées limitées.

Le shop veut aussi pousser le coté artistique du skate, car selon eux, les deux sont inséparables.

Ils offriront des espaces d’expositions à plusieurs artistes locaux et ce, gratuitement.

In theory, it sounds perfect: bonding over a shared interest, uninterrupted conversation time on the chairlifts and a strong likelihood of some awesome/hilarious/terrifying event going down that will make for perfect inside joke material down the road. So how could I possibly make the case against the Snow Date?

I met a fellow the other day who dropped the term Snow Date, and I just loved it. I suppose I can see the appeal if you live in the city, where the Snow Date involves a mini road trip and a novel getaway. But if you live in the mountains like I do, here is my tip for you: avoid the Snow Date.

Issue #1: Lack of Clarity

You might think I am unqualified to write about Snow Dates because, since moving to Whistler, I have not actually gone on a Snow Date. But hear me out—I bet that there is at last one boy out there reading this right now, thinking, “What? I have totally been on a snow date with her!”.

Brainfarm Cinema begins production on a skate film

Like the title says, Brainfarm has begun production on what can only be an epic, slow-mo and helicopter filled skateboard video. Featuring P. Rod, Torey Pudwell, Sean Malto and no doubt countless others, this is gonna be a project to watch out for.

Luckily for us, no one can keep shit to themselves any more so we can follow the whole process online as it's intagrammed live.

Whistler is getting hammered by snow right now

With three-feet in the last 48 hours and almost 300 centies so far falling this season (ie. in the last week), this winter is shaping up to be another epic for Whistler locals. That's a long way from a short two weeks ago, when the mountain opened with zero natural snow and only a handful of runs open.

Reports are flying in (on Instagram and Facebook of course) of just how good it is, which is just about the same thing as rubbing salt into an open wound for me as I have been on the East Coast for the last week.

Le Dep - The Skate Shop that Montreal Really Needs

More and more skate shops across Quebec have taken the habit of building on Wal-Mart frames, foreshadowing a slow death for the homey atmosphere of backstreet boutiques that can make you feel like a kid in a candy store.

Thankfully, a new shop that's about to be opened by Kris Rose and Adam Green is just the opposite.

Their objective is to recreate the feel of a small, neighborhood boutique but with a rich, modern flavour.

Instead of quantity, the focus will be on offering a quality inventory of both unique and limited edition boards.

The pair also wants to tap into the artistic side of skateboarding because they feel that it's an intrinsic part of the sport, affirming even that it's nothing less than an art form.

Début novembre 2012 : l’ANTI Skatepark ouvre ses portes au public après près d’un an de fermeture. Un soulagement pour toute la communauté de skate de Québec qui se voit offrir une place pour skater au chaud pendant la saison hivernale. Mais qu’est-ce qui pousse l’ANTI à ouvrir ses portes au public à nouveau ? Une bonne partie de la réponse se trouve au plaza de Québec pense David Dallaire, moniteur au Qc.SkateboardCamp.

La compagnie californienne spécialisée en trucks de skate Caliber truck Co a publié, il y a deux jours, une vidéo montrant les prouesses d’un de ses riders, Liam Morgan.

À regarder pour sa facture photo particulièrement incroyable, ainsi que pour le sliding plutôt impressionnant dans les rues abruptes de San Francisco.
