We've got a last minute line up change, sadly Ted won't be able to make it.

BUT

we've got an incredible replacement! Greg Burch, from the Adobe Mobile team. You know the guys working on cool things like the Flex Mobile framework, Flash and iPhone stuff.

Yeah the mobile aspect of Adobe RIA on the cruise just went through the roof!! Don't worry, we won't be neglecting the rest of the RIA space. How could we with the likes and Ryan Stewart! Doug McCune, Sam Rivello, and Faisal Abid

Oh and in case you haven't checked the tentative schedule, Faisal's gonna be talking mobile too :)

This cruise will be something you're gonna regret missing. If the conversations in hallways at conferences like 360|Flex, CFUnited, MAX, etc are something you enjoy and geek out on, well this will be almost two weeks of 100% hallways, conversation, geeking out, with a tropical paradise as the backdrop!

Sadly Tom and I won’t be at Innovate 2009. Not for lack of interest either. With Tom consulting now, and me being swamped with Conference work, well, our travel budget has temporarily shrunk. Why should you go? PayPal is opening up its platform to developers. For any developer who has needed a flexible, global payments solution, this is a very big deal. It will simply life for many developers who have struggled with integrating payments. As well, it opens up the doors for finally making money from doing what you are passionate about, something we both encourage.

I can’t even tell you how many times as a developer, AND a consumer I’ve wished for better integration with payment solutions. Not to mention, now that micro-payments are becoming the norm, it just makes sense to make collecting money easier for everyone involved.

And, because PayPal likes us, we can offer 10 free passes to the first 10 people who see this :)

Once you check out the event details, hit up the following special URL to redeem your FREE pass and register. On this page you will find a link in orange “Enter Discount Code”, please enter PP360CON. This should bring the price of the ticket to “$0” for you. Please register as soon as possible to receive your free pass.

Tom posted some details for day one, over on the 360|Flexpress site, it's really shaping up nicely. If you're in the valley, or nearby and are looking for somehing to boost your game, or even break into Flex development, this training is for you.

You'll come away at the end with so much incredible knowledge, it'll take days to process it all. Ok maybe not days, but hours for sure!

Tom Ortega, and Thomas Burleson are both great instructors, and crazy smart developers. Oh yeah and Keith Sutton of SilVaFUG will be doing some hands-on intro to PureMVC at the end of the day saturday.

We're also working on lining someone up to do some Mate Hands-On.

If you're looking to level up your skills, don't miss 360|Flexpress in San Jose. Hands-On training, by pros.

Oh yeah, and Apress is sponsoring the training, we'll have some great Apress/Friends of Ed Flex books to give away each day! Don't miss it!

Register now! You won't find a better price on 2 days of Hands-On training anywhere!

Ribbit has been a friend of 360|Flex since way back when. Not to mention the fact that we have a ton of personal friends working at the company. With that in mind, we’d like to let you all know about an exciting event they’re having. Please read below for all the details given to us by Ribbit.

***********

Please join Ribbit in San Francisco November 5, 2009 for a deep dive into our open telephony APIs.

We’re excited to formally launch our RESTful API, and we’re looking for early adopters like you!

In the network of the future:

• Voice will simply be another data object – and will be carrier, network, device and protocol agnostic
• Legacy carrier networks will be merged with open networks / the internet
• Innovation will be developer driven, not constrained by existing carrier / telco business models

Ribbit is revolutionizing the communications paradigm by providing an open and fully programmable global communications platform. This platform allows any developer to integrate voice, messaging, and rich communications into any application, on Web experience.

Join us for a day of innovation and learning and an evening of coding and cocktails.

Ribbit + REST = Open Programmable Communications

Rebuilding the Ribbit Platform on top of a RESTful framework allows developers to interact with Ribbit at the server level, enabling new forms of application-to-person and application-to-application services. REST treats users, devices, calls, messages, and other elements as resources with which developers can easily interact — and exposes Ribbit’s core communications services in a platform-agnostic format using simple and secure HTTP calls.

Space is limited, Register by Oct. 28! http://developer.ribbit.com/blog/spawn/

If you cannot attend in person, please join us via webcast. Register by 11/3 at: http://developer.ribbit.com/blog/spawn-webcast/

When Digital Primates came to us to sponsor 360|MAX, part of the sponsorship package was a free pass to MAX. Seeing as how they'll be there anyway, they told us we could give it to someone in need of a ticket.

It just so happened Ali Daniali, Charity Code Jam Master, was in need of just such a ticket.

Digital Primates is a great company, and long time supporter of ours, and it's cool to see companies like them and Simplified Logic give back to the community in these ways. In case you're curious Simplified Logic gave all their extra 360|Flex passes for ATL, away to the community, rather than not use them.

A few days ago, a great conversation got started on twitter by @jimcheng, @visualrinse, and @bobjim (All of whom, you should be following if you're not) about side projects and a way to complete them with help, particularly at 360|Flex. Tom and I think it's an awesome idea! We love it when 360|Flex can help projects grow and become complete.

Chad sent some basic guidelines, so I've listed them below for discussion. The overall strategy thinking is this.

Something like a mini ignite at the beginning of the conference to vote on projects (This might turn into using uservoice ahead of time to make things more streamlined, not sure)

A few days ago, a great conversation got started on twitter by @jimcheng, @visualrinse, and @bobjim (All of whom, you should be following if you’re not) about side projects and a way to complete them with help, particularly at 360|Flex. Tom and I think it’s an awesome idea! We love it when 360|Flex can help projects grow and become complete.

Chad sent some basic guidelines, so I’ve listed them below for discussion. The overall strategy thinking is this.

Something like a mini ignite at the beginning of the conference to vote on projects (This might turn into using uservoice ahead of time to make things more streamlined, not sure)

During the conference there’s room for working on this project.

At the end, of the conference, much like the Charity Code Jam does, we’d see how the side project(s) had progressed.

So tell us what you think of these guidelines, the idea in general, etc. Let’s get some conversations going around this

The project should not be for an organization. At least not directly. Ideally it is a concept the developer/designer wants to create for him or herself but hasn’t gotten to finish it due to time constraints. This isn’t meant to supplant a charity code jam.

The project should have a tech spec or user story already written for it. Ideally, wireframes or a prototype UI have been created as well.

The project should be a true deliverable RIA or experience, not an API or other type of code library. Creating an API or code library to complete the project is acceptable.

The project will first be blogged about on the 360|Flex site. No other public announcement of the development commencing or launch can precede it.

The team producing the work will be listed as co-contributors, with the idea originator getting lead credit.

Flex 4 and Flash Catalyst should be used for the tooling.

Remember, the first 100 tickets are on sale now for $499, and if you’re gonna be at MAX, take advantage of our “We love MAX” price of $250. You have to be attending MAX to get the price, but since we’ll be in the community Pavilion, the expo only pass will do just fine if you can’t swing the full price!

Don’t miss out, this 360|Flex is gonna be great!

In the end we went with Garth's design, because well who doesn't like 8bit space invaders?

Anthony did our 360|iDev logo and it rocks, but this time we just had to go old skool :)

We'll whip up some speaker versions, etc soon, but this is it! The official 360|Flex Logo!
