Hello blogosphere! I can honestly say you haven't missed much in terms of style following the life of Kirby Morris. I've basically been living in chunky sweaters, denim and ankle boots for the past couple months. While wearing this simple-chic look, I've resigned from my job, got two internships, applied for graduation and moved to a new apartment. I have been crazy busy, but I've decided it's time to get back to blogging, starting with today's ensemble.

Two weekends ago (the weekend before I turned 22) I got to visit Joshua Tree National Park for the first time, and I decided that 2013 is going to be my best year yet, I'm starting if off 22 years young, surrounded by the people I love, and with my whole life ahead of me. I'm not going to let anything hold me back this year, especially myself. I'm no longer going to let my clothes define me, but more so let my creative style come along on my adventures.

Went to a wedding this past weekend, and had a dress picked out two months in advance. We went to Target the night before the wedding and I drooled over this Lela Rose piece from the Neiman Marcus collaboration. Of course I fell in love with it instantly because it's purple, floral and of course it was on sale! Three of my favorite things! Had to have it; the only question left is where am I going to where it again?

More than thrilled to have kicked off the new year with a visit from my momma, and a fun girl's weekend getaway. We drove the two hours to Palm Springs for a friend's wedding and got to go on a few mini adventures a long the way, not to be confused with Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It was the perfect relaxing weekend, giving me an escape from reality before heading back to school and work!

A Look Worth Wearing.

Organic clothing and sustainability is a huge trend in culture and fashion right now. But other than the garment being made from organic fibers, so much more goes into the clothes of Indigenous clothing. I was lucky enough to get to wear this beautiful coat from Indigenous, that not only looks and feels great but was also made using fair trade guidelines, with organic fibers and low impact dyes. I wanted to make the coat the focal point of the outfit, and have it work as something I could wear all day; not just as a coat. I helped incorporate it in by belting over it, so the coat and the dress almost became one!

Kept it warm and cozy for my first trip to the Hollywood Bowl to see one of my all time favorite bands, Mumford and Sons. My boyfriend could not pass up the chance to hear them live so we were fortunate enough to go this past Saturday. I attempted to stay cozy in this faux fur vest from Irene's Story; but ended up adding about two more layers as the night progressed!

Sweater dresses are a tough feat, especially if you're not shaped like a stick and six feet tall. To achieve a flattering look I recommend a sweater dress that is a solid color or minimal print, NO horizontal Stripes; they will widen you way out! And pairing it with a pair of tights; these will help elongate your legs so you don't look like a munchkin.

Trend to Try: Showing some funky socks peeking out from your boots in contrast with your tights.

You don't see it often, but yesterday was a cold(ish), gloomy day in SoCal. I was really getting into the fall/Halloween spirit and I thought this look really embodied it. One of my go to tricks for the season is rich, fall colored tights with every outfit. It's too cold and I'm far too pale to be baring a lot of leg, but a great pair of tights can help tie any look together and bring you into the season.

Trend to Try: Rock some colored tights as an accent to any monochromatic look.

The most minor accessory can be what makes or breaks an outfit. I think in this case the polka dotted Free People socks make this look complete. Even though they're playing a pretty subtle role from head to toe, without them it would be too simple, and too boring. To help make the socks stand out I used pearls to counter accent them, thinking that having the same white, circular shape would make them both stand out.

So it's obviously been way to long since I've lasted posted, and that makes me a little disappointed in myself; but 'they' have always said you never know how good something is until it's gone. And wow I really missed blogging. I'm back though, ready to be posting full time.

I went to Ohio two weeks ago for Andrew's sister's wedding. And I will say Fall is the absolute best time to visit Ohio, everything is so pretty, and the air feels so fresh. It was an event filled weekend from wedding festivities, doctor's appointments, family time and last minute surgery. But it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Orange County, and I think it got me my motivation back.

I am an avid skinny jean wearer. Yes, boot cut jeans are making a comeback this fall, but I will still always love a good pair of skinnies. Now, I think I love them even more, because I don't know why it took me so stinking long, but I finally got black ones. They completely transform my entire closet. Basically every outfit I ever wore with skinnies, I can now wear with these new dark and dangerous ones, and every outfit will be fresh and new. To me at least. These are my new sophisticated pants.

Back In the New York Groove.

Well, I'm back! Not really in any groove, and not to mention I've been so busy I hardly caught any NYFW recaps. Also, the post you've been waiting for from Fashion's Night out is never really going to appear, I can honestly say I didn't have the greatest virgin FNO experience. I was rushed on time, because I had to get back to work that night, and I went alone with no means to go on a shopping spree, and missed the main event! So it was a little bit of a bust, mainly my fault, and I've decide that to make up for it, I will be in New York next year for the festivities, even if I'm not invited I will watch everything from the sidelines.

Onto my personal style: It was pretty stinking hot here last week, and I just can't get my mind to transition into fall fashion. Every time I reach for a sweater I cringe at the thought of all the heat penetrating from those thick stitches. Which brings me to this outfit a combination of some of my favorite summer separates overflowing into the 'fall' season.

Looking back, this outfit definitely could have used a pair of knee high socks, glad I noticed know. One of my biggest transitions from summer to fall is cutting sandals out of my wardrobe. This is especially hard since I've been spending most of my work days on my feet, so need to be in comfortable, flat shoes. I'm getting excited for all the fall fashion, and can't wait to attend Fashion's Night Out this evening at South Coast Plaza. Photo diary to come, have a fun night everybody!

Hippie Glam yesterday. Not only have I been trying out cat eye sunnies I've also been dabbling with cat eye make-up. Well, yesterday my boyfriend told me I looked like a drag queen; I think I need a beauty lesson. On a side note, I am wearing pants here, and am finally accepting the fact that it's time to pack up my summer wardrobe and start preparing for fall. Fall is all about quality, investment pieces, being stylish doesn't mean quantity, as long as you have a few great pieces you can get through the entire season.

A lot of great things happening with this look, amazing floral print tights, trying out a fire engine red lip, the perfect cat eye shades, and a wardrobe staple, combat boots. This may very well be my absolute new favorite look from head to toe. It's just such an eclectic mix of me, aside from the red lip, which is something new I'm trying out. Thoughts? The jury is still out on this one, I definitely feel more comfortable with it partially hidden behind a UV lens, so maybe soon my eyes and lips will make an appearance together. Stay tuned.

So I recently started watching the television show 90210 on Netflix and there is this surfer chic character that I just can't get enough of. Her style is simple, California cool, with little effort, but she always looks straight off the runway. This gorgeous Louis Vuitton bag was an extremely generous gift from Andrew's mom; she has been accumulating a collection of Louie's for years. After finally getting enough nerve to carry this beauty out of the house (it's probably the most luxurious thing I've ever touched), I've realized it is the perfect bag. Great size, perfect handle length, will go with everything! Thanks so much Pukka!

In other news: I've really been enjoying my role as a visual merchandiser, there is so much creativity that goes behind each display, and I know it's really gearing me up to be a stylist! The stores owner, Irene, is a believer in fast fashion, so I've been trying to control my spending, when new merchandise hits the floor, EVERY other DAY! I did splurge and buy these awesome floral print jeans. I'll be honest, I'm obsessed and if they weren't so memorable I would probably wear them everyday!

The hi-lo trend has been HUGE this Spring and Summer, and I'm pretty sure, especially here in Southern California, that it's going to keep up throughout the fall. I love a good hi-lo top, but sometimes because of my bust and the way the hem falls in the front, they aren't the most flattering; i.e. I look pregnant! To help show off a little more of my waistline I took this dress, which is a slight hi-lo itself, and tucked the front into my shorts. Still have a low back, but also have some shape.

Last night my family and a couple of our close friends headed to the Anaheim Angels vs. Cleveland Indians baseball game. I can honestly say I'm not a huge baseball fan, I rooted for the Indians due to association, but attending a ball game is always an enjoyable summer tradition. Though I care more about eating all the grub and mingling with friends, it was pretty exciting when the guy sitting behind us caught a home run ball!! 

I kept it stylish and simple, without having to dish out money for some MLB gear, in Tribe colors with a blue tank and red and blue blend fedora.

I've been behind on the blog this past week, things have been very busy, and my cousin was in town, so I missed a few photo ops! I honestly don't have too much to say about this look, other than after wearing this flower cuff, I wish I wore it more often. It's fun and girly, but because of it's structure also makes me feel powerful and strong. I will say this though, this past week Southern California has been undergoing a heat wave, not to mention earthquakes, and after going home for lunch midday, I realized it was too hot and too much effort to wear platform heels all day. If I still lived in Ohio, I don't think I would wear heels hardly at all over the summer, too much work.
