May 13, 2026: Anderson Township’s Riverside Park will be home to Trucks and Tractors, 4-7pm. Kids, young and old, will be able to climb and discover the different types of equipment we use in our parks! Friends of the park will also be onsite, including a fire engine, ambulance, and a police vehicle. They ask families to adhere to their reserved time to accommodate other participating families. Pets are not permitted. Register in advance; space will be limited.

May 20, 2026: Blue Ash hosts this Touch a Truck event at Summit Park. 4-7pm. Equipment will be on display for children and adults to get a close-up look at the vehicles used around the City. Get up close to and climb inside several public works vehicles: snow plows, street sweepers, wheel loaders, and more!

June 4, 2026: Head to Montgomery Square Plaza for the Big Rig Gig, 9am-12pm. Do you have a child who would love to see a fire truck up close? What about a police car, digger, dump truck, or backhoe? Big Rig Gig gives kids of all ages the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seats of these unique vehicles!

June 8, 2026: Sharonville hosts their amazing Touch a Truck event. This year’s event is at Gower Park, 10997 Thornview Drive.,10am-2pm. Open to the public and FREE! Check out emergency service, construction and transportation vehicles. Parking is available at the Sharonville Community Center.

June 12, 2026: Springfield Township’s annual Touch A Truck brings over 50 service, construction and luxury vehicles to one place on Friday, June 12th. Kids can climb aboard, honk the horns and meet the workers!!! Families can look forward to seeing the Springfield Township Police, Fire and Public Works as well as other businesses such as Cincinnati Metro, Metropolitan Sewer District Of Greater Cincinnati, Duke Energy, Jimmy’s Limousine Service, Hamilton County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, Waycross Community Media, Greater Cincinnati Water Works, Great Parks of Hamilton County, UC Health – Air Care and Mobile Care, Animal Friends Humane Society with pets for adoption, UPS, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and MANY MORE!!! Some food trucks will be on site to sell lunch concessions. 11am-1pm at the Fire Station, 9150 Winton Road, 45231

June 16, 2026: The City of Ft. Mitchell, Ky will host a Touch a Truck in the City Building Parking Lot (2355 Dixie Highway), 5:30-7:30pm. See vehicles from the Fort Mitchell Fire Department, Fort Mitchell Police Department, Fort Mitchell Public Works Department, and more!

June 25, 2026: Head to Wyoming Ave. for a Touch a Truck. Kids of all ages get to explore a wide variety of trucks up close, get sprayed by the fire truck, honk horns, sit on a backhoe, jump aboard several trucks, check out the inside of an ambulance and a police car, and much more!

June 26, 2026: The City of Fairfield hosts a Touch a Truck event from 9am to noon at Village Green Park. Equipment will be on display for children and adults to get a close-up look at the vehicles used around the City. Individuals of all ages can touch, honk and climb on the many vehicles that you see around the City. You might see a fire truck, an ambulance, construction trucks, snowplows, dump trucks, police cruisers, farm equipment, the Bookmobile and many more vehicles of all shapes and sizes. They’ll have “Sensory Sensitive Hour” from 9-10am, a horns-free hour for children and families who want to experience the event without any loud distractions.

October 4, 2026: Spot-A-Truck returns from 11am to 2pm at Liberty Center. View your favorite dump trucks, snow plows, emergency vehicles, school bus and more. The event will take place in the parking lot next to the Taylor Garage.

Splash Pads Sprinkled Around the City:

Gorman Park: Gorman Park has gone through some recent renovations and a new addition for the park is a splash pad.

Beech Acres: One of the Anderson Twp. Parks, Beech Acres sprayground (image below) is pretty tame – perfect for littles. Their site says “Open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Scheduled to be turned on by Memorial Day Weekend…”

Clippard Park’s Sprayground (Colerain) is open from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend, 11am-7pm daily. This sprayground has motion activated features and has shaded seating areas.

Home of the Brave Park (Symmes Twp.): One of our favorites, this park’s water features are open daily starting on Memorial Day, 11am-7pm. There are a few benches in the shade with surrounding shady spots if you’d like to bring your own chair.

Juilfs Park: is another Anderson Park District park and offers seasonal water play from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. (scheduled to be turned on by Memorial Day Weekend and turned off after Labor Day weekend). .

The City of Cincinnati Recreation Commission has Spraygrounds at the following parks

Per the City of Cincinnati website, the spraygrounds are open from 10am to 9pm from June 6 to August 8. In addition, it states “All spraygrounds are available at no charge and do not require memberships.”

Grab dinner, drink or snack at the wide variety of food truck options.  The American Legion Post 194 will sell adult beverages throughout the evening with proceeds benefitting veterans and the Mason Park & Recreation Foundation.  Stage entertainment will kick off at 6 p.m. and will continue throughout the evening until 10 p.m. The event will conclude with a fireworks display and drone show presented by Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks at 10 p.m. 

Sparks in the Park (Milford)

Their Independence Day celebration is scheduled for July 3rd from 7-10pm at Riverside Park Ballfield featuring live music from Dat Band, food trucks, Rozzi firework show at 10pm

There are LOADS of free movies this summer. Enjoy an outdoor movie in many of the local parks – Deerfield Township, Fairfield, Summit… just to name a few. Dig, dig, and dig some more when you head to Trammel Fossil Park to find some buried fossils. Take you own shovels and pails to unearth and save your favorite finds. Work up a thirst and then head to the nearby Rootbeer Stand!

Get outside and pick some berries! Strawberry picking season is typically end of May and early June with blueberry/blackberry picking right behind that.

Put on your dancing shoes and head to a free outdoor concert in the park. Check out the long list of outdoor concerts.

The Friends of the Public Library Used Book Warehouse is a great place to go for some new-to-you books. They have a large selection of kids’ books and the prices can’t be beat! As of 6-1-24, they’re open Monday 2-7pm, Wednesday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm. Find the warehouse at 8456 Vine Street (Hartwell, just south of Wyoming).

Load the kids in the car and take in a Drive In Movie!

The Cincinnati Art Museum offers free general admission (and free parking). See the Cincinati Art Musuem’s Family and Teens Programs here. Don’t miss the Art Climb, located just off the end of their parking lot.

Fun for all ages! Learn how to Geocache! This is a hobby you can do all over the world (and even the teens like it)!

Kings Island is a great spot for family fun!

Smale Park is one of our favorite places to spend the day. From the carousel to the playgrounds to the river views to the water features and SO much more. See all this park has to offer here and put it on the list.

Some days just call for some indoor play (that is NOT at home!). These indoor play places should help you out!

The older kids might enjoy a round of Disc Golf. And a bonus is that most of these spots also have nearby playgrounds for those of you with kids of varying ages.

If a day on the water is what you’re dreaming of, we have lots of great Canoe and Kayak spots all over town.

Or do some skating at a local roller rink or ice skating rink.

We LOVE to go out on the Loveland Bike Trail. Whether you walk it or bike it, you’ll enjoy this paved and (mostly) flat spot located along the streets of downtown Loveland.

Unplug and enjoy the great outdoors when you take the family camping! Details on local campgrounds can be found here.

Kirkwood Adventure Park is a hidden gem. It’s a bit of a drive but it’s a LOT of fun. Google says “temporarily closed” though (as of 5-21-26).

Have you been to the Mt. Airy Treehouse??? closed for repairs

Enjoy a visit to the farm when you head out to Gorman Heritage Farm in Evendale.

The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Libraries have lots of Library Play Spaces all over town. In fact, 41 different locations have spaces just for kids. Go visit a new library branch!

Visit the Museum of Natural History and Science at Cincinnati Museum Center. And don’t miss the Childrens’ Museum while you’re there.

Explore trail after trail after trail when you go to the Cincinnati Nature Center. Be sure to hit up the Nature Playscape while you’re there. And take a picnic lunch with you!

Do you have baseball fans at home? The Reds Hall of Fame Museum offers tours that include an opportunity to go out on the warning track and even into the dugouts.

We’re hoping to see the Bengals Practice Facilities open to the public again this summer. Details aren’t out for this late summer opportunity but we’ll update as soon as we get the info.

People come from all around to see Jungle Jim’s International Market! This spot is a HUGE grocery store that has food items from all over the world. It really is a site to see! And you’ll be amazed by the selection of food stuffs. Take a cooler!

The younger kids will love a trip to Highfield Discovery Garden (located within Glenwood Gardens). They have a great playground, lots of short trails, room to roam! Watch for their family friendly classes on the website. Admission charged to this part of the park.

Touch a Truck events are happening all over town, all summer, and well into the fall.

You have lots of choices when it comes to family friendly 4th of July Celebrations!

The Apple Store (Kenwood Mall) has a number of family friendly classes for children and adults. They seem to be added week by week so check back often.

Newport on the Levee hosts Kids Crew on “The Lawn” , Monday mornings starting at 11am. Weekly activities may include face painters, story tellers, magicians, arts and crafts and more (they have a calendar of events by date on their page). The event moves inside to The Gallery during bad weather.

Put your dancin’ shoes on and head out to Ault Park in June, July, August and September for their Summer Music Festival (live music too).

Head to beautiful Summit Park (City of Blue Ash) for some action packed activities: Line Dancing with Erica on Mondays (5:30pm), Hatha Yoga with Stacy on Wednesdays at 5:30pm (and Cincinnati Opera with Yoga on Wednesdays June 24 and Sept. 16 only), Cultural Fusion Zumba with Jeaunita on Thursdays (5:30pm), Hip-Hop Zumba with Lori (10am) and Mat Pilates with Body Alive (9am) on Sundays. Classes scheduled to begin in June, 2026.

Move it with Workout on the Green at Washington Park: Sessions are happening on Wednesdays this year. Check their site for details.

Parky’s Farm has farm animals to see, short trails through the woods, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and much more. If you have kids in tow, it’s a must do for the summertime!

Carol Ann’s Carousel at Smale Riverfront Park is open Friday through Sunday, 11am-4pm during the summer. You can buy a token for a ride for just a few bucks; stick around Smale Riverfront Park for all kinds of free family fun including huge swings, playgrounds, walking paths, water playgrounds and more.

Shakespeare in the Park will be happening all over town from starting July 14, 2026. Check out the dates and performances when you click the link above.

There are lots of Touch a Truck events happening all summer (and into the fall). See all kinds of large trucks and specialty equipment. Many events allow kids to climb aboard to see what it’s really like, up close and personal.

Rockin’ The Roebling Summer Concert Series is returning for 2026. The concerts take place on the Schmidlapp Lawn (next to Moerlein Lager House) from 6 to 10pm on select Thursdays starting May 21, 2026.

Head to “America’s Cardboard Boat Racing Capital” for the Cardboard Boat Regatta, New Richmond. The Cardboard Boat Museum says the next race will be on July 4, 2026 at 1pm.

Wellness on the Levee happens on Wednesdays in June, 2026. Dates read June 3 – August 27 but only June dates are listed. Check their site (link above) for details.
Grab your mat and meet up at The Plaza on Wednesdays, 6-7pm. See site for details.

The Cincinnati Museum of Art offers free general admission everyday and parking is free. Be sure to also check out the nearby Cincinnati’s New Art Climb while you’re there!

The Keehner Park Concert Series happens at Keehner Park,  7-9 p.m. on select Saturdays. Bands play free shows from the Amphitheater stage. There is no charge for admission and all guests are welcomed to bring food and drink for the evening.

The City Flea will do some park hopping this year AND has some Vintage Markets as well as their indie crafters markets. Shop, enoy great food, and more (no admission). The Summit Cinema (at Summit Park) will be showing movies on a giant inflatable screen, visible from any spot on the Great Lawn. Their movies include:

Parades (listed alphabetically):

Blue Ash:  Join the City of Blue Ash for the 74th annual City of Blue Ash Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026. The parade kicks off at 10:15 a.m. from Reed Hartman Highway and Cooper Road, with entries from dozens of military and non-profit organizations, local businesses, and community groups. A special ceremony will take place at Towne Square after the parade at approximately 11:30 a.m. with keynote speaker David Foster, U.S. Marine Corps Retired.

Cheviot Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11am on May 25, 2026. It is organized by the Green Township VFW Post 10380. The parade will start at Bridgetown Cemetery and proceed north on Bridgetown to Cheviot School and then onto Harrison Ave. Parade continues to its termination at Harrison and Glenmore Ave. at the Westwood Baptist Cemetery. A rifle volley and TAPS will be performed at both cemeteries.

Evanston: Happening on May 25, 2026 , a parade will be held at 10am and will go from the Evanston Recreation Center, left on Woodburn Avenue, left on Fairfax Avenue, left on Evanston Avenue, left on Hewitt Ave., ending at the Rec Center.

Fairfield: Happening on May 25, 2026, the parade will feature veterans groups, military units, the Fairfield High School Marching Band, community groups and organizations, the Fairfield Police Department, and Fairfield Fire and Paramedic units. A band will be performing patriotic music and other favorites at Veterans Memorial Park prior to the ceremony. Guest speakers include representatives from local veterans groups and City of Fairfield Mayor Parade starts at 10am. It begins at Express Scripts and proceeds down Hicks Blvd. It then goes right on Nilles, left on Bibury, right on Wessel, and ends at Veterans Memorial Park.

Florence, Ky: The day’s events will honor the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military and provide an opportunity for the community to gather in remembrance and gratitude. The parade will begin at Boone County High School at 10:00 a.m. and will end at the Florence Government Center.  Following the parade, the Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Boone County Veterans Memorial located at the Florence Government Center.

Glendale: Parade details for 2026 have not been released.

Loveland: Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. and will travel from Loveland Elementary School to the Veterans Memorial. Immediately following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial. A military flyover is scheduled for approximately 9:45 a.m.

Madeira’s Memorial Day March: The Memorial Day March will be begin at 10am. Participants will assemble at St. Gertrude Church at 9:15am. The silent March will travel down Miami Avenue and then west on Dawson Road, ending with a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial located at McDonald Commons Park. A shuttle bus will be available after the Ceremony to return participants to St Gertrude Church. This will be a silent March for the purpose of expressing heartfelt gratitude to the men and women who have died protecting freedom throughout the world.

Mason: The parade takes place on Monday, May 25, 2026 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins in Downtown Mason traveling along State Route 42 and then turns and heads south on Mason Montgomery Road concluding at the Mason Municipal Center parking lot. At the conclusion of the parade, the community is encouraged to attend a special Memorial Day Ceremony and Community Picnic beginning at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Veterans Memorial at the Mason Municipal Center.

Newtown: Line-up begins at 9am at MVCA on School Street with step-off taking place at 10am. Parade ends at Moundview Park. This parade is May 25, 2026.

North College Hill: On SATURDAY, MAY 23, 2026, The City of North College Hill will hold their annual parade and Memorial Day services. Parade starts at the NCH Baarendse Stadium at 11am and ends at the NCH Middle School at noon. Following the parade, there will be a Memorial Ceremony from 12-1pm at the cemetery (1602 West Galbraith Rd.).

Park Hills: The Park Hills Memorial Day Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony will begin at 11:30 and happens rain or shine. The parade will following route: Dixie Highway at Notre Dame Academy to Arlington to Old State Road to Terrace Drive to Amsterdam Road to Park Drive. Under the leadership of Ryan Patterson, Jr, seven WWII era aircraft will fly in formation over Park Hills during the flag raising ceremony, around 12:30pm, weather permitted. At the conclusion of the parade, a flag ceremony will be conducted. They’ll also have a Memorial Day Food Court at Trolley Park after the parade.

Reading/Arlington Heights: The VYO’s Memorial Day festivities include a parade on May 25, 2026 in Arlington Heights starting at 9am. The parade route enters Reading at the bridge on Benson Street, continues on Benson and turns left at Reading Rd. It then turns left at West Vine St., right on Jefferson Ave., and ends at the cemetery on Columbia. Immediately following with be a Memorial Day Ceremony in the cemetery honoring all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

West Chester: Memorial Day ceremonies in West Chester are organized each year by local veterans groups VFW Post 7696 and American Legion Post 681. On Monday, May 25, starting at 10 a.m., the Memorial Day Parade makes its way through the historic Olde West Chester business district. Starting at the Boys and Girls Club, the parade travels to Brookside Cemetery on West Chester Road for a remembrance ceremony. Members of the West Chester ~ Union Township Historical Society will read aloud the names of all veterans interred at the Brookside Cemetery, where more than 700 are laid to rest, including 100 Civil War veterans and one Revolutionary War veteran. 

Free Admission (for military):

The Cincinnati Zoo is offering free Zoo admission to members of the military — active and retired — on Memorial Day (May 25, 2026). The offer also allows military personnel to purchase discounted admission tickets for guests of military/veterans. Events and Ceremonies:

Field of Memories at Arlington Memorial Gardens: The “Field of Memories” faces Ronald Reagan Highway and provides a stunning display of patriotism. While this display is especially poignant for veterans, it’s a tribute that is open to non-veterans also. The flags are atop 6’ poles and will wave 24 hours a day with the field lit at night. Each flag bears the name of the individual to whom the flag is dedicated.
In addition, the 911 Steel Display will be on-site (May 22-25) courtesy of The Goodtimers.

Green Township will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026, 2-3pm. The event will take place at Green Township Veterans Park, 6231 Harrison Ave.

We personally enjoy these free and cheap nights out around town. It’s a fun way to spend an evening with friends, it’s great for all ages, and it’s easy on the wallet!

Located in Amelia, Ohio, this drive-in theater has been in business since 1947! Pull up to your spot, tune into 90.7 FM, and enjoy back-to-back movies on their giant screen (digital projection). You can bring your own chairs or a blanket to sit outside as long as you stay in front of your car.

Opening for the 2026 Season: open as of April, 2026

Showtimes: Starlite Drive-In is typically open Thursday – Sunday but be sure to check their calendar. The box office opens at 7pm (7:30 on Sundays). The first movie typically starts at 9pm (check their site to verify).

Bel Air Drive-In

Located in Versailles, Indiana, this drive-in theatre has been in business for 60+ years. All movies are digital.

April 16-19: Cincinnati Ballet presents their Family Series featuring Pinocchio. It’s the heartwarming story of a puppet who wants to be a real boy. A one-hour, narrated ballet at the Aronoff Center, Pinocchio features Cincinnati Ballet Second Company – CB2 dancers and young performers from the Otto M. Budig Academy. It’s the perfect introduction to dance, even for the youngest members of your family. Arrive early for free lobby games, crafts, photos, and more. Tickets required.

April 16: Signs of New York: Creation of the Music World Mural will be happening at the American Sign Museum, 7-8pm (admission charged).

April 16: Tunes and Blooms returns to the Cincinnati Zoo for April, 2026 (weather dependent). Tunes and Blooms happens on Thursday evenings only and goes through April 23. During Tunes and Blooms, Cincinnati Zoo admission is free after 5pm. Parking is $10.  Music starts at 6pm.

April 17: The NKU Planetarium has free public shows on Friday evenings. The show for April 17 is “Magic Tree House Space Mission”. Each public show includes a live presentation about the current night sky, followed by the full-dome planetarium video. Donations are welcome, however educational experiences in our planetarium are free and open to the public. Reservations are recommended, but not required. Parking is available in Kenton Garage.

April 17: Head to Music Hall for Silent Movies Made Musical with the Mighty Wurlitzer. Buckle up for a swashbuckling adventure as The Mark of Zorro, the classic 1920 silent film, comes to life in the Music Hall Ballroom with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ. Tickets required.

April 18: It’s opening day at Kings Island!

April 19: The Burlington Antique Show has its first show of the season at the Boone County (KY) Fairgrounds, 6am-2pm. Admission charged, parking is free. Rain or shine.

April 19: History in Bloom will take over the grounds at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum on April 19, 12-4pm. They’ll have tours of the grounds, horse drawn carriage rides (noon-3:30pm), and you can meet some of the more notable “residents” as you wander the grounds.

April 20-26: Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Week is back! Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Week is a limited-time offer for locals to experience fine dining at a considerably reserved cost.

April 23: Blooms and Berries is throwing a Ladies’ Night event, 5-8pm. Enjoy wine, complimentary cheese and fudge sampling. Enjoy the music and shop their fully stocked, GORGEOUS garden center while you enjoy a lovely evening with your friends.

April 25-26: Asian Food Fest will be happening on Court Street Plaza. Hours are Saturday: 11am-10pm and Sunday: 11am-8pm. Celebrating its 15th year, fans of Asian Food Fest will enjoy a mouthwatering tour of Asian foods, in the form of small plates. Attendees can also expect live entertainment, local craft and Asian beer, fun family activities, and more.

April 25: Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park hosts Art & Earth Day. In partnership with local universities and other non-profits, celebrate Arbor Day, Earth Day, and International Sculpture Day with Park hosted events for the whole family.

Enjoy Zoo Blooms all month long at the Cincinnati Zoo. As one of only two accredited botanical gardens in Ohio, the Cincinnati Zoo offers one of the largest tulip displays in the Midwest. Dubbed “Tulip Mania,” Zoo Blooms also features more than one million daffodils, hyacinths, flowering trees, shrubs and other spring bulbs exploding with color. No additional charge. This event is included with Zoo Admission.

Broadway in Cincinnati brings “Water for Elephants” to the Aronoff Center, April 21 – May 3, 2026.

Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum Tours: This has to be one of my personal favorites things to do for spring. Spring Grove Cemetery is a rather large cemetery and is also an arboretum. The plantings, both trees and gardens, are amazing. Spring is especially beautiful with multiple huge tulip beds, daffodils, flowering cherry trees and much more. Their tours are almost all free and vary in scope.  Click the link at the beginning for this section to learn more.

Eden Park: One of the magnificent Cincinnati Parks, Eden Park is a show-stopper when the trees start to bloom. Park near the Krohn Conservatory and walk the path that leads down to the gazebo. The flowering trees are spectacular! Click the link at the beginning of this section to learn more about Eden Park.

The Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory will be open starting May 9, 2026. The Butterfly Show has a new theme each year and the theme for 2026 is “Destination Monarch”.

The Cincinnati Zoo is a great place to enjoy the animals but it’s also a wonderful place to spend a day enjoying the flowers of spring. Enjoy the some fun live music at the Cincinnati Zoo’s “Tunes and Blooms” events, happening each Thursday in the month of April.  “Zoo Blooms” puts the focus on the flowers in the month of April and “Zoo Babies” will be highlighted in the month of May.

Ault Park is now one of my yearly trips in the spring. The magnolia trees are simply fantastic. The park itself is worth a trip any time of year but the spring visits are always my favorite.
